It is easier to steal a truck than a motorcycle - Suspect Written by Saka Gbeminiyi, Lagos Sunday, December 5, 2010 Men of the Ogun State Police Command, Eleweran, Abeokuta, were stunned last week when a suspected truck thief told them that to steal a truck was easier than to steal a motorcycle. The suspect, Sina Lateef, 33, is now a guest at one of the police stations in Abeokuta. [img]http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/5/tribune/images/saka[1].jpg[/img] Sina Lateef http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/5/607.html He was arrested recently by the police for stealing a truck at Ijebu-Ode Toll Gate. Sunday Tribune investigation revealed that the suspect is now helping the police to unravel circumstances surrounding some missing trailers in the state. The suspect told Sunday Tribune in an interview that he was trained as a truck driver and that he has worked in about eight different companies in the last seven years. "My name is Sina Lateef. I'm 33years old. I'm from Ife, in Osun State. For my primary education, I attended Akinlebe Primary School, Moniya, Ibadan and for my secondary education, I attended Aponmode Secondary School, Moniya, Ibadan. After my secondary school education, I couldn't proceed further due to financial constraints. So, I decided to learn a trade. I learnt driving. I have been driving trucks for about eight years. I have worked in about eight different companies before I got my present job in Ijebu-Ode. I'm a truck driver in the company. My salary is N10,000 per month. I'm married with a child. My wife is in Ilorin, Kwara State. With my wife, I always change jobs due to poor pay." Sources at the police command told Sunday Tribune that the suspect was one of the truck thieves disturbing truck drivers in Ogun State and its environs. It was learnt that the police had been battling with cases of missing trucks in the state."There has been an upsurge in cases of missing trucks. In some instances, the trucks were hijacked from the driver together with the goods in them," a police source informed. Sunday Tribune learnt that the suspect has been telling the police the mystery behind some of those missing trucks. "But, we usually found the trailers after the criminals might have off loaded the content. There were also instances when they hijacked petrol and the vehicles were later abandoned. We have not seen a case where somebody would steal an empty truck from where it was parked. It was a new dimension to crimes in the state," the source told Sunday Tribunezxhjmk,'[ |
Saturday, December 4, 2010 Joy as Enugu receives 30 luxury buses from Innoson From Leo Sobechi, Abakaliki KEEPING alive its avowed determination to partner with indigenous auto manufacturers in its programme of modernizing intra-city commuting, Enugu State Government has taken delivery of 30 brand new luxury buses from the indigenous auto giant, Innoson Automobiles Nigeria Limited. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/4/3.html Disclosing this to The Guardian, Commissioner for Enugu Capital Territory, John Egbo, noted with glee that Innoson has justified the confidence reposed in it by Governor Sullivan Chime, pointing out that having taken delivery of the buses, arrangements have been concluded with the authorities of Rokana Nigeria Limited to brand the buses in Coal City Shuttle colours. Egbo, who doubles as the Commissioner for Transport, stressed that the Sullivan Chime administration is well focused on its urban renewal programme adding that the government was not happy to see residents of the state commuting in less than conducive circumstances since according to him transportation represents a key segment of the modernization of the Coal City. "The Sullivan Chime-administration insists that Coal City must rank among the modern cities of the world; the Governor is not happy to hear people say that Enugu is reclaiming its old glory. His Excellency believes that the Coal City is being transformed to match any other modern city in the world. And transport, a civilized means of intra-city commuting is a major part of this transformation. That is why 600 brand new taxis were injected into Sullivan's Coal City Cab scheme," he explained. Egbo noted that the addition of the 30 new buses brings to 50 the number of such luxurious intra-city buses, saying that the vision of the government is to make public transport safe, affordable, convenient and popular so as to reduce congestions and the rush to own second hand cars that trouble the environment with their high carbon emissions. The commissioner praised the management of Innoson for its timely delivery of the 30 air-conditioned luxury buses, which he said were coming at a time passenger traffic in the city was on the increase. He observed that it was incredible that a Nigerian firm could keep to terms of contract. In his reaction, the Special Adviser to Governor Sullivan on Transportation Matters, Emeka Mammah, declared that the people of Enugu State have nothing to complain of again in the area of mass transportation, saying that the policy of the state government was to ensure healthy commuting within the city to take care of the influx of visitors to Enugu. Mammah, who is a scion of the transport mogul, Ifesinachi, added that the decision of the state government to increase the fleet of Coal City shuttle buses was informed by the demand of women and school children for more luxury buses that would enhance personal safety and comfort. The buses are to be unveiled at a brief ceremony by Governor Chime at the Michael Okpara Square, Enugu. |
Atiku in secret meeting with Soludo in London News Saturday, December 4, 2010 By Chioma Gabriel The Consensus Candidate of the Northern Political Leaders Forum and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has taken his presidential campaign to United Kingdom where he also had a secret meeting with the former Central Bank Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo before jetting off to Swtizerland in his bid to consolidate his campaign structures and ensure he emerges the presidential candidate of PDP in the January primaries of the party. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/4/302.html Saturday Vanguard was reliably informed that Atiku met the former Central Bank Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo in the UK and stayed with him for two days . Both men were said to have traveled out over the weekend for a secret meeting with other stakeholders in diaspora. Our source said they also used the opportunity of their meeting to strategise on the coming PDP primaries and how to enhance Atiku's stronghold in the South East to heighten his chances of defeating president Jonathan in PDP primaries. Saturday Vanguard learnt that the meeting might have afforded the two the chance to discuss Soludo's likelihood of emerging the presidential running mate to Atiku in the unfolding scenario of the search for a running mate for Atiku from the South East. . The consensus Northern candidate is also said to have used the opportunity to meet other Nigerians in diaspora and discuss the modalities of the 2011 elections and how to ensure the ruling PDP remains the party to beat during the coming elections. Atiku is said to have left UK for Switzerland Thursday to continue negotiations and consultations with other Nigerians in diaspora. He is expected to return to Nigeria this weekend to continue consolidating in the geo political zones. Atiku Abubakar is, for now, the most formidable opponent of President Goodluck Jonathan in the primaries, after emerging as the North's consensus candidate. Saturday Vanguard gathered that while the decision on the running mate is likely to be a joint one with General Ibrahim Babangida, General Aliyu Gusau and Dr. Bukola Saraki all of who fought the consensus mandate with him, he has started compiling names of "sellable" politicians from the South-East in which former CBN Governor , Chukwuma Soludo seems to be a favourite. Others penciled down for consideration are former Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani, ex-Minister of Information, Chief Emeka Chikelu and a former member of the House of Representatives, Nze Chidi Duru. The South East , according to information available to Saturday Vanguard is currently sharply divided over who to support in the primaries between President Jonathan and Atiku with the major Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, throwing its weight behind the President . The choice of an Igbo running mate for Atiku would believably neutralise Jonathan's support base in the South East but some Igbo leaders don't see any cause for that as Jonathan is not perceived as a threat to Atiku in the South East, because, according a Saturday Vanguard source, " not all Igbos share the Ohanaeze position in supporting Jonathan. We are of Igbo Political Leaders Forum and we have the likes of Ekwueme amongst us with whom the Northern Political Leaders Forum signed a pact that come 2015, Presidency must go to the South East. Forget what Ohanaeze is saying because for now, the organisation has no leadership. Uwechue's tenure has expired recently and everybody is speaking differently. "The Deputy President of Ohanaeze, Elechi Onyia is not in support of Jonathan but the Northern consensus candidate and one of the conditions for this support is an Igbo President in 2015 and Vice President in 2011. One thing that is very clear is that both Jonathan and Atiku are struggling for the soul of the South East and whoever among these four that Atiku chooses as a running mate would make or mar his chances in the January PDP primaries," the source said. |
How landlord killed tenant over holy ghost fire prayer Written by Saka Gbeminiyi Sunday, December 5, 2010 TRAGEDY struck recently at 6, Kadri Avenue, Oluwo Village, Alagbado, Ogun State, when a landlord, Mr Tunde Alabi, 46, allegedly hit one of his tenants, Mrs Folake Akinola with nail-studded stick on the forehead over controversy about "holy ghost fire. [img]http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/5/tribune/images/feat_bad_1[1].jpg[/img] The suspect, Mr Tunde Alabi http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/5/608.html Sunday Tribune learnt from police sources at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, that pandemonium broke out in the area on November 18, 2010 when some youths in the area stormed a church within the neighbourhood and burnt it down. Some members of the church, including the pastor, were equally beaten blue black. The suspect, Mr Tunde Alabi, who is the owner of House 6, on the street, told Sunday Tribune that, "some youths invaded the church on the 18th of November and torched the place. They accused the pastor of practising Voodooism. Some members of the church, including my tenants, Mrs Folake Akinola and her husband, were equally beaten by the hoodlums who attacked the church. I was at home when the incident happened but I did not go out. I was inside my room praying". However, problem started the following day when the deceased and her husband allegedly accused the suspect of being the brain behind the attack on the church and its members. They reportedly said he was always praying that Holy Ghost Fire should descend upon his enemies, saying that the fire that gutted the church was his handiwork and that he was the one who sent the boys to attack and burn down the church. Explaining this aspect of the story, the landlord stated that "As usual, I woke up very early in the morning to observe my morning devotion and I prayed that Holy Ghost Fire should consume my enemies. That has been my prayer point for the past three years. I always pray that fire should consume my enemies. So, after my prayer on that fateful day, I came out around 6.30am and I was preparing to go to my workshop when the husband of the deceased came out to challenge me that I was responsible for the fire that gutted their church. He equally alleged that I was the one who sent the thugs that attacked them in the church. He said God had answered my prayers and that was why the incident happened. I told him that I didn't direct my prayer to anybody in particular and that the prayers were against my enemies. "All my explanations that I was not in any way connected with their misfortune did not make any meaning to them, as they descended on me. The husband hit me with a hard object and I fell down, unconscious. They poured water on me to resuscitate me. Immediately I regained consciousness, I also looked for a stick to hit the man, but it mistakenly landed on the deceased's forehead and she started bleeding. They took her to about four different hospitals before she finally gave up the ghost at the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The incident happened around 6:30am, but the woman died around 3.30pm." Speaking on the allegation that he was always engaging his tenants in one quarrel or the other, the landlord said: "I'm a very gentle person. I'm a mechanic. I am from Igbeti in Oyo State. I have two houses on the street. I moved into the area around 1995 and I have been living peacefully with my tenants and other landlords. My problem with this couple was my prayer point. They always complained about my usual request for Holy Ghost Fire to consume my enemies. There were other tenants in the house, but I don't know why the couple always complained about my prayer". |
saturday, December 4, 2010 I want the German Embassy to look into this issue, give me a visa to travel to Germany and see things for myself and help me apprehend my husband, who declared me dead many years backI haven't seen or heard from my four children 10 years , Bosede Obasa I have been married for 20 years. I met my husband and married him at the age of 18. At the time, he had just emerged from the ruins of his previous marriage to a white woman. I haven't seen or heard from my four children 10 years http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/4/820.html I learnt that the woman lost her pregnancy and unable to get over the shock, she decided to commit suicide. My husband and I met through my aunt who lives in Ibadan, Oyo State. His own parents still live in the city, even as I tell this story. As it turned out, we were both properly married. Afterwards, he made an arrangement for me to join him in Germany, where he lived and worked. Eventually, I joined him after I had given birth to our first child. Later, I gave birth to three other children. In all, we have three daughters and a son. For awhile, we lived happily together until matters took a different turn when I was delivered of the fourth child. I was afflicted by a mysterious illness, which affected my nervous system. Initially, my husband stood by me and tried to see how I could get well again. But soon it became certain that we needed to find a cure for my illness back in Nigeria. Unfortunately, each time I was brought home for treatment, I seemed to get better only to relapse when I returned to Germany. After what seemed like our last visit to Nigeria together for treatment, my husband shrewdly abandoned me in my aunt's home. But I kept responding well to treatment and gradually recovered. Initially, my husband had allowed two of our children to stay with me. But it was for a short time. One after the other, he took both of them back to Germany and abandoned me to my fate. For a long time, he did not even bother to learn how I was doing. It was not long before I realised that he was unable to cope with the pressure that came with my illness, he had finally dumped me. As a result, I have not seen or heard from my children since 2000. My aunt and her husband have been responsible for my upkeep and medical care. To make matters worse, my parents-in law, both of who are church leaders, and my other in-laws, have stopped showing empathy for my plight. My husband has since stopped communicating with me. He has refused to take responsibility for my upkeep and has stopped sending me money, no matter how meagre. As my health improved, so did my yearning to reunite with my family, especially my children, in Germany. Anyone who has visited a labour room can tell that it is impossible to assume that one was never there. I got the shock of my life when I called my second child on the phone to wish him happy birthday and he replied that he did not know me. Subsequently, I made an effort to travel to Germany and see things for myself. In the process, I discovered the height of man's inhumanity to a fellow man. When I got to the German visa office in Cotonou, Benin Republic, I was coldly informed, after enduring much tossing around and suspicion, that I had been declared dead many years back by my husband. He obviously wanted to get rid of my memory in order to settle down with another woman. Eventually, I learnt that he had remarried and fathered more children. What I can't understand is why, even if he does not want me again, he is punishing me by keeping my children away from me. Why did he have to tell them that I am dead? Is this not a subtle way of eventually killing me? I want the German Embassy to look into this issue and help me apprehend this man, so that I can have access to my beautiful children. They deserve to grow under my care. I am not dead, I am alive and well. The public should come to my rescue. I must not labour in vain. |
'China, India, others now haven for Nigerian loot' From Tokunbo Adedoja in Rhode Island, USA, 12.04.2010 Sunday, December 5, 2010 Nigerian treasury looters have found new destinations for their loot: Persian Gulf, India and China. This revelation came from former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador John Cam-pbell, one of the speakers at the 2010 Achebe Colloq-uium on Africa. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/5/218.html Campbell, who was among a panel of speakers that x-rayed the topic, "Nigeria: Recovering Looted Funds", said contrary to popular belief that funds looted by Nigerian politicians go to countries in Europe and US, such funds have been redirected to the Persian Gulf, India and China for safe-keeping. "Funds looted from Nigeria are no longer going in large amounts to Switzerland, France, and United Kingdom or United States, but rather, to the Persian Gulf, to India, and perhaps to China," he said. Quoting the Global Financial Integrity, an NGO, he said it is estimated that between 1970 and 2008, a total of $854 billion left Africa, and the final figure could be as high as $1.8 trillion. The envoy said: "Africa in other words, is a net creditor to the world. It gives back to the world from illicit capital flights, at least twice, and in some regions, three times the amount of capital it receives in external assistance. And Nigeria has the highest outflow of all," he added. Campbell said: "Even when the looted funds can be identified, recovering them is also very difficult because it involves a legal process conducted according to the rule of law." The envoy also said that when talking about the rule of law, it involves the laws of Nigeria and the laws of those countries where the looted funds are. He said though funds looted by Nigerian politicians are known to US, it is difficult to prove individual cases in US courts of law, because it involves a criminal process. He recalled that even the recovery of assets seized by the Nazis during the holocaust continues 65 years after the destruction of the Nazi state. He said "Looted assets from Nigeria contribute directly to international criminal activitiy which in turn impact directly on our (US) national interest. In other words, looted assets from Nigeria, are also manifestly bad for the United States. It is in our own narrow self interest to try to do something about it". In his own presentation, another former US envoy to Nigeria, Ambassador Walter Carrington, lamented that one of the greatest problems he had discovered as someone who had always tried to be a great optimist as far as Nigeria is concerned, is that Nigeria is only seen in terms of corruption. The envoy said while he was serving in Nigeria, the question of corruption was quite a matter of concern. He said at a time he was asked why he was so concerned with corruption in Nigeria when there is also corruption in the US. Carrington said the difference is that while stolen the money stays within US shores and projects are executed effectively and efficiently, in the case of Nigeria, nothing gets done or built to last very long, while looted funds are also stashed abroad. He also recalled that during the military era, he was among those who wanted to see the exit of the military from governance so that corruption could leave. He, however, lamented that like the biblical teachings that the poor would always be with us, corruption has remained even in the civilian dispensation. Carrington also acknowledged that Nigeria began the war against corruption very well in the 1990s and in the early 2000s until the issue of selective prosecution cropped up, when people that were prosecuted were perceived to be the opponents of those in government. He said he hopes that from now, there would be a sort of "blindness" in the prosecution of anti-graft war, adding that it is when the issue of corruption is addressed adequately that Nigeria would be given the kind of recognition it desires by US. |
UI female lecturer petitions Jonathan, NUC over alleged victimization News Monday, December 6, 2010 By Ola Ajayi BARELY a week after leaving office as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Olufemi Bamiro has been petitioned by a female lecturer of the institution, Dr. Adenike Ogunshe over alleged assaults and violation of her rights. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/6/305.html The petitioner who lectures at the Department of Botany and Microbiology copied President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Universities Commission, NUC, alleging that she had suffered series of individual, collective brutal and unjust victimisation, dehumanisation, oppression and discrimination during the tenure of the immediate VC. According to her, "at a point in time, the laboratory door to my office was locked so that I could not gain access to the office. I wrote to the VC but the only action taken was to instruct me to send a memo through the acting HOD which was not acted upon. But, the institution's Registrar, Mrs. Omotayo Ikotun would not want to lower the reputation of the institution by joining issues with the aggrieved lecturer. She said the petitioner had earlier been summoned by the disciplinary committee of the institution. Dr. Ogunshe recounted that as a result of the alleged victimization, she lost her "microbial cultures" having spent N75, 000 for the repair of a departmental giant refrigerator in the mycology research laboratory for storage of new sets of microbial cultures "but the acting HOD later tried everything possible to stop me from using the refrigerator". Describing her alleged victimization as a life threatening one in the 14-page petition, she stated that her ordeal started from when she opposed the former VC's plan to appoint a senior lecturer as the acting Head of her department over a professor. After the appointment of the senior lecturer as the Acting head of department, she was allegedly sent packing from her office as it was locked up and she could no longer gain access. She also said, she discovered in February this year that the plug of the fridge which she repaired with her money to keep her collections had been disconnected for a long time because she did not remove her newer microbial cultures from the fridge. She claimed "I have been spending everything I have on my research studies only to be repeatedly set back in my career by people who have powers to oppress me at will and without any caution or redress."news |
Monday, December 6, 2010 Each lawmaker in Abuja earns N290m yearly, reveals ex-Rep From Adamu Abuh (Kano) and Chido Okafor (Warri) A FORMER Minority Leader in the House of Representatives and current National Chairman, Peoples Salvation Party (PSP), Junaid Mohammed, has disclosed that each member of the National Assembly earns N290 million yearly. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/6/9.html Mohammed, who spoke with The Guardian in Kano at the weekend, stressed that the situation was a huge drag on the country's quest for development. He canvassed a prompt and drastic cut on the lawmakers' pay. His words: "Do you know that it costs tax-payers N290 million yearly to maintain each member of our National Assembly in a country where 80 per cent of the population earns below N300 a day? "A working day earning of a senator in Nigeria is more than the yearly income of a doctor; it is more than the salaries of 42 Army generals or 48 professors or 70 commissioners of police or twice more than the pay of the U.S. president or 9 times the salary of a U.S. congressman. We have to say no to the looting of Nigeria in the name of democracy". On the way out, Mohammed said: "We can have part-time legislators who will earn part-time salaries. The U.S. is not the only presidential system; we have the presidential system in France and so many other countries and the legislators there don't earn this kind of salary. In most countries of the world, legislators don't fix their own salaries as there is an independent body which does that". Meanwhile, the Kano State-based Democratic Action Group (DAG) has commended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Lamido Sanusi, for standing his ground against the National Assembly in spite of alleged threats to victimise him by the lawmakers over his recent disclosure that the latter have appropriated 25 per cent of federal recurrent expenditure to themselves. The group pledged to organise a nationwide protest if the National Assembly took any punitive measures against the CBN governor. Executive Director, DAG, Muhammad Mustapha, told the media in Kano: "We all know that it is immoral for people to appropriate money for themselves as our lawmakers are doing in Abuja. People who will look at them in the eye and tell them the naked truth like Lamido Sanusi did are rare. We treasure his stance and we would give him all the support he needs". Also, a former governorship aspirant in Delta State, Mr. Sunny Onuesoke, has called for the immediate probe of the National Assembly members over the 25.1 per cent expenditure claim. Onuesoke said: "How can members of the National Assembly who are less than 1,000 appropriate 25.1 per cent of the Federal Government overhead cost to themselves? This shows that they are just there to amass wealth for themselves and not for the interest of the country". http://odili.net/news/source/2010/dec/6/9.html |

Inside Homosexual Church SATURDAY, 04 DECEMBER 2010 11:13 BY NWABUEZE OKONKWO •Open sex •Community fights back https://www.thenationallifeonline.com/images/resized/images/stories/gay%20church%201_200_155.jpg Its real name is Day Spring Assembly, but the host community of Umunze in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State nicknamed it ‘Skirt Church’. This is because the entire community had watched with utter astonishment as the pastor and members of the Church indulge in bizarre style of worship. The pastors and their flock had allegedly gone round the community, including the Nkwo market square preaching that there is nothing wrong in men having sexual intercourse with fellow men, even in the open. Aside that, the church members had, while mounting the rostrum, preached that any man was free to take another person's wife to bed, provided the woman gave her consent. To crown it all, the community has been embarrassed by the mode of dressing of the church members. They say male members of the church dress in women’s attires such as skirts, blouses, ear rings and wigs, while their female counterparts wear men’s attires. The church, it was further learnt, encourages members to go on a drinking spree, and worship all through the night, beginning from evening till day break (TDB). Not comfortable with the situation, women in the area had staged a protest at the church warning the congregation against what they called obnoxious religious worship. According to them, the practice is capable of promoting sexual promiscuity, particularly among the youths in the area. As the congregation ignored the women's warning and allegedly continued with their preaching mode, which attracted more members on a daily basis, the women marched to the church premises, demolished the entire structure and ordered the members to leave the area. A visit to the community during the week, National LIFE learnt that members of the church might have ignored the quit notice issued them by the community, as they have since regrouped, and even making plans to rebuild their demolished church building. Now the battle line seems to have been drawn between the worshippers and their host community. As at the time of filing this report, the church members had started moulding blocks in readiness to rebuild the church, even as they spread tarpaulin over the demolished structure to provide shelter for their normal practice. At the Church premises last Tuesday, National LIFE sighted a members sitting under the tarpaulin quietly. None of them was willing to be drawn into any dialogue. By Wednesday afternoon, no member of the church was around, as the entire premises was deserted. However, a neighbour who spoke to National LIFE on anonymous condition, said they usually gathered during evening hours anyday they want to worship and remained till the next day. When contacted, a member of the church who identified himself as Silas Nwafor, a petty trader at the Nkwo Market, Umunze, said he is an ordinary member of the church. According to him, he is not competent to comment on the matter without first obtaining clearance from their pastor who he said lives in Aba, Abia State. http://www.thenationallifeonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3427:inside-homosexual-church&catid=128:lcover&Itemid=840 |

Would you marry someone whose sister/brother you have dated previously?:VOTE Would you marry a girl whose sister you have dated previously? Published 04/12/2010 13:10:00 Florence Amagiya Johnson grew up in a family where culture and tradition is held in high esteem. He was only a little child when his mother taught him about the norms, values and traditions of his people; so before his age mates heard about these things he knew them already. He lost his father at a very tender age and his mother did not remarry. This made life for him pretty difficult because he became both the husband and son to his mother. He survived and attended a higher institution. He met Laura in his class. They were cat and rat from the beginning until their third year when the relationship took a turn for a great romance. The romance lasted until they graduated and went to different places for service. Laura had spoken of her younger sister who did not grow up in their house. According to Laura, her younger sister moved in with their aunt when her aunt got married and relocated to Abuja. Severally, Johnson visited Laura’s family house, not one day did he get to meet the younger sister, so he did not know her or even saw her photograph. Johnson was posted to Abuja while Laura went to Rivers State. After service, they were both retained in their places of assignments. So visitation became a problem because of the distance and job demands. The relationship took its natural course as a result of this. Johnson met Linda by chance while driving home one hot afternoon in Abuja, she was crying bitterly and looking stranded on the roadside. He gave her a lift and this led to many outings together that resulted to a serious steady relationship. Today, they are engaged and are both travelling to Linda’s family house for introduction. They got to the house. Guess who opened the gate? This is what our celebrities have to say. Nigerian men don’t believe in successful women –Bukky Wright By Bolatito Adebayo Sunday, December 05, 2010 https://www.sunnewsonline.com/images/Bukky-Wright2.gif Bukky Wright Bukky Wright is the cross-over queen in Nollywood . She is one of the very few distinguished actresses in English and Yoruba movies. Her journey to Nollywood started fifteen years ago and despite the challenges she is thriving. In this interview with Sunday Sun, she sheds more light on her project, career, clothing line, motherhood and offered tips on how to stay relevant in Nollywood. Excerpts: What’s behind Save our soul? It is my love for children that prompted the project. What has been the response to it? A lot of people are responding and of course we hope that more people will still respond. Tell us how you made it to the top in Nollywood? Well, one thing I always believe in life is that you should do your best and leave the rest to God. Always be focused. I’ve done that and I thank God I am where I am today. Could you give us five tips on staying relevant ? Number1, believe in God, number 2, believe in yourself, number three, always make sure you are focused. Number 4,you should learn to share. Don’t be selfish. Finally you should be very hardworking. What informed part three of Omatara Johnson? People like you encouraged me . A lot of people asked for it. Honestly as far as I am concerned, Omotara Johnson finished in part 1 but they challenged me to write part 2 and I give glory to God that I was able to do it. They challenged me again to write part 3 and I give glory to God that I have written that too and I have done the shooting .Now, I am praying to God for it to sell and I believe strongly that it would. When should we expect part 3? It’s my Christmas and New Year gift to my fans. Some say successful women slept their way to the top. What’s your take on that? Only the woman knows how she got to the top .I advise women to be resolute and persistent . Infact they should be prepared for opposition on their way to the top. If you want to win the race you should stay focused . You see, all these things are just distractions and because most Nigerian men don’t believe in women being successful they tend to say all sorts of things. Some men are just distractions, so just believe in yourself and let them say. What should budding artists do to stay relevant like you ? Things I already mentioned . If they adhere strictly to that they will remain relevant. Is it true that you are the richest Yoruba actress of our time? (Laughs) I am saying amen to that o! But it is widely believed that you are the most successful Yoruba actress? Well, I am saying amen to that again. I claim it. Why haven’t we been seeing you lately on the screen? I still act but I do other businesses too that demand my time .So I have to manage my time because there will be a time I will not be able to act again. I am not saying today or tomorrow but I should have something to fall back on. Of course if any good script comes my way and I like it, I will pick it up and go on set. So how is your clothing line doing? It’s doing wonderfully well and I give glory to God. How did you handle men on your way to the top? Well, that I would say is not my doing but the grace of God. How have you been coping with your career, business and as a parent ? It still comes down to the grace of God but I thank God, because you cannot do it alone. Also people around me have been of great help. What’s the difference between Omotara Johnson and Bukky Wright? Are they alike? Well, I can’t say that but I know and strongly believe that I am not like Omotara Johnson. It’s a free world and people have a right to their views and believe whatever they want . I will play any role the scriptwriter wants me to, but I am not like Omotara Johnson off screen. You sound so religious and this contradicts the impression many of your fans have about you? I believe so much in God and to my understanding I am a very religious person but it now depends on your definition of being religious . I know I’m not fanatic and I am not a hypocrite. I believe strongly in God and I pray and fast a lot. I believe that without God, you can do nothing. How have your children been able to handle your controversial self? They know their mother so well and it doesn’t bother them. Like I said earlier, it doesn’t bother them because they have grown up to learn and understand the other side of stardom. Are you saying that they have never been teased or taunted about it? They know their mother so well and they have learnt to stand up for themselves when they are faced with such situation. Honestly, I thank God for having very confident children. Do you see your kids becoming thespians? Well, if it suits them fine , but I would want them to excel in anything they are do. http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/explore/2010/dec/05/explore-05-12-2010-001.htm |
