Nigerian politicians are talking about negotiating with Boko Haram, the military is preparing for battle with the militant group. Seventeen countries have signed on to help Nigeria increase security.

The Nigerian military is acquiring new boats and helicopters and is fixing up fighter jets. In a speech in Abuja, Minister of Defense Bello Haliru Mohammed said training and re-training military personnel is a top priority, considering the security threats in Nigeria.

The minister said Nigeria has signed military deals with 17 countries to help quell attacks blamed on the Islamist extremist group. The group is believed to have killed more than 1,000 people since it began violent operations in 2009, attacking churches, markets, schools, security forces, the local U.N. headquarters and newspaper offices. An elderly Italian working as a construction engineer with Borini Prono Construction Company has been kidnapped in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Kwara police public relations officer (PPR0), DSP Fabode Olufemi, who confirmed the incident in Ilorin yesterday said the state police command was aware of the incident but could not give details of the whereabouts of the victim.

Olufemi said the incident was capable of frustrating the efforts of the state government at delivering democracy dividends to people.

Daily Trust gathered that the victim, who had gone to inspect one of the ongoing road construction projects, awarded to his company by the state government was whisked away at about 5:30 pm on Monday to unknown destination. The projects he went to inspect are located at Bishop Smith Road, opposite Stella Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall, it was learnt.

Our correspondent also gathered that the kidnappers were yet to make any contact with the associates of the Italian four days after he was kidnapped.

And no contact has been made with the kidnappers and all what the police could confirm about the incident was that he was an Italian working with Borini Prono, according to the PPRO.

The police, however, assured the general public that the victim would be rescued soon without any hurt.

A German, Raufach Edgar, who was kidnapped in Kano on January 26 this year has been killed by his captors Thursday morning before he could be rescued by men of the JTF

The raid is still ongoing and sporadic shootings are still being heard by residents who are all trapped

within their homes and unable to go to work. A military helicopter is also still hovering overhead, providing aerial support to the forces on the ground. Details later.

‎6 New States Coming Soon - National Assembly.

The quest for creation of more states by some groups in Nigeria will be actualized soon according to members of the National Assembly that spoke to Hope for Nigeria yesterday.

They disclose that the creation will bring all the geo-political zones at par in respect to number of states.

The South East currently with fives states, will get two more states. North East with six states now, will have an additional state. South-South and South West will add an more state to their current six, while North Central will have the remaining one.

This will bring to 42, total the number of states in Nigeria after the current review of the 1999 constitution by the National assembly.

Report any suspicious persons and object to the law enforcement agencies, as that will save lives.
