@Kobojunkie

Although banks are private entities, they are regulated by the federal govt,so they have to abide by the laws set forth by the govt. The same thing happens here in the US. The federal reserve here can go in to any bank and close it down if the deem it to be insolvent.

Sisi Jinx:

Let him be, give him space. . . Let him know you are there for him without being all up in his face. Sometimes love can be stifling and it really doesn't conquer all. . . So you going "I love you, do you love me? Talk to me! Why won't you talk to me? Blah, Blah, Blah" when he is trying to figure things. . . real honest to goodness issues like how to pay the rent and whatnot, isn't going to help much. That's why he'd rather hang out with his friends because they won't yapping in his ears all day long and sighing all over the place like long suffering matyrs. . . Jeez!

I hope that helped. smiley

well said end of subject!!!!!!!!!!!
Investment / Re: Stock Market Tips For Nigerians by akininNC(m): 3:57pm On Nov 06, 2008
Looks like the market is starting to show some signs of recovery. IMHO, most of the downward trend in the market was because of all the new investors that came aboard in the last couple of years, they got spooked very easily. The market is a long term investment and not a get rich quick scheme. Hope people have learned their lesson.
Most of these companies still have strong fundamental and will rebound in the long run.

How low does the stock market have to go before he realizes that it has trickled down to Nigeria?

Travel / Re: Building A Rapid Mass Transit System (Metro-Rail) In Lagos by akininNC(m): 10:20pm On Nov 01, 2008
@topic

While mass transit is a highly commendable project, we cannot embark on any of these ideas until an honest tax policy is in place, ie sales and income tax. We are still of the belief in Nigeria that the Govt should pay for all our needs but we fail to see that the Govt needs our capital to fund these massive projects. Unfortunately we have seen what the Govt does when they have access to huge capital, so we are back to square one. I wish I had a solution!

Autos / Re: Mercerdes Benz Ml 320 At Unbelievable Price! by akininNC(m): 5:28pm On Oct 27, 2008
@sdbaba,
Do not waste your time getting in into a verbal altercation with this chap. I actually blame the seller rather than you. Price the vehicle what you think it is worth and hold your ground. Although there are circumstances where you would be willing to listen to some offers because the vehicle has been in your possession for too long.
I for one believe that dealers that overprice their vehicle are doing themselves a disservice. Price it fairly and allow room for little negotiation and move on.

spoony:

Tara (and others)
I've read the story through and all the comments. IMHO this has nothing to do with race/culture or anything else! The personality, character and brains is what counts.
You might be blind in love, but you should have red control light blinking in your mind when he refused to take you to parties/events/meet friends etc.
You’ve been 7years together and he only NOW got his 5years visa? That sounds strange too.
I know many Nigerians who married (usually older, fat and lonely) woman for papers but I’m not feeling sorry for them anymore (I used to). One has to use his senses and try to look through things.
I did follow my heart but was cautious at the same time.
Now, I cannot imagine my in-laws (my Nigerian mum & dad) accepting my husband misbehaving, they love me so much! And I know another few of couples with happy ending (so far anyway) so don’t give up on Nigerians as a race but blame him for being bad person and please, please WAKE UP and act as mature person, mother of a child. You need to be strong. Write him off and start all over again, he’s not worth it and you should know much earlier. Don’t you have friends?
If you want, get in touch.
All the best

Thank you spoony, this has always been my contention with all these foreign women that marry Nigerian men, do not paint the whole culture with a single brush. As with any society there will always be individual who refuse to confirm with the norm. That does not make the rest of us bad.
Autos / Re: Mercerdes Benz Ml 320 At Unbelievable Price! by akininNC(m): 3:30am On Oct 27, 2008
@sdbaba

We all want a good deal on a car but there is a fine line between asking and making an offer that might be considered insulting. If you are looking to spend about 1mil, would it not make sense to look at something closer to that price.
Just my 2 cents

@Babyjinx

While I appreciate your adult approach to the situation, it does take two to tango, I believe some of your comment should also be directed to the esteemed inspired and all his other aliases. His refusal to show some level of humility in any of his posting does leave a lot to be desired.

@ Ziontrain

You have fought the good fight but it does get to a point of diminishing returns. But the issue should still be brought up from time to time because this thread gets new uninformed buyers all the time.

Family / Re: How Can I Change My Surname Legally? by akininNC(m): 12:19am On Oct 11, 2008
Can I ask why you want to give yourself all the headache. It is possible, you have to go to court to have it legally changed and then you also have to take out a newspaper ad. Thats the way it works here. As far as passport and all legal tender you have to carry all that paperwork with you since you are not native to that country. It is a hassle.
Family / Re: I Need Your Help And Honest Advice by akininNC(m): 12:10am On Oct 11, 2008
Thanks Leilah, with age comes a little wisdom and I think I am little bit older than most of these posters. We should not confused a scorned woman with a concerned woman. I hope you have had a chance to have your heart to heart with your hubby and he is receptive to your ideas.

Speaking of African men, how about Obama and his prospects. The McCain camp is throwing everything at him. I wonder if Obama has to do dishes? grin grin grin
Family / Re: I Need Your Help And Honest Advice by akininNC(m): 9:37pm On Oct 09, 2008
@ Maxell
My point exactly, if you believe something will happen then it will, because you will see things that are not there. If you believe in your marriage then it should not matter that it is a Nigerian union or not. You have so much more to worry keeping a marriage together than creating more wahala for yourselves. Work on your marriage not you naija man!
Family / Re: I Need Your Help And Honest Advice by akininNC(m): 8:18pm On Oct 09, 2008
@ Iceblue

It is difficult to be married to anyone whether you are naija or from mars. What bothers me is the view she has that the problem is because she is married to a Nigerian. You could have the same conversation if he was from another country, it is not a nigerian issue. 50% of marriages in the US end in divorce, are we going to blame them because of their culture? MARRIAGE IS DIFFICULT. I have to agree with her in some sense because she is married to a Nigerian hence her views are skewed towards that viewpoint. But all I am saying is that she should take the time to learn, try to learn from older Nigerian wives in her community and she will go a long way to having a happy and successful union.

@osisi
The trick to freezing anything is to make sure you remove as much air as possible prior to freezing if you plan on freezing for a long period. By removing, you limit freezer burn as well flavor contamination
