Bullcrap.
This is the argument always given for banning importation of certainn items. And each time the ban is put in place, Nigerian manufacturers fail to step up to the task. Even when the local fellows start to fill the gap, they take advantage of this to stuff inferior quality and expensive items down our throats.
How do you expect them to step up to the plate when the foundation is not there?. Nigerian manufacturers are not to be blamed here until our government provides energy, roads and the adequate climate for them to function properly.

The children in both pictures are definitly having fun. The hand supporting them must be that of their mum. The kids are innocent at that age. However parents should not encourage children to kiss as they grow older, because kissing  may lead to some other immoral behaviour. Dont forget that these children watch movies, &  parents have to go to work, etc. & so are unable to monitor their children as they should. House helps are not helping matters because,  they do not  painstakingly  care for these children. Some even invite their lovers over when their madam is at work, & they are not discret in their love play.  These children need our guidance always & it is our duty to correct them when they are doing the wrong thing.
Don't encourage them at all in my view.

Onitsha traders jubilate over lifting of ban on importation
From EMMANUEL UZOR, Onitsha

VOTE
Friday, December 3, 2010
There was wild jubilation yesterday in Onitsha, the commercial nerve centre of Anambra State, as traders took to major streets and roads in the city with placards commending President Goodluck Jonathan for lifting ban on importation.

http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/3/501.html

Daily Sun gathered that some of the major traders who went on jubilant parades were mainly those who deal on fabrics and importers of consumables while car dealers were still silent on the recent development. Some of the traders said the recent lifting of ban on importation of goods into the country by the present administration was a sign of good development, adding that they would now be allowed to transact their business without hitch.

According to Mr. Sunny Igboeze, who said he was one of the victims of the ban on imported goods by previous government, the recent development would boost his business. He said the ban had caused them great losses.

“When they said some of the major goods we imported had been banned, I was one of the persons who lost so many containers to the ban because we were importing goods from countries like Dubai , China and even Germany before they said that. But today, we the traders in Ontsha are grateful to President Jonathan for lifting the ban.

“I can tell you that with this, the prices of goods will fall abysmally and every one will be happy for it and even the government will benefit because no body will be dodging paying his tax of any other revenue,” he said.

Others who spoke to Daily Sun included Mr. Ibeabuchi Okeke who said he was importing clothes, popularly known as Okirika and recounted his ordeal any time his container arrived the shores of this country, stressing that the Nigeria Customs Service manipulated the opportunity to extort money from the traders.

He said “it has been a hell doing business in this country especially dealing on banned goods but one must have to survive. The Nigeria Customs Service used the opportunity to extort money from traders who tried importing those materials through illegal means. But today, one can easily import the genuine materials into the country with the customs doing their routine work, period”

Federal government had on Monday said it had lifted ban on some imported goods into the country which included toothpicks, cars, and other materials, which were regarded as contraband goods by successive governments.

Chris Ubah, Metuh in free for all fight at airport
News    Friday, December 3, 2010

By Tony Edike

ENUGU-THE Police, yesterday, began investigation into the circumstances that led to the exchange of blows by the National Vice-Chairman, Southeast, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh and a member of the Board of Trustees, BOT, of the party, Chief Chris Uba in Owerri on Wednesday.

http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/3/310.html

The two chieftains in separate interviews, however, blamed each other for the brawl that apparently followed their open disagreement on issues relating to the crisis rocking the Anambra State chapter of the party.

Metuh claimed he received a jab on his neck from Uba at the airport prompting him to frontally attack Uba, the one time godfather of the Anambra State chapter of the PDP.

Vanguard gathered that infuriated Metuh openly told Uba at the airport that he lacked the character of a member of the BOT of the PDP.

The two PDP chieftains who hail from Anambra State belong to rival camps of the party which had engaged in a protracted legal tussle to retain control of the party's structure in the state.

The State High Court recently voided the party's congresses held to elect executives at wards, local governments and state levels, a development that had escalated the party crisis.

The scuffle described by many as a show of shame took place when they met at the airport which has since the past one year remained the transit route for air travellers within the South East zone owing to the ongoing reconstruction of the of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Uba is said to be favourably disposed to the decision of the court which has insisted that the sacked executive committee led by Benji Udeozor be reinstated to complete its tenure but Metuh is said to be in support of the outcome of the party congresses which the court has since voided.

The lingering conflicts within the PDP in Anambra, Oyo, Enugu, Bayelsa, among others prompted the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to issue a fresh warning last Wednesday to the party over alleged inconclusive congresses requesting the ruling party to resolve the crises without delay or risk the dire negative consequences in the coming general elections.

Uba and Metuh confirmed the scuffle in separate telephone chats yesterday. but while the BOT member stated that his official reaction is that he has nothing to do with his rival and would not comment further, the national vice chairman confirmed that he was hit on the neck, prompting him to face the assailant.

However, it was also gathered from sources close to the two chieftains that Chief Uba countered Chief Metuh's account that he (Uba) hit him first. The BOT member was quoted as saying that the national vice chairman was the first to slap him, thus confirming that they actually exchanged blows.

Another source hinted that Metuh became very angry after the scuffle that he publicly told Uba that he did not have the character to be PDP BOT member but Uba, on his part, accused Metuh of compromising his position by his actions in the affairs of the party, especially the congresses in Anambra that have continued to spark off controversy among leaders of the party.

However, the duo confirmed yesterday that they have already reported the fracas to the Imo State Police Command and have also written statements to that effect to enable the police investigate their various claims as to who threw the first blow that led to the fight.

Part of the N539 water treatment plant that collapsed during test run along Shendam road in Lafia, yesterday.

The overhead tank of a N539 million water treatment plant in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, collapsed yesterday during a test-run by the contractor. Water had been pumped into the tank for the first time when it keeled over and fell.

Ibrum Integrated Services Limited, which has N1.6 billion water project contracts in the state, was given six months from May, 2008 to complete the Lafia project with specifications to refurbish the old water works, provide two additional overhead tanks at the plants’ booster station along Shendam Road and NTA area, and to provide underground pipes through the metropolis to channel water to the various sections of Lafia.

But the project suffered serious hitches, with the completion period dragging on till yesterday, when the company’s engineers invited government officials to witness the test run at the booster station along Shendam Road.

The main tank, whose capacity was put at 3 million gallons, was filled to the brim in the test run, but its stands then began to wobble, made a screeching noise before pumping water to the various channels. Engineers and government supervisors who stood at the foot of the main tank had a premonition of impending disaster coming and they took to their heels, leaving behind some construction vehicles behind.

The stands then collapsed and the overhead tank came crashed down, ramming into construction equipment and sending water surging water into adjoining offices and all the way down the Shendam Road. Even though the booster station’s premises was hard hit, no one was hurt as the engineers and government officials had all scampered away. Nasarawa State Commissioner for Water Resources James Agule Kasse spoke to newsmen shortly after he led the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Timothy Anjide for an on-the-spot visit to the collapsed structure, thanking God that no lives were lost.

Kasse blamed “technical problems” for the tank’s collapse but told newsmen the management of the contractors was yet to report to Lafia to give reasons. He said, “The contractor is not around. We want to meet with the contractor first because the project is still under him, and is only being test run.”

The project was expected to be presented for commissioning soon.

Some niggas are really deluded.
Don't mind those O' yes idiots trolling this thread. They are seriously deluded. Republicans are holding the govt hostage by forcing the president to do as they wish or nothing will be done and they are happy about it. They managed to sweep this elections and that is what they needed to wreck the havoc and to be honest they don't want anything to get done before 2012 so they can use it against Dems in the election.

These deluded fools are not yet convinced about the republican ploy even after they clearly showed that they have no clue on how to cut costs after the election. Something they ran their tickets on. Of course, it is practically impossible and they know it. CNN gave them 3 months to come up with a plan and their plan will surely be to cripple Obama's government so as to force him out of the white house and wreck America for another 4 years. This is a grand style coup d'etat. They used that system to get oust Jimmy Carter and got George Bush into office and it took another 4 years for Americans to realize that they have been fooled, then comes Bill and after 8 years, they cleverly hijacked the election for another 8 gloomy years of which the economy is still suffering today.

Like you said before, some niggers are seriously deluded. Having a college education is not the same as having common sense. Many black people pack degrees upon degrees yet they are still confused.

Are 80% of judges below average? Lawyers, others react

Law & Human RightsDec 2, 2010
By Innocent Anaba, Abdulwahab Abdulah and Ikechukwu Nnochiri

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, last week started another controversy, when it said, at the inauguration of its committees in Abuja, that “the present NJC (National Judicial Council) records over the past seven years, only 20% of Judges are ranked as average or fairly good. The rest are simply not pulling their weight. These assessments are from empirical records.”
This clearly place 80% of judges in the country below average and of serious concern to any discerning mind. It is actually a serious matter to the ordinary Nigerian, if he or she is made to believe by the NBA, who quoted an NJC report, that eight in every 10 judges, before whom all manner of matters are brought for determination, are indeed below average and perhaps not fit for the job.
If the report is true, then it is also an indictment on the legal profession generally, because it is from the pool of practising lawyers, be them those in private practice, the various government agencies and the court itself, that judges are appointment.
https://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/nba.jpg

If a lawyer is up and doing in his practice, he or she will certainly be a good judge, but if he or she is below average, certainly, no magic will improve him, after all, it is argued that you cant give what you don’t have. It also suggests that 80% of lawyers in Nigeria today are below average, at least in the last seven years, since that was the conclusion of the said NJC report, because it is the lawyers that end up at judges.
Even though some people may not be too surprised by this revelation, being that they are close to the system, many more ordinary Nigerians would be. The implications are just too many for one to ignore the report.
But with the way judges are appointed and manner of people appointed to the bench, one may not after all be too surprised. On the appointment of judges, which is one sure way this trend could be checked, retiring judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Akinjide Ajakaiye, speaking at a valedictory court session in his honour in Lagos, during the week, organised by the leadership of the Federal High Court, said “for the judiciary to be able to play the sacred role assigned to it very well, it must ensure that both the appointors and appointees to the bench are men of proven honour and integrity and most importantly those who have fear of God in them.
“Appointments should not based on sentiments, political considerations, neither should it be at the whims and caprices of the appointing authorities. Merit should no longer be sacrificed for mediocrity,” he added.
Justice Tajudeen Odunowo, another retired judge of the Federal High Court, had recently expressed the same concern, when he said “before independence, you don’t lobby to made a judge. But when we took over, I mean we Nigerians, people started going through the politicians to be made a judge. We have a lot of instances of people who are not suppose to be there, who are there.”

Nigerian, 6 Pakistanis arrested over forged passports for al-Qaeda groups

Thursday, December 2, 2010
Spanish police have arrested six Pakistanis and a Nigerian suspected of providing forged passports to organisations linked to Al-Qaeda, including the group accused of plotting the 2008 attacks in Mumbai, the interior ministry said yesterday.

http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/2/509.html

Three others: two Pakistanis and a Thai national were held in Thailand as part of the same Operation Kampai, which “neutralised a vast cell that helped provide passports for Al-Qaeda,” it said in a statement.

Spain’s interior ministry yesterday named the seven held in Barcelona as Junaid Humayun, Atiqur Rehman, Jabran Ashgar, Malik Iftikhar Ahmad, Mohammad Saddique Khan Begum, Tanveer Arshad, all Pakistanis and Nigerian-born Babatunde Agunbiade.

The three detained in Thailand were Thai national Sirikanlaya Kijbumrung, and Pakistanis Muhammad Athar Butt and Zeeshan Ehsan Butt, the ministry said.

A police source in Thailand said four people were arrested in the country as part of the operation, but gave no further details. Spanish police detained the seven suspects in raids in and around the northeastern city of Barcelona, which has a large Pakistani community, late on Tuesday.

The gang stole documents, including passports, which were sent to Thailand to be forged and then delivered to Al Qaeda-linked “terrorist groups,” in particular the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba that has been accused of plotting the Mumbai attacks, the ministry said. Ten militants killed at least 166 people in three days of violence in the Indian city in November, 2008. The suspects arrested also supplied the defeated Sri Lankan separatist group the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, the Spanish statement said.

“In total, seven people have been arrested in Barcelona (six Pakistanis and a Nigerian), all for belonging to a cell providing documentation for terrorist organisations linked to Al-Qaeda,” it said. “The international structure was led by a Pakistani national living in Thailand and who has been detained, who directed the cells based in Europe, decided the features of the passports to obtain and, once they were received in Bangkok, supplied them to different terrorist groups.”

Since the investigation began a year and a half ago, police “have detected a number of stolen passports taken from Spain to Thailand, which were stolen almost entirely in the province of Barcelona from tourists who met the requirements stipulated by the ‘World Islamic Front’ in order to be used by members of different terrorist cells linked to Al-Qaeda,” the statement said. In the raids, police also seized stolen passports, a computer and hard drives, mobile phones, documents and cash in various currencies, the ministry said.

The operation, which was carried out in conjunction with the police forcesof other European countries and of Thailand, is continuing, the ministry said. Spanish authorities have stepped up operations against Islamist radicals since the March 11, 2004 Al-Qaeda-inspired train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people and wounded 1,800 others in the country’s worst terror attack.

Sixteen of 28 anti-terrorist operations carried out since those attacks have taken place in the Catalonia region, whose capital is Barcelona, according to a study published last year by the research institute Elcano. Last August, Spanish police arrested a Moroccan man suspected of recruiting Islamic extremists over the Internet and helping them travel to “conflict zones” such as Pakistan’s restive tribal zone of Waziristan, Afghanistan and Chechnya.
