PoliticsNigeria Popular History In The 1920s We Don't Know by Alchemy528(op): 6:21pm On Aug 14, 2023
In the 1920s, Nigeria was under British colonial rule. The country was divided into different regions, each with its own administration. The Nigerian nationalist movement began to gain momentum during this time, with individuals like Herbert Macaulay advocating for greater Nigerian autonomy and representation.

In 1920, the first legislative council was introduced in Lagos, allowing for limited representation of Nigerians in the colonial administration. However, this representation was heavily skewed in favor of the British.

The 1920s also saw the emergence of trade unions and labor movements, as workers began to demand better working conditions and wages. This period laid the foundation for later struggles for independence and self-governance that eventually culminated in Nigeria gaining independence from Britain in 1960.
