Amid the fear of the Ebola virus in the country, it was with disbelief that residents of Iguosa community in Ovia North East Local Government Council of Edo State ran to an uncompleted building in the area to see an 18-year-old boy, simply identified as Ighodaro, making love to a dog .

Curiously, the dog was said to have enjoyed the sex before the crowd stormed the scene. Ighodaro was in JSS 2 before he dropped out from school, due to the inability of his poor parents to pay his school fees.




He learnt welding, but, while doing that, he became a lover of dogs. He confessed to newsmen that he has slept with different dogs five times until this last episode. It was learnt that a member of the community was passing by the uncompleted building when he sighted the boy making love to the dog and raised the alarm that attracted the villagers.

Mr George Ogbonmwa, owner of the dog, expressed shock at the incident, explaining that when he saw the young man with the dog, he did not know he had an ulterior motive. “I thought he wanted to play with the dog only for him to end up in an uncompleted building where he had canal knowledge of the dog.

This is like another dream to me because I have not seen this kind of thing in my life before”. Following what the villagers described as an abomination, the Odionwere (head)of the community, Elder Clifford Igiehon, was invited to the scene and expressed shock over the incident which he described as a taboo.

He said,”We have never seen this kind of thing before in this community. This is an abominable act and we don’t want the suspect to come and corrupt other people here. What he committed was a taboo. We will call the parents to come and atone the gods but the boy will go on his own, because we cannot kill him.

President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday differed with the Osun State chapter of the party on the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election won by Governor Rauf Aregbesola of the All Progressives Congress of Nigeria.



While Jonathan and the national leadership of the PDP conceded defeat to Aregbesola , the PDP in Osun rejected the election result.

The APC candidate who is the incumbent governor of the state polled 394,684 to defeat his PDP counterpart, Iyiola Omisore, who scored 292,750 in the final results announced by the Returning Officer, Prof. Bamitale Omole, on Sunday morning.

Jonathan, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, congratulated the winner and said the peaceful conduct of the election reaffirmed his administration’s determination to positively reform Nigeria’s electoral processes.

He added that the outcome of the election vindicated him from what he called unfair allegations that measures put in place by the Federal Government for the Ekiti and Osun state elections were designed to achieve favourable results for the PDP.

The President commended the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for ensuring that the election was free, fair, credible and peaceful.

Jonathan said as Aregbesola prepared to begin a second term in office, he looked forward to continuing to work with him and other state governors to further improve the living conditions of Nigerians in Osun and other states.

The statement read, “President Jonathan congratulates Governor Aregbesola of Osun State on his victory in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

“The President commends INEC and national security agencies for ensuring that the election was free, fair, credible and peaceful in keeping with the avowed commitment of his administration.

“President Jonathan also applauds the people of Osun State who came out en masse to peacefully and freely exercise their democratic right, trusting in his assurance that all necessary measures had been taken to ensure their safety and the sanctity of their votes.

“The President believes that the free, fair and peaceful conduct of the elections have fully reaffirmed his administration’s determination to positively reform Nigeria’s electoral processes.

“The outcome of the election has also given the lie to the false, unfair and uncharitable allegations that measures put in place by the Federal Government for the Ekiti and Osun state elections were partisan and designed to achieve a favourable outcome for his party.

The Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), Chief Tony Anenih, said on Tuesday in Calabar that President Goodluck Jonathan would contest the presidential election in 2015 on PDP platform.

Anenih said this while addressing party faithful at the maiden zonal tour of the South-South by the new PDP chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.


“I want the national chairman to go home with a word from the father that come 2015, Jonathan will run for presidency for the second term, ‘’ he said.

He said that the party was becoming stronger in the South-South, adding that “if we continue like this, the load in 2015 will be lighter than the load in 2011,” he said.

The BOT chairman further said that the party had worked hard for next weekend’s governorship election in Osun, adding that PDP was sure of clinching victory in the election.

“We are working and we are sure that we will win Osun, come Saturday,” he said.

The National Chairman, PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, said the party would ensure that internal democracy prevailed in its choice of candidates for various elective positions in 2015.

Mu’azu said that the party would not entertain any short-cut or favouritism in selecting the candidates.

The World Bank has pledged $200 million to help contain the deadly Ebola virus reaping panic across west Africa, as Nigerian authorities say a doctor in Lagos has contracted the disease, the second case in the sprawling city.

The confirmation that a fourth doctor in the region had developed Ebola came Monday as fear and anger about the dead being left unburied in Liberia's capital Monrovia brought protestors into the streets there.
Meanwhile, Sierra Leone's president said that the regional epidemic threatened the "very essence" of the nation.

The World Bank said Monday that it would provide up to $200 million to Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone to help the west African nations contain the deadly outbreak.
World Bank president Jim Yong Kim, himself an expert on infectious diseases, said he has been monitoring the spread of the virus and was "deeply saddened" at how it was contributing to the breakdown of "already weak health systems in the three countries".
The funding will help provide medical supplies, pay healthcare staff and take care of other priorities to contain the epidemic and try to prevent future outbreaks, the World Bank said.
The bank made the announcement as African leaders, including 35 presidents, are visiting Washington for a US-Africa summit.
The death toll from the Ebola outbreak on Monday reached 887 after 61 more fatalities were recorded, according to the World Health Organization.
The latest doctor to be infected had attended to Patrick Sawyer, who worked for Liberia's finance ministry and contracted the virus from his sister before travelling to Lagos for a meeting of west African officials.
Nigeria's Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu told journalists that 70 other people believed to have come into contact with Sawyer, who has also died, were being monitored.
Of the eight now in quarantine, three show "symptomatic" signs of the disease, he said.
More worrying still were reports from Liberia that victims' corpses were being dumped or abandoned. Protesters, who blocked major roads in the capital on Monday, claimed the government is leaving the bodies of victims to rot in the streets or in their homes.
The Liberian government had warned against touching the dead or anyone ill with Ebola-like symptoms, which include fever, vomiting, severe headaches and muscular pain and, in the final stages, profuse bleeding.
"Four people died in this community. Because the government says that we should not touch bodies, no one has gone to bury them," Kamara Fofana, 56, a protestor in the Monrovia suburb of Douala, told AFP. "We have been calling the ministry of health hotline to no avail."

The Lagos State Government and some federal delegates on Sunday paid a visit to the General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, Prophet Temitope Joshua.

The visit was said to be aimed at sensitising the church and its membership on the menace of the deadly Ebola virus.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, who led the delegation, said it was also to make sure that no victim of the virus came into the church from any of the affected countries.

Idris said, “We have our strategies that we intend to share with you. Again, we need to know the resources you have here because whether it is one or two cases, if they are allowed to get out, it is a major problem. We are here to work together on how to contain this disease.”

Idris said the delegation decided to pay the visit to the SCOAN because of the recognition that it was an international Christian centre whose congregation comprised people from all over the world, including the countries of the West African sub-Region which had already been infected by the Ebola disease.

The Director, Centre for Disease Control, Professor Abdulsalami Nasidi, added that the visit was also to inform the Synagogue leader of the deadliness of the Ebola Virus, and ensure that it did not escape into the country.
