The lifecycle of a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) cylinder is at least 15 years. After this period, cylinders must be inspected, replaced, or removed to ensure safety and optimal performance. This standard is consistent worldwide, reflecting a commitment to safe and sustainable energy solutions.
Global CNG Policies and Success Stories:
• India: The Indian government has actively promoted the adoption of CNG, especially in public transportation. Cities like Delhi have mandated using CNG for buses and auto-rickshaws, significantly reducing air pollution and enhancing public health. As of 2024, India plans to establish 20,000 CNG stations by 2030 to support its growing fleet of gas-based vehicles, reinforcing its commitment to cleaner fuel.
• Malaysia: Malaysia’s government has promoted CNG usage among taxicabs and airport limousines since the late 1990s. With the removal of fuel subsidies beginning in 2008, the country saw a 500% increase in new CNG cylinder installations, especially among private vehicle owners. Recently, Malaysia launched a program to recall and replace all cylinders installed 15 years ago, providing free replacement to ensure continued safety and compliance.
• Canada: Enbridge Gas Distribution, Canada's largest natural gas distribution company, operates one of North America’s largest natural gas vehicle fleets, with over 675 natural gas vehicles. This initiative has reduced fuel costs and aligns with corporate social responsibility goals, setting a standard for CNG fleet adoption.
• Germany: The Volkswagen Group, in collaboration with industrial partners, has been promoting CNG as part of a national strategy to achieve 1 million CNG vehicles on German roads by 2025. This commitment represents a significant investment in alternative fuels and highlights the role of public-private partnerships in advancing sustainable fuel options.
How Does This Align with Nigeria’s CNG Policy?
In Nigeria, the PCNGI initiative actively tracks all vehicles converted to CNG, creating a comprehensive safety network for cylinder monitoring. A Nigerian Gas Vehicle Monitoring System is in development, which will simplify the process for vehicle owners to bring in hybrid or fully converted cars when cylinder replacements are due. This way, authorised technicians can safely replace or remove your cylinders after 15 years.
Should You Worry?
No need! The savings you’ll gain from using CNG will far outweigh the lifespan of the cylinder, offering peace of mind and economic benefits. Most drivers save substantially over time with CNG, covering both fuel costs and maintenance savings.
Fuel Savings: With petrol and diesel prices exceeding 1,000 naira per litre, switching to CNG—currently priced at 230 naira per litre—provides significant cost savings for you. And remember, a litre of CNG equates to multiple litres of petrol, enhancing these savings even further.
FACT OF THE DAY: The PCNGi is on track to deliver 100,000 CNG conversion kits by the end of this year, with about half of this target already installed and more conversions happening daily. Their near-term goal is to convert at least 1 million vehicles by 2027, ensuring the infrastructure and resources are in place to support the demand.
Who is Switching?
• Transporters are converting to CNG to benefit from reduced costs.
• Major Nigerian manufacturers are converting trucks and factory operations to CNG, embracing cleaner and cost-effective fuel solutions.
• Rideshare drivers (such as Uber) who have converted are already making up to 5x profits due to lower fuel costs.
hisexcellency34: A complex investigation by the United Kingdom (UK) police has led to four Nigerians being sentenced for violent disorder following an incident in Leicester in November 2021.
The fight, which broke out during the early hours of Thursday 4 November 2021, involved weapons being used including knives and a baseball bat. A man, who was 18 at the time, suffered stab wound injuries in the incident requiring hospital treatment.
After the suspects left the scene, police enquiries carried out over the following few months included CCTV analysis, phone work and public appeals which led to identifications being made.
Thursday 14 November, following a full investigation and a six-week trial, which concluded last month (October), four people were sentenced in connection with the incident. The defendants were all students at De Montfort University in Leicester at the time of the incident:
Destiny Ojo, 21, of Warland Road, Plumstead, London, was sentenced to seven years imprisonment after being found guilty of violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm and committing grievous bodily harm with intent
Habib Lawal, 21, of Lumley Close, Bexley, London, was sentenced to five years imprisonment after being found guilty of violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm and committing grievous bodily harm with intent
Ridwanulahi Raheem, 21, of George Mathers Road, Lambeth, London, was sentenced to three years imprisonment after being found guilty of violent disorder and possession of a bladed article
Joshua Davies-Ero, 21, of Springfield Road, Bexley, London, was sentenced to two years imprisonment after being found guilty of violent disorder
A fifth defendant, Justin Asamoah, 22, of Rawnsley Avenue, Merton has previously pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article. He is due to be sentenced on Friday (22 November).
The incident happened at around 3am on Thursday 4 November 2021. Ojo, Lawal, Raheem and Davies-Ero had been out together in Leicester city centre when they came across another group.
A verbal altercation took place between the groups in New Park Street in Leicester city centre, before a large fight broke out between the men. Other members of the public were in the area.
Footage showed the four defendants arming themselves with weapons. Davies-Ero was seen to be carrying a crutch, Ojo was seen with a baseball bat and Lawal was carrying what was believed to be a knife. Raheem was also later seen carrying a large knife.
The fight continued in the area leading to another male who was in the other group, and had been involved in the fighting, being thrown to the ground and attacked. The victim suffered four stab wounds to his body.
Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service attended the scene where he was taken to hospital for treatment before later being discharged.
Detective Constable Sean Downey said: “This incident highlights the serious danger of violent disorder. It is extremely fortunate that further injury was not caused to the people involved or to other members of the public who witnessed the incident. This could have been a very different investigation.
“Following the disorder, a full investigation took place with suspects being identified at different stages through CCTV enquiries, phone work and public appeals. Further investigative work then led to the charges being made.
“Thank you to everyone who has assisted us throughout this investigation and provided information. As a force, our priority is to keep the public safe. We will not tolerate violent disorder in our communities and will take action against those who are responsible for it.” https://thescrutinyng.com/2024/11/19/leicester-uk-court-jails-four-nigerian-students/
These are British-Nigerian boys [born and raised in the United Kingdom] who may have NEVER stepped foot on Nigerian soil in their lives and there are thousands of them like that in the United States and the United Kingdom. I have a 47-year-old Nigerian-American female friend [who has an African-American mother and a Nigerian-American father and she has never stepped foot on Nigerian soil.
Just like Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale [who had converted to extremist Islam in England and engaged in the terror attacks that led to the brutal stabbing and death of a British Army soldier, Fusilier Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, on the afternoon of 22 May 2013], those two who are now serving time in jail had NEVER been to Nigeria as of the time they committed those crimes in broad daylight.
RealityOfReason: What's this sh!!t I just read? Are you mentally balanced at all? Like you are doing d!CK measuring with who exactly? This is not the first time yoruba news from Brazil and Cuba, both having yoruboid affiliations, were brought to nairaland so what's the heck? You can't even see yorubas claiming Chidinma like it's a trophy. Even though, she is partly yoruba, no one care because we aren't insecure and we are not the targets of south African madness
That girl is NOT partly Yoruba... Take NOTE of this fact.
Her father is a full-blooded Ibo from Enugu State and her mother is ORIGINALLY from Mozambique and both of her parents were indicted in the final report of South African Home Affairs Department and the South African Parliament in August 2024 for the IDENTITY Card theft fraud which was facilitated by 3 corrupt South African Home Affairs Department officials. One of them is dead, so only 2 are alive. This is the reason why the citizenship of her father and mother were revoked in August 2024 and Chidimma herself has been stripped of the illegally acquired South African citizenship. Her mother even had multiple passports with different names on them. All these facts are clearly stated in the August 22 2024 viral YouTube video of the SA Home Affairs hearing at the SA Parliament.
That girl was NOT EVEN born in the hospital [Chris Hani Hopital in Soweto] in 2001 she has been telling the media in South Africa and Nigeria. Her father and mother were clearly very dubious in allowing this lie to go on and it is without a shadow of doubt that Chidimma knows already about all these fake life in her family.
The Adetshina name is a forged name and was used by her entire family. It is also NOT true that she was married to an Itsekiri guy who she is now divorced from because Itsekiris DO NOT use that name Adetshina. The real family name is Onwe. That family should be grateful to the Nigerian Federal Government for accepting them and NOT handing them over to the Interpol for prosecution after running away from justice.
That girl called Chidimma herself admited herself that she is an Ibo in a Nigerian media interview that went viral online just after winning the sham beauty pageant organized by Guy Murray Bruce. Nigeria has NO right

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Tastes Cultivated Meat
December 7, 2020: As part of a national policy plan to establish Israel as an alternative protein leader, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is the first head of state to taste meat cultivated outside of a cow.
Positioning the nation at the forefront of a global alternative protein ecosystem, Israel’s prime minister visited Aleph Farms, an Israeli cultivated meat company headquartered in Rehovot, and tried out its cultivated steak. The company is a pioneer in growing real meat directly from cow cells under controlled conditions, using a fraction of the resources required for raising an entire animal for meat and without antibiotics. During a global “space race” to sustainably produce and supply high-quality meat and secure a stable food channel to the growing population, this move is concurrently slated to place alternative protein production as a central economic growth engine for Israel.
During the visit, the Prime Minister has tasted cultivated steak alongside The Good Food Institute Israel’s Managing Director Nir Goldstein. Prior to the tasting meal, the Prime Minister accompanied by the government's animal rights advisor, Tal Gilboa, toured the facilities, receiving an overview on the production process and about the company's distinct sustainability vision. The visit included a presentation by Goldstein and Aleph Farms’ Co-Founder and CEO Didier Toubia, who shared the organization’s National Policy Plan – a detailed roadmap for making Israel the global alternative protein leader.
“It's delicious and guilt-free, I can’t taste the difference,” declares Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel. “I have directed the State Secretary Tzahi Braverman to appoint a coordinator to serve these industries in order to connect and oversee all the stakeholders operating in this field. Israel will become a powerhouse for alternative meat and alternative protein.”

jospepper: Donald Trump has been reelected to the White House as a convicted felon who is awaiting sentencing in his hush money case in New York and still working to stave off prosecution in other state and federal cases.
It’s an extraordinarily unique position for him to be in: Never before has a criminal defendant been elected to the nation’s highest office, just as an ex-president had never been criminally charged until last year.
Here’s what to know about the web of legal cases surrounding him
1. New York Hush Money Case
What Happened: Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records over a payment to Stormy Daniels, an adult-film actress who claims they had an affair (Trump denies it). He’s supposed to be sentenced on November 26.
The Twist: The judge is considering dropping the conviction entirely due to a Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity. If the conviction stands, Trump’s team plans to appeal, which could delay any sentence.
2. Federal Election Interference Case (Washington, D.C.)
The Charges: This case, led by Special Counsel Jack Smith, accuses Trump of trying to overturn the 2020 election results. Trump argues he should have presidential immunity.
The Future: Trump has openly said he’d fire Smith if reelected, potentially ending this case. But for now, a judge is deciding how much immunity, if any, Trump has.
3. Classified Documents Case (Florida)
The Details: Trump is charged with taking classified documents when he left office and not returning them. Judge Cannon dismissed the case on a technicality, saying Smith’s appointment as Special Counsel might not be valid.
What’s Next: Prosecutors are appealing this dismissal, and if Trump does end up back in office, he may try to eliminate this case too.
4. Georgia Election Interference Case
The Accusation: In Georgia, Trump is charged under the state’s RICO Act for trying to meddle in the 2020 election results.
The Complication: District Attorney Fani Willis’s role is under review due to a past relationship with another prosecutor. If she’s disqualified, it’s not clear if anyone else would pick up the case. Trump’s team could argue that prosecuting a sitting president in state court is unconstitutional.
5. E. Jean Carroll Defamation Cases
Background: Carroll, a former columnist, sued Trump after he denied her accusations of sexual assault. Two juries sided with her, awarding damages totaling $88 million.
Update: Trump is appealing the first verdict, and a federal court’s decision is still pending.
6. New York Civil Fraud Case
The Issue: The New York Attorney General claims Trump and his company exaggerated asset values to secure loans and better insurance rates. He’s been ordered to pay around $454 million.
Current Status: Trump is appealing, and the court recently considered lowering the fine. We’re awaiting their decision, which he could further appeal if needed.
7. Civil Suits Related to January 6
What It’s About: Trump also faces civil lawsuits for his alleged role in the Capitol attack. These suits argue he incited the event, causing damages.
Ongoing: Supreme Court precedent allows civil lawsuits against a sitting president, so these cases are likely to continue if Trump takes office.
Botragelad: TEHRAN: Iran's currency, the rial, fell on Wednesday to an all-time low as former President Donald Trump was on the verge of clinching the US presidency again.
The rial traded at 703,000 rials to the dollar. In 2015, at the time of Iran's nuclear deal with world powers, it was at 32,000 to $1. On July 30, the day that Iran's reformist President Masoud Pezeshkian was sworn in and started his term, the rate was 584,000 to $1.
Trump unilaterally withdrew America from the accord in 2018, sparking years of tensions between the countries that persist today.
The slide comes as Iran's economy has struggled for years under crippling international sanctions over its rapidly advancing nuclear program, which now enriches uranium at near weapons-grade levels. Pezeshkian, elected after a helicopter crash killed hard-line President Ebrahim Raisi in May, came to power on a promise to reach a deal to ease Western sanctions.
However, Iran's government has for weeks been trying to downplay the effect on Tehran of whoever won Tuesday's election in the United States. That stance continued on Wednesday with a brief comment from Fatemeh Mohajerani, a spokeswoman for Pezeshkian's administration.
"The election of the US president doesn't have anything specifically to do with us," she said. "The major policies of America and the Islamic Republic are fixed, and they won't heavily change by people replacing others. We have already made necessary preparations in advance."
But tensions remain high between the nations, 45 years after the 1979 US embassy takeover and 444-day hostage crisis that followed. Iran remains locked in the Mideast wars roiling the region, with its allies battered - militant groups and fighters of its self-described "Axis of Resistance," including the militant Palestinian Hamas, lebanon's Hezbollah and Yemen's Houthi rebels.
Israel is pressing its war in the Gaza Strip targeting Hamas and its invasion of Lebanon amid devastating attacks against Hezbollah. At the same time, Iran still appears to be assessing damage from Israel's strikes on the Islamic Republic on October 26 in response to two Iranian ballistic missile attacks. Iran has threatened to retaliate against Israel - where US troops now man a missile defense battery.

🇺🇸 Donald Trump pledged on Saturday to punish and make it too costly for countries to shift away from using the US dollar, adding a new pillar to his tariff platform.
“You leave the dollar and you’re not doing business with the United States because we are going to put a 100% tariff on your goods,” the Republican presidential nominee said at a rally in the battleground state of Wisconsin.
The statement follows months of discussions between Trump and his economic advisers on ways to penalize allies or adversaries who seek active ways to engage in bilateral trade in currencies other than the dollar.
Options have included export controls, currency manipulation charges and tariffs, people familiar with the matter have previously told Bloomberg News.
Trump, who has long embraced protectionist trade policies, said the dollar has been “under major siege” for eight years. China, India, Brazil, Russia and South Africa discussed de-dollarization at a summit last year. By contrast, Trump wants the dollar to remain the world’s reserve currency, a pledge he renewed at Saturday’s rally.

This notable divestment signifies a strategic shift for Shell, as it aligns with the company's intention to withdraw from onshore oil production in the Niger Delta.
The Renaissance consortium, a powerhouse comprising ND Western, Aradel Energy, First E&P, Waltersmith – all prominent local oil exploration and production companies – and the Swiss-based trading and investment company Petrolin, secured the deal. This acquisition underscores a changing landscape in Nigeria's energy sector as Western companies, including Shell, strategically withdraw from onshore operations to focus on more lucrative offshore ventures.
The transaction, subject to approval by the Nigerian government, involves the transfer of responsibilities for dealing with spills, theft, and sabotage to the Renaissance consortium. Shell's exit has prompted calls for accountability, with Nnimmo Bassey, Executive Director of the Health of Mother Earth Foundation, insisting that Shell must take full responsibility for the environmental impact caused during its tenure.
The five key figures leading the Renaissance consortium are notable players in the Nigerian energy scene:
1. Adegbite Falade
The driving force behind the Renaissance Consortium's landmark acquisition is Adegbite Falade, the Chief Executive Officer of Niger Delta Exploration & Production (NDEP). A distinguished individual with a First Class B.Sc. in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the University of Ibadan and an MBA from Warwick Business School, Falade brings over 14 years of senior executive experience in the oil, gas, power, and services sectors to the consortium.
Having previously served as the Managing Director and Group COO at OilServ Group in Port Harcourt, Falade's expertise extends across engineering, operations, project execution, commercial endeavors, client and stakeholder management, as well as strategy and enterprise development. His strategic leadership and industry acumen position him as a key player in steering the Renaissance Consortium toward a prosperous future

This arrangement, exclusive to Free Zones, is in contrast to Mainland companies, where foreign ownership is often capped at 49%, with the remaining 51% required to be held by a UAE national. Free Zones empower foreign investors by providing them with complete autonomy over their businesses, making it an ideal structure for those seeking full control.
Key Advantages of Choosing a Dubai Free Zone for Business Setup
A) No Local Sponsorship Needed: Free Zones remove the requirement for a UAE national as a local sponsor, allowing foreign investors to retain full ownership. 3. Prepare Necessary Documentation Gather documents including passport copies, visa copies, and a detailed business plan, as these are typically required for approval.
4. Obtain Initial Approval Submit your documents to the Free Zone authority, which will review your application and grant initial approval.
5. Lease Office Space Rent office space within the Free Zone as required. Some Free Zones offer virtual offices or flexi-desk options for companies that don’t need full-time premises.
6. Obtain Licenses and Permits Apply for the necessary licenses based on your business activity, such as a trade, industrial, or professional license.
7. Open a Corporate Bank Account Set up a corporate bank account in the UAE to manage financial transactions. This step often requires proof of your Free Zone license and other documents.
Dubai’s Free Zones offer unmatched advantages for foreign investors looking for complete ownership, strategic location, and a supportive business environment. FreeStuffsNG: In 2005, at the age of 25, she joined the Conservative Party, citing Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher and (perhaps more surprisingly) Airey Neave – who was assassinated by the INLA in 1979 – among her political heroes.
She stood unsuccessfully for the Labour-held Dulwich and West Norwood constituency in the 2005 general election but gained election to Westminster in the safe Tory seat of Saffron Walden in 2017.
Bobodee09: The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has suggested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was voted in 2023 because he is a Yoruba man The former Anambra state governor asked if there is a market where Yoruba people buy things at a cheaper rate now Nigerians have registered their displeasure over Obi’s comment with many describing it as unpresidential.
Obi suggested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was voted into office because he is a Yoruba man in the 2023 general election.
Peter Obi under fire over controversial "It's our turn" comment
He asked if there is a market where Yoruba people buy things at a cheaper rate now when the prices of things have gone up.
Obi stated this during an interview on The Honest Bunch with Nedu and his crew.
“Let’s talk about what is happening today, rice is N100,000 and we are not even sure where we are gonna be with this situation.
“It is our turn, he is a Yoruba man. Ask the people in Ogun here, is there a plan where you people buy bread cheaper? So I can follow you this night and buy one.”
Peter Obi under fire over “It’s our turn” comment @napoleon2002
What has Yoruba man got to do with this? Igbo man mentality.
@Mayordavid_9
This coming from a presidential aspirant shows how so tribalistic this man is. If this was coming from an ordinary person I would overlook… but Peter Obi saying this after majority of Yoruba people voted for him in Lagos and Oyo. Shame on him.
@Laykay0808
This is a low for a presidential aspirant to talk this way. Is he not aware Yorubas votes and others made him win in Lagos?
@Horlartunjee1
He can make his point without mentioning that “ he is Yoruba.” Many Yorubas supported and voted for him.
@JubaOluwaseun This man is Nigeria’s number one tribalistic fraud. The Yoruba voted for him en masse, across Lagos, Ekiti, Ogun, and Osun. Even in Kwara, the Yoruba voted for this fraudulent individual. Now, compare this to what Tinubu achieved in his region.
@Ohiss_ This man keeps making careless insensitive statements to please the media and the mobs.
@adex_smithjr There’s no way people think this guy is a presidential material. A tribal bigot is what he is, and he’ll never smell that.
otipoju: Igbos really provoke the Yoruba this past few years with the taunting and mocking about Lagos being a "no man's land" and them Igbos being the developers of Lagos...a whole Lagos wen don dey run International trade since 16th Century before the creation of Nigeria sef.
The Yorubas are usually very very accomodating until you take their niceness for stupidity, then they can be very calculated, detailed, creative, extreme and unforgiving in their response when their patience has run out.
From what i am seeing, e be like sey dem don do meeting and entered a covenant to clip Igbo wings and rid them of any undue privileges or advantages in the west at all levels using legislations and executive fiat.
I am sure that the mindset is that, they will stop accepting what Igbos do not and will never permit in their eastern states and cities.
Well sha last last all na vanity....everything begins and ends here on earth.
Nota Bene. I be Yoruba man so I do know how we think. The "Oju orun to eiye fo" approach to peaceful coexistence should never be taken for granted or it will eventually turn to " Ila kii ga ju oni ire lo".
From what i see, the decisions have been made and its enforcement has begun from the highest levels and levers of power and it will trickle down and permeate all spheres of the social, economic and political landscape.
It is well. Ire ooo. If only we could all live in peace and harmony together, life for sweet.
FactsZoneAfrica: China has become one of the most influential foreign investors in Africa, playing a vital role in developing infrastructure across the continent. From roads to railways, airports, and ports, Chinese-funded projects are transforming Africa's infrastructure landscape, helping to bridge the development gap. China's involvement in Africa is fueled by government loans and FDI, which provide African countries with the financial support they need to take on ambitious projects.
One critical, and sometimes controversial, aspect of Chinese investments in Africa is the migration component. Many Chinese companies operating in Africa bring their own workforce to manage and execute projects. From engineers to technicians, Chinese experts are often deployed to oversee the operations, typically resulting in a workforce dominated by Chinese nationals rather than local employees. This migration is part of the contractual agreements that China holds with many African governments, as Chinese companies aim to ensure projects are completed to their standards.
Americans will head to the polls soon to elect the next US president. The vote will be closely watched around the world.
They will also be voting for members of Congress, who play a key part in passing laws that can have a profound effect on American life.
When is the US presidential election? The 2024 election is on Tuesday, 5 November 2024. The winner will serve a term of four years in the White House, starting in January 2025.
The president has the power to pass some laws on their own but mostly he or she must work with Congress to pass legislation.
On the world stage, the US leader has considerable freedom to represent the country abroad and to conduct foreign policy.
Who are the candidates and how are they nominated? The two main parties nominate a presidential candidate by holding a series of votes called state primaries and caucuses, where people choose who they want to lead the party in a general election.
In the Republican Party, former president Donald Trump won his party's support with a massive lead over his rivals. He became the official Republican nominee at a party convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Trump chose Ohio senator JD Vance to be his vice-presidential running mate.
For the Democrats, Vice-President Kamala Harris joined the race after President Joe Biden dropped out and no other Democrats stood against her. Her running mate is Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
There are also some independent candidates running for president.
One of the most prominent was Robert F Kennedy Jr, nephew to former president John F Kennedy, but he suspended his campaign in late August and has endorsed Trump.
What do Democrats and Republicans stand for? The Democrats are the liberal political party, with an agenda defined largely by its push for civil rights, a broad social safety net and measures to address climate change.
The Republicans are the conservative political party in the US. Also known as the GOP, or the Grand Old Party, it has stood for lower taxes, shrinking the size of the government, gun rights and tighter restrictions on immigration and abortion.
How does the US presidential election work? The winner is not the person who gets the most votes across the country. Instead, both candidates compete to win contests held across the 50 states.
Each state has a certain number of so-called electoral college votes partly based on population. There are a total of 538 up for grabs, and the winner is the candidate that wins 270 or more.
All but two states have a winner-takes-all rule, so whichever candidate wins the highest number of votes is awarded all of the state's electoral college votes.
Most states lean heavily towards one party or the other, so the focus is usually on a dozen or so states where either of them could win. These are known as the battleground or swing states.
It is possible for a candidate to win the most votes nationally - like Hillary Clinton did in 2016 - but still be defeated by the electoral college.
Who can vote in the US presidential election? Most US citizens who are aged 18 or over are eligible to vote in the presidential election.
Every state except North Dakota requires people to register before they can vote.
Each state has its own voter registration process and deadline.
Who else is being elected in November? All of the attention will be on who wins the presidency, but voters will also be choosing new members of Congress - where laws are passed - when they fill in their ballots.
Congress consists of the House of Representatives, where all 435 seats are up for election, and the Senate, where 34 seats are being contested.
Republicans currently control the House, which initiates spending plans. Democrats are in charge of the Senate, which votes on key appointments in government.
These two chambers pass laws and can act as a check on White House plans if the controlling party in either chamber disagrees with the president.
When will we know who has won the election? Usually the winner is declared on the night of the election, but in 2020 it took a few days to count all the votes.
The period after the election is known as the transition, if there is a change of president.
This gives the new administration time to appoint cabinet ministers and make plans for the new term.
The president is officially sworn into office in January in a ceremony known as the inauguration, held on the steps of the Capitol building in Washington DC. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67285325
