This doesn't hold. There are some unschooled/unlearned that can beat you hands down when it comes to public confidence. It's more of a character than learning. Also your DG/ES/CEO, is he also underconfident since he must have gotten there by connection too?
You are right, this maybe more of a character trait. It's also possible that a person gets a job through connections and he isn't qualified for it and it can affect his confidence level or general character in the organization. It might not be about confidence, it might also be fear of annoying or biting the hand that brought you.

Oh well!!! My point still remains that people still get jobs on merit and it's not 100% about connections.

The DG is a world renowned professional... He applied and went through the recruitment process and he came out on top as expected. He contested against those with big connections and considering his reputation, he was the most qualified for the job.

Okay, but what I'm trying to say is, getting in through connect doesn't mean they don't merit it.

Lack of confidence is a different thing entirely. Some people are like that in office space, once you tell them oga is calling them they will start shaking. Just like people have fear of public presentation. Unless they are total olodo in office and they don't know shii, that will only justify if they don't merit it.
Yes!! This is also possible....

So they don't have confidence when dealing with oga just because they got the job through connect? When in the actual sense, it's them that even have more confidence that nothing will happen because there connect will still come through for them if anything happen.

There lack of confidence is due to another thing entirely. Haven't you seen people who do normal interview when they get the job and are still scared of there superior at work? It happen mostly in private sector.

This thing you're saying is all in your head in my own opinion, you already had it pre-registered since they told you they got in through connection and I blame them for that.

Na govt Job be this oo, rising to the apex office in govt agency doesn't mean you enter through due process or diligent. Na still that politics and lobbying they go still take beat you to the apex if you don't blend in.
Well! we are all entitled to our opinions. Good luck

Actually they didn't tell me they got it through connect. Once you are working in a place and people just resume like that... You already know how they got in.

The fact they got it through help of connect doesn't mean they are not qualified or they don't merit it or you're better than them.
Yes you are right, I am not better than them in any way. I just realized that my comment may have created that perception. However I noticed that people who get jobs through connections are not as confident when dealing with their superiors. But ofcourse, this is just my opinion

Start building your connections, make a priority list, semi priority and supplementary. Don't appear desperate to them, don't beg too much, don't disturb and don't appear to them like poor and destitute.
I think this is the truth.... I think the perception that one needs connection to get jobs makes it difficult for people without connections to apply for jobs even if they feel they maybe qualified for it. I think we need to be confident and avoid such sentiments when we apply for jobs and I think that's only when we will be able to clearly attack job applications with everything we have (I am not implying that if you have connections, you shouldn't use it but don't depend on it 100%).

In my department, only 2 of us got the job via interviews. The rest were through connections or just APL. Today we are the only guys with the most confidence in the department cz we know we got there on merit. Just cz people get jobs through connections doesnt mean we can't also get it on merit.

well I am currently in my second FG job without any connections. I am currently waiting for a second interview with a private organization and an FG agency for my 3rd job hopefully. I think it's important to note that some still get jobs on merit.

grin grin grin It’s really funny how you say we let this religion thing slide but you make the most mention and reference to it.

I strongly believe you’re missing the point here. Someone said that this recruitment could be “suspended” ( maybe he meant to say delayed) because of the Ramadan fast. I argued that the government could have instead made it a public holiday if they were so concerned.....suggesting the Ramadan shouldn’t be a reason to suspend the recruitment. To drive home my point I gave an instance of the Christian fasting period (called lent). Imagine the government does that too (as they always do for both sides), almost 80 days of the year would be gone. I never even implied anything new, I just made my analysis from what we already know. I don’t know what part you have a problem with sha, but I think the fuss may be misdirected. Our worry should be the delay and not my opinion on this.
There was no need for the response, your position was understood. Please let's focus on "waiting for the invite" and any other relevant information. Thanks

Well noted. I would like to state some things for clarity though.
First off, no where on this thread was it stated, black and white that the process was cancelled due to the Ramadan fast.(correct me if I am wrong)
Second, are you aware some Fed Govt agencies allow their staff close early during the month of Ramadan? I dare say some private businesses do same.
Third, perhaps, the composition of the board members is such that the Muslim faithfuls asked for a shift, so they focus on the fast?
Fourth, there is nothing "deep" in what I observed. For the records, not all Christians observe the Lent period. As a matter of FACT, all Muslims observe the Ramadan fast.
A point to note though, "Ramadan" isn't a festival, it is one of the pillars of Islam. A 'must' on all Muslim(s) to observe it.
I still say we let this thing go.
Please stop with the argument. Fasting doesn't stop anyone from working or earning a living and it certainly doesn't prevent anyone from attending an interview that may not last more than an hour. Sallah celebrations on the other hand requires a public holiday that can affect any planned schedules for govt or private institutions.

Please! Please! Please! Please! Let us be patient and leave Ramadan out of it.

I haven't heard any news about them.
I saw them 2 weeks ago patrolling in a very slow moving convoy on my way from Kaduna to Abuja. They were all women.

Did you see these in the EH first test? Saw them in the gmat I was “tricked” to buy.
Good you’re well read about gmat, but I think you’re missing the point. Don’t generalise cheating, coz you disrespect those who worked hard. Celebrate with those who have been invited, simple! Note that nobody is comparing intelligence here. I admitted that I’ve failed exams severally. You can’t be experienced and not have failed. I don fail plenty!

I no dey fight with you oga. It’s nothing personal.

P.s: took back my last comment for this.
Thank you for sharing the truth on this issue. Please if you do not have gmat try to get a copy or copies. Diagrammatic reasoning is part of 2006 - 2013 copies of GMAT but not in the 2017 version that I have. I never had time to study GMAT though. Please let this argument stop.

I will also like to say that I like working with established facts not with rumours. The fact is some have been invited to upload their docs and fill out a form. We cannot confirm anything else. Please let us guide our emotions and utterances and let's not give up until it is clear that the recruitment process is over.

This is my theory. Maybe, NCDMB sent the list of "must be on the list", so that testmi can add it to merit list, and they will all be invited for interview. What if they actually invite 2000 for interview as someone has earlier suggested and they end up employing 1000. Say, ratio 600: 400 connect: merit. My wish anyways. What will be will be. We go dey alright!
This is the type of positive energy I love so much. Thank you

However what is scary is that this picture was taken from a file and if this picture was recently taken then it implies that there was no letter written by NCDMB after this. So it could also mean that maybe the waiver wasnt granted and NCDMB had to advertise in the end.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: NCDMB 2020 Oil and Gas EH & GT Jobs by aligs: 2:46pm On Feb 16, 2021
I understand that the letter was written to waive the requirement to advertise the recruitment for the 150 persons they urgently required in 2019. It is therefore possible that the letter isnt referring to the current recruitment exercise that was "PUBLICLY" advertised last year.

I have seen arguments about individuals assuming that a high score during the test should mean they are better than those with lower scores. It doesnt matter whether ethinicity or politics is added to this view or not, this way of thinking is flawed.
As an academic with experience in teaching and conducting exams I can comfortably say that it doesn't matter if you score higher than a person during the test. It does however matter how you pass the overall process. For instance in an academic environment there are tests and then exams, practicals, field work and finally project thesis.
It is clearly stated on the Testmi website that your score doesn't automatically get you the job. There are so many factors which are taken into consideration and one integral factor is your ability to do the job and to prove so through out the whole process. Scoring 90% may allow you to attend the interview stages but it doesn't mean you will be successful during the interviews. And of course I expect that the interview stages is scored as well.
So I want to advice the fellow who keeps bragging about getting 90% in the test that it's not over yet. Please prepare as much as you can for the interview stage if you get called and leave the issue of sentiments outside this thread.

Thank you
