For a Yoruba woman, a child is a beautiful, bountiful bundle of Joy from God. Culturally, without children, marriage is not complete. That is why the mother-in-law often goes out of her way to find a fertile woman for her son. Yoruba women believe that family's lineage does noyt live on without the appearance of a child after the matrimonial vow. My question is, why is it so hard for us to adopt? There are many homeless beggar children, esp Hausa-Fulani children, on the street nowadays. Why can't we, as the mothers of our society, learn to adopt children?
Another foolish assumption. Why she thinks that hausa Fulani has the highest number of homeless and poverty stricken children in Nigeria beats me. Where is your data?. Are those alaye in every corner of lagos Island begging for N20 not Yorubas? what is the difference between them and the begging Fulani kids? |

Tuesday, November 30, 2010 Kenyan Prime Minister calls for arrest of gays https://ijcentral.org/images/uploads/Raila-Odinga.jpg Raila Odinga Kenya's Prime Minister Raila Odinga has ordered the arrest of gay couples in the country. Addressing a rally in the capital Nairobi on Sunday, the prime minister termed their behaviour "unnatural". “If found the homosexuals should be arrested and taken to relevant authorities,” Mr Odinga said. The premier thrilled the crowd in a largely conservative country when he asserted that the country's recent census showed there were more women than men and there was no need for same sex relationships. He termed it "madness" for a man to fall in love with another man while there were "plenty of women" and added that there was no need for women to engage in lesbianism "yet they can bear children". Mr Odinga’s statements are likely to rub Kenyan activists the wrong way, who have recently been emboldened to go public to campaign against widespread homophobia. The remarks also come months after the country's special programmes minister Esther Murugi attracted the wrath of Kenyans by calling for recognition and acceptance of gays, a topic almost anathema in the conservative country of 40 million. On Sunday, Mr Odinga accused the ‘No’ team [that opposed the passage of Kenya's new constitution] of misleading Kenyans during the campaigns that the new constitution recognises same sex relationships. |

We have a President who is trying to self succeed himself through a process which amount to a political coup in his own political party. In a democracy nobody should think that he/she has to be president or there will be no Nigeria. I have to make this point because a Minister had warned that if Goodluck Jonathan does not emerge as President there will be crisis in Nigeria, so if this is the case what is the point of conducting elections?” - M. D. Yusuf, former IG of Police and Presidential candidate |

Christian woman faces death for blasphemy STR / AP https://msnbcmedia.msn.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/101129_pakistan_christian_woman.nv_nws.jpg Pakistani Christian woman Asia Bibi seen at a prison in Sheikhupura near Lahore, Pakistan on Nov. 20. By NBC's Carol Grisanti and Fakhar ur Rehman ITTAN WALLI, Pakistan – In early November, in the dusty city of Sheikhupura in Pakistan’s heartland, Asia Bibi, an illiterate Christian woman and mother of five, was sentenced to death by hanging under the country’s blasphemy laws. Her crime? She allegedly insulted the Prophet Muhammad. Almost immediately, the death sentence unleashed international condemnation, and put pressure on Pakistan’s government to overturn the verdict and amend the country’s blasphemy laws – a holdover from a 19th century penal code designed to protect minority religious sects during British colonial times. The law was radicalized during the 1980’s under the military dictatorship of General Zia ul Haq. He imposed life sentences, even death, for blasphemy to appease the mullahs and legitimize his grip on power. Pope Benedict XVI appealed for clemency but hard-line Islamic groups have threatened civil war if the government pardons Bibi or attempts to amend the law. Bibi’s husband, 48-year-old Ashiq Masih, is desperate, convinced radical Islamic groups are aiming to kill the family. He has gone into hiding, along with his children, sheltered inside a Christian colony in an outlying district of Sheikhupura. Masih insists his wife was framed, a victim of old score-settling in their village of Ittan Walli, where his family was just one of two Christian families. http://worldblog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/11/29/5543912-christian-woman-faces-death-for-blasphemy |

Kenny Ogungbe goes back to radio showbizflair Gbenga Bada biso225@yahoo.com, 08028599392, 11.26.2010 Sunday, November 28, 2010 The frontman at Kennis Music and Kennis Channel, Kenny 'Keke' Ogungbe is currently making a return to his days on radio. Not as a presenter though. Kenny's new project is to oversee a new radio station reportedly owned by a frontline politician in Ogun State. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/nov/28/215.html Sources say he has been saddled with the responsibility of making the newly created radio station competitive. To be known as Rainbow FM, Kenny and his crew are said to have currently concluded plans for the test-transmission which, sources say, would have the rare honour of a few advert slots. The bulky showbiz personality is said to have been guaranteed a handsome reward for his services. A Movie from M.I? Not exactly. After several weeks of suspense caused by the perception that popular rapper, M.I's was quitting music for Nollywood, the dark-skinned dude, whose real name is Jude Abaga, would be releasing his new compilation. Titled M.I 2 (The Movie), the occasion held at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, drew a large turnout of showbiz personalities amongst other individuals eager to catch a glimpse of it last Thursday. Guests who thought the rapper was quitting the music for an acting career were pleasantly surprised as it turned out the title of the work was misleading. Skuki's Management Angry With DJ Zeez Following statements by Daphella Entertainment denouncing claim that hip hop group, Skuki, are lazy, the management of the record company is unhappy with musician, DJ Zeez. This according to the management is because the dreadlocked singer has been performing the group's hit song at shows without considering the adverse effects it's having on the singers' fortune. "One of the reasons we felt Kiss Entertainment wasn't doing enough for Skuki was that we had severally complained to Howie T to stop DJ Zeez from performing Skuki's hit song Banger at shows because the song is owned by the musicians and they only featured DJ Zeez on it. DJ Zeez has continued performing the song and has literarily stamped his identity on the song. He had performed the song at an event where Skuki was also billed to perform. The management, ShowbizFlair further gathered, has not been finding it funny with DJ Zeez as they intend to take steps to refrain him from performing the song at public functions except with the permission of Skuki's managers. |
Funke and I are back together–Saidi Balogun By SAMUEL OLATUNJI Sunday, November 28, 2010 Just before Funke Adesiyan’s interview in last week paper hit newsstand, she called us to say she has made up with Saidi Balogun. She wanted us to pull the interview but it was a little too late. She extol the good virtues of Saidi and told us he’s a good man. she wanted another interview but we declined insisting on speaking with Saidi. he called us and the conversation below ensued. its a ‘part two’ of a romantic comedy. [img]http://odili.net/news/source/2010/nov/28/sun/saidi-balogun[1].gif[/img] Saidi Balogun http://odili.net/news/source/2010/nov/28/516.html When are you releasing Eti Keta? Eti Keta will be showing first at cinemas across Nigeria and afterwards, it will be released on CD. When will it go to the cinemas and which cinemas ? I won’t mention names of cinemas but all standard cinemas will be featuring it because Eti Keta is a standard movie. It will start showing from December. We are concluding the arrangements. Have you finished shooting Eti Keta? Totally. We are done, we are happy with it now. Do you think this film is better than ModupeTemi? Yes, every good producer aims higher. Look at the people making cars, they give you a better model as they grow. This is better than Modupe Temi or Gbogbo Ere. So what makes it different from the other two? The quality of the film is good and it’s standard. The storyline is for today’s people. There are certain things you do and you may not know it’s not good or you may think you are doing it for revenge or anything. That is not good. You must watch things you do, things you say, how, when, and where so that people don’t misquote you. The good and bad things the third party must not know. So what is the storyline of Eti Keta? You should watch it. Who are the guys in Eti Keta? A lot of guys and gals including Kate Henshaw-Nuttal, Eniola Olaniyan, Jide Kosoko, Baba Wande, Sunkanmi Omobolanle, myself, Sola Kosoko, Deji, Safi who sang love me jeje love me tender, Kunle Aford, Femi Ogedengbe, and Kola Olaiya. It was directed by Daniel Ademinokan and myself . Funke Adeshiyan is there too and she played the lead role. Can we confidently say this is the biggest film ever? I will say yes and no. Yes, in the sense that for now it’s my biggest. The one I’m going to do after this will be bigger and it’s going to be premiered in the UK. In Dublin, the premiering is in January. We’re planning to premiere it in the UK in December too and in the US in February. Have you spoken to the cinemas and have they agreed to run it? They will love it by the standard of what they’ve watched. If you saw the promo, you will know what we are talking about. It’s now left for the audience to watch and accept it but as for professionalism, a lot of producers have watched it and told me “you’ve done a fantastic job”. After Eti Keta, what’s next? I have a lot of projects lined-up. After Eti Keta we have One Cap, You and I, and The Rider . I’m going to work harder ,because Remi Adikwu said “my boy if you want to do things, do it better than this because this is of high quality”. I’m a creative person, so I have too many things on my neck now, entertainment wise to be distracted, because we have to recoup all the money we spent. Are you still singing? I’m an entertainer, why not? Do you have money to spray here, and I will start singing for you, (laughs). Would you release Dupe Temi and Gbogbo Ere into the market? |

The acclaimed cinematographer joins Caroline Deeds and Laurie McDowells who have been signed on as director and editor respectively. http://odili.net/news/source/2010/nov/28/800.html THE PUNCH gathered exclusively that the film project will document the inspiring life story of Kanu's evolution through the years into one of the most iconic footballers to have come out of Africa. Scenes will be shot in cities scattered across five different countries including, of course, Nigeria where it all started, The Netherlands where he achieved glory with Ajax Amsterdam, Italy where he played for Inter Milan, England where he was a pivotal player for Arsenal FC and later, Portsmouth and the USA where his heart ailment was treated. |
