The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) is set to begin a mother of all “Student's Mass Action” on September 05, 2017 in defense of nation's posterity which is currently been toyed with. For almost three (3) weeks now Nigerian students of public universities in Nigeria have been at home for no fault of theirs, instead because of government inability to live up to its statutory responsibilities to the country. ASUU had on August 14, embarked on an indefinite strike to demand the implementation of the 2009 agreement with the Federal Government on conditions of service, funding, university autonomy and academic freedom. Since then, deliberations between the two parties (FG and ASUU) to suspend the industrial strike which has crippled academic activities across campuses in the country ended in deadlock. Calls by students under the aegis of NANS who are always at the receiving end urging both parties to find a common ground in the interest of nation's education also fell on deaf ears. While ASUU are genuinely making every effort to put our universities at par with their counterparts across the world, the present government has unfortunately maintained such posture as “insensitive”, suggesting it doesn't give a damn about its students. Contradictory statements in the past days only justifies this common jealously-held opinion of Nigerians, especially at the grassroots, that our leaders have no regard for the people whom entrusts and empowers them to mann public affairs on their behalf and interest. Indeed our political class are yet to get their bearing. They pay more attention to their personal gains to the detriment of the education of our youth. They forget that no nation can rise if the youth are not properly educated and technologically oriented. After all, why won't our political elite be so adept at gambling with the future of the youths? They can afford to care less about the education sector because their children are in safe and comfortable environments abroad. While those whose children are not schooling abroad put their children in private universities. That is why they are prepared to ignore public tertiary institutions in the country. From President Buhari, Vice President Osinbajo, Senate President Saraki, Rt. Hon. Dogara, Gov. Rochas etc, the story is all the same. Recently, we have seen pictures of some of these top public officials as they joyfully without shame appear with their children on the pages of newspapers or on television screens announcing the graduation of their children from Cambridge, Oxford, Harvard, London School of Economics and other high ranking universities in the world. Indeed, some of our leaders have no shame and honour! In view of this and in furtherance of NANS charter of demands, the apex students body is set to begin a mass action for students to return to their classrooms and also for education to be given its due priority in our budget at all level of governments. Recalls that NANS President, Comrade Aruna Kadiri had a week ago in a press statement urged the federal government to resolve the impasse with ASUU to call-off the strike which unfortunately has failed to do so. “We have had enough of toying with the future of students. The FG must do everything possible to get ASUU back to the classrooms since the strike was a result of their inability to honour their negotiated agreement with ASUU,” the statement by President Kadiri reads. On behalf of the President, I want to publicly use this medium to invite all Nigerian Students both home and diaspora to be part of this planned mass action to save the tertiary institutions from total collapse. We must not allow our education system to die before our voices be heard. Remember, “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” The take-off point for the protest is Unity Fountain Abuja by 10:00am prompt. Freedom cometh only by struggle. Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta!!! Being The Text of A World Press Conference By The Comrade Aruna Kadiri led National Association of Nigerian Students at Aaron’s Place, Independence Layout Enugu on Sunday July 9, 2017. Introduction and recognition of dignitaries! When philosophers refuse to congregate mediocre take charge of the affairs of things, Consequently the conscience of the nation, the students of Nigeria under the auspices of NANS the umbrella and supreme body of students’ movement in Nigeria have deem it fit to expel mediocrity from philosophising on the state of the nation of our dear country. Recall that as part of the first challenge that confronted the Nigeria state on security issues was in 1962 Nigerian-Anglo Defence Pact that only the Nigerian students had the courage to reject and subsequently shutdown. Today, we have resolved vehemently and consciously to address the nation and traditionally give them direction. Consequently the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, consisting of the National Executives, The Zonal Coordinators and their leadership, the Joint Campus Committee Chairmen, Students’ Union Government Presidents and indeed our revered Stakeholders are gathered in the very significant and strategic city of Enugu, the Coal City. The history of Enugu State in the Nigerian project cannot be overemphasized, especially as the capital of the Old Eastern Region and indeed the headquarters of the Igbo people. We are here to begin the process of practically rising to the occasion of the urgency of Now. Things are falling apart as far as the unity of the country is concerned and it appears that other stakeholders are still in deep slumber. There is an obvious state of emergency and it seems we are not even aware. But NANS shall not stand and watch this great edifice crumble due to our collective indiscretion. We must commend the conveners Comrade Victor Ezenagu and all the students and Stakeholders in Enugu Axis. The choice of Enugu for this Press Conference is very significant and we consider this occasion epochal. Among the issues threatening to tear the country apart is the agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), a group of Some Igbo people. So in coming to Enugu, it is to identify with the people of Igboland and share in their concerns. But while doing that we must remain united. The issues boiling and heating up the polity include the agitation for Biafra; the campaign for restructuring, the efforts to maintain the status quo and the threats by some Arewa youths to eject the Igbos from the North. These are becoming deafeningly loud. NANS will surely take its stand on one of these arguments. But in the final deployment of NANS solution we will exhibit the highest sense of scholarship, intellectualism, and patriotic discretion with the hope that the Nigerian State will absorb our recommendations to test a workable solution for the hydra-headed problems confronting the Nigerian State. Concerning the June 16, 2017 so called Kaduna Declaration, NANS wishes to assure all Nigerians living anywhere in Nigeria that there should be no reason to fear or panic. Whereas we are on the alert and ready to protect the Nigerian State, we call on the security agencies to do their work effectively and to justify the huge tax that Nigerians pay for Security Votes. It is to this effect that NANS shall be occupying great City of Kaduna on a PEACE AND UNITY RALLY Starting from September 30- October 3, 2017 as part of our efforts to demonstrate the one-ness of Nigeria. The Peace and Unity is to reassure people in the North and indeed the country, that the country is united. And it is our intention to occupy the psyche of the country with our message of Peace and Unity. While we are doing this we need to call on the Federal government to immediately to engage all stakeholders to begin to find a lasting solution to these issues and douse the tension in the country. In between all these agitations there must be a solution which will keep Nigeria united, just and equitable. This is the stance of NANS. We must begin to engage. It is very urgent because we are already in a State of Emergency where Youth Corp members look for the nearest opportunity to redeploy on security grounds. Thereby defeating the nationalist idea of NYSC, and plunging the nation into national panic. Hence we say, the Nigerian House must not crumble. The signs are ominous and all progressive Nigerians must join in the fight for a united and equitable Nigeria. People may have reasons to feel aggrieved in Nigeria but we must not lose sight of the potency of our size and asset of our number. All over the world, we can see what the United States, China, India are doing with their size. California is the 6th largest Economy in the world. If she were not in the United States she would not have achieved that economic feat. It is time for us to unite. There must be some give and take let us work it out. Aluta Continua, Victoria Ascerta! “May God give this country leaders not rulers, leaders with the fear of God.” -Maitama Sule. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has described Elder Statesman, Alh. Yusuf Maitama Sule who died on July 03, 2017 as a true patriot whose counsel will be greatly missed. NANS President, Comr. Aruna Kadiri lamented that Nigeria would surely miss the “uncommon patriotism and nationalism”, which the late Dan Masanin Kano typified. In view of his immense contributions to world politics, Kadiri said the death of the former Nigeria's Representative to the United Nations was “not only a loss to the country but to entire Africa and beyond”. When he was Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, he was one of those that stood firmly against apartheid and also for the unity of the country. Kadiri prayed that Almighty Allah (SAW) will console the Maitama family and grant the soul of the departed elder statesman eternal rest. He had also served Nigeria as a law-maker, Federal Commissioner of Public Complaints, Minister for National Guidance, Minister of Mines and Power between 1954 to late 1970s. Sule died in a hospital in Cairo, Egypt, after suffering from pneumonia and a chest infection. He was aged 87. His remains has since been buried according to islamic rites at the Wali Mai Geza cemetery in Kofar Mazugal, Kano State. Akolo Raymond Eggon SSA on Media To The NANS President Sunday July 09th, 2017

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) under the stewardship of Comr. Aruna Kadiri, condemned in totality the recent threats issued by the Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY), ordering Igbos to vacate the region within 3 months. Regrettably, the Northern Elders’ Forum (NEF), on Friday, June 09, expressed support to the call by the Coalition of Northern Youth Groups for Igbos to leave the region within the aforementioned period. However, in case the above mentioned coalitions are drifting in the shackles of ignorance and misinformation, Nigeria as a populous nation in the continent of Africa was built on the foundation of unity, therefore, their unguarded decision cannot stand. Like the senate rightly say, “Nigeria's Unity Is Not Negotiable”.NANS as a patriotic body with concern for national unity and progress can say with a loud voice that the declaration the so-called coalitions gave does not in any way represent the North, but rather their ungodly interests that may subject this nation to unrest which Nigerian students have resolved to curtail. Additionally, NANS is also reminding all Nigerians, both home and abroad that tribal, regional and religion affiliation are agents of separation, regression to every progressing nation like ours, so, disintegration is a luxury we can't afford. I commend the governor of Kaduna State, Mal. Nasiru Ahmad El-Rufai for his swift action to subdue and arrest tension that may await this county in effect to the declaration, which is uncalled for. As President of Nigerian Students, I cannot emphasize more at this time than we must not only be resilient, united, determined and focused as a people to rebuff all moves for secession, but also have the will, desire, courage, and conviction to forge ahead with our plans for peaceful co-existence and socio-economic stability. I hereby call on all Nigerians, most especially those at the helm of public affairs to rise up and stand firmly to defend one Nigeria. We will be failing if we do not do something that will reassure the people on the need for one, indivisible Nigeria. NANS believe in the Nigeria Project and in the Nigerian People and I know we will overcome these trying times and rise above them to be better, stronger and more united than ever. We are greater together than apart. Long Live The Federal Republic of Nigeria Aruna Kadiri, NANS President Saturday June 10, 2017

I and indeed the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) are deeply constrained to have to respond to a piece of empty, inelegant, grammatically flawed and poorly written rejoinder to my position on the undeserving Honorary Doctorate Degree conferred on Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo by the Ekiti State University is undeserving. This so called rejoinder by Abu-Ubaidah Ibrahim Kuna which is at its best a piece of gibberish is the Gombe State Governor's official response to my factual position on the possibly purchased, political and fraudulent Honorary Degree, through Mr Abu-Ubaidah Ibrahim Kuna who is his Personal Assistant on New Media. Of course, Mr Kuna started by expressing his frustration in being “compelled to react about the senseless, misguided and mischief story of the so called President of NANS…” We understand you brother! It is stomach infrastructure. I know that Kuna was ordered to say something. Ordinarily, the young man was not ready and prepared. And his publication says it all. It is therefore with excruciating pain that I am making this response to a stinking rubbish published in the name of a “big man”. The reason for this response is clearly in the interest of the good public who was fed with a hotchpotch of fat lies, deliberate misinformation and unappealing political jargons. We are not interested in the so called achievements of Mr Dankwambo in the educational sector. The day to interrogate that will come. Let me stick with the aborted National Convention of NANS in Gombe in July 2016 and where history places Mr Ibrahim Dankwambo for his unwarranted onslaught and damn right Satanism against his innocent visitors (the leadership of Nigerian students nationwide). Kuna can be compelled to help his boss grandstand today. But Dankwambo will meet with his terrorism in his lifetime, and will sorely regret it. My first point is that NANS declared Mr. Dankwabo a persona non grata on our campuses for terrorizing and unleashing monumental mayhem on hapless Nigerian students in a desperate attempt to impose one Chinonso Obasi on NANS. Thank God that Kuna did not pretend about this. He said that the fugitive, fake and impostor, Chinonso is their own President; only in Gombe Government House. Even Chinonso’s State Government in Ebonyi which supported his aspiration to NANS presidency has accepted the outcome of the superior wish of the students. They do not recognise him as NANS anything because they know that to do so is immoral, indecent and will amount to a criminal conspiracy. But for Dankwambo and his stirrer Chief of Staff, there is no space for morality, decency and abhorrence of crime. Consequently, the attempt by Kuna to defend and dress his boss in borrowed robes failed even before this response. So no amount of noise can vindicate Dankwambo and his Chief of Staff (the chief executor of the evil plot). They remain enemies of our genuine comrades and students. That position cannot change no matter how many honours procured or the quantum of balderdash pushed into the media space. The second point is that we are told that Mr Dankwambo holds a PhD. Congratulations to him very sincerely. But I want Kuna to know that though PhDs and Honorary Doctorate Degrees are prestigious they can be bagged by idiots. So nobody in the NANS family is interested in that. They can go and tell the story of their governor's certificates to their local market women. In past, many failed politicians had procured these honors. That market is still very much alive. And let me reiterate that we will be on this matter till Mr Dankwambo returns the purchased and highly unmerited Honorary Doctorate Degree. Finally, I wish to advise Mr Abu-Ubaidah Ibrahim Kuna to endeavor to return to school. He should, in doing so have the humility to start from JSS 1 where he can learn parts of speech, tenses and concord. This advice is in absolute good faith. It is embarrassing that a PhD holder Governor could hire the services of a man who is incapable of writing a coherent and grammatically decent (not even correct) piece to manage his new media structure. Anyway, I know that it is a poverty alleviation appointment. But I would suggest that next time such appointees should be in areas where they will not have any business with the public. In these days of environmental activism, the willful pollution of the public space is a big offence. The stench of the last pollution by Kuna has constituted s big problem to the social ecosystem. If the governor must speak, let those who know what to say and how to say it handle the speech. Kadiri Aruna University of Benin President, NANS April 20, 2017

NANS Partners Police, Flag-off “Police Is Your Friend” Sensitization Campaign The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni, has flagged off the “Police Is Your Friend” sensitization campaign. The campaign in partnership with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) was flagged-off at the Force Headquarters, Abuja on Wednesday April 12th, 2017. The partnership tagged “The Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Students Partnership for Peace Building in Nigeria”, according to NANS President, Comr. Aruna Kadiri, “would help douse Police-students confrontations and strengthen unity”. “The idea to partner with the police boiled out of the fact that, the students represent a very large percentage of Youths in Nigeria and a partnership would help douse Police-students confrontations and strengthen unity,” he said. President Kadiri who lauded the peace building initiative, expressed confidence that the campaign will reach all campuses cut across the 36 states and FCT. He appealed to all Nigerian students across the country, zonal coordinators and EXCOs, students leaders most especially SUGs to get ready for the campaign as its an all-inclusive national programme. In his remark, IGP Idris, said the Nigeria Police will continue to operate within the Principles of Democratic Policing in dealing with Nigerian Students and in all its dealings with members of the Public. Also in attendance during the flag-off ceremony were DIGs and other top officials of the force. Police Is Indeed Your Friend! NANS is fully committed to peace and nation building. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has described the Honorary Doctorate Degree Conferred on Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State by the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti as “undeserving”. President of the apex students’ body, Comrade Aruna Kadiri, who lamented on the “deliberate act of terror” meted on Nigerian students by the governor through his Chief of Staff during the inconclusive 2016 National Convention of the association in Gombe, says the governor is an enemy of NANS. “Governor Dankwambo is an enemy of NANS. He unleashed terror on Nigerian students during the 2016 National Convention held in Gombe, terminating it halfway. Therefore the honorary doctorate degree conferred on him by Ekiti varsity is undeserving,” Kadiri stated. The former Accountant General of the Federation was also the main figure who engineered the current faction in the apex students body. NANS which has earlier declared “personal non granta on him in all our Campuses” demanded that “Governor Dankwambo should honourably relinquish the undeserving degree. “We have declared personal non granta on him in all our Campuses and it still stands. NANS under my watch will take this fight to his door steps and expose the real person he is. We call on him to relinquish the degree ” President Kadiri added. NANS makes it clear that the “calls to relinquish the degree” will continue trending on social media, print media and electronic media until he returns the undeserving award conferred on him. The association also makes it categorical clear that any school that conferred on him such honour again will receive the wrath of NANS, declaring Governor Dankwambo unfit for any award consideration. The governor, alongside Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II; Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, and House of Representatives member, Oladipupo Adebutu, were honoured with honorary doctorate degrees on Saturday at the grand finale of the 22nd Convocation of the aforementioned citadel of higher learning.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has frowned against the summoning of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba by the Nigerian Senate over the certificate scandal allegation levelled against Sen. Dino Melaye. According to media reports, The Senate has summoned the Vice Chancellor of the aforementioned citadel of learning to appear before it Monday March 27, 2017 and explain his own side of the story. Recall that Senator Dino (APC-Kogi West), has been embroiled in a certificate scandal after reports from Sahara Reporters indicated that although he attended ABU, but he did not graduate. Reacting to the summon, the apex students condemns it in totality, calling on the Senate to “be responsible enough to give us dividends of democracy”. “NANS frowns against the summoning of Prof. Ibrahim Garba, the Vice-Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (ABU). Rather than summoning the Vice-Chancellor, why not Dino Melaye provides his certificate and Senate takes it to the university for verification,” the President of NANS, Comr. Aruna Kadiri stated. With this development, Kadiri explained that “it therefore means if 200 graduands have issue with certificate, the banks, ministries, multinationals and even a married man that doubts the authenticity of his wife's certificate will also summon the Vice-Chancellor to his house for questioning”. The NANS President who frowned at the summon describing it “frivolities” noted that the country was enmeshed in enough economic troubles and needed to focus on remedies. “The Nigerian Senate should be responsible enough to give us dividends of democracy. We say no to the summoning of the Vice-Chancellor for frivolities,” he added. Akolo Raymond Eggon SSA on Media To The NANS President Monday March 27, 2017

AS the recession continues to bites more harder in the country, The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have demanded immediate and urgent increase in wages and salaries for workers at all levels of government. President of NANS, Comrade Aruna Kadiri, speaking on Wednesday during the public hearing of the Senate/House Appropriation Committees on the 2017 Appropriation Bill said that Nigerian workers needed an immediate wage increment salary that would commensurate with their labour and enable them to live decently. Among other Nigerian students leaders in attendance during the joint session was Comr. Shettima Umar, Vice President National Affairs of NANS. President Kadiri stated that such increase should take into consideration, the economic realities in the country, especially the continued rise in prices of food, cost of goods and services among others. “All through the budget, federal government simply refuse to acknowledge in practical terms the reality of state of the workers who have suffered severely from the economic crunch, high inflation and consequences of the galloping exchange rate. NANS therefore demand a commensurate increase in workers' Salaries at the federal, state and local government level,” he said. The students apex body also demand for better welfare for Nigerian youths under the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC). “It is grossly inadequate to allocate N500 per day for feeding of corp members considering the realities on ground. Our Corp members should be adequately catered for. NANS also demand better welfare for our corp members,” said President Kadiri. Furthermore, in pursuance of NANS Charter of demand for adequate and qualitative education in Nigeria, President Kadiri, has called on the federal government to start implementing the 26 percent budgetary allocation to education as recommended by UNESCO which Nigeria is a signatory. To boast SMEs in the bid to reduce unemployment, NANS called on “government to articulate policy whereby all banks give out loan to Small and Micro businesses at single digit interest rate”. The association also welcome the rapid development of infrastructure, most especially railway and roads. However, it demand to be part of the team monitoring its implementation. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has dissociated itself from the planned nationwide protest schedule to start today February 06, 2017, across the country, seek prayers for Mr President”. Speaking through its president, Comr. Aruna Kadiri, the students apex body called on all Nigerian students across the country to “remain calm and go about their normal academic pursuit”. The #IStandWithNigeria which has unfortunately taken a political undertone forcing notable front-liner Innocent “Tuface” Idibia among others to withdraw earlier supports, according to Kadiri, “NANS was never part of it ab initio”. “We don't understand the intent of the nationwide protest or whether it has any political undertone, but NANS was never part of it ab initio. In fact, NANS don't join protest, it lead,” President Kadiri said. NANS warns that considering the status of President Buhari who is rumoured “critical ill”, the protest will only worsen Mr president's health condition, which by extension worsening the state of affairs in the country. He advised that President Buhari who has travelled out of the country needs our prayers now more than ever and as a responsible citizens, we must do the needful. “You don't protest against a sick person. All he needs now is prayers to get well to enable this administration take us out of this quagmire the country is currently in,” he advised. “I therefore call on all Nigerian Students all over the country to remain calm and go about their normal academic pursuit and pray along for the quick recovery of Mr President”. In the past years, precisely between 1999-2016, Nigerian students rather than been optimistic as one leadership succeeds another had instead becomes more sceptical with each successive NANS leadership, suspicious of their every decision or undertakings. However the story began to change gradually and positively after Aruna Kadiri, a former coordinator of Zone B took oath of office as president. The revolutionary President being a comrade of his word, who had earlier promised to reclaim NANS from Area 3 Garden comrades to its rightful owners, students across various campuses, alongside other elected officials took oath of office in a first of its kind inauguration held on campus, University of Abuja. Comrade Aruna Kadiri (UniBen Ticket), who was elected president of NANS on September 04, 2016 among others promised to redeemed the association' lost glory, returning the apex students body to the past where it's views on national issues were taking with every modicum of seriousness. Recall, from 1966 to 1999, with the brief exception of the three years of civil rule between 1979 and 1983, Nigeria was dominated by a brutal military dictatorship. The military era represented a dark period for most Nigerians. It introduced the greatest evils for which Nigeria has been marked – corruption, inefficiency; poverty; a total waste of the national resources in a period that ought to have, as did happen elsewhere in the world, established the firm foundations for national development and prosperity. The worst of this reigned from 1985 to 1999. It was a period that also saw the most persistent and sustained opposition to military rule. It was a period shaped by the anti-military pro-democracy struggle. Among the icons of that struggle in the 1980s was the Students Movement then under the national coalition of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) The period as reported by Vanguard also saw the most persistent and sustained opposition to military rule. It was a period shaped by the anti-military pro-democracy struggle. Among the icons of that struggle in the 1980s was the Students Movement then under the national coalition of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). Among the more formidable leaders of students in the Nigerian Universities in the 1980s was Mr. Labaran Maku, a card-carrying Marxist, and currently the National Secretary of the opposition All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA). As President of the University of Jos Students Union, one of the most virile and politically conscious Students community in Nigeria in those years, Labaran Maku who had taken over from a formidable tippler called Charlie –P Ekanem in 1984, steered and led the Unijos students to oppose the Buhari junta’s policy withdrawing meal subsidies in Nigerian universities. The withdrawal of the meal subsidies by the Buhari military administration raised student meal tickets from fifty kobo to sixty kobo, and the system had to be deregulated to open Cafeteria services to private providers. In defiance of the Buhari government’s policy, Labaran Maku led mobilization campaigns, and indeed on his way from one of the meetings of the tactical committee to begin a nation-wide students protest at Nsukka, had a near-miss: he escaped arrest and the security dragnet by abandoning the University of Jos Students Union bus at Markudi and hiking it. Such hounding did not stop him from leading the “Ango-Must-Go” protests, a fall out from the mishandling at the Ahmadu Bello University where students had been killed by anti-riot policemen in the 1986 Students-led opposition to the Structural Adjustment Policies proposed by the Babangida dictatorship. Those days were the glory moments of NANS which President Kadiri vowed to restored. • First of Its Kind Inauguration To begin the redemption process, Kadiri insist that their Inauguration must be held on campus, which it did happened at the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada FCT. Nigerian students welcome this rare feat chanting “At Last NANS Is Back To Campus”. Before now it has been a common practice where the inauguration of officials wasn't held on campuses, creating an impression that NANS has been snatched from the real owners, which was true. • Nigerian Students In Turkey Detained Immediately after its inauguration, the newly inaugurated NANS officials led by President Kadiri and other Nigerian students stormed Turkish Embassy in Abuja in protest and demanding for the unconditional release of their colleagues who were allegedly arrested at the Turkish capital, Istabul upon arrival from Nigeria. The protest was follow-up with a fact finding/solidarity visit to Turkey President Kadiri where he met with students, management and officials of Turkish government. The Turkish intervention resulted in the release of over 50 Nigerian students that were arrested by the Turkish Government. • Depoliticized NANS Regrettably, some leaders of NANS in the past has reduced the association's image to a sort of political enterprise, providing endorsement/solidarity services for serving or aspiring political servants in exchange of meal ticket. President Kadiri in the bid to stamped out this ugly trend which he described as “image laundering”, stated that NANS under his watch will remain apolitical. However, according to him, the organisation “will continue to collaborate with government and individuals in achieving some of her objectives as long as such cooperation/ventures do not affect our corporate image or negatively influence our decision making”. • End To Awards Jamboree “NANS under my watch has stopped dishing out awards in bit,” says President Kadiri. “NANS awards which will be issued to only deserving persons and organisations will be done once in a year,” he added. This decision by the President Kadiri-led administration put an end to the age-long award jamboree saga which has ruined the organisation public image. • Unionization of Nigerian Campuses Among other policies of the Kadiri-led administration is the unionization of all Nigerian campuses. To achieve this, NANS under Kadiri's watch has continually advocated against care-taker students' unions with follow-up action which has started yielding result. For example, School of Health Benin-city, Edo State had since 2013 been without a SUG, however following President Kadiri intervention it was reinstated with elections schedule to hold in February. Other schools have also turned from caretaker committees to organising a student union elections. • Reinstatement of Politically Victimised Students “Our administration will be passionate about the plight of politically victimized students! Wherever they exist, we shall deploy all at our disposal in ensuring their reinstatement. Restoring their rights and liberties shall be one of our main policy thrust”, President Kadiri stated. In the bid to ensure this, immediately after taking oath of office, Kadiri in a well publicised press conference informed schools management and relevant agencies of the new order, warning that “victimization of students will be viewed by my Presidency as a direct confrontation of NANS and a deliberate attempt to test our might!”. It is worthy of appreciation to note that the NANS President soonest shall embark on aluta journey to FUT Minna, Niger State to address the issue of the expulsion of 700 students of the school. “We are bent on resolving all issues affecting our fellow students,” Aruna Kadiri stated. A lot of schools so far have turned from caretaker committees to organising a students union elections. The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Aruna Kadiri, on Saturday January 21 visited the scene and victims of last week suicide bomb blast in the University of Maiduguri (UniMaid) who are presently receiving treatments at the University Teaching Hospital. Speaking during the visit, Kadiri sympathised with the University community, government and the good people of Borno State over the unfortunate incident which claimed the lives of some students and a lecturer. The President who was accompanied by some notable comrades and students leaders, prayed for Allah (SWT) to grant the souls of the deceased aljanatul firdaus and wished survivors quick and perfect recovery. He described the BokoHaram sect as humanity's common enemy, urged Nigerians to unite, support the governments and military in the fight against terrorism. He expressed confidence in the current leadership of the Nigerian Armed Forces, urged fellow Nigerians to continue to pray for them and the country at large. Meanwhile, before visiting the scene of the blast, Kadiri addressed the management of the university, where he commended them for the proactive security measures put in place to avoid any future re-occurrence. In the President's entourage were Comrade Ibrahim Ahmadu (Coach), Comrade Adamu Bauchi, Comrade Yahaya Mohammad Sabo, Comrade Ahmad Tijjani Shehu (TJ Crouch), Comrade L Gambo, Aluta Commander, Stakeholders and other SUG/SRC presidents across the region. Earlier in the day, Kadiri on his way to Borno State stopped at Aminu Saleh College of Education Azare, Bauchi State where he had a brief discussion with the SUG Officials of the foremost citadel of learning. The NANS President who had been in the Northern part of the country since Thursday January 19, also visited other campuses, most notable BUK and Sa'adatu Rimi College of Education where he commissioned a Students Social Centre, a project of the Comr. Tahir Suleiman led SUG. Furthermore, he paid NANS Zone A Deputy Coordinator, Comr. Zainab T. Baba who lost her beloved mum some weeks ago a condolence visit at the family' residence in Kano State. The first of its kind Campus Tour by the NANS President, commenced from the southern part, where among other campuses visited University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State in the bid to ensure the reinstatement of the 23 expelled students. He was also in Edo State School of Health Technology, Benin City, where he promised to monitor the forthcoming SUG elections in fulfilment of his campaign promise to revamp students unionism nationwide. Recall that the school had since 2013 being operating without a Students Union Government (SUG). However following the intervention of NANS, it was reinstated by the management. President Kadiri will round-up the Northern Nigeria Tour visiting other campuses also in Zone A and C as well. It is worthy of appreciation to note that the NANS President soonest shall embark on aluta journey to FUT Minna, Niger State to address the issue of the expulsion of 700 students of the school. “We are bent on resolving all issues affecting our fellow students,” Aruna Kadiri stated. Stay tune for more update. Viva Aluta! Akolo Raymond Eggon SSA On Media To The NANS President. Sunday January 22, 2017.

Press Release Greatest Nigerian Students In keeping to his oath of office to protect the rights of every Nigerian Student, Comr. Aruna Kadiri have penciled down University of Port-Harcourt, Rivers State and Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo State “a top priority in 2017” for inhuman rustication of 23 students and arbitrary increase in school fees respectively. To put the record straight, NANS under the proactive leadership of Comr. Aruna Kadiri, has never and will never support any administrative rascality. His administration is passionate about the plight of politically victimized students and wherever they exist, we shall deploy all at our disposal in ensuring their reinstatement. For the avoidance of doubt, he will personally lead all such struggles unless it becomes absolutely impossible to do so. Recall, during his campaign he promised that if elected president his administration will be passionate about the plight of politically victimized students, restoring their rights and liberties shall be one of our main policy thrust. Without mincing words, NANS condemn in totality the recent rustication of UniPort Students which from all indications was political and call for their immediate reinstatement and compensation accordingly. The action is viewed by the Comr. Kadiri-led administration as a direct confrontation of NANS and a deliberate attempt to test our might. His leadership is willing and ready to deploy all at her disposal in ensuring their reinstatement. The right of every Nigerian students is a priceless asset. Also, in line with NANS charter of demand for qualitative and affordable education in Nigeria for every Nigerian Students, we stand on our earlier demand regarding the tuition hike of AAU Ekpoma. The management must return school fees to Status Quo and it is non-negotiable. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) under Comr. Aruna Kadiri's watch has therefore after exhausting all channels of dialogue settled to confront these two institutions with mega protest capable of crippling both academic and non-academic activities in the schools since the anti-students decisions taken by the authorities hasn't been reversed. The school managements should be ready for our direct confrontation for its the only language they understand. Lastly and most importantly, in the spirit of Aluta, we call on fellow students, stakeholders and supporters to remain calm and wait for further instructions from us. Together we march, together we shall succeed. Viva Aluta! Signed: Akolo Raymond Eggon SSA on Media To The NANS President December 29, 2016

The attention of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has been drawn to reportage that the Senate Committee on Communications have affirmed the decision taken by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to increase data price. NANS under the amiable leadership of Comr. Aruna Kadiri, intensely kicked against the alluded decision by NCC with legislative consolidation from the Committee. Recall that NCC in the month of November, 2016, proposed hike in data price which was suspended by the commission following furor that greeted the proposal. However, confusion was generated as Senate committee on communications consolidated the decision during oversight visit to NCC headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday December 13, 2016. The unacceptable resolution from the Committee was perched on false imagination that NCC acted on national interest, even in spite of the current financial predicament having effect in pockets and purses of Nigeria citizens. With the yet addressed recession bedeviling the country, crippling and running key sources of prevalence down, there is compulsory need for slash of data price to curtail the situation. Therefore, NANS in its reaction, disagree with the decision in totality, calling on the parties that ganged up against suffering Nigerians to withdraw the proposal without further delays, or operation of telecom facilities in campuses across the country will be ceased indefinitely. Maintain status quo, improve services, we insists. A word is enough for the wise! Don't Test Our Might!!!! By Divinelove Udorji| December 01, 2016 The President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Aruna Kadiri has reiterated his position on NANS awards, as the award which is issued by the apex student body to only well deserving individuals who have made tremendous impacts on youths, students and the society at large had in the past years lost it salt. Comrade Kadiri who decried the way and manner at which the awards had been politicized in the past and issued to undeserving individuals gave the assurance of bringing back the sanity and prestige of NANS award. Findings had revealed that NANS award which was once an award held in the highest esteem and issued to only well deserving individuals in the society but unfortunately in previous years it was allowed to erode as NANS awards became politicized. In fact, some leadership of the association in the past had even resulted to exchanging the award for money and gifts, thereby denigrating the prestigious award to the bin. However while speaking to this reporter, Comrade Kadiri revealed that NANS award under his administration would take a totally new dimension. “NANS under me have stopped giving awards in bits. We are arranging it in a way that it will have the value and recognition that it deserves. We will pencil down their names and prior to the day it will be aired and will be on national dailies,” he said. “It will be once in a year where it will be nationally done. The question now is what has been his/her contribution to the development of NANS, youths and students,” Kadiri added. President Kadiri who has distinguished himself as NANS redeemer and who is poised at restoring the association' lost glory and integrity as the association is meant to serve as the voice of the voiceless on campus, regional and national matters and devoid of external control, further added that “it's not all about the money, integrity matters more to me”. •Divinelove Udorji, is a Mass Communication student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi

Yesterday being Tuesday November 29th, 2016, I led a delegation to the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) Maitama Abuja, where we held a meeting with the regulatory body to explain their reason(s) for the planned increment of tariff on data services by 200% in the country which will take effect starting December 1st. They ended up giving us flimsy excuses claiming they want to assist the telecommunication companies not to fold up. What an excuse! If the new tariff increment is allowed to take effect as directed by NCC' which is aimed at generating more revenue for the Federal Government at the expense of the already suffering Nigerian people, a 1.5 Gig which presently costs N1,000.00, will then go for N3,000.00, meaning an extra N2,000.00. This the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) under my watch will not accept considering all the economic hardships scourging the people in the country. The Nigerian students and youths represents 70% of the population that uses these data. Therefore if NCC and Telecommunication companies dare go ahead to implement the increment in Tariff we will do all it takes to resist it. In fact, we will go as far as destroying the telecommunication facilities in all our Campuses. NANS is totally against the planned increment of tariff on data services. In the interest of humanity, we call on President Buhari-led executive, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) and Telecommunication companies to rather consider reviewing the tariff downward to make internet services easily accessible, portable and available to all Nigerians, most especially students and youths who uses the internet for research and other purpose(s). We also call on the National Assembly to stop the executive arm of the federal government from this dastardly act against the Nigerian people. NANS wonder why any reasonable government would want to fix price for private companies against the interest of its citizens. The National leadership of NANS under President Aruna Kadiri, in solidarity with all well meaning Nigerians Say “No” To Planned Tariff Increment On Data Services and this is non-negotiable. Signed: Comr. Aruna Kadiri, NANS President November 30th, 2016

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly assent to the passage of the bill for the enactment of an act to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps. President of the apex students body, Comrade Aruna Kadiri of UniBen, made the appeal during a press briefing on Saturday November 26th in Benin, Edo State. The bill (SB. 173 and 183) which passed third and final reading in the 8th Senate on Thursday November 24th according to Kadiri if signed into law will contribute to bringing down Nigeria’s unemployment rate. “If the bill is assented by Mr President, the unemployment situation bedevilling the Nigerian youths will reduce as the bill will go a long way to adequately empower, develop and provide alternative employment for the Nigerian youth,” he said. Aruna explained that the Peace Corps will train and equip youths in Nigeria with knowledge for peace education, conflict mediation, intervention, reconciliation and confident building adding that they will be deploy to all tertiary institutions, secondary schools and primary schools to maintain law and order, curb drug abuse and cultism in schools. “It will increase the culture of peace among Nigerians, including the spirit of volunteerism, nationalism, patriotism, communicate service and nation' building,” he added.

The President, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comr. Aruna Kadiri, has reiterated his commitment to monitor all Students’ Union election with a view to ensuring transparency and fairness. It would be recall, Aruna in his desire to revamp unionism nationwide during the presidential campaign across campuses vowed to also ensure that school managements do not interfere in electoral processes which was a common practice. President Kadiri who was in the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria on Wednesday, 23rd of November 2016 for the inauguration of its Students Representative Council (SRC), stated that “NANS under his leadership will ensure elections are held without interference as at when due”. “We sleep safely at night because rough men stand ready to visit violence on those who would harm us”. -Winston Churchill On behalf of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and on my own behalf as President, I would like to extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Army on the untimely death of Lt. Col. Muhammad Abu Ali, and others who died in confrontation with suspected Boko Haram terrorists who attacked 119 Battalion, Nigerian Army location at Mallam Fatori on Friday, November 4, 2016 in a failed attempt to capture the town. I also extend my deepest and heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen heroes. NANS, the apex umbrella of Nigerian students both home and in abroad, stand with you and we will never put you down. Our compatriots died for what they believe, for Nigeria, for us. To our forcefully departed Heroes, rest in peace. Your blood will bring freedom, permanent peace and your killers, the real criminals will face justice when time comes. We love you very much because you have committed and sacrificed your lives for the liberation of our oppressed and suffering brothers and sisters in the North/East whom you went to safe and bring peace to them. We are extremely grateful for each and every one of the soldiers that died for this country as well as those that are still fighting. You are out there, fighting so that the rest of the country can live in peace and progress. NANS will not abandon you. We are standing with you. In addition to the ongoing efforts aimed at building a well-trained, efficient and very effective armed forces that meets our national security objectives, I call on the federal government to also make the welfare of our men and women in uniform a top priority. Our officers are some of the finest in Africa and among the best in the world, and as such, must be accorded the respect they deserve. Also, I call on the federal government to institute special honours for our men in uniform like Lt. Col. Muhammad Abu Ali, among others who lose their lives in active service. On no account must Nigeria abandon those who serve her loyally, and paid the supreme price. This honour is to ensure that their memories and service live with us and our Nation forever! For the families of our fallen heroes, especially the widows and children, as a means of showing gratitude for the sacrifice of their bread winner, I urge the federal government to take care of them until they can take care of themselves. Also the welfare of retired soldiers must never be taken for granted. Lastly and most importantly, a career in the Nigerian Army is not the place for the heartless. Our men and women in uniform are bold and brave. They are our pride and NANS will continue to appreciate and honour those who stand strong in defence of our country. I therefore call on our soldiers especially those on national assignment to eschew any behaviour that could tarnish their honour and dignity as commissioned officers. Your commitment and loyalty to the Nation and the Armed Forces must not only be unwavering, it must be outstandingly impeccable. Long live the Nigerian Army! May God bless our country Nigeria. Rest in peace our fallen heroes NANS is extremely grateful Comr. Aruna Kadiri, NANS President November 06, 2016

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has stated that the relocated secretariat will remain in Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo State, until the ongoing discussions over hike of School fees is concluded, which the association said must be in favour of the students. NANS, the apex umbrella of Nigerian students both home and in abroad, took this decision in view of what they described as “being taken for granted due to our peaceful nature” after the management of the school failed to honour a rescheduled meeting. According to the association president, Comr. Aruna Kadiri, “My Secretary General, Comr. Harrison Ogiemwonrie went ahead with a team of students to AAU and met no management staff”. He further described the meeting boycott as a “direct confrontation of NANS and a deliberate attempt to test our might”. “The management of AAU should be informed that we are coming in our numbers to the school on Monday to address the issues. Also, the relocated NANS secretariat remains in Ambrose Alli University until all our demands are granted,” he added. Recall on Friday October 14th, in pursuance of NANS charter for qualitative and affordable education for Nigerians following the unjustifiable hike of school fees, President Aruna Kadiri visited the school where he held a meeting with the school' management. However, it was until the temporary relocation of NANS secretariat to AAU last week that management succumbed to pressure. They agreed that while discussions were ongoing, the affected students (200l) are advised to suspend the payment of school fees for now, pending the final conclusion of discussions. AAU in the special release signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information/PRO, Mr Edward U. Aihevba, stated that, there was a plea by NANS that the school fees regime of the affected students be looked into. The Aruna Kadiri-led NANS is insisting that the “school fees should and must go back to Status Quo”. ... An Injury to one is an Injury to all! The time is Now! Following a meeting with officials of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma, Edo State, has advised the 200l students of the institution to suspend payment of school fees. NANS compelled the management to take this option while negotiation continues. AAU in a special release signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information/PRO, Mr Edward U. Aihevba, stated that, there was a plea by NANS that the school fees regime of the affected students be looked into. It would be recall, President Aruna Kadiri, in pursuance of NANS charter for qualitative and affordable education for Nigerians following the hike of school fees visited the school where he held a meeting with the management. Unfortunately, the over 5-hours meeting ended in a deadlock, as both parties stood their ground. NANS ably represented by President Kadiri insisted that the school fees should and must go back to STATUS QUO, while Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.A. Onimawo also insisted, “the fees will not be reduced”. The President who spoke on the urgent need to reduce the over 400% increment in school fees, after the meeting on Friday October 14th directed all affected students not to pay school fees until the ongoing discussion was concluded. Meanwhile, some aggrieved students took to street in a peaceful protest, also insisting that the school fees should and must go back to status quo. Regrettably, in their own right, they were intimidated, arrested, teargassed and threatened. Responding to this ugly development, President Kadiri, called on fellow students to join him as he relocate NANS secretariat to the school in a solidarity protest. As a committed leadership to the good of Nigerian students, Comr. Aruna Kadiri said, victimization of any student is unacceptable and will be resisted by his administration using every legal means available. “The right of every Nigerian student is a priceless jewel,” he added. On Tuesday November 1st, following NANS notice to protest, a meeting was rescheduled. At the meeting, management finally agreed that while discussions are ongoing, the affected students (200l) are advised to suspend the payment of school fees for now, pending the final conclusion of discussions. Victory For All!!! Though, we are not armed, but in our unity, we are “Unconquerable”. The School fees Should and Must Go Back To Status Quo. Thank you. Great Nigerian Students, Please, join me as I relocate NANS secretariat to Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Edo State, tomorrow Tuesday 1st November, 2016 on a peaceful solidarity protest for reduction of schoolfees. Our fellow students have been intimidated, arrested, teargassed and threatened with their studentship. This is unacceptable and will be resisted by my administration. Recall on Friday October 14th, in pursuance of NANS charter for qualitative and affordable education for Nigerians following the unjustifiable hike of schoolfees, I visited the school where I held a meeting with the school' management. In the meeting which lasted for almost 5-hours but ended in deadlock, I spoke on the urgent need to reduce the over 400% increment in schoolfees. Regrettably, the Vice Chancellor Professor Ignatius Onimawo, insisted, “the fees will not be reduced”. After the meeting, NANS under my leadership directed Nigerian students in AAU not to pay schoolfees until the ongoing discussion was concluded. In an effort to also build the confidence of Nigerian students in abroad after the recent reported unfortunate arrest of some students upon arrival at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, President Aruna Kadiri has visited the country. Some weeks ago according to our local media, over 50 Nigerian students were arrested in Turkey, allegedly on the order of the government. The detained Nigerians are mainly students of Fathi University, one of the 2,099 schools shut down by the Turkish government for links with Fethullah Gulen, the alleged mastermind of the failed July 15, 2016 coup in the country. NANS, the apex umbrella of Nigerian students both home and abroad following the incident condemned in totality the action of the Turkish government, and shut-down their Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria as they failed to release its detained members unconditionally. Comr. Kadiri who arrived Turkey on Thursday October 20th alongside other 2 contigents and a Nigerian journalist said the trip was a continuous struggle he led to Turkey Embassy in Abuja on the 6th of October, immediately after the inauguration of NANS national officials demanding clarification on the arrest of the affected Nigerian students. “The visit was also to build the confidence of our students over there in Turkey so I can be getting reports directly on issues affecting Nigerian students,” he added. Upon getting to Istanbul on the early hours of Thursday, they were taken round some of the schools were they met with managements of some of the universities and our Nigerian students respectively. Also, while in the country, they held series of meetings and were told by both management and our Nigerian students that after the failed coup in Turkey the Government decided to shut down fifteen (15) Universities suspected to be owned by the opposition group who masterminded the failed coup. The closure affected several nationalities including Nigerians schooling in Turkey. However, the Government has absolved all the students into various schools of their choice without any additional charges. All of these was confirmed by our students. Funny enough the story of the over 50 Nigerian students arrested is like a home video to most of them. They insisted that nothing of such ever happened. In fact, the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria confirmed that only four (4) post-graduate students (PhD) were arrested for questioning after which the Turkish government have decided to depot them. But upon NANS President intervention, who made it clear to both Ambassador Hakan Çakıl, and the host government that it will be a slap to his country if they were depoted, insisting that they should be released and allowed to resume their normal schooling. This they did immediately and as we speak, the affected students are back to school. Apart from all these, two students who were living in the apartment of the suspected coup plotters are still in detention but we are talking seriously with the Turkish government for their release and we can assure you that within a couple of days they will be released. There were other little challenges our students in Turkey complained about which were discussed with the different school managements and treated with immediate effect. Comr. Victory Ogolo, former NANS VP on External Affairs and presently Chairman advisory Council, was also in the NANS President' entourage. After the national assignment, they returned back to the country on Saturday 22nd of October. The NANS President, Comr. Aruna Kadiri of Uniben, being the 28th president of the association was elected in the rescheduled convention held between 1st-4th September 2016 in Old Parade Ground, Garki Abuja. According to today's publication in Daily Trust, the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) has expressed hope of mobilising all eligible graduates due for the 2016 Batch B orientation programme. In a statement signed by the Director, Public Relations Department of the scheme, Mrs Abosede Aderigbibe, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Suleman Kazaure, gave that indication during a meeting with the executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) when they visited him in Abuja. It would be recall, NANS President Aruna Kadiri last week visited the National Directorate Hqtr. where he met with the Director General and other top officials of the scheme concerning an earlier released circular informing management of schools of slash in number of prospective corp members to be mobilize due to “tight budgetary allocation”. The president who insisted on “Either All or None” demobilization, stated that “the implication therefore is that after graduation one might have to stay at home for at least five years considering the accumulated backlogs before been mobilized for NYSC. “Furthermore, it will also result to a situation whereby participation will be as a result of WHO KNOW MAN and how highly placed your father is in the society.” And also due to the increasing number of graduates every year both home and abroad, Comr. Kadiri said he will write to the National Assembly to increase the number of higher institution graduates for the scheme. Kazaure during the visit urged the association to be calm and to cooperate with the scheme in its efforts to resolve all issues relating to the exercise. According to him, all corps producing institutions had been requested to upload full list of their Senate approved prospective corps members to the NYSC portal. Working endlessly to achieve the charter of NANS for quality and affordable education in Nigeria, President Aruna Kadiri after his successful intervention in FCE Zaria' tuition scam met with the management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State. Comr. Kadiri in the meeting on Friday October 14th with the Vice Chancellor Professor Ignatius Onimawo which lasted for almost 5hours, spoke on the urgent need to reduce the over 400% increment in school fees. Also in attedance was the Dean Student Affairs, and other key lecturers of the institution. “The fees will not be reduced, the Vice Chancellor insisted in the meeting. It ended in deadlock as President Kadiri also stood his ground on behalf of Nigerian students, “it should and must go back to Status Quo”. NANS is therefore using this medium to ask our students in AAU not to pay school fees until the ongoing discussion is concluded. Lastly and very important, you should remain calm and law-abiding. Be rest assured, the new leadership of NANS is committed to the good of Nigerian student. We will keep you posted as events unfolds. Thank you. On October 13th the NANS Senate President, Oyejide Salam came under mild condemnation from fellow Students over the alleged conferred of award on Dr Jimoh Ibrahim (APC), a business mogul cum politician, a claim which he confidently debunked. Clarifying, Comr. Salam said, it wasn't actually an “award” rather a “Letter of Credence” based on his immense contributions to education such as Scholarship and the notable Multi-million naira Post College building he gave to OAU without being a public office holder. Adhering to the advise of Doug Larson when he warned that “instead of giving a politician the keys to the city, it might be better to change the locks”, Comr. Aruna Kadiri, who instructed some group of students to investigate what actually happened in the Staff Club Secretariat, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, when Comr. Salam paid the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Elujoba a courtesy call which the awardee was also in attendance had earlier warned his colleagues in the helm of NANS affairs that he won't take it kindly with anyone who does anything contrary to the interest of Nigerian students, which he said “is a priceless jewel”. Also, the information making rounds that President Kadiri was in OAU for the event is completely false and baseless. This concocted information is geared towards making the administration look bad. Meanwhile, Salam in a signed release stated clearly that “it got to our notice that propaganda has filtrated the student community that an award was given to Dr. Jimoh Ibrahim, we maintain our stance as a “student oriented” administration that no award was given and still remain committed to the student plight rather than dashing of awards to Nigerians like father Christmas. Individuals with sinister motives would have handed such to his P.A and fixed an appointment with Jimoh Ibrahim rather than publicly handing over the letter of credence to him in the presence of Nigerian Students.” It would be recall, Kadiri noted that despite the commendable efforts towards restoring the dignity of the Association and ensuring the good of Nigerian Students, NANS is still confronted with myriad of problems which often times are instigated from outside. He assured Nigerian students during the course of his campaign tagged “Redemption” across campuses that his administration will deploy every available instrument to ensure a good image for NANS” if elected. However, according to him, the association will continue to collaborate with government and individuals in achieving some of her objectives as long as such cooperation/ventures do not affect their corporate image or negatively influence her decision making. “Our immediate preoccupation will be that of image laundering. The need to guide our Association from the negative influence of Politicians will be paramount in my administration’s agenda. To ruminate on the level of devastation caused our Association by corrupt and ruthless politicians is to state the obvious. NANS under my watch will ensure that we return to the past where our views on national issues were respected and accepted with every modicum of seriousness,” he stated. The association which have being known from inception for honoring only deserving Nigerians, that in 1984 to 1985, Mr. Lanre Arogundade, who was the then NANS president bestowed the title of the “Senior Advocate of the Masses” on the late activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) for his massive contributions to the Nigerian students and humanity at large, unfortunately before now hijacked by “Area III Garden” Students has been donating all sort of awards to politicians in exchange for monetary grants. Lamenting on this decline of quality student representation in the country on October 2015 when the Tijani Usman Shehu-led NANS honored Buruji Kashamu, Senator representing Ogun-East senatorial district, as the “Golden Man of the Year”, Comr. Shettima Umar, the then President of the National Union of Borno State Students, NUBOSS ATBU Chapter and now NANS National Vice President, in a signed statement who called the act “shocking” has also noted that even the awardee cannot point out one single development he has inputs on the Nigerian Students and the educational system at large. “We want to state categorically that as bonafide students of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that the award was presented to the awardee without the interest and consultations of my students who are also shareholders in NANS,” he added. The expectation of Nigerian Students to see a vibrant and reformed NANS was high again following the emergence of a new leadership in the reschduled 28th convention in Old Parade Ground, Garki Abuja. And barely some weeks after taking oath of offices, the trust is already paying off. First, it was the inauguration of the national officials on campus. President Kadiri alongside other elected officials took oath in a well attended event held in the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada FCT. NANS is finally back to NANS after many years of struggle, students rejoiced. Secondly and to the surprise of many, immediately after taking oath, they were already in the battlefield. The just inaugurated leadership led other students to the Turkish Embassy in the capital city Abuja demanding for the unconditional release of its members who were arrested on order of Turkish government upon arrival in the country. Similarly, last week, President Kadiri was in Zaria to intervene on a lingering tuition fraud against the students of Federal College of Education Zaria, Kaduna State. In company of the zonal and axis leaders, he met with the management of the school before moving to the indicted bank, FBN PZ Zaria branch where they locked the main entrance until a satisfactory agreement was reached in the presence of the nation's security operative(s). The bank which had earlier denied completely any wrongdoing in the scam gave assurance to resolve the issue without further delay. Then lo and behold, NYSC following NANS intervention also promised to retract its directive on demobilization. The scheme had earlier in a circular informed the management of various tertiary institutions in the country of the slash in the number of prospective corp members for Batch B mobilization which according to them is due to “tight budgetary allocation”. For example, Unizik has been slashed from 2314 to 894, that's just like one third of the prospective members. Uniabuja not excluded can only mobilize 546 members, this we gathered is even less than the total number of graduates in three departments of the institution. Is NANS President against issuance of award to politicians? The answer is simple, No! But according to him, every awardee which must be deserving will be honour in an organized national programme which will be once in a year. “These days anybody can claim to be NANS EXCO go to one mad man's office award him just for a chicken feed. I am completely against such. Every award to any public office holder for instance must be deserving. And this will be done once in a year, like a national programme. Nigerian Students would be adequately involve. They will be the ultimate judge. That's when award will be respected,” he added. Lastly, I end with a piece from his campaign manifesto: “Our administration will be passionate about the plight of politically victimized students! Wherever they exist, we shall deploy all at our disposal in ensuring their reinstatement. Restoring their rights and liberties shall be one of our main policy thrust. All head of schools and relevant agencies will be informed of the new order immediately we assume office. “The victimization of students will be viewed be my Presidency as a direct confrontation of NANS and a deliberate attempt to test our might! For the avoidance of doubt, I will personally lead all such struggles unless it becomes absolutely impossible to do so.” God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria God bless the National Association of Nigerian Students Aluta continua! The President of Nigerian students, Comr. Aruna Kadiri has again met with the Director General of NSYC, Brigadier General Sule Zakari Kazaure over planned demobilization of prospective corp members. The National Directorate Hqtr. recently in a circular to various tertiary institutions notify the respective management of slash in number of graduants to be mobilize for the 1-year mandatory national service. This they attribute to lack of resources from the federal government. In response, the National Association of Nigerian Students insist of “either complete demobilization or none” in a signed press statement by its president, Comr. Aruna Kadiri. “The implication therefore is that after graduation one might have to stay at home for at least five years considering the accumulated backlogs before been mobilised for NYSC. Furthermore, it will also result to a situation whereby participation will be as a result of WHO KNOW MAN and how highly placed your father is in the society,” NANS stated. NANS who vowed to resist the slashing by every peaceful legal means appealed to the management of all tertiary institutions in the country to pend mobilisation to NYSC pending when the issue is fully resolved. Goodnews! Finally today, due to NANS stand that it is unacceptable the DG had to meet with the NANS president. President Kadiri has ordered that all qualified graduates should be mobilised for the scheme. The Director General during close-door meeting which is a follow-up of the meeting held last week has assured the President that the problem will be resolve. The attention of the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, have been drawn to the recent directive from the NYSC to slash the number of graduants from every tertiary institutions to be mobilised for the scheme by over 70%. This they claim is as a result of lack of resources. The development has caused a lot of confusion in our students community across the nation. The implication therefore is that after graduation one might have to stay at home for at least five years considering the accumulated backlogs before been mobilised for NYSC. Furthermore, it will also result to a situation whereby participation will be as a result of WHO NO MAN and how highly placed your father is in the society. NOTE! The budget for this financial year/the NYSC has long been passed and was extended to may 2017. After which, there was short fall of about fifty thousand graduants that was not captured. This the service applied for funding to the president and was approved and funded through a presidential special intervention fund. OUR STAND: 1. The National Association of Nigerian Students led by my able self Comrade Kadiri Aruna want to use this medium to state categorically that this is unacceptable and will be resisted by every peaceful legal means. 2. Let me also use this medium to ask the management of all tertiary institutions to pend mobilisation to NYSC pending when this issue is resolved. 3. The director general as a matter of urgency should retract that directive for it is against the growth and development of our teeming students and the Nigerian citizens. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria God bless the National Association of Nigerian Students. Aluta Continua! Victoria Acerta!! Comr. Kadiri Aruna NANS President October 9th, 2016

Being a comrading comrade of actions, immediately after he took oath of office as the 28th NANS President, Comr. Aruna Kadiri of UniBen alongside other leaders led some dogged Nigerian students to the Turkish Embassy demanding for the unconditional release of its members who were arrested and detained some days ago upon arrival at Ataturk International Airport in Istanbul, Turkey. According to reports, over 50 Nigerian students were arrested in Turkey, allegedly on the order of the government. The detained Nigerians are mainly students of Fathi University, one of the 2,099 schools shut down by the Turkish government for links with Fethullah Gulen, the alleged mastermind of the failed July 15, 2016 coup in the country. NANS is finally back to campus after many years of struggle, Nigerian students expressed their joy over the first of its kind inauguration of the National officials on campus which was held in the University of Abuja, Gwagwalada, FCT on Thursday October 6th, 2016. Before his victory at the poll, it is worthy to note that Comr. Aruna promised during his Redemption Campaign across Nigerian campuses to not only bring NANS-Back-To-Campus but will also make SUGs which he said must be democratically elected the fulcrum of his administration. “We will institutionalize a framework that will ensure smooth and speedy transition as this has been the bane of our Association at all Levels. Elections will be held as at when due. “NANS under my leadership will monitor all Students’ Union election with a view to ensuring transparency and fairness. We will ensure that school managements do not interfere in electoral processes as it is now the common practice. “My Presidency will ensure that all Campuses are adequately unionized. We will end Caretaker Students’ Unions anywhere they exist in our schools. Students’ Union Governments will form the fulcrum of our administration, hence our desire to revamp unionism nationwide,” he said. Fulfilling his earlier vow to lead Nigerian Students to the Turkish Embassy in Abuja if their members are not released unconditionally, the Uniben bred Comrade in a peaceful protest yesterday sent a strong message to Turkish High Commissioner to Nigeria, Hakan Cakil. Comr. Aruna warned on possible shutdown of the Embassy if their demand isn't met. “Turkey must not continue to toil with the lives of our students and be continually victimised and intimidated. We have over 50 of Nigerian students in Turkey that they claimed they are terrorists and locked in a room, after a failed coup. They are treating our students like animals and feel their is no one to speak for them,” he added. The new NANS President according to both foes and friends, despite being outspoken and a strong believer in what he think is right, he is also a listener and proactive with what he learn from those around me. Aruna over the years in the Students struggle has always campaigned passionately for the greater good of Nigerian students. In the bid to redeem the association lost glory and also, most importantly to guide NANS against “image laundering”, Comr. Aruna reiterated his administration's commitment to deploy every available instrument to ensure a good image for NANS. “NANS under my watch will ensure that we return to the past where our views on national issues were respected and accepted with every modicum of seriousness. We will continue deploy every available instrument to ensure a good image for NANS. “However, let it be known that our approach will not change our core traditions as these are ‘genetic’ and incorruptible. It is instructive to state that NANS will continue to collaborate with government and individuals in achieving some of her objectives as long as such cooperation/ventures do not affect our corporate image or negatively influence our decision making,” he said. It Is No Longer BUSINESS As USUAL. NANS Isn't For Sale At Any Price. The right of every Nigerian Student is a priceless jewel. God bless Nigerian students. Aluta Continua! Victoria Acerta!!
