GarriKoro: Opening Statement of Sen. Carl Levin Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Hearing on Keeping Foreign Corruption Out of the United States: Four Case Histories
And this is just a summary
Our third case history examines Jennifer Douglas, a U.S. citizen and a wife of Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and former presidential candidate in Nigeria. From 2000 to 2008, she helped her husband bring more than $40 million in suspect money into the United States through wire transfers from offshore corporations. Ms. Douglas is alleged in a 2008 civil complaint filed by the Securities and Exchange Commission to have received $2.8 million in bribe payments from a German conglomerate, Siemens AG. Siemens has pleaded guilty to criminal charges and settled civil charges related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and told the Subcommittee that it sent payments to her account at Citibank. The Subcommittee located three wire transfers substant iating $1.7 million in payments from Siemens to Ms. Douglas in 2001 and 2002. Of the $40 million, the Subcommittee traced nearly $25 million in offshore wire transfers into U.S. accounts controlled by Ms. Douglas, provided primarily by three offshore cor porations called LetsGo, Sima Holdings, and Guernsey Trust Company. The five banks holding her accounts were generally unaware of Ms. Douglas’ PEP status, and did not subject her accounts to enhanced monitoring, despite multiple, incoming wire transfers f rom Switzerland and Nigeria. One bank took seven years to find out she was a PEP; after it did, it reviewed her account activity and closed her accounts.

Celebrities / Re: Timaya: ‘2face Idibia Is The Only Legend In The Industry’ by akinselurea: 11:51am On Sep 28, 2018 |
dammy13: Popular Nigerian artiste Timaya says Innocent ‘2baba’ Idibia is the only one that can call himself a legend among the active artistes in the Nigerian music industry.
Timaya, real name Enitimi Alfred Odom, decried the situation where artistes start referring to themselves as legends after making music for a decade.
The Bam Bam crooner said this during a radio interview with SoundCity FM , stressing he wouldn’t even refer himself as a ‘legend’.
“In this part of the world, many artistes when they get to 10 years, they start shouting ‘I’m a legend’, ‘legendary’.
“To me, in this industry, the only person that can call himself a legend is 2face. The others shouldn’t. Even if people call me a legend, I don’t like to be seen like that.”
The 38-year-old dancehall star then argued that he is still the king of commercial music in the country.
“The crown never leaves. I am Timaya anytime any day, 13 years is not three years.
“People don’t understand that making a hit song doesn’t mean you are a star. Stars always shine, some people can make a hit song and you will never hear of them again. There’s no year I’ve never dropped a hit song.
“I don’t want to be number one. I just want to be a musician. A lot of people have come and gone but I’m still here.”

Travel / Re: Travel Freaks But No Money Get In Here Let's Talk by akinselurea: 8:01am On Jun 08, 2018 |
olujastro: The thread says Travel freaks which sounds like Tourism but the comments indicate people just want to run away from Nigeria.
If you want to go on tourism and have little money, then travel around West African countries. No need to spend money on visa or even passport. Just take the bus from Lagos and back. It should not cost you up to 6 digits in naira.
If you want to leave Nigeria, then you need tangible money for that. Your best bet is to go through study visa or skilled migration to Canada/Australia as it's almost impossible to get a job offer from a developed country while in Nigeria. For study visa, your best option is to find countries that offer free tuition like Norway and Germany so you don't have to worry about the huge cost of tuition fees. You only have to show proof of funds for living expenses for a year. So get a job, start a business to raise funds to leave Nigeria. Or get a family member as sponsor that can show proof of funds and lend you the required money. From there you can begin your tourism in Europe across 26 schengen visa free countries.
Wish you all good luck in your travel quests. Great |

cronsberg: Guys let us share ideas on how to escape this hell. I did my first degree abroad but was foolish enough to come back to this mess of a country and now i know how difficult it is to get out of this country. First things first, we need to plan seriously on how to get money, enough money, then we need to know that this is a quest that might take one to two years to plan and execute smoothly, then we need to be extremely patient, exercise self control, be very focused, and unshakably determined. Second is that i think we should focus on better countries that will allow you to work and study and stay after studies, countries like u.s, canada, new zealand, australia and maybe spain/portugal. I know those are expensive countries but remember our quest is to get out of nigeria legally, not to go as tourist or student and come back to this nija. And those are the better countries that i know that have some kind of stay after study program unlike those yeye uk, asian countries, easter europe etc to be cont. Good day everyone here, my opinion & plan is simple and straight forward... let 10 serious person come together to raise a million naira (1m) each ...making 10 million naira, then we register a company together, with this company and the 10 million as a bank statement... I think we are good to go & can send anyone to anywhere.....pls share your opinion 2 Likes |
