The other day it was Ekiti state who discovered over 4000 ghost workers and 7000 others who work with forged certificates in the state . This is the resaon for unemployment in Nigeria because they create ghost employees to fill in the available vacancies.

So in your honest opinion you think that why there's so many Almajiris in the North is because they have held on to power for 38 years?

Whether the North ruled or not has nothing to do with Almajiris. FYI, that social menace is somehow linked with religion. Many of them believe they were born to be beggars and Almajiris.

So i dont get the correlation in your argument.

I think the north is impoverished because their leaders do not empower the people on how to be independent and self sufficient rather, they empower them to hang on to every benefit that will come from the government by ridiculing the census, flooding the military and holding on to the government by hook or crook. There is a limit to which those things can take you. America is filled with great people today because they resist big government and its undue interference in their lives.

Take out the hope of holding power and watch the Northerners increase their revenue through the private sector in seconds. Why should you waste your time in school when you are sure that your uncle who is a minister of goro is not educated and can dole out contracts to you at will?.

5year old Sharon Omolayo is missing. She was last seen on Monday december 13,2010 when a family member was sent to pick her up in a taxi cab after school hours from Avicenna school, Ikeja. She has since not been seen and and the uncle who picked her up is also missing. His phone is switched off and he cannot also be traced.

For some of us who keep asking why Igbos want to lose sleep over the presidency, I'll ask you this question: Why is the North losing sleep, forming all sorts of consensus committtee and vehemently scheming various plans to get their own a person of northern extraction into Aso villa?

This is where the difference lies between those who call the shots and those who unconsciously consider themselves what their mockers want them to be(i.e second-class citizens).

For the sake of our dignity, let's stop underestimating ourselves.

Have you considered the fact that the North is poor, largely uneducated and holding to presidency means a lot to them. They see it as a way of measuring up with the south. Nigeria is 50 and the North has ruled over 35 years out of that 50, yet they are poor. When Igbos subscribe to that mentality of holding on to the presidency because of increased welfare windfall that will come through for their people, they will slowly build a generation of almajiris that are still scanty in Igboland.

No society in this world progresses when they put all their fate and hope in the hands of Government and the largess that comes with it.

IT was a bad day for a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Jimoh Fadipe, on Wednesday, as he was molested and arrested along with about 40 other persons by the police for allegedly attending a political rally, fully armed with dangerous weapons.

Fadipe is a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislator, representing the Ibadan South-East constituency in the state legislature and he is already campaigning to return to the Assembly for a second term.


The PDP chapters in the 11 local government areas in Ibadan had organised the rally, which was held at Mapo Hall, Ibadan, as part of the preparations of the party for the forthcoming general election.


However, before the arrival of the state governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, at the venue of the rally, the police, apparently acting on a tip-off, embarked on a stop and search exercise and, in the process, found several guns, including four pump action double barrel guns, pistols and charms in four vehicles.


Promptly, the cars - a Mercedez Benz salon (BC 254 EPE); Nissan Xterra Jeep (OYHA 09 A); Hyundai Accent salon (FP 682 KJA) and a Nissan bus (AW 69 BDG) - were impounded by the Police, while about 40 people, said to be loyalists of Fadipe, were also arrested and taken to the Mapo Police Station, Ibadan.


The lawmaker, from whom two English pistols were said to have been confiscated, was arrested while seeking to effect the release of his 'boys', an attempt which infuriated the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the police station, Mr. Francis Ojomo, who immediately ordered that he should be arrested and detained at the station.


Meanwhile, addressing the mammoth crowd and PDP members at the rally, Governor Alao-Akala, said that his administration had fulfilled all its electoral promises, maintaining that the PDP would retain its position as the ruling party in the state after the 2011 elections.


Promising not to let the people of the state down, he carpeted those who were opposed to him as he declared that nobody could frustrate his administration in its quest to improve the living condition of the people.

National Assembly bows to pressure from public, Osoba, to cut overhead

AT last, the voice of the people seemed to count for something: The National Assembly yesterday bowed to public outcry including that of former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, on their jumbo pay as they promised yesterday to review downwards their recurrent expenditure.

“We will make the required sacrifice and review downwards our recurrent expenditure. We expect others to make similar sacrifice,” Senate President David Mark said yesterday at the presentation of budget by President Jonathan Goodluck said.


Osoba had in an interview with The Guardian two days ago expressed concern on the danger posed to democracy by the activities, especially the seeming profligacy of the lawmakers. His interview, an exclusive with The Guardian, had been one of the high points of the outcry by many Nigerians and the media against the jumbo pay and other excesses of members of the National Assembly.

“This National Assembly has displayed a spirit of intolerance for simple criticism. This kind of thing makes me wonder if this democracy will survive,” Osoba had said.

He continued: “I have lately been worried by some of the text messages going round. One of the texts claims that it costs taxpayers N290 million yearly to maintain each member of the National Assembly. Another compares the salaries of the lawmakers to that of military generals and police officers.”


According to him, the text messages had said that in a country where nothing works, a federal legislator earns more than the yearly income of a doctor, twice the pay of the president of the United States (U.S.), and nine times the salary of the U.S. congressmen.

He then said: “They are the ones opening themselves to this danger that can make this democracy collapse. These young men are making things difficult and dangerous.


“These are dangerous insinuations constituting danger to our current democracy. The lawmakers must purge themselves otherwise they will pull down the roof on all of us,” said the former governor. “I am disappointed about the insensitivity of the National Assembly members. Anybody who criticises them is summoned and warned. Recently, a member of the House of Representatives made a statement attacking the jumbo pay of the National Assembly members. He was made to withdraw it in the chambers.”

The Central bank Governor Lamido Sanusi had in a paper presented at the convocation ceremony of Igbinedion University, told the nation that the lawmakers were gulping 25 per cent of the nation’s recurrent expenditure. This did not go down well with them as he was summoned to the National Assembly and asked to tender an apology. Sanusi refused to succumb and threatened to quit.

Mark, however, insisted that while the poor budget implementation has continued to remain the nation’s economic and social development albatross, the unacceptable disproportionate ratio of recurrent and overhead expenditure to capital expenditure is an issue that must be addressed.

He said: “No nation desirous of meaningful development can afford such a disproportionate allocation of its financial resources between consumption and investment towards its own future development. This means that the cost of running government has been increasing at an unsustainable rate. We must all rise together and address it.”

By Wednesday next week, more than half of Igbos around the world will converge in South Eastern Nigeria for Christmas. Over 60% of the remaining ones did not travel because of their job or finances. Why do Igbos love Christmas so much?. Is there anything in Christmas that connects with Igbo culture?
