CIVICILAB ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF THE ABUJA TECH FRIDAY HACKATHON

Civic Innovation Lab in collaboration with Art Tech District announced the winners of the maiden edition of the Abuja Tech Friday. Participants were tasked to create interactive solutions for Museum tours.
 
Before the weekend was in full swing, all roads led to the Discovery Museum for the unfolding of what was about to be the most disruptive competition the space had ever seen.
 
Using immersive technologies (augmented reality and virtual reality) to solve communication problems, as it relates to history, with focus on artifacts and museums, these groups of innovators gathered to offer various tech solutions with hopes of emerging winners.
Some of the groups and their tech solutions include:
●      Opinok- Their presentation was centered around the use of VR tech for locations, which was designed to provide details of products and artifacts through scans.
 
●      Air space- This group’s design was coded to aid the identification of artifacts for museum visitors as well as information about art and cultural things.
 
●      Memphis- This group consisted of web experts, an animator, a creative director and a writer. Their focus was on a 3-dimensional solution, on how art pieces can be enjoyed as well as how to monetize these artifacts.
 
●      Team Alpha- Who featured AR and VR solutions on how to run the museum and other interactive solutions using technology. These great minds successfully provided information which seem to have the capacity to stand the test of time and proffer communication solutions for not just museums but organizations looking to stay relevant in this world order and the current system of things.
●      Team X-rays -  Using QR codes, taught that we could talk about the history of the artifacts. This QR code design provided live information about onsite works of art. A live demonstration showed how history could be told without contact and through the use of voice overs which come in different languages.
 
●      Indigenous Lab- As their name implies were proud lovers of culture whose solution enabled uploads, updates, and registration processes; a full system in one. Their solution leverages on providing traction and no-contact experiences which enables navigation in, around and out of the museum-freely, truly built for times like this. They also demonstrated how museums can become the go-to for teaching kids history and empowering institutions. The fact that these things can be achieved using web links and not an application was another factor that distinguished this team of two.
 
●      Team Percept- Percept’s solution was concerned with population control and user experience as their presentation was centered on decongestion and easy access to information about art works, and artifacts in the museum. Providing camera tracking solutions to aid recognition of artifacts. They created communication solutions that bridges the gap between museum visitors and the art, giving them a guide in their pocket and the opportunities to explore the various artifacts in different dimensions.

-Presentation skills
-Business mindedness of their solutions
-Uniqueness and level of thought that went into their solution pitch,
They were able to come to an agreement as it relates to selecting a winner of this dynamic interactive-tech competition, as they proceed to continue working with the team to implement their great ideas.
 
-Urban development with his outstanding solution emerged 2nd runner up with the cash prize of N200,000.00 (Two hundred thousand naira only) . This team of one impressed the judges with his confident presentation and his understanding of the disruptive nature of technology and how it can be used.
 
-Memphis with N300,000.00 (Three Hundred Thousand Naira) came in 2nd place.  This team of 4 could not believe it "we came to eat small chops and go home" the team leader exclaimed as the room rejoiced with them and their super lucrative tech innovation.
Applause and tears filled the room as Indigenous lab emerged winner with the first prize of 500,000.00(Five Hundred Thousand Naira). This team of two impressed the judges and ticked all the criteria boxes with their out of the box tech solution.

A digital museum has posed to be of high relevance in these times, important on the list of things to have at our disposal in Nigeria; not just because of the way the world is operating, but also because of where we are going as a people in this 4th industrial revolution.
The art tech district through this monthly event, is bringing people together, giving opportunities for networks to grow in the creative space and expand through various industries, ranging from tech, art, and creative fields. Participants of the Abuja Tech Friday got a chance to tour the Discovery Museum, powered by Civic Innovation Lab, and they gave constructive feedback about the facility.
Abuja tech Friday was fueled by the Art Tech District and Civic Innovation lab. This pilot edition was a success which promises to keep getting better, expanding in such ways that accommodates more creative industries and various sectors, including but not limited to art, technology, agriculture, security, power and so much more.

According to information the disposal of AbujaPress, it has been gathered that a former Abuja-based ex-beauty queen and ex-Queen of Nollywood FCT, Mirable has been Kidnapped. The young vibrant model was said to be abducted by unknown persons on May 4 around 8:00pm at Dunamis Junction, Bwari Abuja.

Ms World UN launches pageantry to advance SDGs, humanitarianism

Ms World United Nations, Queen Hadassah Allaputa, has launched a new family pageant aimed at improving humanitarian services and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The pageant launched in Abuja and tagged ‘United Nation’s Pageants Nigeria’ will draw participants from the six geo-political zones to jostle for eight titles.

Briefing newsmen at the launch of the pageant, Allaputa said that the pageant was different from the regular ones and would focus more on training and development of participants for the betterment of their communities.

The beauty queen said that instead of having only one winner who would fade out at the end of her one-year reign, the new pageant would have eight winners who would hold their titles and perform their roles for life.

“Today is the official launch of the United Nation’s Pageants Nigeria, the biggest family pageants, the biggest ever in Nigeria because of its size and the number of pageants under it.

“We would be having eight categories of contestants from different age groups and genders; this complete family pageant will have contestants for eight titles.

“They will be trained, equipped and empowered to become kings and queens, princes and princesses of the United Nations Pageant,” she said.

Allaputa said that successful contestants would serve as role models and ambassadors, carrying out particular SDGs.

“Apart from its size, one thing that makes this truly unique is that it is aimed at empowering Nigerians across different geo-political zones.

“That is why our tag line is Uniting Nigeria through pageantry.

“All contestants will be trained to creatively function in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

“They will be taught peace and conflict resolution, etiquette and image branding, humanitarian services as well as persuasive communication and effective leadership skills.”

The beauty queen, who is also the Founder, Queen Hadassah Legendry, said that winners who would become part of the UN Royal Family and must acquire the skills to be part of the family.

She said that the skills would be taught to all participants and they would be expected to go back to their communities to implement tasks to improve the lives of those in the communities.

“I want to change the narrative and educate both participants and Nigerians that beauty pageantry is more than a hobby or a show of beauty.

“This is a life-time call to service, winners will be reoriented to see pageantry as an act of service that they will take seriously for life.

“Usually, most winners complete their reign and they are forgotten and nobody remembers them as kings or queens, but this time, they will be groomed to be legends,” she said.

She said that winners would continue to channel their works toward community services, protecting the environment and advancing the development of their motherland.

According to Allaputa, enrolment has already begun and interested participants urged to visit the website www.unitednationspageantsnigeria.org.

“Registration starts immediately and I am inviting all Nigerians to be part of this historic event,” she said.

A Nigerian top real estate company, Domak Group has launched a special shelter scheme exclusively meant for the youths and Students in Nigeria.

The programme with tag; “Nigerian Students/Youths Land and Housing Investment Scheme” that was unveiled to the public on April 27, 2021 in Abuja, the Federal capital is an initiative of Domak Shelter Limited in collaboration with the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS).

According to the firm, the essence of this project is aimed to empower Nigerian youths especially students, to secure a blissful future and better their lives after school and also, to engage them positively so as to shun moral vices and criminality.

Speaking at the event, Chairman, Domak Group, Ambassador Kingsley Azonobi stated that the project, in all understanding must be seen as one that will play a pivotal role in Nigerian youth transformation initiative.

He also noted that, given that students in the country are not adequately empowered to face the current global economic situation; that a project like this is very timely to strengthened their after school expectations in terms of shelter acquisition and independence.

“Today’s occasion marks the fulfillment of a burning desire that was birthed and conceived over a decade ago. This is an initiative that is created by our company, Domak Shelter Limited in partnership with the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) under the leadership of Comrade Benedict Olalere.

“The Nigerian Students/Youth Land and Housing Investment Scheme is a project that is aimed at empowering the Nigerian student and youths in general to enable them secure their future. While stressing the need for such timely intervention, he lamented that Nigerian students study under strenuous conditions while in school, and having garnered the basic qualifications, still face some uncertainties as a result of jobs that are not readily available.

“Going by verifiable records, Nigeria churns out about 1.5 million graduates every year from all the tertiary institutions we have in the country. ­­­ More often than not, these young people pass through very horrible experiences during their period in scho­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­ol. At the end of paying such huge sacrifice, they are only armed with certificates that may not translate to better future if it is not used.

“However, the question that begs for answer is “does the government has a plan to create an enabling environment where these young people can build and pursue their dreams in life?”

Azonobi also lamented that it is painful to see brilliant Nigerian youths waste their talents in menial activities after school, adding that worse still, is that the youths that constitute about 70 percent of the population do not have a strong voice in the nation’s governance, making them vulnerable to crime as a way of survival.­­­­­­­­­­

“It is the effects of youth unemployment and the loss of identity in the machinery of governance and administration in Nigeria that has ­­­­­­­­­­­increased crime rate in the country. I believe that this project will provide the Nigerian students or youth the platform to secure future after their academic life. With regards to having global experience and influence to attract meaningful investment and empowerment to Anambra State, Dr Godwin Maduka has declared his intention to take charge.

Maduka who is seeking a chance to be given PDP ticket and be elected as governor in Anambra governorship election in November, 2021 said,
