Last season we conceded 39 goals that’s among the top 3 teams with least goals conceded only two other teams Chelsea and city conceded lower with 36 and 32 respectively. but we scored a paltry 55 goals that’s an average of 1.4 goals per game same number of goals with the likes of Aston Villla.
Yet a manager in his right senses that wants to win the league keeps spending on defense. We had a similar stat 2 seasons ago guess where he strengthened?

I went back to arsenal archives to see how arteta was compared to xhaka...

....guess what, they were basically the same player only that arteta was surrounded with high technical players like carzola and rosicky meanwhile xhaka is surrounded with young kids with little experience and experience players that are not good at all.

the biggest culprits in our midfield is Granit Xhaka. His speed means that he is a liability when defending counter attack.
His frequent back passess means we can't kill any team in counter attack.
He has zero presence in the midfield, which means his midfield partner will be doing all the work in the midfield against 3 to 5 opposition players in that midfield.

No wonder partey keep getting injured everytime, partey will be doing all the work while xhaka will do notting all match. Same thing happened today, lokonja was the only arsenal player that ran the midfield meanwhile his partner was no where to be found

This is what we keep trying to explain but they just keep taking the whole sentence "defence wins you titles" out of context.....some Don even turn themselves to trolls of the club they claim to support sef.

On the defense wins you titles argument. I am a strong advocate of that notion.

People don't realize that a strong defense is the foundation for actually winning trophies but that defense must be helped significantly by a well drilled midfield and sharp attack.

Italy would never have won the euros if not for those two warhorses at the back helped by a superb organized midfield even though for me their attack was not the best.

That defense always kept them in games no matter the situation.

But in the case of arsenal , Arteta is missing the plot by focussing too much on the defense and not really bolstering the midfield to complement them. Even the defense imo still needs quality at RB and CD as Ben white Gabriel and Kt are the only really quality I see.

How we have mismanaged the last few months after ending the league in a disgraceful position is still amazing me

My point is that, you need a good attack to win games, but it doesn't guarantee you won't lose, while a good defense ensures you don't lose games. (It's not losing that brings the title). It's like half full Vs half empty. The former ensures short term success (winning games) but it's the latter than ensures long term success (winning the league).

Alternatively, look at it this way;

A team has both a good attack and a good defense.

The attack ensures that they achieve their short term goal- win games, while the defense ensures that they achieve their long term goal- win the league.

That's not saying you shouldn't strengthen attack, but for a team in a rebuilding stage, you have to strengthen defense first. Take that to Jamaica if you like, but every top manager knows this. If you disagree you're not wise.

All the club you mentioned above bar Atletico Madrid never strengthened defence first before attack.

They already had strong attack and were doing well in the league only to add a formidable defender as the icing on the cake to remain dominant.
Atletico took the other route and it took them longer to get any trophy,(they had to invest in their attack to clinch anything) the other teams I mentioned above were at least getting one trophy or the other before splashing heavily on defense.

You need to understand that it’s more difficult integrating a midfielder or attacker into a team than a defender or goal keeper. You eat your big frog first!
