Am married and we are both adventurous and want to see othe West African countries. We have scheduled stopovers at Cotonou and final destination is Accra... and there are lots of hotels at both locations. Be rest assured that arrangements made exceed just fueling the car (that's the least)... but you see that why am here to find out if there other things I have not thought of.

Sounds like a romantic journey abeg. Only problem I see here is @poster's need to include strangers with them. If na me be wifey, I nor go gree.

Unless they're running away from something, then don't embark on the journey if you haven't got enough money jor.[/quote]It is a romantic journey for wifey and I. Main reason for wanting to include a stranger is not really financial but to prepare for any eventuality where I may not be in a position to drive or need help with the car.

On a general note, one cannot be too careful in view of the risks of social media. But paranoia is something else... and that will completely rob you of your adventurous spirit. I have considered this and will carefully choose who I eventually take along. Will confirm addresses both home and office, meet at least a family member etc. Mine will also be available for confirmation.

Am planning a road trip for wifey and myself from Lagos - Cotonou - Lome - Accra. The trip will be for the last two weeks in the month of October. I will be doing the driving and would not mind adding another couple to the team. Holla me here if you you like to join.

I will also appreciate tips of what to bear in mind for trips such as this as this is my first trip to the mentioned cities.

There is a proliferation of various fuel treatment products in the Nigerian market, and I have always wondered if its advisable. Whats your general opinion about fuel additives?
Travel › Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 2 by amdman: 8:10am On Sep 10, 2012
Urgent Question Pls!

Am about to make an application for my mum and the circumstances are as follows:

1. I have an elder sister and brother in the UK, but the sponsor of the trip is my much older cousin, as my siblings are not in a position to do that right now though they have proper documentation.
2. My cousin has sent an invitation letter, statement of account and copy of passport. Are there other required documents?
3. My mum retired as a senior officer in one of the security agencies in the country. Does she need to include her own financial documentation aside her id card and retirement letter?
4. Does she need to name my sister (who has just given birth) and brother as her kids in the UK or that she will be visiting them (will she need an invitation letter from them too)?
5. Does she need to include copies of marriage certificate, title to her landed property and share certificates as proof of ties to Nigeria?
6. How do we prove the relationship between her and my cousin aside photographs where they appear together?

I need urgent answers pls.
Family › Re: Couples Squatting With Parents: Your Experience And Take On It? by amdman: 2:44pm On Aug 14, 2012
It is not a good thing to squat with your parents after getting married, but certain circumstances may warrant it.

When I got married, my wife stayed with my parents for about 3months (after honeymooning for about two weeks in Lagos though) while I squatted with a friend in the meanwhile. Stupid as that may sound, I will tell you why

2 months to my wedding in October 2010, I got this lovely 2 bedroom flat in a Northern town where I was working. Every other thing seemed set for the wedding (as per all plans were on course). By the end of September however, I got an offer from a better organization in lagos to resume 4th October. The relocation costs to Lagos was like N1m and that was unbudgetted. The other option was moving the wedding to a later date and mind you invitation cards went out like 2 months previously and most things were paid for.

At the end of the day, we got married, she stayed with my parents (in another city), I squatted with a friend for awhile, pushed hard and made our own place possible

Family › Re: He Sells His Wife's Chin-chin In The Office by amdman: 2:49pm On Jul 25, 2012
^^^^Like I said earlier, it is not a going-forward strategy to be selling the stuff in the office, displaying it and all that.

Its more like wearing a shirt to the office and a colleague says 'I love that shirt, pls get one for me'. If I choose to oblige him, it won't be at variance with company policy. Likewise, I distributed the chin-chin free of charge the first time and feedback was like 'wow, its so nice, bring for me tomorrow' and 'always bring for me'. Obliging them does not infringe on the company policy which is actually targetted as using official hours for private biz. If I was displaying the products, or going from desk to desk to sell, that's a different thing altogether.
Family › Re: He Sells His Wife's Chin-chin In The Office by amdman: 2:03pm On Jul 25, 2012
jidobaba: @amdman, you make selling chin chin sound like fortune500 business. No self-respecting man should be selling chin chin in the office.
You are entitled to your views, but note that food business is what many Fortune 500 companies do! PepsiCo, Kraft Foods, Coca-Cola, Tyson Foods, etc are companies I can immediately point at as American companies in food business and are in the top Fortune 100 companies by revenue - http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/fortune500/2012/full_list/index.html

In Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries, Nestle, Guinness, Flour Mills, Dangote Sugar, Cadbury, Dangote Flour Mills, 7-UP Bottling Coy, Honeywell Flour Mill, National Salt Coy, Presco, Okomu Oil Palm. etc are Food/Beverage companies in the Thisday/BGL 50 top stocks in Nigeria. Or ask UAC Foods, Chi Group, Tastee Fried Chicken, Tantalizers, Integrated Dairies etc what their annual revenues are.

The value of education is that you can take roasted plantain and turn it into a world class product. Applying innovation, you turn an unattractive item into a commodity of choice. I am a lawyer turned credit/investment analyst, so I should know a few things.

My friend (poster Nahinbdis) just showed me this post now and I am the one he is referring to.

Wifey is currently doing her NYSC here in Lagos. We had previously resolved that she would not be going into paid employment upon completion. Because of her industrious nature, she mooted the idea of starting a catering business while she is still serving, as a learning process before going bigger. And I think any husband in a great marriage such as I have would support her.

I don’t actually ‘hawk’ the stuff in the office. Like OP said, I brought it to the office for testing and people just loved it, and asked that I keep bringing (including my supervising manager), and right now when people know that I bring, demand exceeds supply. It doesn’t affect my job at all (issues raised by Braveheart are germane) as I have drawn up a list of those interested and I just ask them if they want. However, the selling is a short term thing as there are avenues I am currently exploring that will take care of that (a bigger platform) in about 2 weeks or so.

And the truth is there is profit in it (for wifey though). She told me yesterday that she has started saving N2000 per day as untouchable profit (other profits are reinvested) and we have not even done 1% of the actual marketing and sales in our business plan. She is so anxious to start the real stuff and am the one holding her on a leash right now (so she does not put too much on her plate).

Do I really care what people think? Sometimes. But when I look at the big picture I kill those thoughts. Someday, this will be part of the testimony and it would all have been worth it.

A vulcanizer once put 70psi on my left rear tyre on a trip from Benin to Lagos. Had to check the pressure at Ore cos I didn't like the handling and I was shocked!

So your own tyre pressure gauge is a good buy.

The reality of the Nigerian businessman is that he wants to make all the money quickly without working on building a stable base. Thus he grows a tall tree that has little roots and when the big challenges come, the business crumbles like a pack of cards.

Most of the ingredients for business failure are in Nigeria, but Ibukun Awosika made it and is today doing big business. What are you going to do about yours?

If we do nothing, we are as guilty as all the ineffective systems that we blame - Adetoun Ogwo.
