Coalition urges IGP to rebuild public confidence on Nigerian police …Seeks investigation of AIG Moshood time in Lagos The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in collaboration with the Centre for Citizens’ Rights has urged the Inspector General of Police to rebuild public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force. Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the President of the Coalition, Adeyemi Olorunsogo and its Secretary, Kolawole Abe Emmanuel, said Nigerians expect professionalism, impartiality, and accountability from the leadership of the Force. The Coalition expressed concern over consistent and clear repeated interference of the Lagos police command in matters that are purely civil in nature, and actions that suggest a troubling pattern of bias in the handling of sensitive disputes. It said: “Over the past few weeks, our coalition has repeatedly drawn the attention of the public to the disturbing conduct of the Nigeria Police Force in Lagos State, particularly under the leadership of the immediate past Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olorundare Jimoh Moshood. “We, therefore, call on the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police to exercise utmost caution in the deployment and assignment of senior officers, particularly in situations where their previous conduct has generated serious public concern. “We note that Mr. Moshood has now been posted away from Lagos. We also acknowledge the appointment of the new Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, whose professional reputation in intelligence-led policing, crime management and strategic leadership has earned him public respect. “In view of this new leadership and in the hope that professionalism and accountability will define the next phase of policing in Nigeria, this coalition has resolved to suspend its earlier planned protest until further notice. “In situations where the police ought to remain neutral and professional, the conduct of the former Commissioner appeared to tilt the scale in favour of certain interests, thereby undermining public confidence in the impartiality of law enforcement. “In February 2026, without a valid court order, without a formal invitation, and without a lawful warrant of arrest, the former Commissioner reportedly declared Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi wanted for murder. “This declaration arose in the context of a family and community land dispute involving factions within the Ajiran community. Allegations bordering on murder is a very sensitive one as it does not only speak to law but sanctity of life and one accused of such if not cleared carries a life time burden. “Following that declaration, the property of Alhaji Akanbi was reportedly destroyed by individuals who allegedly operated under the protection and watch of officers of the Lagos State Police Command. “The Nigeria Police Force must never be seen as taking sides in private civil disputes. The integrity of law enforcement depends on neutrality, professionalism, and respect for the rule of law. “Declaring a citizen wanted without a lawful warrant, proper investigation, or court order raises serious concerns about abuse of police authority and must never become a precedent in a democratic society. “While promotions within the Police Force fall under the authority of the Police Service Commission, we believe that officers whose actions have generated significant public concern should be carefully scrutinized before being entrusted with greater responsibility. “The appointment of the new Inspector-General of Police presents an opportunity to rebuild public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force. Nigerians expect professionalism, impartiality, and accountability from the leadership of the Force. “Civil society exists to hold power accountable. Our intervention is not political; it is a duty to protect the rule of law and defend the rights of citizens. We wish the new Inspector-General of Police success in his assignment and urge him to live up to the expectations of millions of Nigerians who desire a police force that is professional, impartial, and accountable.”

“New Petrol Import Permits May Reverse Nigeria’s Push for Domestic Refining and Increase Pressure on Foreign Reserve” — Energy Policy Group Tells President Tinubu An energy policy group has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the wider economic consequences of newly issued permits allowing marketers to import petrol into the country, warning that the move could undermine Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen domestic refining and stabilise the economy. In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the Energy Transparency and Market Justice Initiative (ETMJI) said the approvals granted by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) could produce unintended consequences if not carefully managed. The group’s president, Dr. Salako Kareem, said Nigeria was at a delicate moment in its energy transition and that policy choices made now would determine whether the country finally escapes its decades-long dependence on imported refined petroleum products. Kareem said while the regulator’s responsibility to guarantee adequate fuel supply is understood, expanding import permissions at this stage could weaken the policy direction required to encourage local production and long-term sector stability. “Our respectful appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is that decisions concerning petrol importation must be carefully weighed against their long-term economic consequences,” Kareem said. “Nigeria has spent decades trying to overcome the paradox of being a major crude oil producer while relying heavily on imported refined products. Any policy action that appears to reopen the floodgates of importation may slow down the progress that has been made toward strengthening domestic refining capacity.” He warned that increasing petrol imports could place additional pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves, especially at a time when the government is pursuing difficult economic reforms aimed at stabilising the naira and improving fiscal discipline. “For many years, the country has lost enormous volumes of foreign exchange importing petroleum products that could ideally be refined locally,” Kareem said. “If import volumes begin to rise again, the demand for foreign currency will inevitably grow. This could place renewed strain on the naira and undermine the broader economic stabilisation programme that the government is currently pursuing.” The group also warned that excessive reliance on imported petrol could create opportunities for product dumping and the entry of substandard fuel into the Nigerian market, a challenge that has troubled regulators and consumers in the past. According to Kareem, Nigeria’s downstream sector has historically struggled with quality control issues whenever importation becomes widespread, because imported fuel often travels through multiple intermediaries before reaching domestic depots. “One of the lessons from the past is that when imports dominate the supply chain, the market sometimes becomes vulnerable to the dumping of inferior petroleum products,” he said. “This not only creates regulatory complications but also exposes Nigerian consumers to fuels that may damage vehicles, affect industrial machinery and ultimately impose hidden economic costs on the country.” He added that encouraging domestic refining and strengthening local supply chains would provide better product traceability and improve overall market transparency. Kareem stressed that the group’s intervention was not intended as criticism of the NMDPRA, noting that regulators must often make complex decisions to prevent supply disruptions in a volatile energy market. However, he urged the federal government to ensure that short-term supply management does not weaken long-term national objectives in the petroleum sector. “We recognise that the regulator has the responsibility to ensure that Nigerians do not experience fuel shortages, and that duty is extremely important,” he said. “But at the same time, policy coherence is essential. The country must avoid sending signals that could discourage investment in local refining or create uncertainty about Nigeria’s commitment to energy self-sufficiency.” Kareem said Nigeria now has a rare opportunity to restructure its downstream petroleum industry in a way that strengthens domestic production, protects foreign exchange reserves and builds long-term industrial capacity. He urged the president to ensure that the country’s regulatory framework reflects that strategic vision. “Our appeal is simply for policy alignment. If Nigeria truly wants to build a resilient energy economy, then every major decision in the downstream sector must reinforce the goal of reducing import dependence, strengthening domestic production and protecting the country’s economic stability,” Kareem noted. The group added that careful policy coordination between regulators and the presidency would help ensure that Nigeria avoids repeating the costly fuel import cycles that have historically drained public resources and weakened the national economy.

Mob Attacks Wanted Robbery Suspect In Enugu, Police Recover Pump-Action Gun A suspected armed robber who had been on the police wanted list in Enugu State was severely beaten by an angry mob after he was caught with a pump-action gun at a market square, police sources said. The suspect, identified as Friday Onwujekwu, popularly known as “Nwatico,” was reportedly apprehended by residents at the Eke Market Square in Akiyi, Umulokpa area of Uzo Uwani Local Government Area on Friday afternoon. According to a situation report obtained on Sunday, the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on March 13, 2026, after the police received a distress call that the suspect had been captured by members of the public and was being lynched. Onwujekwu had been declared wanted by the state police command following an earlier attack on a member of a local neighbourhood watch group. Police sources said that on January 10, 2026, the suspect allegedly attacked Okechukwu Dennis Okoaku at Awkunato Village in Uzo Uwani LGA and dispossessed him of a pump-action gun before fleeing the area. After months on the run, the suspect was reportedly sighted at the market square while still in possession of the stolen weapon, leading to his capture by residents. “The suspect who had been on the run was caught at Eke Market Square in Akiyi Umulokpa while armed with the same pump-action gun he earlier stole. He was being lynched by an irate mob before police intervened,” a police source said. The Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where they rescued the suspect from the mob. However, he had already sustained varying degrees of injuries from the beating. The suspect was initially rushed to the Police Clinic in Enugu for urgent treatment but was later referred to the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Ituku-Ozalla, where he is currently receiving medical care. Police authorities said the case has been transferred to the Command’s Crack Squad in Enugu for further investigation. Meanwhile, security sources noted that the general security situation in the state remains calm, with police continuing aggressive patrols and monitoring across communities.

APC leaders, members demand change of baton in Abeokuta North State Constituency as Omo-Ade declares ambition, pledges to unseat Tella Scores of leaders, elders and members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in both Ikereku and Imala Districts of the Oke-Ogun Region of Abeokuta North State Constituency have demanded a change of baton, asking for fresh blood to represent them at the Ogun State House of Assembly come 2027. The leaders, elders and members of APC drawn from Electoral Wards 13, 14, 15 and 16 of Abeokuta North, converged on Friday at Egba Oke-Ogun Council of Baales and Chiefs Hall at Idiya-Rounda, Abeokuta to deliberate and receive Hon. Yisa Ismaila Adebayo as APC Aspirant from Ward 16, who is contesting to replace Hon Babatunde Tella from Abeokuta North State Constituency. Speaking on the need for APC to have a quality representation from Abeokuta North State Constituency at Ogun State Assembly, Chief Sunday Oyatope, a former Councillor and APC Leader, said the time had come for the State Constituency a responsible and responsive representative that will not only deliver the dividends of democracy to the people, but will also have listening ears. Chief Oyatope said despite the efforts of the party men and women in ensuring that Hon. Babatunde Tella emerge as Abeokuta North State Constituency Representative at the State House of Assembly, nothing was forthcoming from him to a large number of party men, women and the residents of the Area. Also, Mr Sunday Afolabi, former Secretary to the Local Government, Abeokuta North Local Government, noted that the people had had enough failed promises from Hon Babatunde Tella, saying tbrough the new Aspirant, Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, "We are going to do what they (Hon Tella and Co) failed to do. They want to impose on us and we don't want imposition this time around. Let's play the politics the way it should be." While Mrs Oluwatoyin Fadipe from Ward 15, said she had initially written off working with any politicians in the 2027 General Elections based on her ugly experiences from the like of Hon. Babatunde Tella, but with Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, she would gladly work again for APC in the next polls, considering the personality and character of Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo. She said, "I want to thank those that invited me here today, because I have done lots for the Constituency but nothing was forthcoming from those we have been electing. When Hon. Tella was coming on board, he told us to work for him without giving us anything. At the end of the day, there wasn't anything from him to us, up till now. "All I know is that the political office is not for one person only. But, we can only beg you (new APC Aspirant, Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo) not to use and dump us like Hon Tella did for us. The politics we are doing now in Oke-Ogun is that of selfishness and that is not good politics. Everybody should be carried along in your programmes when you are elected Lawmaker, representing our Constituency." Echoing the political sentiment of Mrs Fadipe, another APC member from Ward 13, Mrs Funke Obasanmi, noted that the 2027 General elections would offer them the opportunity to seperate the wheat from the chaff by electing the right person for the job, alleging some politicians are moving around at the eleventh hour but the party leaders, elders and members had zero the minds against such a move. "There have been bringing around money at the eleventh hour to give us, but we won't collect their money. We are all mobilising and voting for you (Hon Yisa Ismaila Adebayo) come 2027." For Chief Salimon Majekodunmi, Chairman, Idiya-Rounda Community Development Association (CDA) and Ekerin, Egba Oke-Ogun Council of Baales and Chiefs, the APC should look inward and allow real primary elections to be conducted in order to know who is the real candidate that will follow the manifesto of the APC and help President Bola Tinubu to win his re-election as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. But, Chief Semiu Akintade Akogun Olorunda, asked the Ikereku District of Oke-Ogun not to repeat the mistake they made in 2023 by electing Hon Babatunde Tella, saying: "It has been the Ikereku District that has been producing Assembly members since and you (Ikereku District) mustn't get it wrongly this time because if you do, Imala District won't allow you some other time." Meanwhile, both Hon Wale Ojelabi from Ward 14 and Elder Micheal Awofe Oladipupo from Ward 16, confirmed that with the set of leaders, elders and members selected across the nooks and crannies of the 16 Wards that make up Abeokuta North State Constituency working for Hon. Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, the elections - both Primary and General elections, are as good as won. "You will be guided and guarded by God to become the Lawmaker, representing our Constituency in Abeokuta North. We have selected the best across all the 16 Wards. We know that you be brought to Oke-Mosan State Assembly by God's Grace. But, don't deceive us like Hon Tella. We know you are capable but don't forget your manifesto and pledges to all of us when you are eventually elected as Lawmaker, representing Abeokuta North State Constituency." OmoAde Media Team

The Professional Diploma programmes are designed to strengthen the capacity of professionals already working within cooperative institutions and related sectors. “Our Skill Acquisition programmes, on the other hand, are focused on equipping individuals with practical technical skills that enable them to become self-reliant and economically productive. Together, these programmes represent a holistic approach to education that integrates knowledge, skills, and entrepreneurship.” According to him, one of the greatest challenges facing many developing economies today is the gap between formal education and practical skills required in the labour market. He noted that Lagos State Cooperative College is responding to this challenge by strengthening its technical and vocational training programmes. “I am pleased to report that our flagship Technical Skill-Up Programme, launched in 2025, is already making significant strides in this regard. The programme is designed to empower participants with practical competencies in key areas such as Electrical Installation and Maintenance, Welding and Fabrication, and Plumbing & Pipefitting, leading to self-employment, small business development, and sustainable livelihoods. “The first cohort of trainees have successfully completed the intensive training phase and is now preparing to embark on a three-month Industrial Attachment to gain real-world experience. Following this, they will sit for the internationally recognized City & Guilds certification examination, validating their skills to a global standard. “Furthermore, the second batch of trainees commenced their own journey in January 2026 and have shown tremendous promise, recently benefiting from an exposure visit to the facilities of our technical partner, the Henry Karll Technical Training Centre, Badagry. “This initiative is a clear demonstration of our determination to ensure that the College becomes not just an academic institution, but a centre of excellence for technical skills development and cooperative entrepreneurship, directly contributing to workforce development in Lagos State “Dear matriculating students, today you are beginning a journey that will shape your future in profound ways. The education you receive here will equip you with knowledge, skills, and values that will define your role in society. However, the success of this journey will depend largely on your attitude, discipline, and commitment to excellence. “You must remember that education is not only about acquiring certificates. It is about developing the capacity to think critically, solve problems, innovate, and contribute positively to society.”

Missiles and Markets: The Struggle for Global Economic Influence Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo In the complex landscape of modern geopolitics, economic power and military power often intersect. The statement that “Iran is controlling the world's economy while the United States of America is busy throwing missiles up and down” reflects a growing perception among some observers that economic leverage—particularly in energy markets—may be as influential as military force. While the claim is debatable, recent global events show that Iran’s strategic position in the global energy system can significantly affect the world economy, even as the United States remains deeply involved in military conflicts. Iran’s Strategic Position in the Global Economy Iran occupies a critical position in the global energy landscape. The country possesses some of the largest fossil-fuel reserves in the world, including the third-largest proven oil reserves and the second-largest natural gas reserves globally. This resource wealth gives Iran significant potential influence over global energy supply and pricing. More importantly, Iran’s geographical location gives it leverage over one of the world’s most important energy corridors: the Strait of Hormuz. Around 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through this narrow shipping route. Any disruption in this region—whether due to political tensions or military confrontation—can immediately affect global energy prices and economic stability. Recent conflicts in the Middle East have demonstrated how this leverage works in practice. Escalating tensions involving Iran have disrupted oil shipments, increased energy prices, and forced global institutions to release emergency oil reserves to stabilize markets. When energy prices surge, the ripple effects extend worldwide, affecting inflation, transportation costs, and industrial production. The United States and the Projection of Military Power While Iran’s influence is often tied to energy and regional geopolitics, the United States remains the world’s dominant military power. The U.S. maintains hundreds of military bases around the world and frequently deploys its forces in international conflicts to protect allies, counter perceived threats, and maintain global stability. Critics argue that this focus on military intervention diverts attention from economic diplomacy and global economic competition. Military operations can be expensive and politically controversial, sometimes overshadowing economic strategies that might provide longer-term influence. However, the United States still plays a central role in the global financial system. The U.S. dollar remains the dominant reserve currency, and American financial institutions, technology companies, and multinational corporations shape much of the world’s economic activity. Therefore, despite military engagements abroad, the U.S. continues to wield enormous economic power. Iran’s Economic Limitations Despite its strategic energy position, it would be inaccurate to say that Iran “controls” the world’s economy. In reality, Iran’s economy faces serious challenges. Decades of sanctions, limited foreign investment, and political isolation have restricted its participation in global markets. Studies show that prolonged confrontation with Western countries has reduced Iran’s trade integration and foreign investment, slowing its economic growth. Additionally, significant portions of Iran’s domestic economy are controlled by powerful state-linked institutions such as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which oversees large sectors of industry and infrastructure. While this consolidation provides internal control, it can also reduce efficiency and limit broader economic development. Economic Influence vs. Military Power The broader debate reflected in the statement highlights an important global reality: economic influence is becoming as significant as military strength. Control over resources, trade routes, technology, and financial systems can shape international relations just as much as armies and weapons. Iran’s ability to influence global energy markets shows how resource control can affect the global economy. Meanwhile, the United States continues to rely on a combination of military capability, economic dominance, and diplomatic alliances to maintain its global role. Conclusion The idea that Iran controls the world’s economy while the United States focuses on military action oversimplifies a much more complicated geopolitical landscape. Iran does hold strategic leverage due to its energy resources and location, which can influence global markets during periods of tension. However, the United States still commands the world’s most powerful financial, technological, and military systems. In today’s interconnected world, true global influence is rarely defined by a single factor. Instead, it emerges from the interplay of economic power, military capability, strategic geography, and international alliances. Both Iran and the United States demonstrate different aspects of this complex balance—one through energy leverage and regional strategy, the other through global financial dominance and military reach. ©️ Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo #amebonewshub #amebotvng

2027: Tension Rises in Abeokuta North as Oke-Ogun Leaders Debate Political Representation Fresh cracks may be emerging within political ranks in the Oke-Ogun Community of Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State following a recent meeting of community and party leaders, an undercover investigation has revealed. As reported, the meeting which was said to have been attended by several political leaders, and party faithful from different wards in the Oke-Ogun area, reportedly exposed deep-seated grievances over political representation, distribution of political appointments and the next House of Assembly race in the constituency. Sources who attended the meeting who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent that the gathering, initially convened to discuss unity and political direction within the community, but many of the attendees perceived the gathering as a strategic move aimed at rallying Oke-Ogun leaders behind the second term ambition of the lawmaker, representing Abeokuta North in the House of Assembly, Hon. Tunde Tella. Information had it that some leaders claimed the gathering looked like an attempt to win leaders over with money, which they said Hon. Tella had not been used to support grassroots political activities in the community in the past three years, therefore turned into a heated debate as some members openly questioned the leadership and political ambitions of the lawmaker, Hon. Tunde Tella. According to insiders, some members alleged that the interests of Egba indigenes in the Oke-Ogun community had not been adequately protected in the allocation of political appointments and empowerment opportunities, accused the lawmaker of adopting what they described as a “divide-and-rule” approach to politics within the Oke-Ogun Community. A source present at the meeting claimed that the situation became more intense when a female participant, identified as Funke Obasami, reportedly voiced strong objections and insisted that members should openly express their concerns rather than accept what she described as attempts to pacify aggrieved stakeholders. Despite efforts by some leaders to calm tensions and persuade members to maintain unity, sources disclosed that the meeting also witnessed subtle declarations of interest by some individuals believed to be eyeing the Abeokuta North State Assembly seat. One participant from Ward 15 was said to have hinted that he might support an aspirant from another Egba community if consensus could not be reached within Oke-Ogun. Insiders further alleged that discussions during and after the meeting also touched on concerns about changes in party structures at the ward level, with claims that some executives had been replaced with loyalists particularly from the Egbado extraction of Oke Ogun against the Egba's, a development that some stakeholders reportedly described as highly disciminatory and controversial.. Sources also hinted that several aspirants from communities including Gbagura, Oke-Ona, Oke-Ogun and Owu may soon join the race for the Assembly seat, suggesting that the political contest in Abeokuta North could become more competitive in the coming months.

CSOs suspend planned protest in Lagos, demand immediate investigation The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations has announced the suspension of it's planned protest in Lagos over the decision of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Moshood, to declare the Youth Forum leader of the Ojomu Royal Family, Hammed Tajudeen, as a wanted person. In a statement by its Chairman, Adeyemi Olorunsogo, the coalition expressed deep concern over what it described as persistent bias and selective actions by the Commissioner of Police against certain members and youths of the Ojomu Royal Family. The coalition had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum, scheduled to expire on March 9, 2026, during which it demanded an investigation into the matter. The group had also planned to stage a peaceful protest should its demands remain unmet. However, the coalition announced that it has decided to suspend the planned protest for an additional seven days following the recent change in leadership within the Nigeria Police Force. According to the group, the decision was taken to allow the new leadership adequate time to review the issues raised and ensure justice is served. Despite this gesture, the coalition expressed regret over what it described as continued actions by the Lagos CP allegedly aimed at satisfying certain sponsors. The group specifically condemned the arraignment of some suspects at the Ogba Magistrate Court on March 6, 2026, which it claims is part of a deliberate attempt to further discredit Hammed Tajudeen. Furthermore, the coalition raised serious concerns over what it described as the failure of law enforcement authorities to arrest individuals allegedly captured on camera destroying properties belonging to Hammed Tajudeen and others within the Ajiran community. The group therefore questioned why those individuals have yet to be arrested and called on the authorities to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial investigation into the matter. The coalition warned that if decisive action is not taken within the extended timeframe, it may be left with no option but to mobilize peaceful protests and other lawful civic actions to demand justice.

The Power of Influence: Why Dorcas Adeyinka Inspires Millions and Outshines Critics By Editor In a world where public opinion is often amplified through social media, very few individuals manage to command attention while maintaining credibility and impact. Dorcas Adeyinka has achieved precisely that. Loved and admired by the majority of her followers for her philanthropic work, digital engagement, and consistent outreach, she represents a rare example of influence that translates into action. Yet, as is inevitable for anyone in the public eye, a small segment remains critical or hostile, a reminder that public impact comes with both adoration and scrutiny. Recent engagement patterns suggest that roughly 80% of those who follow or interact with Dorcas Adeyinka do so out of admiration. They are drawn to her work, inspired by her resilience, and motivated by the tangible difference she makes in communities. This overwhelming support is not accidental; it is the product of consistent, purposeful engagement over time. Dorcas Adeyinka’s approach demonstrates that influence is more than mere visibility, it is about leveraging attention to create real-world outcomes. The remaining 20%, however, tend to focus on criticism. Critics may question motives, exaggerate flaws, or respond to her work with cynicism. This is neither unusual nor unique to Dorcas Adeyinka. Public figures often face detractors who, intentionally or otherwise, seek to undermine influence. But the significance lies in perspective: while critics can create noise, their impact is negligible when measured against the broader base of genuine admiration and support. What is instructive in Dorcas Adeyinka’s case is how she navigates this dynamic. She does not allow negativity to dictate her actions or compromise her initiatives. This resilience is a hallmark of effective influence. It demonstrates a critical truth: the value of public work is not determined by unanimous approval but by its consistency, intent, and measurable outcomes. Moreover, the presence of detractors underscores a wider societal phenomenon. In Nigeria, as elsewhere, those who step into public service, especially without formal political or governmental backing, often encounter skepticism. Social media, while an essential tool for amplifying impact, can also magnify criticism. Yet, Dorcas Adeyinka’s ability to sustain her outreach programs, feed vulnerable communities, and engage her audience thoughtfully reveals the distinction between superficial popularity and meaningful influence. There is also an important psychological lesson embedded in this dynamic. Criticism is often fueled by envy, misinformation, or resistance to social change. Understanding this allows public figures to interpret negativity not as failure but as a natural consequence of visibility. Dorcas Adeyinka exemplifies this approach by remaining focused on her mission rather than on public approval. The broader implication of her experience is clear: influence and impact are inseparable from resilience. In a society where cynicism can easily overshadow service, it is the sustained commitment to doing good that earns lasting respect. While 20% of critics may attempt to cast doubt or diminish achievements, the overwhelming admiration from the 80% who recognize her contribution ensures that her work endures. Ultimately, Dorcas Adeyinka’s journey illustrates a powerful lesson for all who operate in the public sphere: the measure of influence is not in avoiding criticism but in persisting despite it. Her ability to balance visibility with tangible outcomes, and admiration with scrutiny, makes her a model for modern philanthropy and civic engagement. Influence without action is fleeting; criticism without context is noise. Dorcas Adeyinka shows that when impact is sustained, when purpose is clear, and when resilience is prioritized, both admiration and criticism become part of a larger narrative, one in which meaningful social contribution cannot be ignored. In a digital age where every action is magnified, Dorcas Adeyinka’s story reminds us that true influence is measured less by applause and more by endurance, integrity, and the courage to continue serving regardless of opposition.

Fuel Price Hike Not Tinubu’s Making, Says Policy Analyst An Ekiti-born public administrator and policy analyst, Dr. Olusola John Ojo, has said that the recent increase in fuel prices in Nigeria should not be blamed on Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the development is largely driven by global geopolitical tensions affecting the oil market. Dr. Ojo, who is an oil and gas expert with extensive experience across the upstream and downstream sectors of the petroleum industry, explained that the ongoing tensions involving Israel, Iran, and the United States have significantly disrupted global crude oil supply expectations, leading to rising international oil prices and, consequently, higher fuel prices across many parts of the world. According to him, Nigeria, like many other countries that depend on global crude oil pricing, cannot isolate itself from the ripple effects of such international crises. Recent reports show that crude oil prices have surged following escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes. Analysts warn that disruptions in that region could push global oil prices even higher, with direct consequences for fuel prices across many countries. Dr. Ojo noted that in a deregulated petroleum market, the cost of petrol is largely influenced by the international price of crude oil and the cost of refining and distribution. “The present fuel price adjustment is not a local political decision but a reflection of global realities. When crude oil prices rise due to conflicts or supply disruptions, the cost of refined petroleum products inevitably increases,” he said. He added that the ongoing crisis in the Middle East has already caused crude oil prices to climb above previous levels, forcing refineries and marketers to review their prices to reflect the rising cost of crude and logistics. Industry data shows that several fuel stations in Nigeria have recently adjusted pump prices upward, with petrol selling between ₦900 and nearly ₦1,000 per litre in some locations after refiners increased depot prices in response to global crude price movements. Dr. Ojo emphasized that the situation is not unique to Nigeria, stressing that many economies around the world are currently facing similar energy price pressures as geopolitical tensions continue to affect global oil supply. “The whole world is feeling the impact. Energy markets are interconnected, and any major disruption in the Middle East will inevitably affect countries across Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas,” he said. While acknowledging the hardship faced by Nigerians due to rising fuel costs, the policy analyst urged citizens to understand the global factors behind the development and avoid placing the blame solely on the Nigerian government. He further called on policymakers to focus on strengthening Nigeria’s domestic refining capacity and energy diversification, which he said would help reduce the country’s vulnerability to external shocks in the future. Dr. Ojo concluded that while the current situation may be difficult, improving local production capacity and energy infrastructure would be critical in insulating the Nigerian economy from global oil market volatility.

Alleged Yahoo Yahoo Kingpin, Akinteye Babatunde “BABTEE,” Declares Intentions to Contest for NANS President Amid Corruption Allegations Controversy has erupted in Nigeria’s student politics as Akinteye Babatunde, popularly known as “BABTEE,” allegedly a notorious Yahoo Yahoo kingpin, announced his intentions to contest for the presidency of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Africa’s largest student movement. BABTEE’s declaration as announced on his official Facebook page on March 5th, 2026 has sparked outrage and renewed scrutiny, particularly over allegations of corruption and mismanagement tied to his name. In his declaration of intent, the NACV alleged that Akinteye Babatunde touted one of his major achievements while serving as Senate President of NANS as his frequent release from custody of alleged cyber criminals disguised as students arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, an obstruction of justice for which he is widely regarded within the cyber criminals and the main reason for promoting his candidature as he is always available using his government links while hiding under NANS platform to perpetrate fraud, defend fraudsters and secure their releases from anti graft agencies. The candidate was recently accused of diverting CNG buses donated to NANS by the federal government, an allegation he has yet to publicly address or deny. In a letter made public on March 2, 2026, the NANS Anti-Corruption Vanguard (NACV) appealed directly to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, warning against federal government support of an alleged cybercriminal to lead the student body. The group published the letter in The Nation newspaper, citing concerns that BABTEE’s leadership could compromise both the integrity and the mission of NANS. The letter alleged that BABTEE, a self acclaimed godson of Barr. Seyi Tinubu was “culpable in the mismanagement of NANS funds” and directly implicated in the “diversion and sale of 56 CNG buses donated by the federal government to ease transportation burdens on campuses across Nigeria.” The NACV urged the federal government to detach itself from sponsoring someone they described as a “renowned Yahoo Yahoo kingpin” to lead the organization as this portends a grave danger to the image of Nigeria as a nation before the international community with serious negative diplomatic appearance. “The largest student movement in Africa should not be led by an individual whose hands are steeped in cybercrime and financial mismanagement", the NACV wrote. “We call on the government to ensure that the upcoming NANS elections reflect transparency, accountability, and integrity, rather than condoning the rise of a cybercriminal to the helm of student leadership.” The controversy has raised wider questions about accountability in student politics and the influence of powerful individuals in Nigerian student unions. Analysts suggest that allegations such as diversion of government-donated buses could have serious implications for both education and public trust in youth leadership. With 56 CNG buses reportedly missing or allegedly sold, the federal government’s student transport initiative, designed to reduce transportation burdens on campuses nationwide, has come under intense scrutiny. Critics argue that any further involvement by an individual facing such allegations could jeopardize the program’s objectives. The NACV’s open letter to President Tinubu has since gone viral among students and social media users, many of whom have expressed alarm at the prospect of alleged cybercriminals holding influential positions in student governance. “The students of Nigeria deserve leaders of integrity,” one social media commentator wrote. “Allowing someone with a history of financial mismanagement and cybercrime allegations to lead NANS is a betrayal of the trust of millions of students across the country.” The NANS elections, slated for later this year, now face heightened scrutiny, with advocacy groups calling on both the government and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of student affairs to ensure a free, fair, and transparent process. Observers warn that the fallout from the BABTEE controversy could extend beyond student politics, raising broader concerns about governance, accountability, and youth leadership in Nigeria.

Stakeholders Petitions Tinubu Over Alleged Diversion Of 50 FG-Donated CNG Buses, Accuses Minister, Aide, Ex-NANS Leaders Of Criminal Infiltration A group of concerned stakeholders within Nigeria’s student movement has written an open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alleging large-scale corruption, diversion of public assets and criminal infiltration within the leadership structures of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). In a letter obtained by SaharaReporters on Wednesday the group accused the Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande Wisdom, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, Asefon Sunday Dayo, and two former NANS leaders — Akinteye Babatunde (popularly known as Babtee) and Lucky Emonefe — of misappropriating federal government interventions meant for Nigerian students. The petitioners alleged that about 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses donated by the Federal Government to ease transportation challenges on tertiary campuses were diverted, shared among individuals, and in some cases sold. According to the letter, the buses were allegedly retained for private commercial arrangements or disposed of outright, rather than deployed to campuses as intended. The group claimed that only a handful of the vehicles are traceable within student communities, while others are unaccounted for. They called on the President to order an immediate audit to determine the total number and current location of the buses and to retrieve any found to have been wrongfully diverted. Beyond the buses, the petition accused the same officials and former student leaders of diverting funds raised for NANS conventions and allegedly selling government-facilitated employment opportunities meant for former student leaders. The group alleged that monies sourced in the name of organising student conventions were mismanaged, leaving delegates stranded without accommodation and logistics support despite substantial funds reportedly being mobilised. It further claimed that employment slots facilitated through government channels were either sold for millions of naira or allocated to associates with no background in student activism, thereby creating resentment within the student body. The letter also raised concerns over the alleged sale of food palliatives meant for indigent students during festive and fasting periods. In a more explosive claim, the petitioners accused one of the aspirants for the 2026 NANS presidency, Akinteye Babatunde, of alleged involvement in an international cyber fraud network, commonly referred to in Nigeria as “yahoo yahoo.” They alleged that individuals linked to the aspirant use NANS-branded number plates on luxury vehicles to evade scrutiny from security agencies. The group warned that invoking the name of the President and his son, Seyi Tinubu, in internal NANS politics could damage the Presidency’s image if not addressed. They alleged that some actors within the student movement frequently claim endorsement from the Presidency to influence convention outcomes and suppress opposition candidates. The petitioners urged President Tinubu to direct anti-corruption and security agencies to: Conduct a full audit of all CNG buses donated to NANS; Investigate the allocation of government employment opportunities linked to student leaders; Probe allegations of diversion of convention funds; Examine claims of cybercrime involvement among aspirants to NANS leadership; and Ensure that individuals with alleged criminal antecedents are not endorsed or shielded by state actors. They argued that the student movement, once known for its radical activism during the military era, is now facing what they described as “a crisis of credibility,” warning that failure to act could deepen distrust among Nigeria’s over 40 million students. The letter framed the controversy as a broader struggle over the future of student unionism in Nigeria, urging the President to distance his administration from any individual accused of exploiting government goodwill for personal gain.

CSOs Decry Alleged Bias by Lagos Commissioner of Police Against Ojomu Royal Family Youth Forum, Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in collaboration with the Centre for Citizens Rights has called for investigation into the alleged accusation against the Chairman of the Youth Forum of Ojomu Royal Family in Lagos State, Hammed Tajudeen. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the Chairman of the Coalition, Comr Adeyemi olorunshogo , said the allegations by the Lagos State Police Command against Tajudeen are baseless. The Coalition threatened to embark on protest if the police command fails to retract its allegations with the next seven days. It said: "Consequently, we make the following demands and expect it will be met in 7 days from today and otherwise, we shall proceed on a protest not just against the commissioner of police and the Lagos State Police Command but mention names of other individuals fingered in this whole plot. "The constitution of a special, neutral, and professionally competent investigative team to review the allegations; the prosecution of any persons found to have made false, malicious, or fabricated claims; and a public retraction of the unlawful declaration portraying Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen as a murderer. "A cease in the further sales of land indigenously belonging to Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area by few individuals. "The retraction of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police from being the one to investigate the matter as he is obviously compromised in this matter. "We belief this will not be seen as a threat. As a coalition, we will not watch the rights of a people be taken away or some individuals using their influence to curry favour or miscarry justice in the name of investigations and prosecution of no offender. "We trust that the appropriate authorities will urgently intervene to restore confidence in due process, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that policing in Lagos State remains professional, impartial, and accountable." The Coalition alleged that Tajudeen was not giving fair hearing before police declaration. "It is important to state clearly that at no time was Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen invited by the police for questioning. "At no time did he refuse or fail to honour any police invitation. At no time was any warrant of arrest issued against him by a court of competent jurisdiction. At no time was any judicial authorisation or order obtained to declare him wanted. "Despite these concerns, on 20 February 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, convened a press briefing during which the full image of Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen was displayed and he was publicly accused of sponsoring multiple murders. "This unilateral and sensational declaration exposed him to public odium, ridicule, and severe reputational harm, all without the benefit of due process or the basic courtesy of an invitation for questioning. "This is nothing but intimidation, attempt to cow and silence strength of a family and a way to call a dog a bad name in other to hang it. "It is against this backdrop that we consider it imperative to address the public and set the records straight, ensuring that the rights and dignity of all parties are preserved while lawful processes are allowed to run their full and proper course. "We address you today in defence of the Youth Forum of Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, a people been attempted to be rubbished, cheated and ill-treated for a blessing given to them by God. "For the records, the Ojomu Royal Family is historically vested with vast ancestral lands spanning approximately twenty-two villages, towns, and settlements within Lagos State. "For over thirty-five years, large portions of these ancestral lands have allegedly been dominated, controlled, and sold by certain traditional authorities within the community without transparent accounting to the family or any visible, traceable development accruing to the community from the proceeds of such transactions. "In recent years, the youths of the family have demanded accountability, transparency, and clarity regarding the management and sale of these ancestral lands, particularly in the interest of future generations. "These legitimate demands, however, were allegedly met with resistance, intimidation, and a sustained pattern of petitions written to the police against members of the youth forum led by Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen. "Available records show that within the last five years alone, more than twenty-five petitions were written against members of the youth forum. In each of these cases, investigations were conducted by the police, and the allegations were reportedly found to be baseless, frivolous, and without merit. "Despite this history, members of the forum were repeatedly and falsely linked to criminal incidents within and around Ajiran Town, including serious violent crimes, even where there was no factual basis connecting them to such incidents. "Specifically, reference must be made to the murder of a community member in April 2023 at Moba, a neighbouring settlement. At the material time, Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen, the Chairman of the Youth Forum, a prominent community figure and longstanding pillar of support to the ancestral family renowned for his philanthropy, including sponsoring the education of indigent children and making weekly voluntary donations to widows and economically vulnerable members of the royal family and the wider community was outside the country. "Nonetheless, he and other members of the youth forum in the community were accused. Following investigations by the Lagos State Police Command, they were fully exonerated."

Ojomu Royal Family: Forum petitions against Lagos CP over accusations against Tajudeen The Youth Forum of Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Town in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State, has written a petition against the Commissioner of Police in the state, Moshood Jimoh, over the accusations levelled against Hammed Tajudeen. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the counsel to the Forum, (Adedotun Ajulo, Esq.), said the Lagos State Police Command cannot embark on a media trial in an alleged murder case. The Forum said the police accused Tajudeen of sponsoring multiple murders without investigation. It stated that at no time was Tajudeen invited by the police for questioning. It said: "At no time did he refuse or fail to honour any police invitation. At no time was any warrant of arrest issued against him by a court of competent jurisdiction. "At no time was any judicial authorisation or order obtained to declare him wanted. Despite these concerns, on 20 February 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, convened a press briefing during which the full image of Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen was displayed and he was publicly accused of sponsoring multiple murders. "This unilateral and sensational declaration exposed him to public odium, ridicule, and severe reputational harm, all without the benefit of due process or the basic courtesy of an invitation for questioning. "In the aftermath of the press briefing, hoodlums allegedly sponsored by the opposing parties seized upon the heightened tension to vandalize and destroy properties and assets belonging to Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen, as well as those of other identifiable members of the youth wing who are perceived to be aligned with him. "These coordinated attacks further underscore the dangerous consequences of deploying the machinery of law enforcement in a manner that inflames communal hostilities rather than preserving public order. "Subsequently, there has been an overwhelming and intimidating presence of both military personnel and policemen within the community, a development that has served only to further harass, threaten, and denigrate our Clients. "Meanwhile, the opposing parties continue to enjoy open protection, enabling them to persist in the unchecked dissipation of the community’s common patrimony without resistance or accountability. "The law is settled. The Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, particularly Section 41, regulates the circumstances under which a citizen may be declared wanted. "These conditions were not met in this case. Furthermore, the courts have held that the publication of a wanted notice without lawful authority is unconstitutional, illegal, and liable to be set aside. "We emphasise that our clients are not opposed to lawful investigation. They have consistently cooperated with law enforcement agencies in the past and were previously exonerated after investigations. "What they strongly oppose is indictment without investigation, trial by media, intimidation, and the use of police machinery to settle private disputes or advance personal interests. "The issues concerning the Ojomu Royal Family long predate the tenure of the current Commissioner of Police, and it is noteworthy that his predecessors never conducted themselves in a manner suggestive of bias, compromise, or improper influence arising from any promise of advantage or lucre, whether direct or implied. "Consequently, a formal petition has been submitted against the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Lagos State Police Command. "Among the reliefs sought are the constitution of a special, neutral, and professionally competent investigative team to review the allegations; the prosecution of any persons found to have made false, malicious, or fabricated claims; and a public retraction of the unlawful declaration portraying Alhaji Hammed Tajudeen as a murderer. "Our Client reiterates his readiness to make himself available for investigation, provided such inquiry is conducted without bias, compromise, or the procedural irregularities presently characterizing the handling of this matter and definitely not by Lagos State Commissioner of Police. "We trust that the appropriate authorities will urgently intervene to restore confidence in due process, uphold the rule of law, and ensure that policing in Lagos State remains professional, impartial, and accountable. "More troubling is the fact that such a pronouncement was made in the absence of any invitation, interrogation, or opportunity afforded to Tajudeen to respond to the allegations an omission that gravely offends the tenets of fairness, due process, and responsible policing. "Furthermore, the conduct of the Commissioner raises serious questions as to whether the machinery of the state is being deployed to settle personal or communal scores rather than to uphold law and order. "In a democratic society governed by the rule of law, no public officer is permitted to wield statutory powers in a manner that constitutes a media trial or exposes citizens to unwarranted public opprobrium. "It is against this backdrop that we consider it imperative to address the public and set the records straight, ensuring that the rights and dignity of all parties are preserved while lawful processes are allowed to run their full and proper course."

OGWAMA MD, Abayomi Hunye Ousted Over Extortion Allegations as Abiodun Names Farouk Akintunde Replacement The Executive Governor of Dapo Abiodun has removed the Managing Director of the Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), Abayomi Hunye, following months of controversy and protests by waste management vendors across the state. Hunye’s removal comes amid sustained allegations of extortion and arbitrary levy increases levelled against him by members of the Association of Waste Management Vendors and Recyclers of Nigeria (AWMVRN). The Governor has appointed Alhaji Farouk Akintunde, his Special Adviser on Environment, as the new Managing Director of the agency. Protests and Allegations The crisis within OGWAMA reached a boiling point in January 2026 when aggrieved vendors staged protests, demanding Hunye’s sack. The protesters accused the former MD of imposing “unbearable” financial demands on operators, including an increase in annual registration fees from N100,000 to N200,000. Chanting “Hunye Must Go,” the vendors alleged that the levy hike and other charges were arbitrary and had placed severe hardship on waste operators across the state. They further claimed that certain local operators were being sidelined in favour of preferred outsiders. According to the protesters, the situation had disrupted business operations and threatened livelihoods within the waste management sector. Hunye’s Defence Hunye consistently denied all allegations of extortion, insisting that no illegal payments were collected from vendors. He maintained that all fees were paid directly into official government accounts. “Their extortion claim is not true because I have collected no money from any of them illegally,” Hunye said in response to the accusations. “They have always paid into OGWAMA’s account, and paying into government coffers cannot be described as extortion.” On the issue of the fee increase, Hunye clarified that the adjustment from N100,000 to N200,000 was agreed upon with the vendors’ association for the 2024 and 2025 operational years. He also linked the protests to his crackdown on what he described as a “cartel” within the system. According to him, some operators registered multiple companies under different names to dominate contracts and stifle competition. Hunye said he enforced a one-company-per-person policy to promote fairness and accountability, a move he claimed triggered resistance from affected parties. The former MD further threatened legal action against the protesters for defamation, alleging that the accusations were aimed at undermining reforms within OGWAMA. He also pointed to counter-allegations that some of the protesting members had previously faced suspension within their association over claims of fraud, misrepresentation and forgery. Government’s Decision While the Ogun State Government has not released a detailed statement outlining the specific reasons for Hunye’s removal, sources within the administration suggest that the decision was taken in the interest of restoring calm and confidence in the state’s waste management system. The appointment of Farouk Akintunde, who previously served as Special Adviser on Environment, is seen as a strategic move to stabilise the agency and address stakeholders’ concerns. Industry observers note that waste management remains a critical component of environmental sustainability and public health in Ogun State. The recent leadership change is expected to usher in renewed dialogue between the government and waste operators. Stakeholders React Vendors who had called for Hunye’s removal described the development as a “welcome step,” expressing hope that the new leadership would review existing policies and ease financial pressures on operators. However, some analysts caution that beyond leadership changes, structural reforms and transparent engagement with stakeholders will be crucial in preventing future crises within OGWAMA. As Farouk Akintunde assumes office, attention now turns to how the new MD will navigate the delicate balance between enforcing accountability and ensuring that policies do not stifle operators within the sector. The unfolding developments mark a significant chapter in Ogun State’s environmental governance, with many watching closely to see whether the change in leadership will bring lasting stability to the state’s waste management system. Lagos APC Chair aspirants urge Tinubu to intervene in refund of nomination fees The local government chairmanship aspirants in the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) have petitioned President Bola Tinubu over none refund of their nomination and expression of interest fees. The group in the petition alleged that refunds have reportedly been made to councillorship aspirants and a few Local Government Chairmanship aspirants, over 300 chairmanship aspirants across the 57 Local Governments and LCDAs are yet to receive their refunds. It denied the claims circulating that all aspirants have been refunded. It said that this situation is generating widespread dissatisfaction and is already affecting party stability at the grassroots level. It said: "The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State is today facing one of the gravest self-inflicted crises in its political history. "At the center of this controversy is the outright refusal of the Lagos State chapter of the party to comply with constituted authority—specifically, the directive of President Bola Tinubu, and the moral authority of the Executive Governor of Lagos State—regarding the refund of monies paid by aspirants who contested in the deeply controversial 2025 Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship elections. "This election has rightly gone down as the most disputed and contentious local government exercise in the history of Lagos State. "Hundreds of loyal party members, many of whom have invested decades of service, resources, and grassroots mobilization into the APC, were subjected to a process widely perceived as opaque, exclusionary, and predetermined. "Yet, in the spirit of party loyalty and national interest, these aspirants accepted the intervention of the President, who reportedly directed that all aspirants be refunded as a means of restoring confidence, justice, and internal cohesion. "Shockingly, the Lagos State APC leadership, under the chairmanship of Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, alongside members of the State Executive Committee, has chosen a path of open defiance. "This refusal to act on a presidential directive raises serious questions about discipline, loyalty, and respect for hierarchy within the party that prides itself on progressive values and internal democracy. "Let it be stated clearly: no state chapter of a political party is greater than the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, especially when that President is a founding pillar of the same party and a former Governor of Lagos State himself. "To disregard such a directive is not merely administrative arrogance; it is an act of political insubordination with far-reaching consequences. "The continued refusal to refund these aspirants has already fueled anger, resentment, and quiet rebellion across wards and local governments. Grassroots mobilizers—the very engine of electoral success—feel betrayed and humiliated. "If this injustice is allowed to stand, it will inevitably translate into voter apathy, internal sabotage, protest votes, and loss of credibility ahead of future general elections. "History has shown repeatedly that political parties do not collapse from external opposition but from internal injustice. What is happening in Lagos today is a textbook example of how unchecked impunity at the state level can undermine national leadership and weaken party unity. We therefore call on all well-meaning Nigerians, party elders, progressive leaders, and stakeholders to urgently prevail on Ojelabi, and the entire State Exco to immediately comply with the President’s directive and refund all affected aspirants without further delay. "This is not merely about money. It is about justice, credibility, party discipline, and the moral authority of leadership. Failure to resolve this matter promptly will cast a long and damaging shadow over upcoming elections in Lagos State and beyond, with consequences that may be irreversible." |
