Here in the USA you wil use rebar as well as specific mix of concrete which will include granite.

My floor guy chose to not use iron but instead is using gutter sand and granite.

Is this the best way to go? Not sure but I was willing to experiment.

Those that are not Civil Engineers think we are crazy when we go against the visible common sense theories that they believe is structural. But thats the money maker for us CE. We understand the principles that governs structure and it gives us economical advantage when we design homes.

Example; in one of my project, my roof design was less than 400K( wood and Long span Alumin). The roofer keep saying that the material wasn't going to be enough and i just told him to get the damn quantity i calculated. Guess what, we even had left over after the roofing was done.

I cant wait to relocate to Nigeria and expand my housing stock. lastly, Building in Nigeria is so Basic. Try building in a climate that has seismic and snow condition, then you will know that we are not building anything yet in Nigeria.

The post & beam approach maybe more accurate in sizing & neater, but it doesn't make the block/post&beam less of a frame structure.
What determines the frame is the column & beam connection.

this is my first time building,the money ain't an issue,I would not even be aware of this if not for mr saydfact who I give daily pictorial updates of the progress of the work..he made the issue aware to me and when I confronted the engineer,he said they usually put mats for waterlogged lands etc.

hi guys, it's really exciting putting up a building and most importantly i like to know all the details about it. At least i should be able to tell when someone is trying to swindle me. i really want to know how much it would take to build a foundation in an area with considerable amount of calcium. You certainly can't be getting different sizes of reinforcement at the same price per ton. That is mistakenly not possible.

Mushin, for Tiles, is way too expensive.

Orile is your best bet in terms of pricing and volume.

Caveat: **** I dont sell Tiles or anything, for that matter****

I think it is safer for an engineer to estimate the bold at 2tones each, making it 4 tones.

Also 0.5tone for 10mm would be nice if it can just go for 1tone

Reinforcement makes a duplex different from a bungalow...

What inflated the quote was the 8mm rods...don't know his reasons for that.

12mm already 2 tones
10mm 2tones to 1tons.
Would have been a good one for me ooo
Iron bender labour to me was cool....Some even charge as high as 200k
But just wanted to see if d guy could beat it down to 120k


I understand your fears boss but my estimations are based on the drawings and the experience doing construction and supervising projects. Plus i can assure you cant even use all the rods u will still have left obers. The 12mm was 4tons i think. I feel that is way way too much for a 174sqm
Rule of thumb states 0.7-1.2% steel to concrete volume ratio though its not applicable in all situations but foe residential projects its well applicable and far sufficient depending on other factors other than steel.

The dimension of the building is 23,190mm by 9,300mm (175.4 Sqm) this house is relatively small hence my doubt.
His total rebar quantities are:

2.5 tonnes of 16mm @ 160k par tonne = 400k
4 tonnes of 12mm @ same price = 640k
2 tonnes of 10 mm @ same price = 320k
3/4 tonnes of 8mm @ same price = 120k
Labour 150k
Total ==== N1,630,000 for Rebars alone oooo

well, I just collected the quotation yesterday and too vex to even call him for any negotiation.
