Understand that fully. However, similar argument could be made for Leicester FC women, as they only got promoted into the Super league and would like to be prepared to make a solid start to the season. That's why pre-seasons are so important for teams, as well as their key players. Anyhow, we are speculating here. Let's see if she shows up in camp. Schemerkhiz: |
Well, same was said about Regina Otu of FC Minsk, right? Schemerkhiz: |
Not sure if any of the Spanish contingent will show up due to pre-season training. I also will be surprised if Ashleigh shows up, as the Leicester pre-season is in session. Ariyo just moved to a new club, so I did not expect her to be a part of this training, not to mention her club's pre-season. Onumonu is a key starter for FC Gotham, so I did not expect that she will be here - club will not release her. Glad that Zogg and Nicole Payne are present. Ini-Abasi we have seen in the past and frankly, not particularly sure what value she would offer. Last I saw Ebere Orji play, she wasn't impressive. Hopefully, she has improved, but wouldn't hold my breath. No need to talk about Oparanozie. Surprised that perhaps, the two best HB players in the summer series (Viv Ikechukwu and Tosin Demehin) are absent, but the poor performers like the Ogbonnas are here. Shocking! Schemerkhiz: |
I thought Regina Otu was supposed to be a part of this camping? Wetin happen? JohnBullMySon: |
Adekite Fatuga - Dada (Watford FC Women) Lady has some speed to burn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBGq-wLTP8E |
Now this is the young lady I would LOVE to see in the Super Falcons team. Technically sound and definitely, a super star in the making: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oz9O7w6LzZ8 |
Thought she was fantastic in AWCON 2016 and was instrumental towards Nigeria defeating Cameroon in the finals by pulling off some fantastic saves. Then all of a sudden, she fell off the radar - not even considered by the Swede Dennerby. Sad. I believe she is more technically sound than Oluehi and perhaps, moreso than Nnadozie (even though one has to grant her the benefit of training in France). GeneralDae: |
2019 WWC in Paris. Wonder who Nigeria's #9 (with the captain's armband) was? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhSbih-N_AI do4luv14: |
If the highlighted statement is true, then is she really ready for the SF? We saw how our players struggled against the teams they played in the Summer Series. How then is this young lady going to excel and hold her own against the best teams in the world if she is only a substitute for BK Hacken? Are these young ladies really ready for the SF? Not really sure how this helps the SF? Schemerkhiz: |
We've had a chance to judge her closely over the past 10+ years that she has been in the Super Falcons. Isn't that more than enough time to know what she can or cannot do? What most don't understand is its really not just what she brings onto the field, but also what she brings off the field. Over the past 2 years, we have had a taste of her leadership skills. It is crystal clear she lacks the guile and temperament to be a 'leader' on this team. She has demonstrated how tactless she is, by going off the rails with unrealistic demands (equal pay for women - something the US women's team has unsuccessfully been fighting for years), as well as making ridiculous statements and disparaging the NFF leadership. The team has been a lot more stable in her absence and now, you want her back? Good luck to you all! CoolJulian: |
I'll give you 2016. That was 5 years ago. What has she done lately? why was she MIA in AWCON 2018 and WWC 2019? Let me guess...injury, right? But she was able to play for her club, right? Abegi! And for you to say she plays the #9 better than the present person (Oshoala) is laughable. Not even close! Career goals scored for the SF: Oparanozie (22), Oshoala (29). And that is with Oshoala coming into the SF 3-4 years after Oparanozie was there. End of discussion ![]() Schemerkhiz: |
When last did you see her play on the international stage? And yes, I have been watching her performances for club and country, a whole lot! Her performance in AWCON 2018 was nothing to write home about either. Even worse was her 2019 WWC performance. Its strange that most people haven't noticed her steady decline in performance over the past 4-5 years. She has little or no pace, slows down our attack and her production rate in front of goal has been mediocre. Her highest goals output at the AWCON was in 2014 with 5 goals, which was 7 years ago. Since then, her productivity has declined - 2016 (3), 2018 (2). She has been in Nigeria's WC team since 2010, playing in the 2011, 2015 and 2019 squads, logging in an astonishing 'goose egg' number of goals (for someone who was supposed to be Nigeria's main striker). Its obvious she is grossly overrated, as she can't perform on the big stage. I beg, let the woman be. Schemerkhiz: |
I am very calm, thank you. Et tu? JohnBullMySon: |
A waste of space, if there ever was one. This lady's performance during the last world cup was beyond poor. Her club record and performance at Dijon has also been poor - 18 games, 4 goals as a striker. The team needs to be refreshed with younger talent for the future, and not recycling spent players who are at the trough of their careers like Oparanozie. Schemerkhiz: |
Don't see anything here to excite me. She played this way when in college here in the US. Schemerkhiz: |
Link please? Schemerkhiz: |
Hints? Schemerkhiz: |
She plays for Lewes FC, an English Championship team. She joined because the club will enable her have the time to complete her studies (I believe her Ph.D). Not sure she is keen on playing competitive football at this time. GeneralDae: |
Not sure if anyone has had a chance to read this FIFA Report on Women's football, but it is an eye opener. Nigeria really needs to build on this and can become THE premier Women's league on the continent and compete for a standing in the World. FIFA Women's Football Report |
Out of curiosity... Uchenna Kanu was with Sevilla in the 2020 season but was let go after 4 games. Why? (that is a tell tale sign that a player doesn't measure up to standards). She went to a Swedish league and then joined up with Linkopings FC. Considering the Iberdola is much more competitive than the Damallsvenskan league, that raised a red flag for me, as the typical trend is to move from Scandinavia to southern continental Europe, in this case, Spain (Rash, Rita Chikwelu, Osi Ohale, are examples). Second, I watched her performance in the Turkish Invitational and I wasn't really blown away. I really expected a whole lot more from her and quite frankly, didn't get it. Ball control, 1v1 ability, etc. on her part were below par for me, considering all the hype surrounding her. I was far from impressed. Schemerkhiz: |
I went into the Summer Series with that in mind (long layoff) and still saw some things I was concerned about. First, her energy level was down - you could see her walking back on some occasions, when she ought to have been racing back and she looked extremely unfit. Yes, we can attribute that to her long layoff BUT she had several weeks of training with Levante before the Summer Series. Second and most worrisome for me was her overall approach to the game. I noticed that, literally, every time she got the ball, her first instinct was to dribble. This was prevalent in all three games. There were several occasions Rash and others expressed their frustrations with her ball-hogging, when a simple pass would have helped sustain the attack. 9 times out of 10, on those her ball-hogging escapades, she lost the ball. Her ball control was also poor. This was worrying for me, because its usually a sign that a player might be the downward slope. She was not as fast as she used to be and her overall contribution in the final third was poor. Not sure if anyone else noticed this. Schemerkhiz: |
Didn't know what to make of Rash at first. I had seen several of her games with AM prior to the Summer Series, and I thought she had started to, slowly but steadily, impose her brand in the AM team. In the first game against Jamaica, I was a bit disappointed, as I thought she would really stand out in the Naija team. She didn't and that made me pause regarding my take on her. However, I thought she played very well against Portugal and the US, really imposing herself in the game. I thought her overall performance across the three games could be ranked as a B+. I believe the summer series has helped Rash and Toni Payne become key members of the squad and have deservingly etched their names into Randy's starting lineup for the SF, going forward. Curious as to your take on Franny Ordega's performance... Schemerkhiz: |
I thought Vivian, in her cameo appearances, played well. I particularly liked her being emboldened approach. No doubt, she has room for improvement and I will like to see her in Randy's setup going forward. I was also particularly impressed with Demehin, the CB against Jamaica. She displayed a calmness in the back beyond her years (19) and I feel she is definitely one for the future. I hope she remains in Randy's setup going forward. I don't have to re-litigate my disappointment in Ogbonna. Okeke is with CFF Madrid and doesn't play in the local league. GeneralDae: |
No she wouldn't have! Why is your argument centered around club accomplishments and the European football scene only? Do you even know anything about the American NWSL? Do you have any idea how strong it is? It is not by happenstance that the US has consistently had the best team in the world for over 2 decades now. Do you know how many of the worlds best players are in the NWSL? Also, Oshoala does NOT have more records than Rapinoe, if you look at the records that anyone really cares about. If and when Oshoala starts to be considered as the Women's Balon d'oro and the FIFPro World X1 team, THEN you can draw up comparisons to Rapinoe. Up until then, you really do not have an argument! 68816419: |
This lady is a football nomad - she has been all over the place. Anyhow, congrats to her, even though her playing time might be limited to bit part roles. She is definitely behind Ludmila (BRA), Deyna Castellanos (VEN) and Tatiana Bonetti (ITA). She will also have to contend with Ajara Nchout of CMR and maybe Rasheedat Ajibade. I see her as a bench player, unless she makes a big impression on the coach. Schemerkhiz: |
But regardless of whether you played club or national team football, the powers that be will recognize your contributions. The fact that Rapinoe won the FIFA Women's footballer of the year and the best Oshoala can hope for is the African fooballer of the year speaks volumes. Oshoala has not ever been considered for the FIFPRO women's team of the year. That is quite telling too, don't you think? BascoVanVeli: |
Didn't want to be sucked into this debate, but Megan and Oshoala are not on the same page. Megan has accolades and trophies that Oshoala can only dream about. What is even more admirable is she performs against the women's big gun teams of the world. The evidence speaks for itself. Enjoy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOolVYEqpjY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDix4u4zsK0 BascoVanVeli: |
Another option is Christy Ucheibe of SL Benfica of Portugal. She can play as a DM/CM. Hopefully, she has resolved her passport issues which prevented her from attending the Summer Series, as well as the Turkish Invitational. https://www.kick442.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/EnCHHt_WEAAKbCt.jpeg Schemerkhiz: |
Thought that had been concluded? Anyhow, there are quite a few countries that wouldn't be playing in the Olympics - Scotland, Ireland and Wales have a decent team. Same with Switzerland, Germany and Spain. Denmark, Norway and Finland are also available. Schemerkhiz: |
Not so sure she would. She would more than hold her own at Barca Feminino, if the opportunity arose. isan: |
Delighted for Roosa. She has worked hard and is being rewarded for her hard work. The Spanish Iberdrola would rank in the top 3 Women's leagues in Europe. Tenerife is also a top tier club in that league. This should help her become better and hopefully, we will see more of her in the Super Falcons! Congrats, Roosa! BascoVanVeli: |

. Spain is now the second home for Nigerian footballers. Good to see.
