PoliticsIjaws Flee Lagos And Ogun For Fear Of ROPC Attack by alade112(op): 2:26am On Aug 01, 2016
YENAGOA —IJAWS resident in Lagos and Ogun states started relocating from the two states, weekend, to the South-South for fear of attack following the expiration of the ultimatum issued to Ijaws in the states by the Reformed Odua Peoples Congress, ROPC.

Also, many indigenes of Kaiama in Kolokuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, country home of Ijaw hero, late Major Adaka Boro, have deserted the community over fears that the military may attack the community, following the threat by a militant group, Adaka Boro Avengers, ABA, to declare a Republic of Niger Delta today.

Spokesperson of the Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Eric Omare, who confirmed the developments, said: At as Sunday morning (yesterday), information at our disposal indicates that some Ijaw people resident in Lagos and Ogun states, for fear of attack, are already relocating from their places of residence to the South-South.”

He said that there was apprehension among Ijaws in the South-West over the expiration of the ultimatum issued by ROPC, because of attacks by unknown gunmen in parts of Lagos and Ogun states.

The IYC, however, called on ROPC members and the leadership of the Yoruba nation to allow security agents to do their constitutional duty of apprehending criminals responsible for the Ogun and Lagos attacks.
On the tense situation at Kaiama, Omare said: “We call on residents of Kaiama town to be calm and go about their normal activities. There is no plan by the Ijaw people to declare a republic and the threat by Adaka Boro Avengers should be disregarded.

“We wish to warn groups and individuals not to further expose Ijaw and Niger Delta communities to unnecessary tension and danger. They should not abuse modern means of information technology to the detriment of our communities by issuing unnecessary threats and ultimatums.

“We call on security agencies to stop forthwith the unnecessary threats and attacks on Ijaw and other Niger Delta communities because of threats by faceless groups. They should check issues of security with the leadership of Ijaw nation instead of threatening or attacking innocent communities and people,” he added.

ELDERS and Leaders of Thoughts of Ijaw ethnic nationality in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria, weekend, warned Ijaw militants against their vow to declare a Republic of Niger-Delta, saying that what Ijaw nation wants is true federalism.
Ijaw leaders at a consultative meeting in Warri, Delta State, hosted by Ijaw national leader, Chief Edwin Clark, said: “The Elders and Leaders of Thought of the Ijaw nation call for the immediate restructuring of the Nigerian nation along the lines of peaceful federalism, and noticed that this is the panacea for the sustainable development of Nigeria.”
Bayelsa state governor, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson, Deputy Governor of Delta state, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, former Deputy Governor of Rivers State, Sir Gabriel Toby, former Minister of Culture, Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas and ex-Minister of Police Affairs, Alaowei Brodrick Bozimo attended the meeting.

PoliticsAtiku Abubakar Lends Support For Restructuring Of Nigeria by alade112(op): 8:22pm On Jul 30, 2016
The former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, is in support of the restructuring of Nigeria along federating units.
He stated that Nigeria is not working as it should because the centre has more powers than the federating states.
The former V.P said that a restructuring would foster national unity and integration, and also lay to rest the continuous agitation for resource control and creation of more states by different geo-political zones.
He made the remark in Kaduna State during the memorial conference for late General Hassan Usman Katsina.
Speaking on the topic, “Restructuring Nigeria For Greater National Integration and Democratic Stability”, Atiku said that there is the need to restructure the nation to make it stronger and more united.
According to him, while Nigeria must remain a united country, the unity which most citizens desire should never be taken for granted or taken as evidence that Nigerians are contented with the current structure of the federation.
The conference which had the theme: ‘Challenges of National Integration and the Survival of Democracy in Nigeria’, gathered dignitaries who came to celebrate the former military governor of the defunct Northern region, General Hassan Katsina.
Atiku also argued that the current presidential system of governance has thrown up so many issues in the polity such as struggle for power rotation at the centre, and overbearing control of resources by the federal government with limited resources going to the states and local governments.
The former Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Professor Ango Abdullahi, cautioned the agitators for control of oil deposits in the Niger Delta region to have a rethink.
He argued that it was the proceeds from the North that was used in developing the country before the advent of oil.
He also stated that Nigeria is divisible if the various political zones fail to work collectively as one, stressing that the north is not scared of separating from the rest of the country.
President Muhammadu Buhari who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Abdulrahaman Danbazau, said that the time to achieve national unity was now, considering the numerous security and economic challenges confronting the nation.
He also stated that good governance remains the key for the sustenance of national integration, adding that the federal government under his leadership is making effort to enthrone political stability and protect the lives and property of every citizen.

Oluwabusobomi:
Buhari has really polarised this country through his actions and inactions

The worst part of it is that no matter what decision he made, the once vocal region (wasted region) will always support him

You can not conspire to pull down the two regions (SS & SE) that the so called Nigeria feeds on and expect them to keep mute and look on... only the wasted region does that. Awo's imprisonment and June 12 is a good example. They will rather die in silence!
huh Can't you just make your comment without involving SWhuh D man speaking up is from SE ba? Your hero Foyose is from SS sheahuh Just bcoz buhari won SW doesn't mean everybody in the region supports himhuh By d way SW isn't responsible for your misfortuneshuh
