EducationRe: 10 Most Annoying Nigerian Media English Expressions. by AKO1(m): 7:08am On Nov 27, 2014
Jarus:
I disagree with you.

For the first, 'development' is not necessarily positive. Have you heard of 'developing story'? Developing stories are ironically usually (though not necessarily) negative

As for the second, in fact, the opposite of what you said is the correct thing. But is meant to mean what join the first phrase with what is not obvious or what is the natural flow of occurrence.

For example, you wrote: They had an accident but they are fine. This is correct. When one has an accident, the ordinary, almost natural thing to follow is that "you are not fine (as a result of the accident)". But when it does not follow the ordinary consequence, you use "but" to connect the phrases, "but they are fine".

This is my own opinion too, formed through observation of usage over time, not something I sat down and learnt in any English grammar class. But I think it has more likelihood of being correct than your explanations up there.
No it's not your opinion, "but" and "development" don't have any default connotation.

Let me add my own.

So and so "disclosed this": A disclosure usually uncovers something secret but the media uses this for the most redundant information. Oh, in his speech, the Governor disclosed that good governance and the rule of law will ensure a better future for Nigeria. Thanks a lot for this mind-blowing exclusive.

Anybody else watching COZA's live stream? They seem more hyped up than they would normally be, on some "the devil tried but he failed..."

I really hope Ese releases the recordings at some point.

naektmdo: Thank you sir, your work is worth appreciation. But I would request that it is "Supplemental" and not Supplementary. Also can you please change the color of "Supplemental Educational Resources" and giving the logo a tech attitude by making "WANI" image based and not text based. As we are provider in print and audio-video material image based logo will help build quick identity. Thanks hope you will do me this favour. Thanks.

I will try and give a few of the requests a shot, since it seems the OP is no longer freelancing.

naektmdo: we are educational resources provider. We create specific printed and audio-video material for university students as per need. We need a logo to build identity. Colour : navy blue. Font: any that would match the logo style. Thanks.
What is the name of your educational resources provider?

Yes if you have to. And on a more serious note, be aware of and absolutely disgusted by the level of violence against women in our society, and fight it whenever you can. Even if it means fighting your violent guy friends.
TravelRe: Nigerians And Fake Accent by AKO1(m): 7:23pm On Jun 29, 2013
aniffy4eva: IMHO.. Your accent doesn't matter.. as long as you COMMUNICATE effectively.
TheBeat FM doesn't seem to get this. They have a penchant for OAP's that sound a certain way. One or two people with an accent is okay but when much of your line-up sounds a certain way, it's clear there is an editorial policy that says foreign-sounding = better. It's a revolting, post-colonial policy.

That (rant) being said, living abroad can change the way you speak, and then people misjudge it as a fake accent. It must be frustrating to speak in your Naija accent and have to always repeat yourself because people don't understand.

tolusaliu: Oh sorry is been owned by the Americans not the South Africans but just a branch in South Africa
Rubbish. Shoprite America in the US is different from the Shoprite Holdings founded in SA in 1979.

Shoprite is a classic example of China Africa in Africa.
PoliticsRe: Shoprite Opens In Ibadan by AKO1(m): 12:44pm On Jun 28, 2013
Ogbeche77: Report has it that customers who visited shoprite on it first day of opening in ibadan were over 102,000, but they recorded just N35,000 sale

Suprite ni ilu ibadan, Aku sopping ooo... Sopping atu wa lara ooo
I was one of the window shoppers there yesterday (yes my shame = 0) and I was surprised at the number of people that were *actually* buying stuff. Yes you had one or two people with only toothpaste and dettol soap, but most people were filling their trolleys/baskets.

To those saying it will close soon: Shoprite calls itself Africa's largest supermarket chain. They are not dumb or poor like some of you. Before a business of that magnitude invests an amount of that magnitude in a new market/city, they do their research. Thoroughly. There is a market for them in Ibadan and that's why they're here.

My only concern was that there's quite a number of local South African products that the average Nigerian may not be used to. I hope people are experimental enough to keep them on the shelves.

Foreign AffairsRe: Why Is Aljazeera Reporter And Camera Always With Rebels In Reporting Rebellion by AKO1(m): 3:04pm On Jun 20, 2013
I won't say they take the side of the rebels.

They have established themselves as a news brand that emphasizes the story 'from the ground'. In most cases, the people on the ground are the dissidents, or rebels like you call them, not the government.

That's why it would appear that they are siding with the rebels. However, they make it a point to further in the story than most other media.

Really loved this!

I'm fine with "pinging" if you're with the right crowd and at the right place (e.g. with friends or live tweeting a dinner awards ceremony).

But I'd add no earphones!
