When you move out
And it dawns on you that there's no mummy to feed you
No daddy to pay rent
When you realise that its you against the world
Then your brain will work better.

My older brothers moved back to the 'Comfort Zone' (house) after NYSC and that to me was not cool at all, cos you get to a stage in life when a man has to fend for himself and pull himself up by his bootstraps.

We usually have a meeting at the beginning of each year, and one year (was in 300L then) I told them all that unlike them, I will not be returning to the house after NYSC. Of course it was a heated discussion, but I made my point that it makes little sense to be put through school and continue to chop mummy food afterwards without contributing a dime.

Thanks to God's faithfulness, I kept my word! And that singular fact has kept me ahead. I got married at 28 when brothers as old as 33 were still unmarried. My parents' respect for me went through the roof. I sent them monthly stipends, not because they needed it, but because it was the thing to do. I may be the 9th child out of 11, but my early independence has stood me out.

The latest time to leave home is for NYSC (if you are in naija). That is, as you are leaving for NYSC, say your final goodbyes, and let them know that any other time you come to the house, you are just visiting.

I know this will offend many folks, but how can someone (guys mostly) finish service and return back home, to continue eating mummy's food? It may not be too bad if you are contributing to the bottom line ie home upkeep but most guys that can want to live on their own anyway.

More coming tomorrow.

What is Jonathan waiting for? If he thinks that standing by while people are being killed will get him the Presidency, if he thinks that taking action will rock the boat, if he thinks that standing on the side of justice is not expedient, then he is not worthy of being my President!

I am from Jos & we know d truth dat others outside Plateau do not know. In d last village dat was attacked prior 2 dis, a Special Task Force ID & bank passbook belongin to 1 Abdullahi Muhammed were found at d crime scene. D commander (Hassan Umaru) was annoyed dat it was made public without confirmation of its genuineness from him 1st. Later d 5 soldiers stationed close 2 d village 2 keep watch (includin d 1 whose ID was found) were arrested (all muslims). While we knew it was 4 complicity in d attack, d commander said it was 4 negligence of duty. Imagine! Was it negligence dat led 2 an ID being at d crime scene?
Investigations revealed a deposit of N800,000 in2 d accounts of each of dis 5 soldiers.
Now 2 other villages hav bin attacked wit eye witnesses saying armed men in military uniforms, conveyed in hillux vans(official vehicles of d STF) carried out both attacks. But imagine wat d STF commander is saying. Over 2000 women protested against d soldiers, burnin their tents & dismantling their formations. It makes no sense keepin dis soldiers & payin dem while dey attack u at nite. Accept it or not, Jihadists(STF) led by Hassan Umaru are on a sponsored mission in Jos. For every attack on Christian communities, dey are well rewarded. Who is deceivin who?

8 killed in Jos, 7 burnt to death in Benin City luxury bus fire
News Jan 25, 2011 By Taye Obateru &Austin Ogwuda
Jos — Several families in Jos, the Plateau State capital and Benin City in Edo State were thrown into mourning on Sunday as 15 people were killed in separate incidents.

In Jos, eight people were killed and many others injured at two villages some 25 kilometres from Jos, when armed men, some of them allegedly in military uniform, attacked them.

The incident in Benin City involved an accident which claimed seven lives when a luxury bus went up in flames on Asaba/Benin highway.

A nursing mother and her three-month-old daughter were among those killed during the attack on Farin Lamba in Jos South Local Government Area and Haman in Barakin-Ladi Local Government Area when they came under attack by gunmen who struck almost simultaneously.

The attackers were said to have struck in each of the villages at about 9 p.m. on Sunday, gunning down three members of the vigilante group at Farin Lamba village before unleashing terror on residents, shooting, cutting and torching their houses and food barns.

One of the vigilante members who escaped with injuries said some of the attackers wore bullet proof vests similar to those used by members of the Special Task Force, adding that they saw a Hilux van similar to the ones used by the task force some distance away.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Abdulrahman Akano, who confirmed the attack and the killings in a statement said the allegation that those who carried out the attacks were in military uniform was yet to be ascertained.

The killings sparked off demonstration by hundreds of women in Jos South Local Government Area, denouncing the alleged involvement of military men in the attack.

The women rained abuses on men of the special task force and dismantled some of their tents with some of them getting shot in the ensuing commotion.

Reacting to the allegation against his men, Commander of the Special Task Force, Brigadier General Hassan Umoru, doubted if any of his men would participate in any attack against the people they were out to secure and urged the people to look out for identification and other particulars to substantiate any such allegation.

7 roasted in Benin

The auto accident that occurred by Ubulu-Okiti junction at about 5 p.m. on Sunday involved a luxury bus conveying 77 passengers. Unfortunately, seven of the passengers were burnt to death while others were rushed to the hospital.

Our reporter gathered that an explosion occurred when a jerry can containing fuel kept beside the engine of the bus got overheated.
The bus with number plate CG 280 BEN was said to have been hired from a church based in Benin City in Edo and took off to Onitsha in Anambra State where the occupants of the bus attended a burial ceremony of their friend.

Men of the Federal Road Safety Commission carried out the rescue operation and dumped the remains of the burnt victims at an hospital at Ubulu- Okiti including the injured ones.

Similar accidents had taken place on the same highway Umuhu town near Umunede and Asaba burning several persons to death.

As at today, the cheapest network for me is MTN! Surprised? I will prove it.

My wife and I live in different cities and I call her at least 20mins everyday, which is N240 @ N12 per min.

Now, with her number as my magic number, I call her for FREE 24/7 and guess what? Its FREE when she calls me too. And I also call five local numbers (4 MTN) and 1 intl at N12 per min. This has cut my phone bill by almost 60%!!!

However, I get to pay N250 monthly, but its still a great offer cos Etisalat's N20 x 30 days = N600 monthly. Airtel's extra N24 x 30days = N720  monthly.

Therefore MTN works for me!!!

Seems you married your wife for all the wrong reasons, if you've chosen to ask for advice concerning the issues you've raised.

You should be discussing this with your wife, and base your decision on what she comes up with.
If I wanted to marry for papers, I had many options, plenty! And then I also have more than enough to apply for a visa on my own. I married my wife because she is the best woman in the world and she is customized for me!

My father-in-law is a Nigerian also; just that he has been in US for more of his life. And I feel that so long as I have a FIL thats alive, then I should meet him, though I already have his blessings. And it will gladden my wife so much to see her father again (not seen him for almost 15 years). So I want to give her that - when a woman is good, you feel buying the world for her is not even enough!

My FIL is not the type of guy that knows whats the latest in visa application. Thats why am here to find out the best part to tow given the circumstances.

angelo5uk:
My broda no mind all this bad belle people, we nigerians are not always happy when we see that our own broda is progressing, is there anything worng if he wants to visit his father inlaw in usa,
the best way is immigration for your wife just as some sugested and since shes married your application can be filled with hers also, tho the time duration may be very long but i heard its not that long anymo, that u can finish everything in a year depending on how fast u urself are, make enquires from other better sources, to confirm, the time duration has been shortened,
another good way is for u and your wife to file in for permanent resisdence, then while waiting for the application to be completed,
theres one oda visa that they do issue while u are waiting for your permanent residence application to be complteted, that one is also ok, its ussually fr those who has filled thier permanent residence application but cants wait , so they will issue them a visa to travell to the united state while waiting
,

lastly, u and your wife can ask him to send u guys normal invitation letter, but the above two are far better than this,
hope i was helpful
I need more information about these options. I feel I can give my kids more options if they have status in other countries e.g it costs less to school as a citizen than as an international student, so am thinking far ahead. My papa try, but if to say na Yale or Harvard I go, my levels for pass this one.

I need info pls!!

Obamaphobes freak out as presidential motorcade causes traffic jam
August 17th, 2010 at 08:41am Pat Cunningham

THIS PIECE, which was prominently touted this morning by the Drudge Report (of course), is an example how petty and ridiculous Obamaphobia has become.

An excerpt (take notice of the snide reference to “Hollywood insiders…having a fancy fundraiser”):

I am coming to you live from the center of the worst traffic jam I have ever seen in my life. I’ve been trapped here for over three hours because President Obama and a group of Hollywood insiders are having a fancy fundraiser.

Someone apparently decided that Obama’s $30,000-a-plate dinner at the house of “West Wing” producer John Wells necessitated shutting down most of the major east-west through streets in Los Angeles.

Apparently, it didn’t occur to the author of that little article that blame for any logistical problems should be aimed at the cops and city officials, not at Obama. But then, some folks are inclined to blame the president for anything and everything. That’s why we call them Obamaphobes.

Presidential Security
Submitted by Edson Aranthes De Nascimento (not verified) on December 19, 2010 - 00:59.
People, I live in playa vista (los angeles) which is about 5 minutes from los angeles international airport, and I can tell you that on 2 occasions that President Obama came to los angeles this year, the entire airport (as huge and busy as it is), and all roads within a 3 mile (about 4.8km) radius of the airport were completely SHUT down. And I mean absolutely no movement. So it is common practice around the world (at least in advanced nations) for this sort of thing to happen. GEJ is our man; practically hoisted to that position by God - and we SHALL respect that.

Presidential motorcade closes Olympic Blvd for three hours Monday , 51 posts - 34 authors - Last post: 17 Aug
Let the presidential motorcade go through normal traffic. End the no-fly zones. etc. He's a President, an elected official, not a king. ,

The above and more show that its common practice worldwide to take extra security measures with presidential motorcade and aircraft. Infact just google presidential motorcade or check out wikipedia to see and read countless instances of such wordwide.

So if security consciousness calls for it, then its better to do it.

Hi Jericho and other learned colleagues of NL,

A particular bank in Nigeria (for now, let’s call the bank XYZ) deducted N1,000 from my account and when I asked them why the deduction, I was told that it was towards the new ATM card that the bank is giving to their customers.

I told the bank that I do not need the new ATM card because for over the past 1 year, I have been doing online online transaction and I won't even be needing it in future and furthermore, I believe the proper thing the bank should have done is to notify us (the customers) first and request for those who will need the new ATM card or not before deciding on deducting N1,000 from our account. I further asked the bank that since I don’t need the ATM card and I have not collected it, they should please return the N1,000 back into my account but up till now, they have not done so.

My question now is: Can I take this bank to court and what is the procedure for doing this?

I have all e-mail communication between me and the bank as proof.

Please kindly advice.
NiceChap
To recover your N1000, you need to do the following:

1. Engage a Lawyer - N150,000
2. Lawyer charges N5000 per appearance in court x 52 appearances over a 3yr period - N260,000
3. Case decided in your favour 3yrs later and court asks bank to refund N1000 and pay N20,000 to you as costs.

So who won?

Phones › Airtel Slashes Call Tariff To All Networks To N12 Per Minute by amdman(op): 4:34pm On Dec 03, 2010
LAGOS — FIFTH largest mobile telecommunications operator in the world, Airtel, has announced a new promotional offer on all calls
after the first minute of the day at 20 kobo per second. The new promo called 2Good would apply to all calls on net and off net for
all local destinations and to the US.

The 2Good offer allows Airtel customers to make calls at just 20 kobo per second after the first minute in the day. For the first minute a subscriber pays 60 kobo per second and enjoys the benefits for all his calls in the rest of the day. He also enjoys the freedom to make calls at this rate to any network in the country. Airtel said that 2Good also brings this same ‘Freedom’ to make calls at the same 60 kobo per second for the first minute in the day and 20 kobo per second thereafter to all his family and friends in
the US.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Airtel Nigeria, Rajan Swaroop, said: “We launched the Airtel brand last month with the promise to deliver innovative, affordable and relevant solutions to ‘bring freedom’ to our customers. Our 2Good promotion demonstrates our commitment to live up to that promise. According to him, the new tariff offer from Airtel is a clear response to the expectations of Nigerians and the challenge laid down recently by President Jonathan at the launch of the Airtel brand in Abuja.

My marriage is just over a month old, and I found my wife a virgin on the wedding night, and yes she was 31! In the morning, I told my parents and hers, and somehow my siblings got to hear. Of course some said thats ol school, but if you look close enough, you will see that look of wonderment in their eyes like WOW!

And I can tell you that it has done a lot of good:

1. Proved to everyone that we stuck to our guns becuase as christians we were sticklers for doing the right thing (we dated for 11 years)

2. My mum loved her before cos she knew she was great for me, but now she has practically adopted my wife as her daughter.

3. Her mum was mightily proud of her being the last of her four daughters to get married (she raised all of them alone)

and lots more.
