CrimeMob Attacks Wanted Robbery Suspect In Enugu, Police Recover Pump-action Gun by AmeboFeeds(op): 2:54pm On Mar 15
Mob Attacks Wanted Robbery Suspect In Enugu, Police Recover Pump-Action Gun

A suspected armed robber who had been on the police wanted list in Enugu State was severely beaten by an angry mob after he was caught with a pump-action gun at a market square, police sources said.

The suspect, identified as Friday Onwujekwu, popularly known as “Nwatico,” was reportedly apprehended by residents at the Eke Market Square in Akiyi, Umulokpa area of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area on Friday afternoon.

According to a situation report obtained on Sunday, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on March 13, 2026, after the police received a distress call that the suspect had been captured by members of the public and was being lynched.

Onwujekwu had been declared wanted by the state police command following an earlier attack on a member of a local neighbourhood watch group.

Police sources said that on January 10, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked Okechukwu Dennis Okoaku at Awkunato Village in Uzo Uwani LGA and dispossessed him of a pump-action gun before fleeing the area.

After months on the run, the suspect was reportedly sighted at the market square while still in possession of the stolen weapon, leading to his capture by residents.

“The suspect who had been on the run was caught at Eke Market Square in Akiyi Umulokpa while armed with the same pump-action gun he earlier stole. He was being lynched by an irate mob before police intervened,” a police source said.

The Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where they rescued the suspect from the mob. However, he had already sustained varying degrees of injuries from the beating.

The suspect was initially rushed to the Police Clinic in Enugu for urgent treatment but was later referred to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, where he is currently receiving medical care.

Police authorities said the case has been transferred to the Command’s Crack Squad in Enugu for further investigation.

Meanwhile, security sources noted that the general security situation in the state remains calm, with police continuing aggressive patrols and monitoring across communities.

PoliticsAPC Leaders, Members Demand Change Of Baton In Abeokuta North State Constituency by AmeboFeeds(op): 4:02pm On Mar 14
APC leaders, members demand change of baton in Abeokuta North State Constituency

as Omo-Ade declares ambition, pledges to unseat Tella

Scores of leaders, elders and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in both Ikereku and Imala Districts of the Oke-Ogun Region of Abeokuta North State Constituency have demanded a change of baton, asking for fresh blood to represent them at the Ogun State House of Assembly come 2027.

The leaders, elders and members of APC drawn from Electoral Wards 13, 14, 15 and 16 of Abeokuta North, converged on Friday at Egba Oke-Ogun Council of Baales and Chiefs Hall at Idiya-Rounda, Abeokuta to deliberate and receive Hon. Yisa Ismaila Adebayo as APC Aspirant from Ward 16, who is contesting to replace Hon Babatunde Tella from Abeokuta North State Constituency.

Speaking on the need for APC to have a quality representation from Abeokuta North State Constituency at Ogun State Assembly, Chief Sunday Oyatope, a former Councillor and APC Leader, said the time had come for the State Constituency a responsible and responsive representative that will not only deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, but will also have listening ears.

Chief Oyatope said despite the efforts of the party men and women in ensuring that Hon. Babatunde Tella emerge as Abeokuta North State Constituency Representative at the State House of Assembly, nothing was forthcoming from him to a large number of party men, women and the residents of the Area.

Also, Mr Sunday Afolabi, former Secretary to the Local Government, Abeokuta North Local Government, noted that the people had had enough failed promises from Hon Babatunde Tella, saying tbrough the new Aspirant, Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, "We are going to do what they (Hon Tella and Co) failed to do. They want to impose on us and we don't want imposition this time around. Let's play the politics the way it should be."

While Mrs Oluwatoyin Fadipe from Ward 15, said she had initially written off working with any politicians in the 2027 General Elections based on her ugly experiences from the like of Hon. Babatunde Tella, but with Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, she would gladly work again for APC in the next polls, considering the personality and character of Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo.

She said, "I want to thank those that invited me here today, because I have done lots for the Constituency but nothing was forthcoming from those we have been electing. When Hon. Tella was coming on board, he told us to work for him without giving us anything. At the end of the day, there wasn't anything from him to us, up till now.

"All I know is that the political office is not for one person only. But, we can only beg you (new APC Aspirant, Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo) not to use and dump us like Hon Tella did for us. The politics we are doing now in Oke-Ogun is that of selfishness and that is not good politics. Everybody should be carried along in your programmes when you are elected Lawmaker, representing our Constituency."

Echoing the political sentiment of Mrs Fadipe, another APC member from Ward 13, Mrs Funke Obasanmi, noted that the 2027 General elections would offer them the opportunity to seperate the wheat from the chaff by electing the right person for the job, alleging some politicians are moving around at the eleventh hour but the party leaders, elders and members had zero the minds against such a move.

"There have been bringing around money at the eleventh hour to give us, but we won't collect their money. We are all mobilising and voting for you (Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo) come 2027."

For Chief Salimon Majekodunmi, Chairman, Idiya-Rounda Community Development Association (CDA) and Ekerin, Egba Oke-Ogun Council of Baales and Chiefs, the APC should look inward and allow real primary elections to be conducted in order to know who is the real candidate that will follow the manifesto of the APC and help President Bola Tinubu to win his re-election as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

But, Chief Semiu Akintade Akogun Olorunda, asked the Ikereku District of Oke-Ogun not to repeat the mistake they made in 2023 by electing Hon Babatunde Tella, saying: "It has been the Ikereku District that has been producing Assembly members since and you (Ikereku District) mustn't get it wrongly this time because if you do, Imala District won't allow you some other time."

Meanwhile, both Hon Wale Ojelabi from Ward 14 and Elder Micheal Awofe Oladipupo from Ward 16, confirmed that with the set of leaders, elders and members selected across the nooks and crannies of the 16 Wards that make up Abeokuta North State Constituency working for Hon. Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, the elections - both Primary and General elections, are as good as won.

"You will be guided and guarded by God to become the Lawmaker, representing our Constituency in Abeokuta North. We have selected the best across all the 16 Wards.

We know that you be brought to Oke-Mosan State Assembly by God's Grace. But, don't deceive us like Hon Tella. We know you are capable but don't forget your manifesto and pledges to all of us when you are eventually elected as Lawmaker, representing Abeokuta North State Constituency."

EducationLASCOCO Chairman, Governing Council Urges Students To Embrace Learning Opportuni by AmeboFeeds(op): 12:45pm On Mar 14
LASCOCO Chairman, Governing Council urges students to embrace learning opportunities

…As College matriculates 183 students

The Chairman of the Governing Council of the Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO), Mr. Oyebowale Raji, has urged new students of the College to fully embrace the numerous learning opportunities available in the school and to envision themselves as future leaders of the cooperative movement and catalysts for community development.

Speaking at the 2025/2026 Matriculation Ceremony of the College, Mr. Oyebowale Raji said they are strengthening academic and professional programmes relevant to cooperative development and enterprise management; expanding entrepreneurship and innovation training for young people; cultivating international partnerships and collaborations with reputable cooperative and educational institutions; deepening research and policy engagement in cooperative and MSME development; and positioning the College as a hub for cooperative leadership, training, and enterprise incubation.

He said: “You are joining an institution that occupies a strategic position within Lagos State’s developmental framework. The cooperative movement remains one of the most potent instruments for financial inclusion, community development, and grassroots economic empowerment. This College was established to provide the intellectual and professional foundation necessary to sustain and strengthen that movement.

“As the Governing Council, we take immense pride in the progress the College has made since its inception. With the commencement of our second term in office, the Council has articulated a revitalized vision aimed at transforming LASCOCO into a premier centre of excellence for cooperative education, entrepreneurship development, and community capacity building, not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

“These initiatives are carefully designed to ensure that LASCOCO continues to produce graduates who are not only academically proficient but also entrepreneurial, innovative, and capable of generating sustainable economic value within their communities.

“To our esteemed matriculating students, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on securing admission into this institution. Your admission into LASCOCO presents you with a remarkable opportunity; however, your success will ultimately depend on your discipline, commitment to learning, and adherence to the values of integrity, cooperation, and service to society.

“To the parents and guardians present today, we express our sincere gratitude for the trust you have placed in this institution. We assure you that the College continue to provide an enabling environment that promotes both academic excellence and sound character development.”

On his part, the Provost of the College, Dr. Walid Gbadebo Adebosin said cooperative education remains one of the most powerful instruments for inclusive economic development, community empowerment, and sustainable wealth creation.

He said across the world, cooperative institutions have demonstrated their capacity to promote financial inclusion, support small businesses, create employment, and strengthen local economies.

“It is therefore not surprising that governments across many advanced and developing economies continue to promote cooperatives as a key pillar for grassroots economic development and social stability.

“Lagos State has remained a leading example in Nigeria in promoting cooperative development as a strategic tool for economic empowerment and financial sustainability.

“The establishment of Lagos State Cooperative College represents the Government’s visionary investment in human capital development, ensuring that cooperative leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals receive structured education, technical skills, and modern business knowledge required to thrive in today’s dynamic economy.

“Our College therefore occupies a strategic position within the cooperative ecosystem of Lagos State, serving as a centre for training, research, innovation, and capacity building.

“The programmes of this College are deliberately designed to support the development priorities of the Lagos State Government, particularly the THEMES Plus Agenda, which focuses on Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy, Entertainment and Tourism, and Security and Governance.

“Through cooperative education, entrepreneurship development, and vocational training, Lagos State Cooperative College is contributing directly to the human capital development pillar of the State’s strategic agenda.

“Our goal is to produce graduates who will not only seek employment but who will also become creators of opportunities, drivers of innovation, and contributors to economic productivity.

“The National Diploma programmes provide strong academic and professional foundations in cooperative management, enterprise development, and related fields. The Professional Diploma programmes are designed to strengthen the capacity of professionals already working within cooperative institutions and related sectors.

“Our Skill Acquisition programmes, on the other hand, are focused on equipping individuals with practical technical skills that enable them to become self-reliant and economically productive. Together, these programmes represent a holistic approach to education that integrates knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurship.”

According to him, one of the greatest challenges facing many developing economies today is the gap between formal education and practical skills required in the labour market.

He noted that Lagos State Cooperative College is responding to this challenge by strengthening its technical and vocational training programmes.

“I am pleased to report that our flagship Technical Skill-Up Programme, launched in 2025, is already making significant strides in this regard. The programme is designed to empower participants with practical competencies in key areas such as Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Welding and Fabrication, and Plumbing & Pipefitting, leading to self-employment, small business development, and sustainable livelihoods.

“The first cohort of trainees have successfully completed the intensive training phase and is now preparing to embark on a three-month Industrial Attachment to gain real-world experience. Following this, they will sit for the internationally recognized City & Guilds certification examination, validating their skills to a global standard.

“Furthermore, the second batch of trainees commenced their own journey in January 2026 and have shown tremendous promise, recently benefiting from an exposure visit to the facilities of our technical partner, the Henry Karll Technical Training Centre, Badagry.

“This initiative is a clear demonstration of our determination to ensure that the College becomes not just an academic institution, but a centre of excellence for technical skills development and cooperative entrepreneurship, directly contributing to workforce development in Lagos State

“Dear matriculating students, today you are beginning a journey that will shape your future in profound ways. The education you receive here will equip you with knowledge, skills, and values that will define your role in society. However, the success of this journey will depend largely on your attitude, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

“You must remember that education is not only about acquiring certificates. It is about developing the capacity to think critically, solve problems, innovate, and contribute positively to society.”

Missiles and Markets: The Struggle for Global Economic Influence

Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

In the complex landscape of modern geopolitics, economic power and military power often intersect. The statement that “Iran is controlling the world's economy while the United States of America is busy throwing missiles up and down” reflects a growing perception among some observers that economic leverage—particularly in energy markets—may be as influential as military force. While the claim is debatable, recent global events show that Iran’s strategic position in the global energy system can significantly affect the world economy, even as the United States remains deeply involved in military conflicts.

Iran’s Strategic Position in the Global Economy
Iran occupies a critical position in the global energy landscape. The country possesses some of the largest fossil-fuel reserves in the world, including the third-largest proven oil reserves and the second-largest natural gas reserves globally. This resource wealth gives Iran significant potential influence over global energy supply and pricing.

More importantly, Iran’s geographical location gives it leverage over one of the world’s most important energy corridors: the Strait of Hormuz. Around 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through this narrow shipping route. Any disruption in this region—whether due to political tensions or military confrontation—can immediately affect global energy prices and economic stability.

Recent conflicts in the Middle East have demonstrated how this leverage works in practice. Escalating tensions involving Iran have disrupted oil shipments, increased energy prices, and forced global institutions to release emergency oil reserves to stabilize markets. When energy prices surge, the ripple effects extend worldwide, affecting inflation, transportation costs, and industrial production.

The United States and the Projection of Military Power
While Iran’s influence is often tied to energy and regional geopolitics, the United States remains the world’s dominant military power. The U.S. maintains hundreds of military bases around the world and frequently deploys its forces in international conflicts to protect allies, counter perceived threats, and maintain global stability.

Critics argue that this focus on military intervention diverts attention from economic diplomacy and global economic competition. Military operations can be expensive and politically controversial, sometimes overshadowing economic strategies that might provide longer-term influence.

However, the United States still plays a central role in the global financial system. The U.S. dollar remains the dominant reserve currency, and American financial institutions, technology companies, and multinational corporations shape much of the world’s economic activity. Therefore, despite military engagements abroad, the U.S. continues to wield enormous economic power.

Iran’s Economic Limitations
Despite its strategic energy position, it would be inaccurate to say that Iran “controls” the world’s economy. In reality, Iran’s economy faces serious challenges. Decades of sanctions, limited foreign investment, and political isolation have restricted its participation in global markets. Studies show that prolonged confrontation with Western countries has reduced Iran’s trade integration and foreign investment, slowing its economic growth.

Additionally, significant portions of Iran’s domestic economy are controlled by powerful state-linked institutions such as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which oversees large sectors of industry and infrastructure. While this consolidation provides internal control, it can also reduce efficiency and limit broader economic development.

Economic Influence vs. Military Power
The broader debate reflected in the statement highlights an important global reality: economic influence is becoming as significant as military strength. Control over resources, trade routes, technology, and financial systems can shape international relations just as much as armies and weapons.

Iran’s ability to influence global energy markets shows how resource control can affect the global economy. Meanwhile, the United States continues to rely on a combination of military capability, economic dominance, and diplomatic alliances to maintain its global role.

Conclusion
The idea that Iran controls the world’s economy while the United States focuses on military action oversimplifies a much more complicated geopolitical landscape. Iran does hold strategic leverage due to its energy resources and location, which can influence global markets during periods of tension. However, the United States still commands the world’s most powerful financial, technological, and military systems.

In today’s interconnected world, true global influence is rarely defined by a single factor. Instead, it emerges from the interplay of economic power, military capability, strategic geography, and international alliances. Both Iran and the United States demonstrate different aspects of this complex balance—one through energy leverage and regional strategy, the other through global financial dominance and military reach.

2027: Tension Rises in Abeokuta North as Oke-Ogun Leaders Debate Political Representation

Fresh cracks may be emerging within political ranks in the Oke-Ogun Community of Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State following a recent meeting of community and party leaders, an undercover investigation has revealed.

As reported, the meeting which was said to have been attended by several political leaders, and party faithful from different wards in the Oke-Ogun area, reportedly exposed deep-seated grievances over political representation, distribution of political appointments and the next House of Assembly race in the constituency.

Sources who attended the meeting who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the gathering, initially convened to discuss unity and political direction within the community, but many of the attendees perceived the gathering as a strategic move aimed at rallying Oke-Ogun leaders behind the second term ambition of the lawmaker, representing Abeokuta North in the House of Assembly, Hon. Tunde Tella.

Information had it that some leaders claimed the gathering looked like an attempt to win leaders over with money, which they said Hon. Tella had not been used to support grassroots political activities in the community in the past three years, therefore turned into a heated debate as some members openly questioned the leadership and political ambitions of the lawmaker, Hon. Tunde Tella.

According to insiders, some members alleged that the interests of Egba indigenes in the Oke-Ogun community had not been adequately protected in the allocation of political appointments and empowerment opportunities, accused the lawmaker of adopting what they described as a “divide-and-rule” approach to politics within the Oke-Ogun Community.

A source present at the meeting claimed that the situation became more intense when a female participant, identified as Funke Obasami, reportedly voiced strong objections and insisted that members should openly express their concerns rather than accept what she described as attempts to pacify aggrieved stakeholders.

Despite efforts by some leaders to calm tensions and persuade members to maintain unity, sources disclosed that the meeting also witnessed subtle declarations of interest by some individuals believed to be eyeing the Abeokuta North State Assembly seat.

One participant from Ward 15 was said to have hinted that he might support an aspirant from another Egba community if consensus could not be reached within Oke-Ogun.

Insiders further alleged that discussions during and after the meeting also touched on concerns about changes in party structures at the ward level, with claims that some executives had been replaced with loyalists particularly from the Egbado extraction of Oke Ogun against the Egba's, a development that some stakeholders reportedly described as highly disciminatory and controversial..

Sources also hinted that several aspirants from communities including Gbagura, Oke-Ona, Oke-Ogun and Owu may soon join the race for the Assembly seat, suggesting that the political contest in Abeokuta North could become more competitive in the coming months.

Oludotun Denies Alleged Verbal Attacks on Chief Olusegun Osoba, Reaffirms Deep Respect

The Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, has strongly refuted allegations circulating in some political circles that he has been verbally attacking former Ogun State governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba, during his political consultations across his federal constituency.

In a press statement released on Monday, March 9, 2026, Oludotun described the claims as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and create unnecessary tension within the political space.

The commissioner stated categorically that at no time has he abused or spoken ill of the elder statesman anywhere in the state. According to him, Chief Osoba remains “my father, my benefactor, and a respected national figure whose experience and political wisdom continue to guide younger politicians.”

Oludotun emphasized that he holds Baba Osoba in the highest esteem and continues to learn from his vast political experience.

“Chief Olusegun Osoba is a national asset and a respected leader. As a young politician in Ogun State, I am privileged to benefit from his wealth of wisdom and political guidance,” Oludotun said in the statement.

The commissioner also warned individuals or groups spreading insults against the former governor in his name to desist immediately. He stressed that he has never authorized anyone to speak against Osoba on his behalf and would not tolerate such actions.

According to him, anyone found engaging in such conduct while claiming to represent him will face legal consequences.

CSOs suspend planned protest in Lagos, demand immediate investigation

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations has announced the suspension of it's planned protest in Lagos over the decision of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Moshood, to declare the Youth Forum leader of the Ojomu Royal Family, Hammed Tajudeen, as a wanted person.

In a statement by its Chairman, Adeyemi Olorunsogo, the coalition expressed deep concern over what it described as persistent bias and selective actions by the Commissioner of Police against certain members and youths of the Ojomu Royal Family.

The coalition had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum, scheduled to expire on March 9, 2026, during which it demanded an investigation into the matter.

The group had also planned to stage a peaceful protest should its demands remain unmet.

However, the coalition announced that it has decided to suspend the planned protest for an additional seven days following the recent change in leadership within the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the group, the decision was taken to allow the new leadership adequate time to review the issues raised and ensure justice is served.

Despite this gesture, the coalition expressed regret over what it described as continued actions by the Lagos CP allegedly aimed at satisfying certain sponsors.

The group specifically condemned the arraignment of some suspects at the Ogba Magistrate Court on March 6, 2026, which it claims is part of a deliberate attempt to further discredit Hammed Tajudeen.

Furthermore, the coalition raised serious concerns over what it described as the failure of law enforcement authorities to arrest individuals allegedly captured on camera destroying properties belonging to Hammed Tajudeen and others within the Ajiran community.

The group therefore questioned why those individuals have yet to be arrested and called on the authorities to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter.

The coalition warned that if decisive action is not taken within the extended timeframe, it may be left with no option but to mobilize peaceful protests and other lawful civic actions to demand justice.

The Power of Influence: Why Dorcas Adeyinka Inspires Millions and Outshines Critics

By Editor

In a world where public opinion is often amplified through social media, very few individuals manage to command attention while maintaining credibility and impact. Dorcas Adeyinka has achieved precisely that. Loved and admired by the majority of her followers for her philanthropic work, digital engagement, and consistent outreach, she represents a rare example of influence that translates into action.

Yet, as is inevitable for anyone in the public eye, a small segment remains critical or hostile, a reminder that public impact comes with both adoration and scrutiny.

Recent engagement patterns suggest that roughly 80% of those who follow or interact with Dorcas Adeyinka do so out of admiration. They are drawn to her work, inspired by her resilience, and motivated by the tangible difference she makes in communities.

This overwhelming support is not accidental; it is the product of consistent, purposeful engagement over time. Dorcas Adeyinka’s approach demonstrates that influence is more than mere visibility, it is about leveraging attention to create real-world outcomes.

The remaining 20%, however, tend to focus on criticism. Critics may question motives, exaggerate flaws, or respond to her work with cynicism. This is neither unusual nor unique to Dorcas Adeyinka.

Public figures often face detractors who, intentionally or otherwise, seek to undermine influence. But the significance lies in perspective: while critics can create noise, their impact is negligible when measured against the broader base of genuine admiration and support.

What is instructive in Dorcas Adeyinka’s case is how she navigates this dynamic. She does not allow negativity to dictate her actions or compromise her initiatives. This resilience is a hallmark of effective influence. It demonstrates a critical truth: the value of public work is not determined by unanimous approval but by its consistency, intent, and measurable outcomes.

Moreover, the presence of detractors underscores a wider societal phenomenon. In Nigeria, as elsewhere, those who step into public service, especially without formal political or governmental backing, often encounter skepticism. Social media, while an essential tool for amplifying impact, can also magnify criticism.

Yet, Dorcas Adeyinka’s ability to sustain her outreach programs, feed vulnerable communities, and engage her audience thoughtfully reveals the distinction between superficial popularity and meaningful influence.

There is also an important psychological lesson embedded in this dynamic. Criticism is often fueled by envy, misinformation, or resistance to social change. Understanding this allows public figures to interpret negativity not as failure but as a natural consequence of visibility. Dorcas Adeyinka exemplifies this approach by remaining focused on her mission rather than on public approval.

The broader implication of her experience is clear: influence and impact are inseparable from resilience. In a society where cynicism can easily overshadow service, it is the sustained commitment to doing good that earns lasting respect.

While 20% of critics may attempt to cast doubt or diminish achievements, the overwhelming admiration from the 80% who recognize her contribution ensures that her work endures.

Ultimately, Dorcas Adeyinka’s journey illustrates a powerful lesson for all who operate in the public sphere: the measure of influence is not in avoiding criticism but in persisting despite it. Her ability to balance visibility with tangible outcomes, and admiration with scrutiny, makes her a model for modern philanthropy and civic engagement.

Influence without action is fleeting; criticism without context is noise. Dorcas Adeyinka shows that when impact is sustained, when purpose is clear, and when resilience is prioritized, both admiration and criticism become part of a larger narrative, one in which meaningful social contribution cannot be ignored.

In a digital age where every action is magnified, Dorcas Adeyinka’s story reminds us that true influence is measured less by applause and more by endurance, integrity, and the courage to continue serving regardless of opposition.

Fuel Price Hike Not Tinubu’s Making, Says Policy Analyst

An Ekiti-born public administrator and policy analyst, Dr. Olusola John Ojo, has said that the recent increase in fuel prices in Nigeria should not be blamed on Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the development is largely driven by global geopolitical tensions affecting the oil market.

Dr. Ojo, who is an oil and gas expert with extensive experience across the upstream and downstream sectors of the petroleum industry, explained that the ongoing tensions involving Israel, Iran, and the United States have significantly disrupted global crude oil supply expectations, leading to rising international oil prices and, consequently, higher fuel prices across many parts of the world.

According to him, Nigeria, like many other countries that depend on global crude oil pricing, cannot isolate itself from the ripple effects of such international crises.

Recent reports show that crude oil prices have surged following escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes.

Analysts warn that disruptions in that region could push global oil prices even higher, with direct consequences for fuel prices across many countries.

Dr. Ojo noted that in a deregulated petroleum market, the cost of petrol is largely influenced by the international price of crude oil and the cost of refining and distribution.

“The present fuel price adjustment is not a local political decision but a reflection of global realities. When crude oil prices rise due to conflicts or supply disruptions, the cost of refined petroleum products inevitably increases,” he said.

He added that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East has already caused crude oil prices to climb above previous levels, forcing refineries and marketers to review their prices to reflect the rising cost of crude and logistics.

Industry data shows that several fuel stations in Nigeria have recently adjusted pump prices upward, with petrol selling between ₦900 and nearly ₦1,000 per litre in some locations after refiners increased depot prices in response to global crude price movements.

Dr. Ojo emphasized that the situation is not unique to Nigeria, stressing that many economies around the world are currently facing similar energy price pressures as geopolitical tensions continue to affect global oil supply.

“The whole world is feeling the impact. Energy markets are interconnected, and any major disruption in the Middle East will inevitably affect countries across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas,” he said.

While acknowledging the hardship faced by Nigerians due to rising fuel costs, the policy analyst urged citizens to understand the global factors behind the development and avoid placing the blame solely on the Nigerian government.

He further called on policymakers to focus on strengthening Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity and energy diversification, which he said would help reduce the country’s vulnerability to external shocks in the future.

Dr. Ojo concluded that while the current situation may be difficult, improving local production capacity and energy infrastructure would be critical in insulating the Nigerian economy from global oil market volatility.

Alleged Yahoo Yahoo Kingpin, Akinteye Babatunde “BABTEE,” Declares Intentions to Contest for NANS President Amid Corruption Allegations

Controversy has erupted in Nigeria’s student politics as Akinteye Babatunde, popularly known as “BABTEE,” allegedly a notorious Yahoo Yahoo kingpin, announced his intentions to contest for the presidency of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Africa’s largest student movement.

BABTEE’s declaration as announced on his official Facebook page on March 5th, 2026 has sparked outrage and renewed scrutiny, particularly over allegations of corruption and mismanagement tied to his name. In his declaration of intent, the NACV alleged that Akinteye Babatunde touted one of his major achievements while serving as Senate President of NANS as his frequent release from custody of alleged cyber criminals disguised as students arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, an obstruction of justice for which he is widely regarded within the cyber criminals and the main reason for promoting his candidature as he is always available using his government links while hiding under NANS platform to perpetrate fraud, defend fraudsters and secure their releases from anti graft agencies.
The candidate was recently accused of diverting CNG buses donated to NANS by the federal government, an allegation he has yet to publicly address or deny.

In a letter made public on March 2, 2026, the NANS Anti-Corruption Vanguard (NACV) appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning against federal government support of an alleged cybercriminal to lead the student body. The group published the letter in The Nation newspaper, citing concerns that BABTEE’s leadership could compromise both the integrity and the mission of NANS.

The letter alleged that BABTEE, a self acclaimed godson of Barr. Seyi Tinubu was “culpable in the mismanagement of NANS funds” and directly implicated in the “diversion and sale of 56 CNG buses donated by the federal government to ease transportation burdens on campuses across Nigeria.” The NACV urged the federal government to detach itself from sponsoring someone they described as a “renowned Yahoo Yahoo kingpin” to lead the organization as this portends a grave danger to the image of Nigeria as a nation before the international community with serious negative diplomatic appearance.

“The largest student movement in Africa should not be led by an individual whose hands are steeped in cybercrime and financial mismanagement", the NACV wrote. “We call on the government to ensure that the upcoming NANS elections reflect transparency, accountability, and integrity, rather than condoning the rise of a cybercriminal to the helm of student leadership.”

The controversy has raised wider questions about accountability in student politics and the influence of powerful individuals in Nigerian student unions. Analysts suggest that allegations such as diversion of government-donated buses could have serious implications for both education and public trust in youth leadership.

With 56 CNG buses reportedly missing or allegedly sold, the federal government’s student transport initiative, designed to reduce transportation burdens on campuses nationwide, has come under intense scrutiny. Critics argue that any further involvement by an individual facing such allegations could jeopardize the program’s objectives.

The NACV’s open letter to President Tinubu has since gone viral among students and social media users, many of whom have expressed alarm at the prospect of alleged cybercriminals holding influential positions in student governance.

“The students of Nigeria deserve leaders of integrity,” one social media commentator wrote. “Allowing someone with a history of financial mismanagement and cybercrime allegations to lead NANS is a betrayal of the trust of millions of students across the country.”

The NANS elections, slated for later this year, now face heightened scrutiny, with advocacy groups calling on both the government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of student affairs to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process.

Observers warn that the fallout from the BABTEE controversy could extend beyond student politics, raising broader concerns about governance, accountability, and youth leadership in Nigeria.

Stakeholders Petitions Tinubu Over Alleged Diversion Of 50 FG-Donated CNG Buses, Accuses Minister, Aide, Ex-NANS Leaders Of Criminal Infiltration

A group of concerned stakeholders within Nigeria’s student movement has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging large-scale corruption, diversion of public assets and criminal infiltration within the leadership structures of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS).

In a letter obtained by SaharaReporters on Wednesday the group accused the Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, Asefon Sunday Dayo, and two former NANS leaders — Akinteye Babatunde (popularly known as Babtee) and Lucky Emonefe — of misappropriating federal government interventions meant for Nigerian students.

The petitioners alleged that about 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses donated by the Federal Government to ease transportation challenges on tertiary campuses were diverted, shared among individuals, and in some cases sold.

According to the letter, the buses were allegedly retained for private commercial arrangements or disposed of outright, rather than deployed to campuses as intended. The group claimed that only a handful of the vehicles are traceable within student communities, while others are unaccounted for.

They called on the President to order an immediate audit to determine the total number and current location of the buses and to retrieve any found to have been wrongfully diverted.

Beyond the buses, the petition accused the same officials and former student leaders of diverting funds raised for NANS conventions and allegedly selling government-facilitated employment opportunities meant for former student leaders.

The group alleged that monies sourced in the name of organising student conventions were mismanaged, leaving delegates stranded without accommodation and logistics support despite substantial funds reportedly being mobilised.

It further claimed that employment slots facilitated through government channels were either sold for millions of naira or allocated to associates with no background in student activism, thereby creating resentment within the student body.

The letter also raised concerns over the alleged sale of food palliatives meant for indigent students during festive and fasting periods.

In a more explosive claim, the petitioners accused one of the aspirants for the 2026 NANS presidency, Akinteye Babatunde, of alleged involvement in an international cyber fraud network, commonly referred to in Nigeria as “yahoo yahoo.”

They alleged that individuals linked to the aspirant use NANS-branded number plates on luxury vehicles to evade scrutiny from security agencies.

The group warned that invoking the name of the President and his son, Seyi Tinubu, in internal NANS politics could damage the Presidency’s image if not addressed.

They alleged that some actors within the student movement frequently claim endorsement from the Presidency to influence convention outcomes and suppress opposition candidates.

The petitioners urged President Tinubu to direct anti-corruption and security agencies to: Conduct a full audit of all CNG buses donated to NANS; Investigate the allocation of government employment opportunities linked to student leaders; Probe allegations of diversion of convention funds; Examine claims of cybercrime involvement among aspirants to NANS leadership; and Ensure that individuals with alleged criminal antecedents are not endorsed or shielded by state actors.

They argued that the student movement, once known for its radical activism during the military era, is now facing what they described as “a crisis of credibility,” warning that failure to act could deepen distrust among Nigeria’s over 40 million students.

The letter framed the controversy as a broader struggle over the future of student unionism in Nigeria, urging the President to distance his administration from any individual accused of exploiting government goodwill for personal gain.

Solanke Ayomideji Cares

In the spirit of compassion, sacrifice, and unity that defines the holy month of Ramadan, Alhaji Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, popularly known as OMO-ADE, has once again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to humanity by providing iftar meals to Muslims fasting in Abeokuta North Local Government Area and beyond.

Joining the global Muslim Ummah in observing Ramadan, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain has taken deliberate steps to ensure that families and individuals observing the fast have access to nourishing meals to break their fast at sunset. His initiative, which has reached hundreds of beneficiaries across communities, reflects the core values of Ramadan — love, perseverance, and generosity.

Residents of Abeokuta North have lauded the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly in a period when many families are grappling with economic challenges. For many beneficiaries, the provision of iftar meals not only eased financial burdens but also reinforced a sense of belonging and community solidarity.

Alhaji Adebayo’s philanthropic efforts stand out as they are not driven by the pursuit of political office. Despite not holding any political position, he continues to dedicate his resources and time to uplifting the less privileged. His belief in service to humanity as a pathway to societal development has remained consistent over the years.

As Muslims continue the month-long fast, the actions of OMO-ADE serve as a reminder that true leadership transcends titles and positions. In extending love and perseverance through his Ramadan outreach, he has reaffirmed that genuine service to humanity remains the highest calling.

Indeed, for the people of Abeokuta North and neighboring communities, this year’s Ramadan has been marked not only by devotion and prayer but also by a renewed sense of hope inspired by a man committed to making a difference.

CSOs Decry Alleged Bias by Lagos Commissioner of Police Against Ojomu Royal Family Youth Forum, Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen

The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in collaboration with the Centre for Citizens Rights has called for investigation into the alleged accusation against the Chairman of the Youth Forum of Ojomu Royal Family in Lagos State, Hammed Tajudeen.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the Chairman of the Coalition, Comr Adeyemi olorunshogo , said the allegations by the Lagos State Police Command against Tajudeen are baseless.

The Coalition threatened to embark on protest if the police command fails to retract its allegations with the next seven days.

It said: "Consequently, we make the following demands and expect it will be met in 7 days from today and otherwise, we shall proceed on a protest not just against the commissioner of police and the Lagos State Police Command but mention names of other individuals fingered in this whole plot.

"The constitution of a special, neutral, and professionally competent investigative team to review the allegations; the prosecution of any persons found to have made false, malicious, or fabricated claims; and a public retraction of the unlawful declaration portraying Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen as a murderer.

"A cease in the further sales of land indigenously belonging to Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area by few individuals.

"The retraction of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police from being the one to investigate the matter as he is obviously compromised in this matter.

"We belief this will not be seen as a threat. As a coalition, we will not watch the rights of a people be taken away or some individuals using their influence to curry favour or miscarry justice in the name of investigations and prosecution of no offender.

"We trust that the appropriate authorities will urgently intervene to restore confidence in due process, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that policing in Lagos State remains professional, impartial, and accountable."

The Coalition alleged that Tajudeen was not giving fair hearing before police declaration. "It is important to state clearly that at no time was Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen invited by the police for questioning.

"At no time did he refuse or fail to honour any police invitation. At no time was any warrant of arrest issued against him by a court of competent jurisdiction. At no time was any judicial authorisation or order obtained to declare him wanted.

"Despite these concerns, on 20 February 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, convened a press briefing during which the full image of Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen was displayed and he was publicly accused of sponsoring multiple murders.

"This unilateral and sensational declaration exposed him to public odium, ridicule, and severe reputational harm, all without the benefit of due process or the basic courtesy of an invitation for questioning.

"This is nothing but intimidation, attempt to cow and silence strength of a family and a way to call a dog a bad name in other to hang it.

"It is against this backdrop that we consider it imperative to address the public and set the records straight, ensuring that the rights and dignity of all parties are preserved while lawful processes are allowed to run their full and proper course.

"We address you today in defence of the Youth Forum of Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, a people been attempted to be rubbished, cheated and ill-treated for a blessing given to them by God.

"For the records, the Ojomu Royal Family is historically vested with vast ancestral lands spanning approximately twenty-two villages, towns, and settlements within Lagos State.

"For over thirty-five years, large portions of these ancestral lands have allegedly been dominated, controlled, and sold by certain traditional authorities within the community without transparent accounting to the family or any visible, traceable development accruing to the community from the proceeds of such transactions.

"In recent years, the youths of the family have demanded accountability, transparency, and clarity regarding the management and sale of these ancestral lands, particularly in the interest of future generations.

"These legitimate demands, however, were allegedly met with resistance, intimidation, and a sustained pattern of petitions written to the police against members of the youth forum led by Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen.

"Available records show that within the last five years alone, more than twenty-five petitions were written against members of the youth forum. In each of these cases, investigations were conducted by the police, and the allegations were reportedly found to be baseless, frivolous, and without merit.

"Despite this history, members of the forum were repeatedly and falsely linked to criminal incidents within and around Ajiran Town, including serious violent crimes, even where there was no factual basis connecting them to such incidents.

"Specifically, reference must be made to the murder of a community member in April 2023 at Moba, a neighbouring settlement.

At the material time, Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen, the Chairman of the Youth Forum, a prominent community figure and longstanding pillar of support to the ancestral family renowned for his philanthropy, including sponsoring the education of indigent children and making weekly voluntary donations to widows and economically vulnerable members of the royal family and the wider community was outside the country.

"Nonetheless, he and other members of the youth forum in the community were accused. Following investigations by the Lagos State Police Command, they were fully exonerated."

Amuzu praised the celebrant’s resilience, generosity of spirit, and enduring dedication to grassroots development, noting that Adebutu’s political journey has been defined by service, compassion, and an abiding belief in participatory governance.

Party faithful across the state have also joined in celebrating the milestone, describing the occasion as an opportunity to reflect on Adebutu’s enduring impact on the political landscape and his commitment to progressive leadership.

As congratulatory messages continue to pour in from political associates and supporters, today’s celebration underscores not only the personal milestone of a seasoned politician but also the enduring camaraderie within the PDP family.

Ojomu Royal Family: Forum petitions against Lagos CP over accusations against Tajudeen

The Youth Forum of Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, has written a petition against the Commissioner of Police in the state, Moshood Jimoh, over the accusations levelled against Hammed Tajudeen.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the counsel to the Forum, (Adedotun Ajulo, Esq.), said the Lagos State Police Command cannot embark on a media trial in an alleged murder case.

The Forum said the police accused Tajudeen of sponsoring multiple murders without investigation. It stated that at no time was Tajudeen invited by the police for questioning.

It said: "At no time did he refuse or fail to honour any police invitation. At no time was any warrant of arrest issued against him by a court of competent jurisdiction.

"At no time was any judicial authorisation or order obtained to declare him wanted. Despite these concerns, on 20 February 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, convened a press briefing during which the full image of Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen was displayed and he was publicly accused of sponsoring multiple murders.

"This unilateral and sensational declaration exposed him to public odium, ridicule, and severe reputational harm, all without the benefit of due process or the basic courtesy of an invitation for questioning.

"In the aftermath of the press briefing, hoodlums allegedly sponsored by the opposing parties seized upon the heightened tension to vandalize and destroy properties and assets belonging to Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen, as well as those of other identifiable members of the youth wing who are perceived to be aligned with him.

"These coordinated attacks further underscore the dangerous consequences of deploying the machinery of law enforcement in a manner that inflames communal hostilities rather than preserving public order.

"Subsequently, there has been an overwhelming and intimidating presence of both military personnel and policemen within the community, a development that has served only to further harass, threaten, and denigrate our Clients.

"Meanwhile, the opposing parties continue to enjoy open protection, enabling them to persist in the unchecked dissipation of the community’s common patrimony without resistance or accountability.

"The law is settled. The Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, particularly Section 41, regulates the circumstances under which a citizen may be declared wanted.

"These conditions were not met in this case. Furthermore, the courts have held that the publication of a wanted notice without lawful authority is unconstitutional, illegal, and liable to be set aside.

"We emphasise that our clients are not opposed to lawful investigation. They have consistently cooperated with law enforcement agencies in the past and were previously exonerated after investigations.

"What they strongly oppose is indictment without investigation, trial by media, intimidation, and the use of police machinery to settle private disputes or advance personal interests.

"The issues concerning the Ojomu Royal Family long predate the tenure of the current Commissioner of Police, and it is noteworthy that his predecessors never conducted themselves in a manner suggestive of bias, compromise, or improper influence arising from any promise of advantage or lucre, whether direct or implied.

"Consequently, a formal petition has been submitted against the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Lagos State Police Command.

"Among the reliefs sought are the constitution of a special, neutral, and professionally competent investigative team to review the allegations; the prosecution of any persons found to have made false, malicious, or fabricated claims; and a public retraction of the unlawful declaration portraying Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen as a murderer.

"Our Client reiterates his readiness to make himself available for investigation, provided such inquiry is conducted without bias, compromise, or the procedural irregularities presently characterizing the handling of this matter and definitely not by Lagos State Commissioner of Police.

"We trust that the appropriate authorities will urgently intervene to restore confidence in due process, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that policing in Lagos State remains professional, impartial, and accountable.

"More troubling is the fact that such a pronouncement was made in the absence of any invitation, interrogation, or opportunity afforded to Tajudeen to respond to the allegations an omission that gravely offends the tenets of fairness, due process, and responsible policing.

"Furthermore, the conduct of the Commissioner raises serious questions as to whether the machinery of the state is being deployed to settle personal or communal scores rather than to uphold law and order.

"In a democratic society governed by the rule of law, no public officer is permitted to wield statutory powers in a manner that constitutes a media trial or exposes citizens to unwarranted public opprobrium.

"It is against this backdrop that we consider it imperative to address the public and set the records straight, ensuring that the rights and dignity of all parties are preserved while lawful processes are allowed to run their full and proper course."

The federal commissioner also extended warm congratulations to Mr. Henry Olatunji Fagbenro on his re-election as the Local Government Chairman of the APC in Abeokuta South. He prayed for sound health, wisdom and renewed strength for Fagbenro to effectively discharge the responsibilities of his office, noting that continuity in leadership would further consolidate the party’s achievements in the local government area.

Addressing the newly elected ward chairmen and their executives, Amosun charged them to carry out their duties with the fear of God, honesty and a deep sense of responsibility to party members. He emphasized that grassroots leadership remains the bedrock of any successful political structure, urging them to foster inclusiveness, transparency and unity within their respective wards.

According to him, the APC’s continued dominance and electoral successes depend largely on the commitment and integrity of its ward leaders, who serve as the direct link between the party and the people.
He encouraged party faithful in Abeokuta South to rally behind the new executives and support initiatives aimed at strengthening the party’s presence and performance in future political engagements.

Amosun reaffirmed his commitment to the progress of the APC in Abeokuta South and Ogun State at large, expressing confidence that the newly elected leaders would justify the trust reposed in them and work collectively to advance the party’s vision and ideals.

OGWAMA MD, Abayomi Hunye Ousted Over Extortion Allegations as Abiodun Names Farouk Akintunde Replacement

The Executive Governor of Dapo Abiodun has removed the Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Abayomi Hunye, following months of controversy and protests by waste management vendors across the state.

Hunye’s removal comes amid sustained allegations of extortion and arbitrary levy increases levelled against him by members of the Association of Waste Management Vendors and Recyclers of Nigeria (AWMVRN). The Governor has appointed Alhaji Farouk Akintunde, his Special Adviser on Environment, as the new Managing Director of the agency.

Protests and Allegations

The crisis within OGWAMA reached a boiling point in January 2026 when aggrieved vendors staged protests, demanding Hunye’s sack. The protesters accused the former MD of imposing “unbearable” financial demands on operators, including an increase in annual registration fees from N100,000 to N200,000.

Chanting “Hunye Must Go,” the vendors alleged that the levy hike and other charges were arbitrary and had placed severe hardship on waste operators across the state. They further claimed that certain local operators were being sidelined in favour of preferred outsiders.

According to the protesters, the situation had disrupted business operations and threatened livelihoods within the waste management sector.

Hunye’s Defence

Hunye consistently denied all allegations of extortion, insisting that no illegal payments were collected from vendors. He maintained that all fees were paid directly into official government accounts.

“Their extortion claim is not true because I have collected no money from any of them illegally,” Hunye said in response to the accusations. “They have always paid into OGWAMA’s account, and paying into government coffers cannot be described as extortion.”

On the issue of the fee increase, Hunye clarified that the adjustment from N100,000 to N200,000 was agreed upon with the vendors’ association for the 2024 and 2025 operational years.

He also linked the protests to his crackdown on what he described as a “cartel” within the system. According to him, some operators registered multiple companies under different names to dominate contracts and stifle competition. Hunye said he enforced a one-company-per-person policy to promote fairness and accountability, a move he claimed triggered resistance from affected parties.

The former MD further threatened legal action against the protesters for defamation, alleging that the accusations were aimed at undermining reforms within OGWAMA. He also pointed to counter-allegations that some of the protesting members had previously faced suspension within their association over claims of fraud, misrepresentation and forgery.

Government’s Decision

While the Ogun State Government has not released a detailed statement outlining the specific reasons for Hunye’s removal, sources within the administration suggest that the decision was taken in the interest of restoring calm and confidence in the state’s waste management system.

The appointment of Farouk Akintunde, who previously served as Special Adviser on Environment, is seen as a strategic move to stabilise the agency and address stakeholders’ concerns.

Industry observers note that waste management remains a critical component of environmental sustainability and public health in Ogun State. The recent leadership change is expected to usher in renewed dialogue between the government and waste operators.

Stakeholders React

Vendors who had called for Hunye’s removal described the development as a “welcome step,” expressing hope that the new leadership would review existing policies and ease financial pressures on operators.

However, some analysts caution that beyond leadership changes, structural reforms and transparent engagement with stakeholders will be crucial in preventing future crises within OGWAMA.

As Farouk Akintunde assumes office, attention now turns to how the new MD will navigate the delicate balance between enforcing accountability and ensuring that policies do not stifle operators within the sector.

The unfolding developments mark a significant chapter in Ogun State’s environmental governance, with many watching closely to see whether the change in leadership will bring lasting stability to the state’s waste management system.

Lagos APC Chair aspirants urge Tinubu to intervene in refund of nomination fees

The local government chairmanship aspirants in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) have petitioned President Bola Tinubu over none refund of their nomination and expression of interest fees.

The group in the petition alleged that refunds have reportedly been made to councillorship aspirants and a few Local Government Chairmanship aspirants, over 300 chairmanship aspirants across the 57 Local Governments and LCDAs are yet to receive their refunds.

It denied the claims circulating that all aspirants have been refunded. It said that this situation is generating widespread dissatisfaction and is already affecting party stability at the grassroots level.

It said: "The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State is today facing one of the gravest self-inflicted crises in its political history.

"At the center of this controversy is the outright refusal of the Lagos State chapter of the party to comply with constituted authority—specifically, the directive of President Bola Tinubu, and the moral authority of the Executive Governor of Lagos State—regarding the refund of monies paid by aspirants who contested in the deeply controversial 2025 Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections.

"This election has rightly gone down as the most disputed and contentious local government exercise in the history of Lagos State.

"Hundreds of loyal party members, many of whom have invested decades of service, resources, and grassroots mobilization into the APC, were subjected to a process widely perceived as opaque, exclusionary, and predetermined.

"Yet, in the spirit of party loyalty and national interest, these aspirants accepted the intervention of the President, who reportedly directed that all aspirants be refunded as a means of restoring confidence, justice, and internal cohesion.

"Shockingly, the Lagos State APC leadership, under the chairmanship of Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, alongside members of the State Executive Committee, has chosen a path of open defiance.

"This refusal to act on a presidential directive raises serious questions about discipline, loyalty, and respect for hierarchy within the party that prides itself on progressive values and internal democracy.

"Let it be stated clearly: no state chapter of a political party is greater than the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially when that President is a founding pillar of the same party and a former Governor of Lagos State himself.

"To disregard such a directive is not merely administrative arrogance; it is an act of political insubordination with far-reaching consequences.

"The continued refusal to refund these aspirants has already fueled anger, resentment, and quiet rebellion across wards and local governments. Grassroots mobilizers—the very engine of electoral success—feel betrayed and humiliated.

"If this injustice is allowed to stand, it will inevitably translate into voter apathy, internal sabotage, protest votes, and loss of credibility ahead of future general elections.

"History has shown repeatedly that political parties do not collapse from external opposition but from internal injustice. What is happening in Lagos today is a textbook example of how unchecked impunity at the state level can undermine national leadership and weaken party unity.

We therefore call on all well-meaning Nigerians, party elders, progressive leaders, and stakeholders to urgently prevail on Ojelabi, and the entire State Exco to immediately comply with the President’s directive and refund all affected aspirants without further delay.

"This is not merely about money. It is about justice, credibility, party discipline, and the moral authority of leadership. Failure to resolve this matter promptly will cast a long and damaging shadow over upcoming elections in Lagos State and beyond, with consequences that may be irreversible."

Shared Season of Reflection: Amuzu Felicitates Muslims, Christians as Ramadan and Lent Commence

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) House of Representatives candidate for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency, Toyin Amuzu, has congratulated Muslims and Christians on the simultaneous commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fasting period and the Christian Lenten season, both of which begin on February 18.

In a goodwill message released on Tuesday, Amuzu described the rare convergence of the two sacred observances as a significant spiritual moment that calls for sober reflection, unity and renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence among Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic differences.

According to him, the overlap of Ramadan and Lent offers a unique opportunity for adherents of Islam and Christianity to deepen their faith, promote love for one another and contribute to the moral and social development of the nation.

He urged Muslims to embrace the spiritual essence of Ramadan by upholding values such as self-discipline, charity, patience and compassion for the less privileged. Similarly, he encouraged Christians observing Lent to dedicate the period to prayer, fasting, repentance and acts of kindness that reflect the teachings of the Christian faith.

Amuzu called on the Muslim Ummah to reflect on the virtues of Prophet Muhammad, particularly his teachings on tolerance, generosity and peaceful coexistence. He also urged Christians to emulate the humility, sacrifice and compassion exemplified by Jesus Christ during the 40-day Lenten season.

“The simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent reminds us that beyond our different religious practices, we share common values of sacrifice, devotion, discipline and service to humanity,” he said. “This period should inspire us to show love to our neighbours, support the needy and work collectively for peace and progress in our communities.”

The PDP candidate further appealed to Nigerians to use the spiritual seasons to offer prayers for national unity, economic recovery and sustained peace across the country. He noted that sincere prayers and good deeds during the period could help foster harmony and strengthen the bonds that hold the nation together.

He also encouraged religious leaders to promote interfaith dialogue and cooperation, stressing that the simultaneous fasting seasons present an opportunity for Muslims and Christians to collaborate in community development initiatives and charitable outreach.

Religious faithful across the country are expected to mark the beginning of Ramadan and Lent with special prayers, fasting and humanitarian activities. Observers say the coincidence of both seasons could further strengthen interfaith understanding and mutual respect.

Amuzu concluded his message by wishing Muslims and Christians a spiritually enriching period of fasting and reflection, expressing optimism that the lessons of sacrifice, tolerance and compassion learned during Ramadan and Lent would translate into lasting peace, unity and development in Nigeria.

Ramadan and Lent Begin Together: Amosun Urges Unity, Compassion Among Faithful

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

The Federal Commissioner representing Ogun State at the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Akeem Adetayo Amosun, has extended warm congratulations to Muslims and Christians on the simultaneous commencement of the 2026 Ramadan fast and the Christian Lenten season, both beginning on February 18.

In a goodwill message issued on Tuesday, Amosun described the convergence of the two sacred observances as a “unique spiritual moment” that calls for deeper reflection, unity and a renewed commitment to peaceful coexistence across religious lines.

He urged members of the Muslim community to embrace the core teachings of Ramadan—self-discipline, charity, and compassion—while encouraging Christians to observe Lent with humility, prayer and acts of kindness. According to him, both seasons present an opportunity for adherents of the two major faiths to strengthen moral values and contribute positively to society.

Amosun called on the Muslim Ummah to imbibe the exemplary virtues demonstrated by Prophet Muhammad, particularly his teachings on love, patience and generosity. He also encouraged Christians to emulate the selflessness and compassion of Jesus Christ as they journey through the 40-day Lenten period.

“The simultaneous observance of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder that, despite differences in faith traditions, we share common values of sacrifice, devotion, and service to humanity,” he said. “This period should inspire us to promote peace, extend support to the less privileged, and foster unity within our communities.”

The commissioner further appealed to Nigerians to use the spiritual seasons as a time to pray for national peace, economic stability and progress, noting that collective prayers and acts of goodwill can help strengthen national cohesion.

Religious leaders and faithful across the country are expected to mark the beginning of both Ramadan and Lent with special prayers, fasting, and charitable activities. Observers say the rare overlap of the two seasons offers an opportunity for interfaith dialogue and collaboration in community service initiatives.

Amosun concluded his message by wishing Muslims and Christians a spiritually fulfilling period of fasting and reflection, expressing hope that the lessons learned during Ramadan and Lent would translate into lasting harmony and development across the nation.

Oludotun Calls for Peace, Compassion as Ramadan, Lent Commence

As the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent commence today, the Ogun State Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun, FNSE, has called on residents of Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi Owode Federal Constituency, in Ogun State, and Nigerians at large to embrace prayers, self-discipline, and compassion for one another.

Engr. Oludotun made this known in his message to mark the beginning of the two sacred periods observed by Muslims and Christians.

The commissioner described Ramadan and Lent as seasons of deep reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal, urging adherents of both faiths to use the period to seek divine guidance for personal growth and national development.

Oludotun, who is also an aspirant for the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections, stressed that the lessons of patience, humility, love, and selflessness associated with the fasting periods are values urgently needed in leadership and governance.

He called on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity, and stability across communities, saying that religious harmony remains one of the country’s greatest strengths.

According to him, the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent is a reminder of shared values that should continue to bind citizens together irrespective of faith.

Engr. Oludotun also used the medium to encourage citizens to extend kindness to the less privileged, promote peaceful coexistence, and avoid actions capable of undermining harmony in society, particularly at a time when the nation is in need of healing and collective progress.

He prayed for strength and good health for all faithful observing the fasts and expressed optimism that the prayers offered during the period would usher in renewed hope, peace, and development for Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

The Forestry Commissioner therefore wished Muslims and Christians a spiritually rewarding Ramadan and Lenten season, calling on all to remain united and committed to building a better society.

Coalition condemns campaign of calumny against leadership of TANTITA Limited

The Coalition of Civil Rights Organizations for Good Governance has condemned the campaign of calumny directed at the leadership and management of TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited.

The group by its coordinator, Comrade Jude Ochiagha and Secretary General, Kolawole Abe, said it has observed a coordinated barrage of misleading media publications, sponsored commentaries, and calls for protest aimed at discrediting the integrity, competence, and operational mandate of TANTITA.

It said these attacks, couched in sensational narratives and unsubstantiated allegations, are nothing more than the desperate antics of known oil thieves, economic saboteurs, and their collaborators whose criminal enterprises have been significantly disrupted by the operational efficiency of TANTITA.

The group said: "It is a matter of public record that before the engagement of TANTITA by the Federal Government, crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism had reached alarming proportions in the Niger Delta, severely undermining Nigeria’s economy and threatening national security.

"However, since the company was entrusted with the critical responsibility of pipeline surveillance and protection in the Niger Delta region, there has been a marked improvement in oil production output, a drastic reduction in illegal bunkering activities, and enhanced collaboration among security stakeholders.

"TANTITA has demonstrated professionalism and commitment in working closely with the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other maritime security agencies to safeguard critical oil infrastructure.

"The company’s efforts have directly contributed to Nigeria’s ability to steadily meet its production quota and restore confidence in the nation’s oil and gas sector.

"It is therefore not surprising that individuals and groups whose illicit fortunes depended on the plunder of our national resources are now resorting to blackmail, misinformation, and incitement in a bid to regain lost ground.

"Their calls for protest against TANTITA are neither spontaneous nor altruistic; they are calculated moves designed to undermine national security and reverse the significant gains recorded in the fight against oil theft.

"As civil society organizations dedicated to good governance and the rule of law, we call on His Excellency, Bola Tinubu, relevant federal authorities, and critical stakeholders in the Niger Delta to remain vigilant and discerning.

"The Federal Government must not yield to pressure from criminal elements seeking to destabilize ongoing reforms and security interventions in the oil sector.

"We urge community leaders, youth groups, traditional institutions, and opinion leaders in the Niger Delta to resist being used as instruments of sabotage. The protection of oil infrastructure is a collective responsibility and a cornerstone of national development.

"The Coalition unequivocally reaffirms its support for the administration of President Bola Tinubu and all institutions genuinely committed to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic lifelines.

"We recognize and commend the resilience, courage, and patriotism of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, management, officers, and men of TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited.

"In light of the foregoing, we hereby pass a resounding Vote of Confidence on the Chairman, Vice Chairman, CEO, management, and all personnel of TANTITA Security Services.

"We commend their unwavering dedication to duty and their measurable contributions to the war against oil theft in Nigeria.

"We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to reject divisive propaganda, support lawful security initiatives, and stand united in defense of our national assets."

From Promise to Impact: Gov Abiodun SSA On New Media, Ojo Emmanuel Sponsors 100 Imeko-Afon Students for JAMB

Abeokuta, Ogun State — A personal birthday vow made in September 2023 has blossomed into a life-changing educational initiative, as a philanthropist from Imeko-Afon Local Government Area begins the sponsorship of 100 students for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

The initiative, spearheaded by SF Ojo Emmanuel Adediran, aims to support students drawn from all 10 wards in , providing them with free JAMB registration and structured academic tutorials designed to boost their chances of success in the highly competitive examination.

The first batch of selected students arrived in this week, marking the official commencement of the programme. Organisers describe the move as a milestone in transforming a promise into tangible action and expanding educational access for young people in the community.

Speaking on the motivation behind the initiative, Emmanuel emphasised that the gesture was rooted in a deep sense of responsibility toward youth development and equal opportunity. He noted that education remains one of the most effective tools for empowerment and social mobility, particularly in underserved communities.

“This is about more than paying for an examination,” he said. “It is about giving our students hope, confidence and the opportunity to compete fairly. When we invest in education, we invest in the future of our people and our nation.”

The programme is structured in two phases. The first phase covers free registration for the examination, removing the financial barrier that often prevents capable students from pursuing tertiary education. The second phase provides intensive tutorials and academic support aimed at preparing participants for optimal performance.

Organisers explained that the initiative is aligned with ongoing educational and human-capital development efforts at both federal and state levels. They noted that the programme complements the broader educational agenda championed by , and , whose policies continue to prioritise access to quality education and youth empowerment.

Community leaders and parents have welcomed the intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. Many noted that the rising cost of examination registration and tutorial support has made it increasingly difficult for families to support their children’s academic aspirations.

Beneficiary students, some of whom are the first in their families to pursue higher education, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. Several said the programme has not only eased financial pressure but also strengthened their determination to excel academically.

Education advocates say initiatives like this demonstrate the role individuals and community-based programmes can play in complementing government efforts to improve access to education, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

As the tutorial sessions get underway and more batches of students are expected to arrive in Abeokuta, Emmanuel reaffirmed his commitment to seeing the initiative through. He stressed that the goal is not merely to sponsor exams but to nurture ambition, confidence and long-term educational success.

“With the right support, our young people can achieve anything,” he said. “No willing and capable child should be left behind.”

The programme continues in the coming weeks, with organisers promising updates as students progress through the registration and tutorial phases. Community stakeholders say the initiative stands as a powerful example of grassroots investment in education and a model that could be replicated across other local government areas.

PoliticsGbajabiamila: The Man Whose Legislative Work Is Changing Nigeria's Educational L by AmeboFeeds(op): 12:06pm On Feb 11
GBAJABIAMILA: THE MAN WHOSE LEGISLATIVE WORK IS CHANGING NIGERIA'S EDUCATIONAL LANDSCAPE

By Toby Prince

In the very words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

This same view was echoed by Malcolm X, who asserted that “Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

While these quotes capture the essence of education as a tool for personal growth, societal change, and empowerment, they perhaps informed Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila's drive towards leveraging legislative representation as a viable tool for societal reconfiguration and educational reformation.

Today, the facts, as they say, speak for themselves.

Indeed, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila is no stranger to lawmaking. He has been making positive impact and driving national development for several years through effective legislation.

Fundamentally, Chief Femi has been instrumental in the sponsorship of numerous and wide-ranging Bills, with many already passed into law. During the 9th Assembly, as an astute and patriotic legislator, he sponsored a number of people-oriented Bills within his first year.

Notable among those Bills were the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Emergency Economic Stimulus Bill 2020 (Quarantine Act (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill 2020), and the Nigeria Local Content Development and Enforcement Bill, 2020.

Instrumentally, he also sponsored a number of Constitution alteration Bills, such as the Electric Power Sector Reform Act (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Physically-Challenged (Empowerment) Bill 2019, and the Presidential (Transition) Bill 2019.

Others include the Labour Act (Amendment) Bill 2019, the Employees (Unpaid Wages Prohibition) Bill 2019, and the Federal Highways Act (Amendment) Bill 2019.

Although it did not see the light of day at the time, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila in 2016 first introduced what is known as the Students Loans (Access to Higher Education) Bill, later adding security-focused legislation such as the Armed Forces Act (Amendment) Bill 2021 and the Police Act (Amendment) Bill 2021.

Very few Nigerians, especially those outside certain circles, are aware that Rt. Hon. Femi was instrumental in the establishment of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps through his sponsorship of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Act (Amendment) Bills 2021.

An ardent anti-corruption fighter, he introduced the EFCC Act (Amendment) Bill 2021, the ICPC Act (Amendment) Bill 2021, along with the Customs and Excise Management Act (Amendment) Bill 2021, the ECOWAS Small Arms Convention (Ratification and Enforcement) Bill 2021, and the National Security Agencies Act (Amendment) Bill 2021.

A committed social justice and security advocate, he pushed for the empowerment and reinvigoration of the Armed Forces through the Armed Forces of Nigeria Trust Fund Bill 2021.

Irked by the funding deficit in the agricultural value chain, Rt. Hon. Femi sponsored the National Agricultural Development Fund Bill 2021.

An objective patriot, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila sponsored the South West, North Central, North West, and South East Development Commission Bills 2021. He was also the first to design a technologically driven archive and study centre for the National Assembly, through the establishment of a National Assembly Library by sponsoring the National Assembly Library Trust Fund Bill 2021.

Rt. Hon. Femi's diverse legislative inputs, with solid impacts, also include contributions to the reformation of the health sector, sponsoring legislations such as the National Electronic Health Record System Bill, and strong advocacy for the amendment of the NAFDAC Act to include provisions for a Nigeria Food Safety and Hygiene Surveillance Corps, as well as an amendment to the National Health Act of 2014—laws he believed were obsolete.

Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila's legislative impact is made even more profound by his flagship sponsorship of the Student Loan Scheme.

The bill, first introduced in 2016 and signed into law in June 2023, created the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, offering interest-free loans to indigent students in public tertiary institutions.

It covers tuition, textbooks, and other essential fees, with repayment starting two years after employment, thereby easing the financial burden on families across the country. It has greatly mitigated the difficulties faced by both students and parents in the pursuit of higher education in the country.

Through the introduction of the Student Loan Fund, the pursuit of education has become accessible and inclusive for all citizens, without discrimination of any kind and the elimination of socioeconomic barriers.

Weaving an intricate tapestry of national governance and influencing rapid catalytic social change, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila, through a confluence of insightful and visionary leadership, has, by his initiative and resilience, eliminated the harsh financial conditions that precariously remained a stumbling block to the pursuit of education by millions of Nigerians.

He has also brought enduring substantial leverage, solace, and a sustainable financial lifeline to millions of families, resonating renewed hope.

His visionary reform initiative through the Students Loan Fund implicates all conversations surrounding the entire educational sector, changing narratives from 'whether' a child should go to school to 'how' the country can consistently fund an all-inclusive higher education, making Rt. Hon.

Femi a beacon and cornerstone of definitive equity, a reason for assured skills for future generations of Nigeria, and a vanguard for predictable development for a prosperous Nigeria.

His paradigm shift in educational funding—where the burden of payment is on the government—underscores the socialist posture of the All Progressives Congress and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Tinubu administration, as it also makes way for more citizens to pursue higher-quality education, devoid of the constraints of inordinate financial demands, ensuring that education, in the context of the President Tinubu-led government, becomes instead of a privilege a fundamental right accessible to all, thereby emboldening the concept of free higher education.

His dedication and strong commitment resonate with the imperatives of education as a cornerstone of national development, the empowerment of future generations, and a necessary tool for fostering accountability, responsibility, and patriotism, while ensuring the elimination of vices and insecurity.

The involvement of university authorities in the entire process is not just industrious and innovative but reawakens a stronger sense of responsibility, while students become direct stakeholders in the education project, demystifying any hidden agenda in the training of Nigerian children and promoting adaptive synergy.

To mitigate the risk of default in a high-unemployment environment such as ours, the law has introduced inbuilt, workable, time-tested safeguards, recovery mechanisms, and phased repayment schedules, implementable only after the graduand is employed.

Presently, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila has become a defining force in Nigeria's education reform, and his Student Loan Act is the flagship of that legacy.

The impact is not just visible but far-reaching, with the consensus that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) is successful, given the disbursement of over ₦161 billion to more than 864,000 students, with over 1.3 million applications recorded, showing massive demand and a growing sense of hope for access to higher education.

The 2024 amendment removed the stringent family income cap and guarantor requirements, expanded the scope to include living expenses (upkeep allowances), and introduced loan forgiveness in cases of death or misfortune, making the scheme more inclusive and humane.

Regionally, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has recorded unbiased impact, with disbursements reaching institutions nationwide.

The North has been among the biggest beneficiaries, while the South East has lagged in some cases due to verification delays in certain institutions. The South West and South South have seen appreciable disbursements, with leading universities recording substantial allocations for thousands of students.

Aside from NELFUND, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila has been a consistent advocate for girl-child education and higher academic standards for public officers. His aim is to eliminate mediocrity from public offices and entrench standardization capable of leading to holistic development.

Consequently, he has promoted the Back to School JumpStart, a digital learning initiative that provides laptops, tablets, and sanitation tools to various schools in Surulere and other zones.

Certainly, Rt. Hon. Gbajabiamila is a beacon of educational renaissance, whose advocacy goes far beyond granting just loans to students but creating a desirable ambience for learning—such as improving educational infrastructure, enhancing teacher training and retraining, and increasing sustained funding for the sector—all leading to a robust and more holistic transformation that aligns with 21st-century global benchmarks.

Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila's leadership inspires confidence that our nation, in all areas of national development, is capable of navigating the complexities of implementing any ambitious program successfully, thereby redefining the future prospects of the country and our perspectives.

Abeokuta North LGA Rebuts PUNCH Report, Clarifies Status and Services of Ikereku Health Post

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

The Abeokuta North Local Government Authority has issued a detailed clarification in response to a recent PUNCH Healthwise publication concerning the condition and operations of the Ikereku Health Post, describing parts of the report as misleading and not reflective of the facility’s approved scope of services.

In a statement made available to the press, the council acknowledged the role of the media in drawing attention to rural healthcare challenges but stressed the need for accuracy in reporting, particularly on issues relating to staffing, service capacity, and clinical practice at the Ikereku facility.

Historical Context and Operational Status

According to the local government, Ikereku Health Post is one of the oldest public health facilities in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, with origins dating back to the colonial era in the 1940s and 1950s. Over time, the facility reportedly suffered prolonged inactivity due to infrastructural decline, manpower shortages, and population shifts.

Officials explained that the health post had been closed for an extended period before being reopened under the current administration to provide basic daytime primary healthcare services on a limited scale, pending phased upgrading.

The council also noted that the Ikereku community currently has a sparse population due to rural–urban migration, with fewer than ten occupied residential buildings, a factor it says influenced the current level of services available at the facility.

Clarification on Maternity and Night Services

A key issue addressed in the statement concerns claims that the health post conducts night-time deliveries under unsafe conditions. The Abeokuta North Local Government Authority firmly denied this, stating that the facility is neither designated nor staffed to provide 24-hour services or emergency obstetric care.

The council emphasised that Ikereku Health Post operates strictly during daytime hours and has no official night-duty roster. As a basic health post—also known as a dispensary—the facility is designed to provide treatment for minor ailments, immunisation, health education, disease prevention, and referrals.

It is typically staffed by a Junior Community Health Extension Worker and a health attendant, consistent with national primary healthcare guidelines. The authority stressed that the facility is not equipped or authorised to function as a maternity centre.

Pregnant women in labour, particularly at night, are expected to be referred to better-equipped facilities such as the Ilewo-Orile Primary Health Care Centre, located approximately one kilometre from Ikereku.

Reports alleging that deliveries were conducted at night within the health post using torchlights were described by the council as contrary to official policy and not reflective of approved practice. The authority stated that any such incidents, if they occurred, did not take place within the health post itself but may have happened elsewhere in the community outside the facility’s control.

Staffing and Safety Considerations

The local government maintained that the absence of resident doctors, midwives, or 24-hour coverage at the facility is not due to neglect but is a deliberate safety decision pending infrastructural upgrades and manpower expansion.

Current staffing includes a Community Health Extension Worker and a health attendant who resides near the facility. Officials said this arrangement aligns with the approved scope of services for a health post serving a small population.

Infrastructure Challenges

The council acknowledged longstanding infrastructure challenges at the facility, including lack of electricity and water supply, attributing them to community-wide power outages and equipment failure over several years.

However, it stated that these issues are being addressed under the Ogun State Government’s phased “One-Roof” Primary Healthcare revitalisation programme. The initiative aims to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the state through gradual upgrading of facilities, improved staffing, and restoration of essential services.

The authority explained that the limitations in electricity and water supply are among the reasons night-time services and deliveries are not permitted at the health post.

Community Experiences and Informal Support

While recognising that residents have experienced hardship and historical neglect, the local government said some of the narratives reported may relate to events spanning several years rather than current operational policy.

It also acknowledged the humanitarian efforts of retired health workers and community volunteers who have provided informal assistance to residents in emergencies. However, it cautioned that such voluntary actions should not be interpreted as official health system operations or endorsed clinical practice.

Commitment to Improvement

The Abeokuta North Local Government reiterated its commitment to improving primary healthcare delivery in the area in collaboration with the Ogun State Government. Planned efforts include phased revitalisation of facilities, expansion of maternal and child health services, and ensuring that no health centre operates beyond its safe and approved capacity.

Officials confirmed that Ikereku Health Post remains on the roadmap for upgrading. Until then, the council said it will continue to prioritise patient safety, proper referral systems, and transparent engagement with the community.

Conclusion

While the recent publication has drawn attention to the broader challenges of rural healthcare delivery, the Abeokuta North Local Government Authority insists it is necessary to correct what it described as the false impression that Ikereku Health Post conducts night-time deliveries under unsafe conditions.

According to the council, the facility operates strictly within defined limits and approved guidelines. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, continuous improvement, and the health and wellbeing of residents across the local government area.

How Toyin Amuzu Foundation Is Strengthening Small Businesses in Abeokuta South

By Tolu Bankole

In many parts of Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, many small businesses have traditionally operated at the margins of the formal economy, unregistered, under-capitalised and vulnerable to daily economic shocks. For years, traders and micro-entrepreneurs relied largely on informal structures, limiting their access to financial services, expansion opportunities and long-term stability.

About a year ago, the Toyin Amuzu Foundation (TAF) set out to alter that reality. Through a structured empowerment programme, the foundation registered 100 small businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), providing beneficiaries with formal business identities and complementary support aimed at improving sustainability and growth.

The initiative was genuine and was championed by Chief Toyin Amuzu, an entrepreneur, estate developer, Egba chief and chieftain of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), who described the programme as a non-profit, non-governmental and non-political intervention focused on improving livelihoods and stimulating grassroots economic activities within Egbaland.

Findings from visits to several beneficiary locations across Abeokuta South suggest that the intervention has yielded tangible results.

Mrs. Motunrayo Dada, one of the beneficiaries, now operates a registered business supported with a POS machine, a kiosk and initial cash assistance provided by the foundation. According to her, the formalisation of her business has increased customer confidence, improved daily turnover and given her operation a sense of permanence previously lacking.

Beyond individual accounts, physical observation at beneficiary locations reveals a pattern of gradual but consistent growth.

At Kehinde Olabisi’s kiosk, the impact of the programme is particularly visible. What started as a modest POS-based business has expanded to include the sale of clothing items, a diversification that has significantly boosted income and strengthened business resilience.

In another location, Madam Taiwo Osuntoyinbo, already a known trader before the intervention, has experienced noticeable improvement in sales volume and customer reach. Observers note that while her business was stable prior to the programme, access to financial tools and formal registration has enhanced its scale and efficiency.

For Onifade Olusola, whose operation is limited to POS services, the progress has been steady. Though maintaining a single line of business, he has recorded increased patronage and improved earnings, pointing to the value of formalisation and access to modern payment systems.

Several other beneficiaries out of the 100, including Madam Basirat Oyebo, Azisat Raji, Madam Adijat Kushimo, Suliat Abolade, Ganiyat Idowu, among others also expressed appreciation for the foundation’s intervention. Many noted that CAC registration, combined with POS access, has helped reposition their businesses, attract new customers and improve daily cash flow.

Speaking on the initiative, Chief Amuzu said the foundation’s focus on entrepreneurship stems from the belief that small and medium-scale enterprises remain critical to economic stability and job creation.

He added that the business registration drive is part of a broader set of interventions by the Toyin Amuzu Foundation, which include free interest loans for entrepreneurs, youth and women empowerment programmes, community water projects and other socio-economic initiatives.

According to him, the goal is not merely to provide temporary assistance but to create pathways for long-term sustainability, enabling beneficiaries to move from informal survival businesses to structured enterprises capable of growth and expansion.

Economic observers note that initiatives such as this assume greater relevance at a time when national economic pressures continue to affect household incomes and small enterprises. By focusing on practical support formal registration, access to financial tools and basic infrastructure, the Toyin Amuzu Foundation’s approach demonstrates how private-sector-led interventions can complement public efforts at economic development.

As the beneficiaries continue to build on the foundation laid by the programme, the initiative offers a compelling example of how targeted grassroots empowerment can translate into measurable outcomes, turning informal hustle into structured enterprise and renewed economic hope across communities in Abeokuta South.

Senate Committee Commends Tinubu on Launch of National Halal Economy Strategy to Tap $7.7trn Global Market

The Senate Committee on Finance has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for launching Nigeria's National Halal Economy Strategy, describing it as a bold and strategic move to position the country within the lucrative global halal market, estimated at $7.7 trillion.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, the committee praised the initiative as timely and aligned with international best practices. Several countries—including the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Brazil, Thailand, and Singapore—have successfully used halal frameworks to boost manufacturing, agricultural exports, financial markets, and foreign investment.

The committee highlighted Nigeria's strong advantages for success in this space, including its vast agricultural resources, large domestic market, youthful population, growing manufacturing sector, and expanding services industry.

It noted that the strategy fits seamlessly into the Tinubu administration's broader economic reforms, such as boosting non-oil revenue, diversifying exports, creating jobs, supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and increasing foreign exchange earnings.
President Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, officially unveiled the strategy on Thursday, February 6, 2026, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The framework, developed in collaboration with Saudi Arabia's Halal Products Development Company (HPDC) following a bilateral agreement signed in February 2025 at the Makkah Halal Forum, aims to enhance quality standards, certification processes, and competitiveness across sectors like food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, tourism, and ethical finance.

The committee described the strategy as inclusive, market-driven, and globally oriented, while fully respecting Nigeria's diverse and pluralistic society.

It is projected to contribute significantly to the economy, with estimates suggesting it could add around $1.5 billion to Nigeria's GDP by 2027 and unlock billions more in domestic value over the coming decade through expanded exports and investment.

The Senate Committee on Finance pledged its full legislative support, oversight, and cooperation to ensure smooth implementation, regulatory clarity, and long-term fiscal sustainability in the national interest.

"This decisive step reinforces Nigeria’s readiness to adopt proven international models, unlock new economic frontiers, and establish itself as a competitive player in the evolving global economy," the statement concluded.

2027 Race: Grassroots Backing Grows for Engr. Taiwo Oludotun in Abeokuta North/Obafemi-Owode/Odeda Constituency

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, residents across Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode and Odeda Federal Constituency have begun to express growing anticipation over the possible emergence of Engr. Taiwo Oludotun as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the House of Representatives.

Across communities in the constituency, supporters and grassroots stakeholders describe Oludotun as a familiar figure whose philanthropic outreach and community-based initiatives have earned him goodwill among residents. Many of his admirers refer to him by the nickname “Olorun Adugbo,” a Yoruba expression translated as “the hope of the common masses,” in recognition of what they describe as his support for vulnerable citizens and his consistent presence at the community level.

Community leaders and youth groups in parts of Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode and Odeda say they believe his potential candidacy would energize political participation and strengthen representation across the federal constituency. According to them, Oludotun’s engagements in empowerment initiatives, humanitarian assistance and local development efforts have built a strong rapport with residents across wards in the three local government areas.

Observers note that while party primaries are still some time away, early endorsements and expressions of support from grassroots groups often shape political conversations in the lead-up to elections. Within APC circles in the constituency, discussions about credible and community-focused representation have intensified, with Oludotun’s name frequently mentioned among those being considered for the party’s ticket.

Supporters argue that if given the mandate in 2027, Oludotun’s representation would reflect the interests of all communities within the federal constituency, cutting across political, social and economic lines. They say they expect inclusive leadership that prioritizes infrastructure, youth empowerment, economic growth and social welfare.

Political analysts, however, note that the road to the 2027 general election will involve party primaries, consultations and wider political alignments. They emphasize that while early grassroots enthusiasm can signal momentum, the eventual candidate will emerge through internal party processes and broader political dynamics.

For now, conversations across Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode and Odeda continue to focus on the kind of leadership residents desire in the next electoral cycle. Among those being discussed, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun remains a prominent name, with supporters expressing optimism that his track record of community engagement could translate into broader political support if he secures the APC ticket.

As the 2027 elections draw closer, stakeholders in the constituency say they hope for a transparent and inclusive process that will produce candidates capable of delivering effective representation and development for the people of the federal constituency.
