PoliticsMagu Unqualified To Head Efcc- Sen. Dino Melaye by akpanoka(op): 2:41pm On May 26, 2017
The Senator Representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye has again taken a swipe at the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, describing him as unqualified to head the anti-graft agency. Senator Melaye made the remarks today on "Focus Nigeria" a live television programme aired on African Independent Television (AIT).

The Senator who was reacting to the decision of the Senate to reject the nomination of Magu made it clear that apart from credible intelligence report by the Department of State Services (DSS) which confirmed Magu as a liability to the agency, the Acting EFCC Chairman's performance during the screening exercise before the Senate was embarrassing, appalling and projected him as incompetent to hold the office.

According to the Senator, "Magu was not just disqualified on the basis of the DSS report alone. He came for a job interview and failed woefully before the Senate". The Senator also berated the EFCC for engaging in media trial of suspected corrupt politicians instead of carrying out painstaking investigation of corruption allegations in order to gather enough admissible evidence that could secure conviction in court. He submitted that as long as the EFCC is dominated by policemen, it would never evolve as a top-rank anti-graft agency.

The attack on MAGU has been on the rise lately. During the launch of Senator Dino Melaye’s book, “Antidotes for Corruption” Senate President Bukola Saraki accused the EFCC of engaging in public spectacle rather than the substance of corruption matters. He noted that professional anti-graft agencies the world over are usually insulated from political interference while carrying out thorough investigation. He added that with the present approach by the EFCC to the war on corruption Nigeria was still far from that ideal.

Wonderingg why this thread hasnt made the front page. These are issues that should trigger political discussion, especially as we prepare for 2019. with issues like this, nigerians would ask themselves what kind of leaders they want? What legacy the leader should leave? have the ones they elected delivered? and so on.

sadly, threads that make front page are pics of nairalanders with snakes, Davido in his new house, Dbanj expecting new baby, Wizkid smokes skunk, etc. lol

PoliticsGov. Nyesom Wike And Kenny Blaq Rumoured To Be Cultists (pix) by akpanoka(op):
Pictures of the Governor of River State, Nyesom Wike and Nigerian talented Comedian, Kenny Blaq "clawing" after the latter's performance at an event to commemorate ''Rivers at 50'' have emerged online. Many commentators on twitter attributed the handshake to a special greeting for members of the same cult group.

Some even claimed that the duo maybe members of Ogboni Confraternity. The controversial picture surfaced following Gov. Wike's allegation that Rotimi Amaechi had inaugurated cult groups in Port Harcourt, with members of the group being given N500, 000 each as incentive.

The Governor further claimed that the aim of such cult group may not be unconnected with the 2019 general elections in the state. He lamented that the move would hamper the amnesty granted to criminal elements and cult members by the state government.

Meanwhile, Rotimi Amaechi, the Minister of Transport has denied being a member of any cult group, describing Gov. Wike as suffering from "gubernatorial madness".

The Ogoja- Calabar Road is arguably the worst in Africa. The federal road which links Benue state, Akwa Ibom and Cameroon also leads to the popular Obudu cattle ranch depending ion where you are coming from. Information gathered indicates that the road was constructed in the 70s by miktary govt.

However, the road is currently in a very bad shape with potholes covering several hundred kilometers. A journey from ogoja to calabar which ordinarily takes 3- 4 hours now takes 7hours on the minimum with attendant road accidents and deaths of Nigerians.
Cross River is an agrarian state. It means farmers ought to transport produce to market. D road has adversely affected them. Crops have perished due to longs hours spent on road, hired trucks breakdown making them incure more expenses with implications for prices of food product, and accidents also occur frequently.

I beg d MODs to draw the attention of government to this development as part of their corporate social responsibilities. Am sure those who ply the road would be happy that nairaland understands their plight.

God bless Nigeria, God bless Nairaland

Jonathan Remains Likely Winner of Elections – Campbell 0
BY JUMOKE ON FEBRUARY 15, 2015 GOVERNMENT

Former United States’ ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell has said that President Goodluck Jonathan remains the likely winner of the March 28 polls despite the strength of the opposition.

Campbell made this declaration in a new report published and released by the US’ Council on Foreign Relations.

The report titled Nigeria’s 2015 Presidential Election: Contingency Planning Memorandum Update,’ read “The APC is stronger than its predecessors (Action Congress of Nigeria and Congress for Progressives Change) and reflects a splintering of the political classes.

“The government’s inability to defeat Boko Haram, the economic hardships brought on by falling oil prices, and a growing public perception that the Jonathan administration is weak has fuelled support for the All Progressives Congress. Though the APC’s voter base is in the North, it enjoys support all over the country, unlike the opposition in 2011.

“It is uncertain whether any provisions will be made for voters in the three northern states placed under a state of emergency because of Boko Haram, as well as the estimated one million people displaced by the insurgency.

“These displaced voters would likely support Buhari and the APC; their exclusion would benefit Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Thus despite the strength of the opposition, Jonathan remains the likely—but not certain—winner.”

PoliticsRe: Should Buhari Be Stripped Of His Army Rank? by akpanoka: 6:46pm On Jan 20, 2015
This can only happen in Nigeria. A man was enlisted based on. A mere letter from a Principal who probably was an uncle, brother or family friend. And the Man couldn't update his papers upon enlistment and shamelessly grew to become a General based on a letter of recommendation.

Am sure this is the change they preach.

In a sane society, those following and projecting Buhari would have hidden their faces in shame

PoliticsOnly Chadian Government Can Resolve Boko Haram Insurgency – Modu Sheriff by akpanoka(op): 12:39pm On Dec 21, 2014
Former Borno State governor, Ali Modu Sheriff, has shed more light on the Boko Haram militancy currently plaguing some parts of the country, stressing that only the neighbouring Republic of Chad could help solve the menace.

The ex-governor accused of being a sponsor of the terrorist sect while being interviewed on BBC Hausa Service programme (Gane Mini Hanya) on Saturday and monitored in Abuja, denied allegations that Boko Haram started during his tenure as governor between 2003 and 2011, saying the radical islamist sect actually started in Yobe State in 1992.

Sheriff, who said he was passionate about restoring peace to Borno, maintained that his resolve to find a lasting solution to insurgency in the region has seen him holding talks with the Chadian government.

The governor, who would not say how Chad could possibly help in resolving the crisis, noted that as one of the few politicians to have benefitted greatly from the kindness of Borno State, he is doing whatever it is to help solve the insurgency.

His words, “Nothing preoccupies my mind in Nigeria presently like the return of peace in Borno. When Borno State was peaceful, there was no place I cherished to stay in the world like Maiduguri. I, my friends, my confidants, my parents and all the schools I attended are in Maiduguri.

“Therefore, I am more concerned than anybody in this country, because what Borno State did for me has not been done to any other indigene. You know, in Borno State, a governor has never been re-elected apart from me; in Borno State, no senator has ever been elected thrice apart from me. So, Borno people have done everything for me, and there is no one in this world that I know other than Chad, which I think could help Borno,” he posited.

Don’t vote for Buhari, he will bring back dictatorship – Mu’azu begs Nigerians
Restating that claims of him being behind Boko Haram remains a frame up, Sheriff said: “They defamed my character, and when they started it, I once told journalists that it was plotted in Maiduguri. We know the plotters, their motives, and that by the grace of God, the truth will prevail; and now, the arrested impostors have said it all to the world.”
