Celebrations As Tagwaye Foundation Launched, Targets Education Empowerment For Orphans, Less Privileged Persons

The most anticipated Launch and Fund Raising Ceremony of Tagwaye Foundation has been held in Abuja over the weekend, recording the presence of notable personalities, Representatives from several public and private institutions within Nigeria and from across Africa. The ceremony was held on the 27th of February 2021 at Banquet Hall, NAF Conference Center, Abuja.

According to AbujaPress, Tagwaye Foundation was launched amidst massive celebrations, as it provides educational opportunities for out of school and in school children, skill acquisition for youth, Empowerment for widows,Orphans and less privileged persons across Nigeria.
The event of the launch and fundraising of Tagwaye Foundation witnessed a panel session for Keynote Speakers and Panelists, which includes Dibiamaka, Habibah Shehu, Jalima Onyekehi, Dr. Ahmed Adamu, Madeleine Winkler, Dr. Henry Dumbiri, Rukayya Iyayi, amongst other notable Personalities.

The double session occasion recorded articulated and educative discussions as well as extensive deliberations on notable topics, cutting across Child Education (What must be done), Education; Restructuring Education in Rural Areas and Cost of illiteracy on Nigeria. Other Symposium discussions were also held during the first session.

The official, colourful and amazing launch of Tagwaye Foundation followed after the panel session. While making his Official address at the event, MC Tagwaye popularly known as Mr President passionately buttressed on the need to support and lift Nigerians from poverty especially the Orphans, less Privileged Persons and widows. HOW 'NKEREHI WOMEN' PROTESTED AGAINST THE LAW

The right to protest is a constitutionally guaranteed right in Nigeria as enshrined in Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution. It is essential to our democracy, giving voice to those with no platform or privilege. It is one of the powers that people can exercise beyond voting in an election. Democracy thrives on deliberating, arguing and dissent. However, like every other human right, the right to protest or freedom of Assembly is not absolute. It has its limitations and when the bounds of the law is breached, it can be said to be illegal.

Some women who gathered under the banner of "Nkerehi women" embarked on an illegal protest to register their displeasure on the name change of the community to Umuchukwu. To drive home my point, there is a need to provide a background information.

The former President General of the community, due to popular demand and in order to avoid controversies and unnecessary bickering that wanted to tear down the peace of the community, applied to the then Government of Anambra State led by Mr Peter Obi for a referendum on the name change. When Government of the day moved to honour the demands of the people, it gave rise to a suit brought by Barr Basil Igwike and others from the community challenging the actions of the government. These parties approached a High Court sitting in Ekwulobia and sought a restraining order against the respondents, including the representative of Anambra State Government Mr Dubem Obaze (the then Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy and town union matters) The lower court threw out their application for lacking in merit.

Dissatisfied with the decision of the lower court, they appealed to the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu seeking to upturn the decision of the lower court. The Court of Appeal in Suit No CA/E/162/08 upheld the decision of the lower court stating that the first respondent (Mr Dubem Obaze)as the representative of the executive arm of the Anambra State Government has the authority to conduct referendum in Nkerehi after which the outcome would be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for necessary action.

The State Government has since gone ahead in obedience to the pronouncements of the learned Justices of the Court of Appeal to conduct a referendum on the name change devoid of manipulation or deceit and majority voted for Umuchukwu. The State, acting in accordance with the wishes of the community has through the instrumentality of the Anambra State House of Assembly, gazzetted the name change, documenting it in Anambra State of Nigeria official gazzette ISSN 0331-1880. Awka - 6th March, 2008, Vol. 18. Currently, there is no stay of execution on the judgement of the court.

The judiciary as an institution is the final arbiter of the limits of the rights and duties of the rulers and the ruled. Upholding and obeying a judgement of the court is a sacred obligation which the law expects of every party before it. Failure to do so amounts to a direct insult or resisting the powers of the Judges. The protest embarked on by those women is contemptuous of the court. Contempt of court is an act calculated to prejudice the course of Justice and or likely to erode the dignity of the court either BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER proceedings.

The Nigerian jurisprudence is replete with cases where the courts frowned at such attitudes by litigants. It affects the dignity of the courts and the administration of Justice. It embarrasses and desecrates the sacred honour and integrity of the court and the judicial process. If such actions are countenanced and left unchecked, it will create an odious precedent which every party can utilize to interfere with and or jeopardize the powers of the courts. That is a perfect recipe for anarchy, uncertainty and confusion in the society. This is not and will never be the intention of our laws. The Court of Appeal has made pronouncements on this matter. The State Government under Mr Peter Obi has gone ahead to gazette it. Until the Supreme Court upturns this judgement, the Court of Appeal pronouncement stands and must be obeyed.

The State Government should be mindful of entertaining frivolous grievances from parties who hide under the banner of dissent to sow discord for their selfish political ends. Currently, a lot of town unions in Anambra State are engulfed in crisis and there can be no development without peace. The role of the government should be conciliatory instead of stoking tensions. The traditional institutions are over politicised and for a people with republican worldview, the traditional institutions will lose their relevance if this trajectory continues.

Borrowing the words of the author of the Igbo Bible Chinua Achebe, it is morning yet on creation day. Someone who destroys his bed will definitely sleep on the floor. May the rule of law prevail, for the sake of us all.

Few days ago, the Nigeria Police from Force Headquarters has paid an inspection visit to the recent internationally built standard, multifunctional Garment Factory, for the production and manufacturing of para-military garments in Portharcourt, Rivers State. The inspection exercise was led by CP Olatunji Akingbola and other Personnels of the Nigeria Police.

The delegation was received by the CEO of Jimco Global Concept Limited, Hon. Jim OKolo, a former Member of the Federal House of Representatives and CEO of Jimez Petroleum Resources Limited. Hon. Jim took them around the well-spaced factory with its machineries, technology and human resources of the garment factory.

The CP Olatunji Akingbola (Police Quarter Master General) was accompanied by Mr. Charles Kelly, as they expressed commendations at the standard multifunctional capacity of the Garment Factory established by Jimco Global Concept to build world-class Military Uniforms and wares.

Few months ago the federal Road safety corps.also visited the same facility and appreciated Jimco Global limited for building such a standard factory for the production of of military garments and ware. Ndigbo Youth Parliament Condemns The Aerial Bombardments In Orlu By Military, Expresses Disappointment In South East Governors

It is with highest displeasure that we, the Parliamentarians of Ndigbo Youth Parliament, condemn the aerial bombardments that took place in Orlu communities in Imo state.

On Thursday, a video of the aerial bombardments by the Military fighter jets took over the social media. Aside the videos from the eyewitness sent to us, we received calls of tensions and anxieties from the citizens of the communities in Orlu where the aerial bombardments took place.

Ndigbo Youth Parliament dares to say that such a military act was "a joke taken too far". How on earth can there be aerial bombardments by the military jets in a zone that is not bedevilled by terrorism nor banditry whereas the zones that have witnessed incessant kidnappings, cattle rustling, banditry and the likes, are spared of such bombardments? Is the military not aware of the recent kidnappings in Niger state and other parts of the Northern region? Why not deploy those fighter jets to all the forests and hideouts of all these bandits and kidnappers operating freely in the North? How do we explain such an "irrational decision" of the military to our teeming Youths who are already suffering from "a mindset that Southeast region is brazenly hated"?

We wish to ask the Nigerian Military and the Federal government; was that aerial bombardment necessary? Was it the best way to handle the situation at hand? What impression does that create in the minds of the teeming Youths of Southeast? Does it not go a long way to connote the already "perjured conception that the Southeast is being treated as a second class zone"?

Ndigbo Youth Parliament has been on a cause of building strong relationships between the Youths of the Southeast and those of other ethnic nationalities just to uphold the "sacrosanct dictum of One Nigeria". Unfortunately, some actions from the federal government, such as the act of the aerial bombardments, make our tasks and mission very laborious and tedious.

There are already wounds in the hearts of majority of the Youths from the Southeast, sequel to some acts of marginalization in the past, but we are doing our best to re-orientate them and have those wounds healed as we re-instill the love for this great Nation in their hearts. Thus, any further actions that will add salt to the injury should be eschewed and totally avoided.

There are other ways of handling issues which will ensure that situations do not get out of hands. Has Federal government tried the medium of "re-orientation of Youths from the Southeast"? Is the Federal government aware that a PEACE CONFAB, geared towards re-orientating the mindsets of majority of Southeastern Youths, can eradicate some agitations in the hearts of our Youths? It must not be via military force, all the time. The effects of the operation python dance are yet to be effaced, further application of military force in the Southeast will create more tensions and unrest for this great Nation. We are already "sitting on keg of gunpowder", any further application of force can trigger an unexpected explosion.

On a more serious and disheartening note, Ndigbo Youth Parliament is highly "disappointed in all the Governors of the Southeastern states and in majority of our political elites". If not for the laxity of our governors, Nnamdi Kanu would not have taken laws into his hands by creating and establishing ESN.

There is no gainsaying in the fact that we need a security outfit, not owned and controlled by the Federal government, in the southeastern states just like the Amotekun of the Southwest and the Hisbah corps of some Northern states. Unfortunately, our governors are playing to the gallery, trying to curry favour from some quarters outside the southeast, for their selfish ambition of 2023 while allowing their states to remain porous and their citizens hindered from their farmlands by the herdsmen. What a selfishness of the highest order!

"It is only a tree that is told that it will be cut down and it still remained at the same spot", says Igbo aphorism. Every being has a defensive instinct and natural defensive mechanism. The scorpions do not sting until one gets to touch them or they get in touch with what they perceive as "an enemy", same happens with the snakes. If these lower animals can activate their defensive mechanisms, then human beings cannot be faulted for doing their best to protect themselves against "invaders, attackers and bloodletting forest marauders".

Nnamdi Kanu, much as I fault him for taking laws into his hands as he is not a constituted authority, was able to activate defensive mechanisms for Ndigbo since our governors are all in slumber or probably in "mental coma". Had our governors been proactive in the security affairs of our people, there will be no lacuna for Nnamdi Kanu to fill up with his own ESN outfit. Suffice it to say that I blame our governors for whatever happened in Orlu and whatever that is happening in the Southeast.

I beckon on all well meaning Ndigbo, especially our Youths, to arise and awaken our governors from slumber! It is time to ask them to pragmatically utilize the security votes, which they receive monthly from the Federal government, in the interest of our people. It is the fundamental prerogative of our governors to protect the lives and properties of our people. Whence they fail in that primary mandate, then a vote of no confidence will be passed on them soon!

Like our people would say, "taa ka bu gboo" (today is still early); let our governors arise and take charge! Our governors should take charge of our region, patriotically! They should borrow a leaf from the below paraphrased statement of Goodluck Jonathan; "my political ambition is not worth the blood of any citizen of Nigeria." The political ambitions of our governors, come 2023, should not push them to abdicate their primary duty of protecting the lives and properties of our people. Their political ambitions is not worth the blood of any Igbo person. Enough is enough!

Chief Akanyeonu said old Aguata has taken their turn “Chief Andy Uba was a Governor, no matter how short, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezife was a Governor. They are from Old Aguata. Even in Senatorial seats, Orumba people have been denied the opportunity but Nnewi and others have enjoyed it. It’s time for our brothers and sisters from Old Aguata and the entire Anambra State to support our Son Dr. Godwin Maduka to be the next Governor of Anambra State”

I had time to interact with the common man in the streets of Umunze. I mean the Okada or motorcycle riders, the Keke operators, petty traders, various women associations and youths who unanimously endorsed the governorship aspiration of Dr. Godwin Maduka.

They kept saying “We want Dr. Godwin Maduka to be the next Governor of Anambra State so that he can develop Umunze just as he did in Umuchukwu. Dr. Godwin Maduka is a kind and generous man.
