Operatives of the Inspector- General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), nationwide, have been plunged into mourning, following the murder of one of their colleagues, Inspector Mohammed Hassan, on Saturday.

Hassan was said to have been killed about 3p.m. on Saturday during an ambush attack on IRT team by suspected kidnappers at Giwa area of Kaduna State. The inspector, with Force Number 228061, was said to be the only operative killed in the attack, while his colleagues escaped death by a whisker.

The operatives, however, repelled their attackers and killed three in the process. According to a police source, the remains of the inspector had been deposited at Barau Dikko General Hospital, Kaduna State. The family of the deceased was contacted and Hassan was buried yesterday in Kaduna State, according to Islamic rites. One his colleagues said: “Hassan remains a hero for ever as he died in the line of duty, fighting for his country. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

A 19-year-old suspected cultist, Ayo Afiolorunsho, has asked his parents and family members to forgive him for bringing their names into disrepute. The suspect, who urged youths to shun crime, was arrested at the weekend by a team of policemen from Oworoshoki Police Division, led by a Superintendent of Police (SP), Nkereuwem Joshua.

A police source said: “The suspect was picked up at Oworoshoki area of the Third Mainland Bridge, as his group was planning a deadly attack on rival Eiye cult group. “The suspect confessed that they went to Oworonsoki, after leaving a meeting at Obalende. He said that they were supposed to have another meeting at Oworoshoki, when police appeared and arrested them all.” The cultists, on sighting the police team, took to their heels. However, Afiolorunsho was arrested, in possession of a sword, which he said was for self-defence.

The suspect, who is a ‘vulcanizer,’ said he was initiated into the Aiye cult group in Ikorodu area of the state by other members of the cult who kept threatening him for refusing to become their member. He said: “There is nothing to gain from cultism. I regret being a member of Aiye. Those that forced me to join cultism made so many promises to me, but all were lies. “Since the police arrested me, not one member of the group under any guise has visited me. I am left to my fate.

My parents are ashamed of me. I plead with youths to shun cultism. If I should regain my freedom, I would relocate to my village immediately and practice my trade. I have ruined my future with the group that I joined. I’m finished. My future is gone! I don’t know if I will ever leave the police custody.”

The Nasarawa state police command have arrested Mrs Grace Jacob Maisamari pictured left for killing her 4-year-old step grandson, Ritse Micah, on June 27th 2019. Grace threw Micah into a river over the hatred she had for her stepdaughter, Miracle Micah, Ritse's mother.

In her confessional statement to the police, Grace said her stepdaughter who is a 300-level Sociology student in the state university, never allowed her enjoy her marriage to Mr Micah and so she decided to deal with her.

On the day of the incident, Miracle had gone to school, leaving Ritse with his grandfather. Grace feigned traveling to another part of the state and decided to hide somewhere until her husband went out with little Ritse. She snuck back in and hid herself inside the room where the little boy normally sleeps. When her husband returned, he took little Ritse to the room and then retired into his own room. Grace came out of the place where she was hiding, carried sleeping Ritse and travelled with him in a vehicle she had already rented. She travelled from their house in Garagu, a community in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, to Akwanga local government area in the state where she tied him up and threw him into a well where he died from Hypoxemia.

When asked what the little boy's offence was? Grace told the police that she had no problem with Ritse but that her grudge was with his mother who has been rude to her since she got married to her father.

“I decided to kill the innocent boy due to the attitude of his mother. After killing the boy, it dawned on me that I took the matter too far. I was restless but my anger against his mother’s attitude could not stop it from happening. Initially, I felt fulfilled and normal. I slept that night after the incident but the consequence of my action became clear after I was picked up by the police. I felt cold for the first time. I don’t know what came over me but the mother of this boy is the major problem in my marriage. She has stolen my joy since I got married to her father, it has been from one problem to another,” she lamented.

Grace is currently cooling her feet at the criminal investigation department of the Nigerian Police headquarters in Lafia and will be arraigned in court soon.

In an interview with Bolanle on Ndani TV, the 'Joromi' crooner revealed that she met Adekunle Gold on Facebook and their first meeting was at a show she headlined in Lagos.

Simi further revealed that she never knew her husband as a singer on first meeting, but as 'King of Photoshop'. They went on to become friends, dated and eventually got married.
