Why not, as you grow older, your mind becomes more independent. People are actually 'forced' into certain religions from socialisation but one gets to an age where they have to make THEIR own decisions. You can kidnap a child by luring him/her with a lollipop(literarilly) but definately not an adult. As we grow older, we are able to understand the pros and cons of everything in life that surrounds us, and have the freedom to make our own decisions and be accountable for them, the true definition of responsibility.

Na real waa for the RCC and Mary. I am a protestant and I understand that it would be impossible to convince any catholic overnight. But worshipping Mary's statue just blatantly contradicts one of the ten commandments, I'm sure you know it. And then if Jesus had brothers and sisters, how did Mary remain a virgin? To me, Mary was like any other woman in her time as far as her salvation is concerned, God just chose her sovreignly, not because she is special or anything. This is really a very interesting topic and I just felt I should share my views:

1. Really, it depends on how you define secular music. I like to define it as any music with lyrics that do not focus on God and/or His character i.e. any music is not focused on either or all of the three persons of the Godhead. Now such music has tons of sub-divisions; rap, r&b, jazz, etc. I have found out that a larger percentage of people, particularly youths listen to music for the words, not necessarily the aesthetics of the music. What makes music bad really, is  the message of the words. If it does not glorify God, it is bad. PERIOD. Now the bible gives us a guideline in  Phillipians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (KJV). Hence, if the words of the music incite thoughts that tally with the adjectives listed in this verse of scripture, it is good. This quote that I heard from Pastor Olubi Johnson bears a lot of relevance: "your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions,, your actions become your habits, your habits become your character, your character becomes your destiny". So you can see that it all begins in the mind. The battle is in the mind That means that the song does not have to be about Jesus or etc all the time, typical Celine Dion songs are good for mature couples.

2. Why then, you may ask particularly if you are privilieged to be a christian like I am, is bad/'secular' music more enjoyable, interesting and appealing to the typical/natural man? i'll show you this scripture:

Here, Jesus is speaking to His disciples concerning the endtime which we are in now.

--Moreover, the bible (not sure where it is but it sure is there) lets us know that Lucifer was the chief musician who coordinated the worship of God before He fell and became satan. He is now the prince of this world (jn 14:30). In short, he is a musician. Hence, when he sees men who are willing to compose music contrary to the will of God, he 'assists' them. He gives them innovative ideas and lyrics that will incite the wrong thoughts and actions, thus making men more immoral.
Finally, we must understand that ALL forms of music are from God, ie there is nothing wrong with christian rock and christian rap for example. It is just bad men that put bad words in them.

I have just two absolutely true facts/comments, which are both backed by the infallible word of God:

Number 1:- The WORD of GOD ALMIGHTY is very explicit AGAINST prayer to Mary to pray to God on our behalf:::
Ro 8:26 ¶  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Ro 8:27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because[b] he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. [/b]

I'm not a catholic, do not intend on being one and do not look down on them in any way. There are just some things that seem contradictory to the teachings in the bible.
Firstly, the bible clearly states:"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, " (King James Bible, Exodus 20:4,5).

The Bible clearly warns against even BOWING to a graven image. God is a jealous God and will not share His rightful glory with another.

"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." (Isaiah 42:
Isaiah 42:8 can only be interpreted one way, God is stingy when it comes to sharing glory and praise. It really makes God angry when anyone hails (praises) Mary. I have news for you my friend, Mary did not remain a virgin. After Jesus was virgin born through a miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit of God, Mary and Joseph married and had many children. Mary did not remain a virgin!

Mary was a SINNER. just like you and me. Mary had to trust Jesus Christ and ask Him for forgiveness of her sins to go to heaven. Mary is in heaven today ONLY because she believed upon Jesus Christ as Saviour. John 14:6 is very clear,

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

It is ONLY through Jesus Christ that anyone can go to heaven. This is simply because Jesus is the One Who paid the price for our sins upon the cross. Jesus has the nail-scared hands and feet, not El Papa over in Rome. The Pope is a dope and he has no hope apart from Jesus Christ. The Pope is not the vicar of heaven. If you hail Mary, then you are committing IDOLATRY.

"Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:" -Isaiah 2:8

God hates idolatry!

"The lofty looks of man shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and the LORD alone shall be exalted in that day." -Isaiah 2:11

What I learnt in church on sunday the 30th, is the importance of thanksgiving to God. God gave a certain American woman of God in the fifties a vision, at a time when she was suffering from the then incurable small pox. She had prayed and prayed and God showed her a vision in which she saw two scales, representing prayer and thanksgiving. The scale of prayer was so heavy that it weighed down completely. God then instructed her to henceforth, fill the scale of thanksgiving too and it was not until then that she got her healing.

God desires our praise, that is the only thing we can offer unto Him. Most times we expect God to meet our needs in isolation of the fact that God too has needs of the praise and worship of Him. Furthermore, God is more impressed with the prayer of thanksgiving because everybody, including the unbelievers pray to God and He answers many of these requests according to the faith of men, His mercies and His will. Paul and Silas praised God at the midnight hour, which is figurative of a time in one's life when there seems to be no ray of hope. God is saying that our praise is more important than our prayers at such times as these.

So in the midst of that trial, that sickness, that debt, that grief, that setback, that failure, whatever it is, quit praying and lift up your voice in praise to God. Praise Him for who He is, worship Him for His holiness and majesty, tell Him that you trust His word, because He is not a man that He should lie. Tell Him that you know that all things will work together for your good because His word says that He loves you with an everlasting love, and his mercies endure forever. Thank Him because you trust His sense of judgement, and You know that He will grant Your request when He knows that you are ready for it. remind Him that He said that He will supply all your NEEDS according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, therefore if the thing is not forthcoming, it is merely your want not your need and thank Him for witholding it from you(that one may be a bit difficult but its true)

For God's sake, this man ruled a whole nation for over 10 years at different times; that indicates at the very least that he has some level of education and expertise. CBS) EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. He seemed in many ways a typical college student -- president of his fraternity at Southern Illinois University, an aspiring rapper who wrote about finding a girlfriend who could cook. His favorite book was the Bible.

But Olutosin Oduwole also had not-so-typical interests, like buying and selling guns on the Internet. A sale of an M-16 machine gun that never materialized brought charges of fraud and theft earlier this month. And a court document says he was seen walking around campus wearing a bullet-resistant vest in May.

Then came the news this week: Inside his car, found disabled on the university campus in this St. Louis suburb, police said they found a handwritten note threatening a "murderous rampage" similar to the one in April at Virginia Tech that left 32 people and the gunman dead.

On Wednesday -- Oduwole's 22nd birthday -- he pleaded not guilty to making a terrorist threat, a felony. He was being held on a total $1.1 million bail -- $1 million of that for the terrorist threat charge, $100,000 on the other charges.

While Oduwole's friends and others say the purchase of weapons and his violent rap lyrics add up to a misunderstanding, police suspect they have in custody someone who was intent on carrying out the most terrible of crimes.

"The note was just one piece of the puzzle," said Otis Steward, an investigator in nearby Wood River who said Oduwole's allegedly fraudulent sale of a gun he never owned and his thirst lately for more firepower raised the level of police concern about him. At the time of his arrest, federal authorities had been investigating a gun dealer's concerns that Oduwole seemed overly eager to receive guns he had purchased online.

That alleged plot was revealed, authorities say, on a piece of paper found inside Oduwole's car July 20. Rap lyrics were scrawled on one side of the sheet and part of the flipside, where the words authorities found troubling were found.

The note, police say, demanded payment to a PayPal account, threatening that "if this account doesn't reach $50,000 in the next seven days then a murderous rampage similar to the VT shooting will occur at another highly populated university. THIS IS NO JOKE."

In the note, the writer suggested the shooting would target a "prestigious" university, but that word was crossed out. There was no direct mention of the 13,500-student Southern Illinois University in this city about 20 miles northeast of St. Louis.

Back at his university apartment, police said they discovered a loaded gun and, according to a search warrant, a photograph of Oduwole flashing gang signs. Police also seized two passports, each in Oduwole's name.

All that came on top of a tip from a gun dealer to federal authorities about a week prior to Oduwole's arrest concerned about his eagerness to receive several semiautomatic weapons he had ordered.

ATF agent Larry Washington said Oduwole was legally entitled to purchase the firearms, but federal authorities, with help from the dealer, intercepted the weapons and knew they would not make their way to Oduwole. They were investigating the concerns at the time of his arrest.

Then there is the MySpace page that appears to belong to Oduwole. There, set over a heavy beat, are songs charged with references to violence, sex, drugs and life in public housing projects.

"Pair of AKs waiting in the closet/ when I spray in the cribs/ sitting down counting money that I made," a male voice raps in a song called "Projects" that also references drugs and strippers.

"He liked to write music, not to hurt anybody," explained a woman who identified herself as his mother, but declined to give her name when reached at the Olad Adult Day Program -- a business Oduwole cited as his employer on a Facebook page listed under his name.

"He's not a troubled kid."

The woman said she knows the charges aren't true, "but at the same time, the way the country is right now, they don't give him a chance."

Others linked to Oduwole agree with her.

"I'm not a psychologist or psychiatrist, but I understand that in this environment -- post Sept. 11 -- authorities don't take any chances," said John Cernkovich, who until Wednesday was Oduwole's attorney in the fraud and theft case. "Unfortunately, (he) now is in custody because of that."

The arrest was an "absolute misunderstanding," said Steve Holman, a 24-year-old SIU senior who identified himself as Oduwole's friend. He declined to discuss it further.

Oduwole's rap lyrics were violent, but his interests: cars, football, eating barbecue don't exactly fit those of a terrorist. Another possibility, some believe, is that he was trying to extort money, accused of selling guns he didn't own and threatening violence he never intended to carry out.

Oduwole has had his difficulties at the school. After he started attending classes in the 2005-06 year, he sat out a year on academic probation, according to Greg Conroy, a university spokesman who said Oduwole was taking summer classes.

But it appears he was popular. He had recently been elected president of Iota Phi Theta fraternity, Conroy said. And on a Facebook page for a Tosin Oduwole at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, hundreds of friends are listed, as are a daily Bible verse and boasts of Oduwole's Nigerian heritage.

The page paints a picture of a typical student. He cited interests that include "music cars, football real estate, day dreaming, eating bar-b-cue, " He wrote he was a fan of rap music, R&B, and performers such as Patti Labelle, and his favorite television shows included The Sopranos to CNN Headline News.

While the university listed Oduwole's permanent address as Maplewood, N.J., the woman identifying herself as his mother works in the St. Louis area, and a Facebook page appearing to belong to Oduwole says he's from St. Louis.

Different occupations require different skills and undoubtedly, some skills are more complicated than others. Hence they require longer periods of training. People who do such jobs tend to be very proud of themselves, and hence look down on others. So for you, which career has the most arrogant fellows. For me, it would be pilots.
