PoliticsRe: Lagos 2015: Non-Yoruba Will Be Governor. by aljharem(m): 4:01am On Jan 06, 2013
Ngwakwe: @alj harem, I didn't quote you as you view may be different.

However tell South Westerners to stop selling their land to non indigenes
but if they do, let them never use uncivilized and dubious ways to deprive them their universal basic right to vote and be voted for in their own country.

My brother, I have always worked for equality since 1948 after surviving the Nazi escapade.
do you think you do not have equal rights ? Are you as a lagosian deprive of any benefit the indigenes get ? Don't use Nairaland as a form of image of Lagos

Get2go: this is what we want in nigeria. We are not asking that they give non-indigene the governor on a platter. We will work for it. IT'S POLITICS!!!
Exactly so what is your argument about. Fresh party presented one Igbo woman like that and she got 53 votes or so, who's fault is that ? Yorubas or what ?

No point in history have lagosians or any yoruba stopped any ethnic group from contesting for any position in Lagos state or SW as whole. So stop painting a picture of lies here as if you would be prosecuted if you contest as a non- indigene.
PoliticsRe: Lagos 2015: Non-Yoruba Will Be Governor. by aljharem(m): 10:06pm On Jan 05, 2013
Ngwakwe: Probably, you are not even from Lagos State.

I used my city as a case study and was polite about it, but you quoted my comment only to vomit abuse.

What is in Lagos for me to wish for or what has a Yoruba that I cannot acquire through hardwork and determination. Non of my siblings or parents have lived in Lagos.

I only come to Lagos on a business trip and back when am done.
So why are you so worked up ? undecided

@ Get2Go

I don't care if you reside in Lagos or not. My question is refering to the statement you made. Why Lagos, why not any other state ?

As for the topic, na una wahala be that. NO ONE HAS EVER STOPPED a non-indigene from contesting and no one would ever will. Feel free, Yorubas don't really care unless of course on nairaland.
PoliticsRe: Lagos 2015: Non-Yoruba Will Be Governor. by aljharem(m): 10:57am On Jan 05, 2013
Get2go: When I say Non-yoruba rulin Lagos in 2015, i'm not refering to Igbos because they are not the only ones making up the greater percentage of Lagos population. And since we are in a democracy, i strongly believe that a man from Eastern or Northern origin will be the governor of Lagos in a free and fair election if all non-yorubas support his candidacy. Governance is about the welfare of the citizens of a country residing in a particular place and i believe in Hausa man or Igbo or Ijaw Governor of Lagos will do just fine for indigenes and non-indigenes considering that non-yorubas constitutes for about not less than 70% of Lagos population. This can as well be applicable in any state of the federation.
So why use Lagos as an example. It is annoying you know ?

shymexx: But I still don't think PDP can win in Lagos... And how do you know this other guy is an Awoist?? Has he ever held any position of power in the state?? Anyone can just blab about being an Awoist - however, getting the work done is the most important thing...

For argument sake: if Tinubu in his capacity as the most hated godfather in the country could go against all odds and impose Fashola(the man of the moment) on the state, what makes you think he doesn't have someone in Fashola's mode for 2015huh
How did you know Fashola was an Awoist before 2007 ? Did Fashola ever hold any position ?

As of 2007 Tinubu was not hated

Tinubu did not impose Fashola on Lagosians, Lagosians voted for him because they love him and not be Tinubu's doing. Lets not mistake here.

shymexx: Don't worry, bro.. It's not going to get into my head - I'm just posting based on how politics work in the country... They need to spread the love so as not to alienate a section of the people in the place...

And what's this Ade Dosunmu guy's ideology?? Is he also a capitalist and what plans has he got for the state??

Jakande was an Awoist and he did well for the state because of his ideology...
Yes indeed Jakande was an Awoist and we still love him.

What is happening now is that Tinubu (not ACN) is taking advantage of Awolowo's sentiment in the west to get power. It is a known fact that if you are not an Awoist, you are going nowhere politically in the west and that is what Tinubu is doing

I mean WTF is this

Now look at tiunbu

Do you understand what I am saying. He is using Awolowo's name to get power which would have been good if he was working but rather he is just acquring more and more wealth for himself and family rather than the people he is leading over.

He is then using ACN to expand his political business all over. Thank God that men are not robots.

Dosumu is a pure Awoist. As you know already he would not present a crap candidate in any forum.

shymexx: However, I'd prefer a political party with some socialist leaning - tired of these greedy capitalists, to be honest...

Preferably someone with the same ideology as the Osun governor...
Political party ? Why not individuals. Lets look at Fashola. It is individuals people are voting based on now rather than Party.
PoliticsRe: Oluremi Tinubu For Governor (Lagos State) by aljharem(m): 12:42am On Jan 05, 2013
shymexx: The Jakande man that ruled Lagos in the 70s is also an indigene(Awori)... Fashola is also an indigene but I heard the Tinubu guy is from a next state...

However, since Ijebus produced Awolowo, they should have more people like Awo to bless Lagos with... Perhaps, that's why I'd prefer an Ijebu man for the job... Let them spread it to the other subgroups as well and not make it a Lagos Island thing..

That's just my 2 cents..
Nope Jakende is actually from Illorin Kwara state

Fashola is the third generation so yes he is an indigene that is why he is more passionate about lagos unlike his predecessors' Tinubu who just kept on stealing.

But regardless whether they are indigenes or not, Jakanda transformed Lagos and he was not an indigene.

Symexx no one cares if he is from any sub-group so long as he can do the job then people would vote for him. Please don't think I like Dosumu because he is Awori. Far from it, I love him because I know he would transform lagos by starting from where Fashola stopped.

Don't let this sub-group thing get into your head Shymexx angry. wink

Lets just do the right thing here.

Owus are not Really Egbas.
Owus are part of the four egba kingdoms. In fact it was actually Owus that went to demand for the king's head during Sango according to the Mainframe movie. Correct me if I am wrong

Also Owus were the ones that attracted Aworis and took Ota from them along other towns

shymexx: But PDP is actually worse than ACN... Why can't he join another party - preferably LP, or something??

Btw, Dosunmu looks like an Awori name, kind of similar to the Dosunmu king the Brits sent on exile to Epe during colonial times... Is he an Awori guy??
Yes he is but it is not of any advantage anyway.

PDP is not worse, don't allow this Nairaland people to deceive you. Pdp have internal democracy and that is why they keep exposing and arresting themselves unlike ACN where Tinubu is the demi god of the party and his words are law.

LP won ondo just to shut tinubu up not that they love Mimiko that much

shymexx: Nah, it's not even about - it's about the fixation on the place... Most of these clowns don't even care about their home state, however, they'll commit suicide when it comes to issues about Lagos...

Since no Ijebu son has ruled the state, don't you think it's high time they allowed the Ijebus to rule??

Btw, Nigeria is all about quota system...
Nah not Lagos. Remember we are yorubas so we don't care where the ruler is from so long as he performs.

No Awori , Ijebu or Egun has ruled Lagos before and these are the indigenes. Ade Dosumu is the first true indigene of Lagos state but not that it matters or gives him an edge over others.

I just love him becasue I know he would perform just like how Buhari would have performed if he won the election

Who do you think is the best candidate for Lagos state at the next governorship polls??
For me it is Ade dosumu because he is young and a technocrate that is not attached to any money hungry god father like Tinubu or Bode George.

seanet01: Alhajrem stop talking nonsense.
At no point in Time did the Amazons defeated Egba People. It never happened. We crushed them each time they rear their ugly head.
After Ijebu, Egba too don come

There was a period Egbas were defeated by our Egun women

While Gezo plotted his revenge against the Egba, his new female recruits were put through extensive training. The scaling of vicious thorn hedges was intended to foster the stoical acceptance of pain, and the women also wrestled one another and undertook survival training, being sent into the forest for up to nine days with minimal rations.

The aspect of Dahomean military custom that attracted most attention from European visitors, however, was “insensitivity training”—exposing unblooded troops to death. At one annual ceremony, new recruits of both sexes were required to mount a platform 16 feet high, pick up baskets containing bound and gagged prisoners of war, and hurl them over the parapet to a baying mob below. There are also accounts of female soldiers being ordered to carry out executions. Jean Bayol, a French naval officer who visited Abomey in December 1889, watched as a teenage recruit, a girl named Nanisca “who had not yet killed anyone,” was tested. Brought before a young prisoner who sat bound in a basket, she:

walked jauntily up to [him], swung her sword three times with both hands, then calmly cut the last flesh that attached the head to the trunk… She then squeezed the blood off her weapon and swallowed it.

It was this fierceness that most unnerved Western observers, and indeed Dahomey’s African enemies. Not everyone agreed on the quality of the Dahomeans’ military preparedness—European observers were disdainful of the way in which the women handled their ancient flintlock muskets, most firing from the hip rather than aiming from the shoulder, but even the French agreed that they “excelled at hand-to-hand combat” and “handled [knives] admirably.”

For the most part, too, the enlarged female corps enjoyed considerable success in Gezo’s endless wars, specializing in pre-dawn attacks on unsuspecting enemy villages. It was only when they were thrown against the Egba capital, Abeokuta, that they tasted defeat. Two furious assaults on the town, in 1851 and 1864, failed dismally, partially because of Dahomean overconfidence, but mostly because Abeokuta was a formidable target—a huge town ringed with mud-brick walls and harboring a population of 50,000.

djustice: You mean Dosu-mumu that couldn't marshall his own thoughts and mumbled his way through the debates? You people are so clueless. PDP cannot win with Dosu-mumu. Surely, there are better people in PDP than that dunce!

I've never seen him say A WORD in defence of PDP since the elections, but I see Taofik Gani, the PRO of PDP, who's wayyyy cleverer than Dosu-mumu the dummy, fighting their corner and exposing ACN's excesses. Then, there's that Gbadamosi guy! If PDP present that guy, ACN are finished in Lagos. That's easily the most cerebral PDP person I've ever seen, apart from Donald Duke. Talks sense, without blowing grammar, and you can see the passion and hear the conviction in his voice. I've watched him a few times on various channels, and I would vote for him in a heartbeat.
I hope PDP can give us someone like that. I'm fed up to the teeth with these thieves and gangsters in the Asiwaju Criminal Network!
Ok, anyone apart from Tinubu's puppet would be fine. I am fed up as well and I know many Lagosian are tired, they want change and ACN would not give us that 2015. FACT !!!
