edemhe:upgrading to keep up with new titles doesn't sound right to me, clearly anyone doing that is wasting money.the resources required to run games developed within the same period doesnt change significantly to justify upgrading the hardware. There-in lies the beauty of pc gaming, when your system starts to struggle, you can sell the old hardware and replace it something capable not necessarily the latest. I know someone on nairaland who still has a first generation intel core processor that was launched in 2009 and games on it. |
3KINGZ18:Some pc gamers upgrade when new hardware is made not when new games are released . They've got the money to spend, its theirs. Support for 4K is having HDMI 2.0 to enable the throughput required for 4k resolutions, refresh rates and adding HEVC support to decode 4k content ..it's only a statement they've made. only the game developers can say whether it will run games at 4K. There's a huge difference between supporting 4k resolutions and gaming at 4k. The hardware in the new consoles are made by AMD and have the same architecture as APU'S when you get the chance research on AMD APU 's to see what kind of performance they have. Although they'll be using the new Polaris architecture from AMD i think it'll be tough to extract that kind of performance from it and have an enjoyable gaming experience gaming at 4K. The new hardware however will now allow game developers to consistently run games at 1080p 60hz on all new games. (only a handful do now others run at 720p or 900p rendering resolution ) If the new consoles have hardware equivalent to a desktop pc to game at 4k resolution, it won't be affordable. |
Silkmoth33:Youll be the one selling your kidneys not me hahha! Get this one - http://www.wellindal.co.uk/home/asus/p-120015?r=4712900261165&gclid=CjwKEAjwiru9BRDwyKmR08L3iS0SJABN8T4vdi-A1YwXHNDAe6hk9JufrAJTziJ6j6YUkCGm2sXXmxoCaBfw_wcB |
Silkmoth33:ohh! I touched a nerve did I? Hiding behind the internet gives you the courage to be abusive..interesting you can't swallow the pill you've been trying to dish out all evening. |
Silkmoth33:OMG! Didn't know that. I'll have to buy a PS4 soon just to play an exclusive. |
Silkmoth33:Stress is subjective pal. |
Silkmoth33:Troll question! Keep it moving! |
Silkmoth33:Thank you even though I sense a hint of sarcasm. ![]() |
Silkmoth33:Seems like you are choking! Running out of steam? Ultimately, there are factors that drive ones decision to go for a console or PC for gaming. The title should read why I had to dump my underperforming PC for console gaming because I couldn't upgrade it due to lack of hardware or funds. Lol |
Silkmoth33:Yea we are nuts about hardware...tell me something I don't know already bro. You're trying too hard to sound intelligent. I make money off the knowlegde I have about hardware to pay some bills and fuel my passion for PC hardware. |
Silkmoth33:This info isn't for you..period! jog on! |
Silkmoth33:I guess this is where you tell us how to develop a game..you should create a new thread for that....oh wait! you can't! |
Silkmoth33:PC enthusiasts enjoy both...it's exciting. Sometimes you want to play games, other times one wants to re-configure the system...make things more efficient, perhaps give it the wow factor with some LED light strips. Be creative...make modifications not done by the manufacturers. Enthusiasts are naturally problem-solvers by nature..pushing hardware to the limit...we are a different kind of people and life is such...you either love it or hate it. You clearly don't have the same passion I have for hardware and that's fine...trust me when you play on a proper gaming PC with say a Freesync/G-sync gaming monitor with very little input lag, your console will take the back seat. My partner has a PS4 and I only play games on it that hit 60FPS anything below feels laggy and stuttery...and your eyes can sense the judder when you spin the camera. Dust buildup can damage your console so cleaning is a must ! A console does what it says on the tin, play games that are fully optimised for it...PC gamers usually want to do more with their PC like share gameplay on live streams, create media or perhaps do something productive or work related whilst having that flexibility to game. Enthusiast want to do all of it and see the limit of that hardware. |
RX480: ..it's like a disease!..can't wait to do an ITX build...make my own custom braided cables sleeves and squeeze as much power into a small cube! |
RX480:PREACH! |

rawdpiper:lol sorry thats meant to be 'better than'..corrected |
KazukiIto:If you haven't got access to change the VRAM size in BIOS by both BIOS versions, then I think that feature is locked by default. Shared VRAM is usually dynamic and will use more than 32MB when it's required. I won't worry about it tbh. I think Windows has automatically adjusted that value and will request for more if the program demands more vram. |

In a nutshell, case fans are required to move air in and out of the PC case thereby keeping the PC components cooler; pushing in cool air, exhausting warm air. There are typically two types of case fans and they are described by the fan blade design. Air flow fans: optimised for moving a lot of air Static pressure fans: optimised for dealing with restrictions like radiators, HDD cages etc. You can choose to use either airflow or static pressure fans the difference in performance isn't significant. However, one can select based on how their PC configuration is.As a rule of thumb, where there is low air restriction within the case use airflow fans. Fans come in different sizes and range from 40mm to 200mm but the choice is based on the PC case limitations. The standard sizes for most gaming cases are 120mm and 140mm in diameter and a width typically of 25mm. In some larger PC case size, it's common to see 180mm, 200mm and 230mm (diameter) fans. When setting up your fan configuration always aim to keep 'positive' air flow meaning have more air moving into the case than moving out of the case. This doesn't necessarily mean have more intake fans as the speed of the fans dictate how much air is being moved. 'negative' air flow means you have more air exhausting the PC case than entering. Negative air pressure usually leads to more dust build up in the case as air is pulled through unfiltered vents on the case. So in choosing your fan, check case support before purchasing. Note though choosing a fan can be very frustrating as there are so many manufacturer. I usually go to thermalbench.com to do my comparisons. On photo, airflow(AF) fan on left, Static Pressure (SP) on right. Note the fan blade design. Related Post - https://www.nairaland.com/3267973/gaming-pc-what-need-know

KazukiIto:I've lost track on where we got to. I remember saying something about flashing the BIOS. So what have you done? Did you install the latest version, then go back to the previous, then back to the latest version? Remind me of your systems make & model. |
rawdpiper:With an i5-4th gen & R7 mobile dGPU, you shouldn't have any issues running most games on med-high settings with some small tweaks to the image quality and still get decent framerate. It will ultimately be much better than gaming with intel's integrated hd graphics. What R7 graphic card is it M260,M265,M270? |

rawdpiper:Are you referring to a laptop or desktop? |
rawdpiper:are you refering to a laptop or desktop? |
rawdpiper:U wan pay for me? na 20k a month. |
Nosainwe:Why would you want to put a PC game on an android device though! |
Lana1:didnt know one was out. What about it? |
Section8:Laptop or Desktop? |
KazukiIto:You should watch The Imitation Game if you haven't. It's about the invention of the Turing Machine. |
Section8:In terms of instruction-per-cycle (IPC), Intel chips perform better but AMD typically have better integrated graphics...so in gaming scenes were it's CPU bound, Intel will perform better..if it's GPU-bound AMD should perform better. For an all round performer in gaming it'll be an Intel CPU with a dedicated GPU. if you will be purchasing one soon, share the specs here. |
Test Setup Motherboard - Asus Maximus Ranger VII Processor - Intel i7-4790K at 4.4Ghz RAM - Kingston HyperX Fury at1866Mhz Storage - Samsumg 2TB HDD Power supply - Corsair AX860i Test Method - FRAPS was be used to capture the framerate and an average of 3 runs of the game title will be used to calculate the framerate. This is to minimise errors and as such will take quite a while to collate the data. All games will be tested at 1920x1080, unless stated otherwise. Actual gameplay will be used unless I believe the in-built benchmark of the title suffices. Only DX11 games will be tested. As soon as a benchmark tool for DX12/Vulkan is available I'll be doing games like Hitman, RoTR, AoTS, TotalWar:Hammer, DOOM. Power consumption is captured using Corsair LINK software Feel free to ask questions...I had to remove Hitman Absolution from the test as it gave me inconsistent readings. Game settings used Witcher 3 - Ultra Settings, High Post processing, Nvidia Hairworks OFF AC: Syndicate - Very High Settings with FXAA Black Op3 - High Setting with SMAA 2x Crysis - Very High Setting with FXAA Shadow of Mordor - Ultra Setting Tomb Raider 2013 - Ultra Setting - MSAA 2x Clearer image of framerate comparison - https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5gP1lXvmMe5amEyQURwcjFUTDA
