PointB: How can you proof first-hand that the band of camera-totting group meandering their way to the front row are actually who they claim they are? Whether the church has something to hide or not is not the issue here. The point is that such large gathering of people demands adequate security, fore notice is certainly part of security.

Sowore is simply a thug. Any same journalist will understand the importance of protocol or respect of sanctity of place of worship. Would Sowore pull such stunt in a popular mosque in the North having their jumat or whatever popular service they have?
security ? Was he holding a gun or any other weapon ?

How is Sowore a thug ? He is doing his job as an investigative journalist. Moreover he is considered a hero for some of us so what are you driving at ?

Yes he can do it in Mosque before or after the prayers so as not to distract people.

afam4eva: I warned her and after being banned she still used her other monikers to spread hate.

If she wants to vent her anger then she should start a blog. It's not gonna happen on the politics section. No way.
LOL and you think by banning her, it would end it ?

She is only responding to what she is reading not that she is spreading hate.

Let her express her anger, afterall this not an FP thread and the discussion is limited to few people on Nairaland. Some are even just ignoring her so let her air her views

Moreover this is her first time.

shymexx: That's unacceptable, bro... And if the people start Boko Haram-esque type of violence after that, it'll be justified...
No, get my point. No person among us would want a boko haram in their state. Everything would be carefully considered before electing the person in.

Do you think a Kanuri indigene would vote for an associate of boko haram in Lagos just because he is from Yobe ? Certainly not

Why did you delete and ban Shollypopz ?

I am sure she has every right to express her anger at some of the posters here which you did not ban. That is wrong.

Shymexx Shymexx Shymexx. How many times did I call you. Stop this mentality.

Anyone can contest and if he wins can rule any state (in this case lagos). It does not matter if he just came from Adamawa yesterday. Don't give people the wrong impression here.

Gbawe: Thank you my guy. Political sophistication will come to Nigeria even more slowly because we are unlucky with how events have panned out to make many Nigerians, whether they care to accept it or not, highly prejudiced people who make biased judgements regarding considerations (ethnicity, gender, religion et al) that are not such a big deal elsewhere.

You will see diasporans who should know better, via seeing their fellow Nigerian take political office in their diasporan Nations, come here to say Mr.X must never govern Lagos because he is not Awori despite the fact that Mr.X may be more talented, more dedicated to Lagos and more beneficial to the State than most Aworis. Those are the sort of issues we are grappling with that indicate Nigeria still has a long way to go.

To be honest, I hanker for the systems I see working well elsewhere to arrive in Nigeria but I have pragmatically come to accept these things will "need time to develop" , as you state, watching how majority of Nigerians act, think and talk .

Without a doubt, Nigerians will become more sophisticated politically in the future to the extent ethnic origin will matter less regarding individuals gaining political positions on merit but that time is still far away in future
I think Gbawe has now confused issues here. Who among all the posters have segregated anyone because he is Awori or not ?

All the posters indigenes and non- indigenes are saying is that is it possible for a non-Yoruba governor would govern Lagos and I don't think anyone spoke of Awori's right to anything here.

Is it because Mr X might not what Tinubu to keep controlling ACN and Mr X might just want change just as we gave Fashola a chance at it which was very impressive.

Both indigene and non-indigene just don't want another imposed candidate that would be tinubu's puppet. I believe in democracy and advancement of any Nigerian state, Lagos is too big for one man to turn to his personal business.

PoliticsRe: Lagos 2015: Non-Yoruba Will Be Governor. by aljharem(m): 1:50pm On Jan 06, 2013
Gbawe: I believe a non-Yoruba will be governor of Lagos in the end but that will happen when evolution makes that possible. When I mentioned Obama, I mean that a young man of Nigerian origin is being touted as able to achieve in the UK what Obama has achieved in the US. All this because attitudes has changed and evolution has taken care of things to ensure many now view Umunna as equal to them instead of insisting , as we see here, he is 'less entitled'. Obama, whatever the crisis the Nation was facing, could not have been President of the USA in 1960 America.

I would encourage anyone who truly loves Lagos , wherever they are from, to actively become involved in its politics. The journey of a thousand miles must begin somewhere and we will someday get to a situation where trusted Individuals many Lagosians believe have the utmost interest of the State at heart, whatever their origin, can become Governor. That time is not 2015 and may not even be here in the next 2 decades.
Gbammmmmm ! I approve of this

Eze Promoe: WORD!

You as a Yoruba lady, if you're asked right now and given the right to go and chase an Igbo lady close to you, can you? Whether you like it or not, Lagos is the hardwork of all Nigerians. It is the reason why Nigeria is still one today. For Christ sake, Lagos is no-mans land. tongue But who runs Lagos, THE IGBOS! That's why today the worst a Yorubaman can do to the Igbos is their keypad. Nothing more! I've known them right from time as e-warriors.
there is one thing that really irritates me. How can you say that ? LOL I have to agree with Shollyepop here after reading that crap

If likes of Ade Dosumu and Jimi are in ACN, I would vote for them because I know they would not be tinubu's puppet

I don't understand the point for this thread. Anyway sincere Nigerian or Beaf, I suggest you start bring out facts for GEJ rather than engage yourself with petty issues.

What Nigerians need now is work on ground like the way Gbawe is doing for ACN. Bring out noticeable developments done by GEJ.

They know don't work yourself up. The point he is trying to make is that a non-yoruba should be allowed to contest. Yes he is right

The only problem is that there is no point in history they have ever been stopped from contesting.

Get2go: The next question is: WHICH NIGERIAN NON-INDIGENOUS LAGOSIAN ORIGIN DESERVES THE GOVERNORSHIP TICKET IN 2015. It must not be Igbo, because the trend in this thread where Igbos are being blackmailed wont stop this aspiration. He can be Ijaw, urhobo, hausa, fulani, igbo, efik/ibibio, edo, isoko, tiv, igala etc all represented in Lagos. WE ARE LAGOSIANS.. YES WE CAN!!!
Indeed yes we can. Mobilize your people aka the non- indigenes and start the electoral process my brother rather than venting you anger or Lagosians Yorubas.

PoliticsRe: Lagos 2015: Non-Yoruba Will Be Governor. by aljharem(m): 8:11am On Jan 06, 2013
geeez: @alj harem, no Yoruba can claim to come from Lagos just because his name is Tunde. As a true Yoruba man, you should realize that every Yoruba family has an 'idile' or household and it won't even take the Oba to identify you.

I also wonder what the Igbos' obsession with Lagos is? Why aren't they saying this about Kaduna despite having a sizeable number of Igbos there? Wasn't Calabar also a former capital? And just because I bought a property in Kent and I have Yourba neighbors who own thier houses doesn't mean Kent is now Yorubaland

Lagos is geographically, culturally and politically Yorubaland and nothing can change that
We are saying the same thing geeez. I just made an exaggeration so he can understand my point. Most of the people he calls Yoruba in Lagos are actually the indigene anyway.

Also yes it is Yoruba but surely a non-indigene can contest. I hope you are not planing to take that right from them.

Tony Spike: Some nairalanders are so funny. Wasn't it the same NBS data released in 2006 that some ethnic bigots used to spite some regions quoted as having high poverty rates in Nigeria? Now that the data has been reviewed and updated, the figures are fake. This is very pathetic. This thread looks promising, Afam, be on the look-out please!

You think Exxon Mobile will lose their investments if Nigeria splits.

Nigerians have landed properties all over Africa and no one is afraid of loosing anything. Why should Nigerian case be any different.
LOL Big mistake. Although that is govern by international laws. Nigeria is govern by National laws
PoliticsRe: Lagos 2015: Non-Yoruba Will Be Governor. by aljharem(m): 7:24am On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: If Nigeria should split today what do you think would happen to the land you bought in Lagos?

If Nigeria splits into Biafra, Oduduwa, Nigerdelta Arewa etc. Do you still think the same fate of Ogun, Osun citizens in lagos would be the same with the Biafrans like Anambra and ENugu

Thats the difference Theres soething called "ANSWER YOUR PAPA NAME"

A Yorubaman is a Yorubaman anywhere whether in Lagos, Ekiti or Osun
@ Ngwakwu Egbon Dayo has just hammered my point across. That is the truth, there would be a massive difference.

Think about it, if UK should split. Do you expect the fate of Irish people in London to be the same as that of English ? Certainly not
PoliticsRe: Lagos 2015: Non-Yoruba Will Be Governor. by aljharem(m): 7:21am On Jan 06, 2013
Ngwakwe: @Dayokalu,

The document refers to every land including communal, inherited and sacred lands. There wasn't any reference to people being indigenous to the land.

If you may know the document put everyone living in a particular state in the same radar.

There was no mention of exclusive list where a particular tribe ownership endures forever without review.

What then makes any Yoruba from Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Edo and Oyo States different from somebody from say Sokoto, Enugu or any other State in Nigeria.

Lagos State is not an inheritance to South West States, rather a former Capital of Nigeria and will remain so. It must work for all its inhabitants and as Alj harem rightly said "No person will be deprived of his/her right of which right to vote and be voted for is inclusive"
Ok let me correct a notion here my brother and I would be realistic with you cuz there is no point lying.

Do you in any sense feel that the actual Lagos indigenes have more right than the people from those states you mentioned aka Ogun, Oyo, Sokoto, Enugu and co ?

If No, then that statement was not needed or put in the wrong context

If Yes, then that is where the problem is. Reason being, the rate at which people from Ogun and co can blend in would be very hard for a non-Yoruba to do the same.

We indigenes speak Yoruba or Ogu but 99% pure yoruba as our language, now a man for Ilorin or Kogi that is named Tunde and speaks yoruba can as well be considered as an indigene. I mean what is the difference, all he needs to do is spend a week in Lagos and call himself an indigene. What evidence do you have to proof he is not ? All you just see is that he is Yoruba and that is all that matters. Only yorubas themselves and I don't mean the ajebutters. I mean the olders that know there history can tell the difference and the Obas.

Ngwakwe, just drop the topic with Eko ile and co. I have supported you so far not because you are saying the true and being objective. While discussing, do try to add ethnicity or try to breakdown what would confuse you my brother. You would just fall for his trap.

As a Lagosian which I believe you are, you are entitled to every single right the indigenes of the state have. This include buying and keeping your land for as long as you want unless of course Lagos state government impound it. Even at that they MUST give you a good reason because it is your right and you can sue them as you so wish.

Now another thing I noticed is the misinterpretation among mostly igbos on buying houses and lands. When you buy such properties that is not in Igboland be it abroad or within Nigeria, you should realise that it is just a LONG TERM LEASE land and not ownership. No way in the world do ownership of a land occur and it is not about to start in Nigeria.

Why do you think UK and US call for investor to buy lands and develop ? Because they know it is still theirs anyway and in a few years time, it would no longer be yours.

Just so you know what you are doing when you buy land outside Alaigbo. Think about it, if the whole world have Igbo people's mentality about houses and land, we would have scattered countries of which part of Mexico is Texas or part of Nigeria is Atlanta etc aka expansionism. IT WOULD NEVER BE TOLERATED BY ANYONE be rest assured.

But don't let anyone deprive you of your right and also invest with wisdom. That is my point
