The House of Representatives on Wednesday summoned the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and 19 other oil and gas companies operating in Nigeria over the $17bn worth of the country’s crude oil said to have been stolen through undeclared exports between 2011 and 2014.

An ad hoc committee set up by the House to investigate the theft was inaugurated at the National Assembly on Wednesday by the Speaker, Mr. Yakubu Dogara.
He was represented by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Yussuff Lasun.
The committee, which is chaired by a member of the All Progressives Congress from Adamawa State, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas, said “over 57million barrels of Nigeria’s crude were illegally exported and sold in the USA” alone within the period under review.

Speaking at the inauguration, Namdas stated, “The estimated revenue loss by the government of Nigeria is around $12.7bn at an exchange rate of N196 to US$1.

“This translates to N2tn…If all revenues from crude oil exports lost due to the activities of those engaged in illegal export/sale are recovered, it will go a long way to support the developmental goals of the government of Nigeria.”
The development confirmed an exclusive story by The PUNCH on Friday last week that the committee was set to probe 20 firms and “colluding” Federal Government’s agencies over the oil theft.

Besides the $12.7bn traced to the US, the committee is in possession of records indicating that “over $3bn worth of crude was shipped to China and another $839,522,600 worth of crude taken to Norway.”

Among the firms the committee summoned along with the NNPC were Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited; Shell Western Supply and Trading; Televeras Petroleum Trading; Chevron Nigeria Limited; Shell US Trading Company; ExxonMobil Nigeria; Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited; Nigeria Agip Oil Company Limited; and Duke Oil Company Limited.

Shortly after reading Dogara’s inaugural speech, Lasun said that Nigeria had been short-changed over the years by “enemies,” who stole its oil resources.
Lasun observed that previous attempts by the National Assembly to look into the matter ended up being frustrated, but expressed the hope that this time round, there would be a conclusive investigation.

Lasun added, “In the last 58 years, nothing has changed in favour of the country.
“In all the oil producing countries of the world, Memorandum of Understanding have limited timeline for execution.
“It is only in Nigeria that our oil wells are never returned to us. After 25 to 30 years, we are to retrieve them, but it doesn’t happen that way.
“The MoUs are implemented in the case of Nigeria until the wells are dry.

“There are about 5,000 oil vessels leaving Nigeria every year. No Nigerian is involved in the shipment in the last 58 years.

“These are issues that we must seriously address as a country.”

You don't need to fund any account. Here is how to go about it. Go and open paypal account (Nigerian Paypal) and link it to your savings bank account through your ATM/Master card. Thereafter, order for any service of your choice with the paypal you opened earlier and linked to your bank account and the amount you paid for the service ll be deducted from your bank account.

Thanks for this info. but how do I go about opening the Nigeria PayPal account. All, what will be the rate.

Good evening all
