One other thing, going forward, we definitely need to reduce the power of these traditional leaders. They should by symbolic figureheads, and not have any real power. Democracy is the way going forward. The Queen of England and various other Monarchs in Europe have rightfully receded to the background. Our Yoruba Kings also need to learn that it is time for them to take a step back.

They can smile and make general fuzzy statements like this, take pictures for television/newspaper/etc. But they should not be political powerbrokers.

This Abacha event is pretty frightening to me. There is no reason that in this day and age an unelected ruler should have that much power.
