Due Process Is Not Optional: Why the National Assembly’s Authentication of the Tax Reform Acts Upholds Law, Order, and Democratic Integrity

By Philip Agbese

In every constitutional democracy, the legitimacy of law does not rest on sentiment or speed, but on process. Laws derive their authority not merely from political will or popular approval, but from scrupulous adherence to the procedures laid down by the Constitution and statute. It is against this background that recent public commentary surrounding the authentication, assent, and gazetting of key tax reform legislation must be understood, and properly situated within Nigeria’s constitutional order.

The National Assembly, as the custodian of legislative authority, has responded not with defensiveness or evasion, but with institutional sobriety. The leadership of both Chambers has activated the very safeguards that give law its moral and legal force: verification, certification, and transparency. This is not an act of weakness. It is the essence of legislative strength.

The press release issued by the Management of the National Assembly makes this point unambiguously. Faced with questions relating to the harmonisation, assent, and gazetting of the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025, the legislature chose the path of constitutional due diligence rather than public polemics . That choice deserves commendation.

At the heart of the matter is the Acts Authentication Act, Cap. A4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. This statute exists for a simple but profound reason: to ensure that what is passed by the legislature, assented to by the President, and published for public reliance is the same text. Authentication is not an optional bureaucratic ritual; it is the bridge between legislative intent and legal certainty. Without it, the integrity of the statute book itself would be compromised.

The steps undertaken by the National Assembly, as illustrated in the published authentication process, reflect long-established parliamentary practice. From the preparation of the certified true copy of the Bill after enactment, through compilation and certification of the schedule of Bills for assent, to gazetting and official publication, each stage serves a distinct constitutional purpose. Collectively, they form a chain of custody for the law. Break that chain, and legal chaos follows.

Crucially, the leadership has been careful to clarify that the ongoing internal review does not concede any defect in legislative authority, nor does it encroach upon the functions of the Executive or Judiciary. It is an internal, administrative exercise aimed at clarity, accuracy, and the sanctity of the legislative record . In constitutional terms, this is precisely how a mature legislature should behave: correcting its own processes where necessary, without grandstanding or blame-shifting.

There is also a moral dimension that should not be overlooked. Tax legislation affects every citizen, every business, and the fiscal stability of the state. Such laws must command confidence. When the legislature demonstrates that it is willing to pause, verify, and certify before insisting on finality, it reinforces public trust. Due process is not the enemy of reform; it is the condition that makes reform legitimate and durable.

The legal effect of this approach is equally important. Official gazetting and the issuance of certified true copies provide courts, regulators, investors, and citizens with an authoritative text upon which rights and obligations can safely be based. In an era where disputes often turn on the precise wording of statutes, the insistence on authentication is not pedantry. It is prudence.

Those urging haste over process should reflect on comparative experience. In established democracies, legislatures routinely delay commencement, correct clerical inconsistencies, and re-certify statutes to protect the integrity of the legal order. Nigeria is not being exceptional; it is being orthodox.

Ultimately, the National Assembly’s actions reaffirm a deeper constitutional principle: that law is greater than politics, and procedure is the guardian of substance. By acting within the Constitution, the Acts Authentication Act, Standing Orders, and established parliamentary conventions, the leadership has shown fidelity not just to power, but to responsibility.

In defending due diligence, the National Assembly is defending the rule of law itself. That is not merely legal correctness. It is a democratic virtue.

PoliticsTerrorism Financing: Group To Mobilise One Million Match Against Malami's Releas by AmeboFeeds(op): 9:09am On Dec 29, 2025
Terrorism financing: Group to mobilise One Million Match Against Malami's Release from detention, wants former AGF sentenced to death by hanging

The Coalition Against Terrorism and Corruption (CATC) has announced plans to mobilize a one-million-man march to protest any attempt to release former Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami from EFCC detention, demanding instead that he be sentenced to death by hanging for allegedly enabling terrorism financing through massive money laundering.

In a statement signed by Dr. Hassan Adebayo, the group’s spokesperson, Malami was branded a “traitor in high office” whose actions have directly fueled terrorism, cost countless innocent lives, and betrayed the nation.

“Abubakar Malami, as AGF, turned his position into a criminal enterprise, laundering billions to arm terrorists and destabilize Nigeria while chasing a presidential ambition he later abandoned,” Adebayo stated.

“His alleged laundering of over N1 billion through Metropolitan Auto Tech Limited between 2022 and 2025 is not mere corruption—it is blood money that has killed Nigerians and left families in perpetual grief.”

Adebayo pointed to the EFCC’s 16-count charge, accusing Malami, his son, and associate Bashir Asabe of concealing and disguising illicit funds used to acquire luxury properties worth billions across Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi.

"He allegedly N500 million to buy a duplex in Maitama, retained N600 million as cash collateral for loans, and conspired to acquire assets in Jabi, Asokoro, and Gwarimpa—all funded by proceeds of crime that supported terrorism,” he said.

“While families buried loved ones killed by insurgents, Malami was busy buying mansions and plotting his political future on the blood of the innocent.”

The group condemned Malami’s role in allegedly acquiring over 41 properties traced to ₦212 billion in illicit funds.

“He disguised N1.36 billion through Meethaq Hotels Ltd, concealed N700 million for Hamonia Hotels, and laundered money for Rayhaan Hotels—all while presiding over the Ministry of Justice meant to protect Nigerians,” Adebayo charged.

“He turned the AGF office into a safe haven for terrorists and their financiers, ensuring that while our soldiers fought with limited resources, criminals like him thrived.”

Adebayo highlighted the human toll. “Every naira he allegedly laundered is a life lost, a family destroyed, a community terrorized. His betrayal is unforgivable, and the pain he inflicted on Nigerian families is irreparable,” he said.

The group warned against any bail or release, calling for the harshest punishment.

“We demand not just conviction but death by hanging for Malami—the ultimate penalty for a man who armed terrorists with laundered billions while holding the nation’s highest legal office,” Adebayo declared.

Adebayo concluded, “Abubakar Malami is a principal architect of insecurity. His actions—from laundering billions in Abuja to acquiring illicit properties nationwide—prove he prioritized personal greed and political ambition over the lives of Nigerians.

"He must face the gallows to send a message that betrayal of this magnitude will never be tolerated.”

Middle Belt Group Lauds President Tinubu's Intervention In Benue APC Crisis

***Says Speaker Abbas Right Man to Deliver on Lasting Peace Pact

The Middle Belt Democratic Agenda has enthusiastically commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his decisive and visionary leadership in addressing the lingering crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State.

The group described the President's constitution of a high-powered reconciliation committee as a clear demonstration of his commitment to party unity, internal democracy, and the overall stability of Nigeria's political landscape.

In a statement released today and signed by Comrade Samuel Bako, the Middle Belt Democratic Agenda hailed President Tinubu's choice of Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, as chairman of the Benue APC reconciliation committee.

The Benue APC has been embroiled in factional disputes, primarily between supporters of Governor Hyacinth Alia and those aligned with Senator George Akume, leading to parallel structures, legal tussles, and public disruptions that have weakened the party's cohesion and grassroots mobilization.

Comrade Samuel Bako, in a series of pointed remarks, praised President Tinubu as a “strategic statesman” who consistently prioritizes reconciliation over division.

“President Tinubu’s intervention in Benue is yet another proof of his deep love for the APC and his determination to ensure that no state is left behind in the journey toward national progress," he said.

"His proactive approach to resolving intra-party conflicts shows rare political maturity and foresight."

He further described the President as “a unifier par excellence,” adding: “By appointing credible and respected figures to lead this committee, President Tinubu has once again shown that he values competence, integrity, and inclusivity.

"This move will not only heal wounds in Benue APC but will also strengthen the party nationally as we approach future elections.”

Turning to Speaker Abbas, Comrade Bako called him “the perfect bridge-builder for such a delicate assignment.”

"Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen has proven time and again that he is a man of fairness, wisdom, and impartiality. His track record in Bauchi, where he successfully brought warring factions together, speaks volumes," he stated.

" We have absolute confidence that under his leadership, Benue APC will emerge stronger and more united than ever.

Bako emphasized the Speaker’s unique qualities: “Speaker Abbas is a leader who listens to all sides. His appointment is a masterstroke by Mr. President, and we are convinced that he will deliver a lasting peace pact that will serve as a model for other states.”

The group also commended the composition of the committee, which includes Governor Mai Mala Buni, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, and other high-caliber members, describing it as “a dream team of reconciliators.”

Bako urged all APC stakeholders in Benue to extend full cooperation to the committee, stressing that “unity is our greatest strength.”

“President Tinubu and Speaker Abbas have given Benue APC a golden opportunity for renewal. We pray for the success of this noble effort and reaffirm our support for the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Bako concluded.

CareerHow Not To Defame A Saint: Gbenga Komolafe’s Unblemished Record In The Nigerian by AmeboFeeds(op): 9:52pm On Dec 23, 2025
How Not to Defame a Saint: Gbenga Komolafe’s Unblemished Record in the Nigerian Oil Sector

By Benedict Aguele

In the age of instant narratives and social media-driven outrage, few things are as dangerous as unverified allegations leveled against competent public servants. Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, former Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), has recently been subjected to a torrent of claims alleging corruption, asset manipulation, and revenue concealment. Yet, a careful examination of the facts reveals that these allegations are not only unfounded but also reflect a troubling pattern of targeting individuals who are effective reformers in Nigeria’s critical oil and gas sector.

Komolafe’s tenure at the NUPRC coincided with a transformative period in the Nigerian petroleum industry. The Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), signed into law in 2021, established a robust legal framework for regulating upstream operations, enhancing transparency, and modernizing revenue management. As CEO, Komolafe applied his extensive knowledge of petroleum law and regulatory best practices to ensure that the agency fulfilled its statutory mandate. His focus on compliance, due process, and legal integrity naturally ruffled the feathers of individuals accustomed to the old ways of doing business, and it is within this context that the recent allegations must be understood.

One of the most striking aspects of the claims against Komolafe is their audacious scope. Petitioners have accused him of controlling dozens of bank accounts, concealing billions in oil and gas revenues, and orchestrating the unlawful reduction of multiple oil mining leases. Verified records, however, demonstrate that Komolafe maintains only two bank accounts. There is no evidence to suggest that these accounts were used for illicit purposes. Such inaccuracies underscore a fundamental flaw in the allegations: they are based on conjecture and selective interpretation rather than documented proof.

It is also important to consider the behavior of the petitioner, who initially approached the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) to request an investigation. Once scrutiny began, he went underground, apparently seeking a settlement that never materialized. This pattern strongly suggests that the allegations were motivated more by personal gain or retaliation than by genuine concern for regulatory compliance. Komolafe, on his part, did not kowtow to these pressures, choosing instead to operate transparently and within the bounds of the law.

Throughout his tenure, Komolafe emphasized regulatory integrity, transparency, and accountability. Any suggestion that he could single-handedly manipulate Nigeria’s upstream assets without detection ignores the complex checks and balances embedded in the PIA framework. These include multi-agency oversight, audits by the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), monitoring by the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and scrutiny by international partners. Claims that billions were “concealed” or that strategic oil and gas assets were mismanaged do not withstand scrutiny when the systemic regulatory and institutional safeguards are considered.

*Facts Over Fiction: Debunking Misleading Claims*

Another central allegation pertains to Oil Prospecting Licence (OPL) 227 and its supposed conversion to OML 146, allegedly reducing the acreage drastically. Here again, the claims misrepresent both the law and the operational reality. Regulatory approval processes under the PIA require thorough documentation, technical verification, and alignment with existing lease agreements. Any lawful conversion or adjustment is subject to board approval, ministerial ratification, and public disclosure. Komolafe’s involvement in overseeing these processes was purely administrative and statutory, consistent with his legal obligations as the NUPRC chief executive. There is no evidence of personal enrichment or unlawful action.

Similar accusations were made regarding OMLs 33, 46, and 74, purportedly reduced without proper justification. However, independent assessments reveal that all regulatory decisions during Komolafe’s tenure were conducted under the established legal framework. Assertions that portions of these leases were misappropriated or that revenues were diverted are not supported by verifiable documents or audits. They reflect a narrative constructed for maximum sensational impact rather than a factual account.

Equally misleading are claims about the operation of Sterling Exploration and Energy Production Company (SEEPCO) and alleged underreporting of wells. While SEEPCO’s operations are indeed licensed, any discrepancies in reporting fall under the remit of multiple regulatory bodies, and there is no evidence that Komolafe personally facilitated any illicit operations. The insinuation that he orchestrated financial opacity or laundered proceeds through multiple bank accounts is categorically false and inconsistent with both public records and his documented professional conduct.

*Preserving Integrity and Justice*

Komolafe’s career exemplifies the highest standards of public service. His commitment to legal compliance, transparency, and institutional reform was evident in every decision taken at the NUPRC. Allegations rooted in hearsay, unverified documents, or personal vendettas not only threaten his reputation but also undermine broader governance reforms. When reformers are targeted without due process, it signals to the nation’s bureaucracy and private sector that compliance, professionalism, and integrity may be punished rather than rewarded.

It is also essential to consider the principle of proportionality in accountability. Public servants must be evaluated on the basis of evidence, not conjecture or political expediency. Komolafe’s resignation from office should be viewed within the normal course of administrative transition, not as an admission of guilt. He acted within his statutory powers, and there is no credible evidence linking him to corruption or fraudulent manipulation of assets.

Civil society organizations, media professionals, and regulatory stakeholders must recognize the dangers of perpetuating unverified claims. While oversight and accountability are non-negotiable in a democratic system, the deployment of inflammatory allegations without substantiation amounts to character assassination. Nigeria’s petroleum sector, already complex and strategically critical, cannot afford the destabilizing effects of misinformation and false narratives.

In this context, Komolafe’s example is instructive. He navigated an era of major reform, applying his expertise to safeguard national interests while maintaining professional integrity. His conduct demonstrates that effective regulatory leadership is possible without succumbing to personal enrichment, nepotism, or corruption.

The path forward for Nigeria’s extractive industry lies in institutional strengthening, transparency, and evidence-based oversight. Petitions and claims should be rigorously investigated, but the presumption of innocence must be maintained. Komolafe’s record should remind policymakers, journalists, and civic actors alike that constructive reformers are assets to the nation, not targets for defamatory campaigns.

In conclusion, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe’s tenure as NUPRC chief executive reflects dedication, legality, and reformist zeal. To defame a public servant without evidence is not only unfair to the individual but detrimental to national development.

Yuletide: Consumers Salute President Tinubu, Dangote Group for Affordable Fuel Prices Nationwide

***Say Economic Transformation Under Tinubu Taking Roots at All Levels

As Nigerians prepare for the festive season, the Forum of Consumers for National Growth (FCNG) has commended President Bola Tinubu and the Dangote Group for their roles in driving down petrol prices across the country, describing the developments as clear evidence that economic reforms are yielding tangible benefits at grassroots levels.

In a statement signed by Dr. Adekunle Olorunfemi, National Coordinator, and Rev. Moses Alkali, Public Relations Officer, the forum highlighted the recent reduction in petrol gantry prices by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery as a game-changer for consumers amid rising holiday travel demands.

"The bold economic transformation initiated by President Tinubu is taking deep roots," the statement read.

"By fostering an enabling environment for local refining and competition, his administration has empowered private sector giants like Dangote to deliver affordable fuel, easing the burden on millions of households and businesses during this Yuletide."

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery had announced a significant cut in its gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lowering it by N129 per litre to ₦699 effective December 12, 2025.

This marks the refinery's 20th price adjustment in 2025, reflecting sustained efforts to keep domestic fuel competitive despite global volatility and smuggling pressures.

To support wider market access, the refinery introduced a 10-day credit facility for marketers and reduced the minimum order quantity for certain buyers, enabling smaller distributors to participate.

The forum praised the refinery's production milestones, including a daily output of 70 million litres of refined products—comprising 45 million litres of petrol and 25 million litres of diesel—surpassing Nigeria's estimated domestic consumption.

This surge in local supply has reduced reliance on costly imports and bolstered energy security.

According to the group, the refinery's diversification of crude sources, including the recent arrival of its second shipment from Ghana's Sankofa grade, further underscores its strategic shift toward regional and domestic sourcing, reducing dependence on European imports.

The statement added: "President Tinubu's reforms, including the removal of subsidies and promotion of local refining, have created the conditions for such innovations.

"Consumers are now experiencing direct dividends through lower transport costs, stabilized prices, and increased availability during the festive period.

"This is not just about fuel—it's about hope and progress. The Dangote Group's commitment to reasonable pricing, combined with government support, is transforming lives and proving that Nigeria's economic vision under President Tinubu is delivering inclusive growth."

The forum urged Nigerians to embrace these positive changes while calling for continued collaboration between the government and private sector to sustain affordability and drive further industrialization.

Yari: Yoruba Youths Oppose Conferment of Prestigious Titles on Figures Linked to Banditry and Corruption

The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC), a foremost organization advocating for the interests, unity, and cultural integrity of Yoruba youth, has vehemently opposed the planned conferment of the Obaloyin of Yorubaland title on former Zamfara State Governor and current Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar by the Alaafin of Oyo.

In a statement released today, YYC President Dr. Adebayo Ogunleye described the decision as a grave misstep that risks undermining the cherished Yoruba values of integrity, moral uprightness, and communal responsibility.

He said: “Yorubaland has always honoured individuals who embody the spirit of omoluabi – those whose character and actions reflect excellence, accountability, and the protection of life and property.

"Bestowing a title as exalted as Obaloyin, which signifies guardianship and military command, on someone with a deeply controversial record sends a dangerous signal to our youth and communities.”

The Council highlighted the unprecedented escalation of banditry and insecurity in Zamfara State during Senator Yari’s governorship from 2011 to 2019.

The group said this period saw thousands of lives lost, widespread displacement, and communities living in constant fear.

It added that persistent allegations have linked Yari to some of the very elements responsible for the violence, including claims of meetings with notorious bandits and allegations of political protection or complicity.

“Banditry did not emerge in a vacuum,” Dr. Ogunleye stated. “It thrived in an atmosphere where questions of oversight and accountability at the highest levels were raised repeatedly.

" We cannot ignore this history when considering someone for a title that represents the guardian of the realm.”

The YYC also drew attention to the numerous corruption allegations that have trailed Senator Yari, including probes by anti-graft agencies, property forfeitures, and claims of misappropriation of billions of naira during his tenure.

According to the group, such accusations, involving alleged fraud, illegal resource exploitation, and mismanagement of public funds, stand in direct opposition to the Yoruba philosophy of transparency, equity, and selfless leadership.

“How can we, as a people who value hard work and moral rectitude, celebrate wealth and power whose origins are shrouded in controversy?” Ogunleye asked.

“This does not reflect the Yoruba ideal of leadership that uplifts the community rather than exploits it.”

The Council further warned that the Southwest is already facing serious security challenges from herdsmen-related violence, including killings, kidnappings, and destruction of farmlands.

“Honouring individuals whose leadership is associated with the rise of similar banditry in other parts of the country risks sending a message that such conduct is tolerable,” the statement read.

“We must not normalize or glorify behavior that endangers lives and livelihoods. Our youth deserve role models who protect and unite, not those whose legacies are stained by insecurity and ethical questions.”

The Yoruba Youth Council called on the Alaafin of Oyo and all Yoruba traditional leaders to reconsider the conferment of these titles.

“True cultural bridge-building must be rooted in unimpeachable character and a proven commitment to peace, justice, and the welfare of the people,” Dr. Ogunleye concluded.

The Council urged Yoruba youth across the country to remain vigilant and united in defending the sanctity of their cultural heritage.

“We will continue to advocate peacefully for values that reflect our proud identity. Titles should inspire, not divide or endanger.”

Ben Okezie Kalu: The Lawmaker in Our Hearts- By Kassim Omomia

We have watched Ben Okezie Kalu the deputy speaker of the House with all admiration. He exudes humour, humility and hardwork.
Kalu did not catch our glimpse from the wrong side but from a prism of competence, dedication and above all patriotism in his legislative duties. Even though we may not have a full grasp of Okezie’s elementary political life up till his ascension to the exalted office of Deputy speaker, House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria, but it is on record that he served extremely well and meritoriously when as a first time member of the House of Representatives he was chairman Media and Publicity committee, doubling as spokesperson and image maker.

Okezie stirred the House public outlook to the approval of Nigerians and the outside world, comparing that unit of the Nigerian bicameral legislature he managed its image to world parliaments, like the US Congress and the British House of Common, among others. At home, the House of Representatives earned “the Peoples Parliament” accolade “.
Recalling Okezie’s past, the nostalgia breeds excitement and a continuous commitment to legislative and representatives’ service to his people and the country.

Albeit these well delivered services, his underscoring accomplishments were reinforced by his promotion and advancement to the post of Deputy Speaker House of Representatives, a divine elevation to yet, many exalted offices to come.Kalu qualifies to be governor, and Vice President, even the President of this great country ,if young men are roundly supported for such enviable positions.

Notwithstanding, his Bills , motions are not watery but of immense value to democratic governance, systemic reforms and overall growth and welfare of Nigerians. Call it democratic dividends, the Bende constituents have never had it so good, until now. Similarly his quest for a people’s constitution brings to fore his worthy contributions in the current alteration of the1999 Constitution exercise which he midwife’s for the House of Representatives. He speaks continually about a people’s inclusiveness in people’s document. He speaks about equity, justice and fairness for all. He’s concerned about security, a community policing strategy where states look critically into domestic security and policing. Okezie speaks for all: about good life for Nigerians, not only the Abia people he represents.
Curiously, I have also come in good terms and stead with his leadership style, especially his legislative prowess in presiding, either as Speaker in Chair or Chairman at the Committee of Whole”,a serious and critical aspect of legislative business, where reports become laws made by the parliament. At this critical level of legislative engagement, Ben Okezie Kalu has performed extremely well ,surpassing past deputies. This scoring is without prejudice or gainsaying but with all modesty.
I have written about parliamentary activities, from plenary to investigative hearings, to deliberations and considerations of reports , either in Committee of Supply for money issues -budgets etc, since 2000. I have also been privileged to sit for longer periods listening from the gallery, deliberations at the “Committee of Whole’, a tedious and significant session of legislative processes and never seeing a deputy speaker as pragmatic and intelligent like Kalu. it takes a Chair that is not lazy but with dexterity, humility, patience and resilience to succeed in any report consideration at the “Committee of Whole”.And one former deputy speaker who comes close to Kalu in assesment was Hon Lasun. But with this current Deputy Speaker, the magic wand to navigate these trying moments where every member appears uninterested in their legislative function, is unprecedented.

Two manoeuvres that beat my imagination and exhibit Kalu’s superb style is his smooth management of deliberations and final consideration of the 2025 Electoral.Amendment Bill and the passage of the 2026-2028 MTEF and FSP, on Thursday December 18 2025, few moments to the 2026 Budget presentation by President Ahmed Tinubu to the joint session of the National Assembly.
His mental alertness, understanding of the subject matter, his assessment of the mood and psyche of the members and his strategic demeanour coupled with the patience and resilient approachas well as his humility, diplomacy in getting an unwilling session sit for hours, unknowingly to the members that they had sat for so long and passed a record two critical national assignments, still leaves even the members amiss how it began but ended well.

For over two weeks now, there have been several adjournments to consider the Electoral amendment Bill. The constraints at times point to the inconsequential number of members in session , or when there’s a seeming quorum, inertia and unwillingness sets in.
According to checks, members’ lacklustre attitude in these ending times, come from failed promises from the executive branch such that it was gathered that the lawmakers were adjourning for the yuletide break without cash -backings.This development not only worries the legislators who are at a loss over how to satify their insatiable constituents during the Christmas festivities, but has resulted to the lethargy displayed by them in carrying out their statutory duties of law making . Fears are that, the members may not chorus “on your mandate we stand”, going forward, especially on 19 Friday December 2025, when the President presents his 2026 budget to the joint session of the National Assembly
While the outcome of that session is awaited, the success gained in the House of Representatives for completing and finally passing the MTEF/FSP in record time and upon which premise President Tinubu submits the 2026 Appropriation Bill, after the Senate hurriedly put out their own since Tuesday evening, underscores the goodwill the deputy speaker enjoys from his colleagues, expectedy due to his humility and resilience, such that in over six- unstoppable hours, he successfully managed a tensed session to effectively pass the MTEF and Electoral.amenment Bill. This is all kudos to a young PAN- Nigerian legislator in our hearts

That Ben Okezie Kalu displays an uncommon leadership acumen, which promotes unity and which with he won the hearts of all who sat in plenary on that faithful Thursday 18 2025,is an understatement . This is so because all the lawmaker at that Thursday session, wether Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba,Edo, TIV ,Idoma,Gbagy and of course Ibo were in sync with, aligning with his master stroke with which he chaired that earlier unpredictable session that later became a huge success. I have a dream that Ben Okezie Kalu shall accomplish more in his political career, given his character, competence and leadership capacity.

He will excel beyond this time, tide and position. Ben Okezie Kalu is the lawmaker in our hearts and qualifies for our award as ‘ A Legislature- Exemplar’ even as we watch him deliver again during the final voting of the alteration to the 1999 constitution ( As Ammended) in the days to come

OMO-ADE Defects 150 Members from PDP, LP to APC in Ogun, Donates Megaphone to Party

A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Alhaji Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, popularly known as OMO-ADE, has successfully mobilised and welcomed over one hundred and fifty members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and other political parties into the APC.

The mass defection took place on Thursday, December 19, 2025, at an APC ward meeting in Ward 16, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, where the new members were formally presented to party leaders and faithful.

Leading the defectors into the party, OMO-ADE described the development as a clear indication of the growing acceptance of the APC at the grassroots level. He said the decision of the defectors to join the ruling party was driven by their belief in the party’s ideology, leadership structure and commitment to good governance.

In a gesture aimed at strengthening internal communication and organisation within the party, Alhaji Adebayo donated a large megaphone to the ward executives and members to enhance effective communication during meetings and party activities.

Addressing the new members, OMO-ADE admonished them to remain loyal and disciplined, urging them to strictly abide by the constitution of the All Progressives Congress. He warned against any form of anti-party activities, stressing that unity, loyalty and commitment are essential for the progress of the party.

He assured the defectors that the APC is a party that rewards loyalty and dedication, adding that members who remain faithful and law-abiding would benefit from the “dividends of democracy” as the party continues to consolidate its governance agenda.

Party leaders present at the meeting welcomed the new members with enthusiasm, describing the mass defection as a boost to the strength of the APC in Abeokuta North and Ogun State at large. They pledged to fully integrate the new members into the party structure and encouraged them to participate actively in party affairs.

The event ended with a show of solidarity, chants of party slogans and renewed commitment by members to work collectively for the growth and success of the APC in the state.

Banditry: Christian clerics, others call for arrest of Bafarawa, Yerima over killings in north West

A group of inter-faith religious leaders from northern Nigeria, styling themselves as the Concerned Northern Inter-Faith Clergy for Peace, has urgently called on President Bola Tinubu to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of former governors Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State and Ahmed Sani Yerima of Zamfara State.

The clerics led by Bishop Sunday Bawa in a press conference in Abuja alleged that the two ex-governors bear responsibility for laying the foundations of the rampant banditry terrorising the North-West region.

The appeal, issued in a strongly worded statement during the Yuletide season, references a widely circulated video released earlier this month by notorious bandit kingpin Bello Turji.

In the video, Turji accused Bafarawa and Yerima of seizing and selling vast grazing reserves designated for herders and arming vigilante groups, known as Yan Banga, which he claimed targeted and killed Fulani communities.

These actions, Turji alleged, sparked ethnic tensions and cycles of reprisal attacks that escalated into the current wave of kidnappings, massacres, and cattle rustling.

"Even though Turji is a confessed terrorist... we cannot ignore his words," the clergy said in statement signed by Imam Sheikh Yusuf Sarki, Bishop Pius Dauda and 10 others.

The group emphasised that the allegations point to deep-rooted issues of land dispossession and armed vigilantism that allowed criminal gangs to evolve into the "monsters" now plaguing the region.

The inter-faith body, comprising imams, pastors, bishops, and other spiritual leaders, expressed solidarity with bereaved families who have also petitioned President Tinubu for an investigation into the claims.

These families, many of whom have lost loved ones to bandit attacks, described the president as their "last hope" for justice after local efforts yielded no results.

Bawa highlighted the devastating toll of banditry, describing it as an "unfolding genocide."

They cited figures indicating over 13,485 deaths from banditry between 2010 and May 2023, with at least 2,266 killed in the first half of 2025 alone—surpassing the total for all of 2024.

Reports from bodies like Amnesty International and the National Human Rights Commission document thousands kidnapped, injured, or displaced, while economic losses run into trillions of naira due to disrupted farming, trade, and ransoms.

The statement criticised responses from Bafarawa and Yerima as "empty echoes" and denials, noting that the former governors claimed no significant banditry existed when they left office in 2007 and questioned the timing of the accusations.

"Time heals no guilt," the clerics retorted, arguing that evasion only fuels suspicion and impunity.
In a direct Yuletide appeal to President Tinubu, the group urged him to "immediately direct the arrest and prosecution" of the two former governors for "alleged acts that laid the foundations of this terror."

They further called for a transparent, independent probe—possibly with international oversight—into the allegations, alongside measures to address root causes like poverty and land disputes.

***Lauds Reforms on Transparency, Improved Crude Production

The Coalition of Civil Society for Transparency in the Extractive Industry (CCSTEI) has highly commended the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, for his transformative leadership in Nigeria's oil and gas sector.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja. the coalition's National Coordinator, Dr. Agabi Emanuel praised Ojulari's bold reforms that have enhanced transparency, boosted operational efficiency, and driven significant improvements in crude oil production.

The CCSTEI highlighted that since Ojulari's appointment in April 2025, NNPC Ltd has shifted from longstanding perceptions of opacity and inefficiency to a more commercially driven and accountable entity.

Key achievements noted include the consistent publication of monthly performance reports, which have fostered real-time stakeholder oversight.
Financially, the coalition applauded the company's 2024 audited results, which showed a record revenue of ₦45.1 trillion and a profit after tax of ₦5.4 trillion – marking a 64% year-on-year growth in profit.

On the production front, the group celebrated the milestone reached by NNPC Exploration and Production Limited (NEPL), the company's upstream subsidiary, which hit a daily crude oil output of 355,000 barrels on December 1, 2025 – the highest in 36 years.

This contributed to an average daily production increase of 52%, from 203,000 barrels per day in 2023 to 312,000 barrels per day in 2025.

The statement also acknowledged ongoing investments in gas infrastructure, including progress on projects like the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline, Escravos-Lagos Pipeline System (ELPS), and Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) pipeline, aimed at achieving ambitious targets of 10 billion cubic feet per day by 2027 and 12 billion by 2030.

While recognizing persistent challenges such as lingering public skepticism, oil theft, and global energy transitions, the CCSTEI called for continued support for Ojulari's leadership.

It recommended further enhancements in public engagement, third-party audits, anti-corruption measures, local content development, and alignment with energy transition goals.

Concluding the appraisal, Dr. Emanuel stated: "Bashir Bayo Ojulari and his team for restoring confidence in NNPC Limited after many challenging years.

"You have proven that visionary leadership, coupled with accountability and performance excellence, can redefine an institution for the better. We charge you to soldier on undeterred.

"The Nigerian people are watching, and with your continued resolve, NNPC Limited will not only drive economic prosperity but also serve as a beacon of transparent governance in Africa."

Banditry: Victims' Families write President Tinubu Over Turji's Confession, Demand Former Govs Yerima, Bafarawa's Arrest.

Bothered over persistent insecurity across the country, a coalition of families torn apart by rampant banditry in Northwest Nigeria has appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to investigate serious allegations against two former governors.

The Coalition of Families Affected by Banditry, representing victims who have lost loved ones, homes, and livelihoods to relentless violence, has written a letter to the President in Abuja.

Exhausted by domestic inaction, they called on the President to help uncover the truth behind claims that policies under former Zamfara Governor Ahmed Sani Yerima and former Sokoto Governor Attahiru Bafarawa laid the groundwork for the region's insecurity through the seizure of grazing reserves and arming of vigilante groups.

In the letter signed by Chairperson Otuba Rawene, Secretary Sani Usman, PRO Haj. Hadijat Abdullahi, and 20 others, the group said: " Many of us have lost loved ones in brutal killings, seen family members abducted, or been forced to flee our homes, leaving behind livelihoods and communities destroyed by violence.

"We write to Your Excellency with a profound sense of urgency and responsibility, seeking your support in addressing grave allegations recently made public by notorious bandit leader Bello Turji.

"In a widely circulated video released in December, 2025, Turji accused former Zamfara State Governor Ahmed Sani Yerima and former Sokoto State Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of laying the foundations for the current insecurity crisis.

"Specifically, he claimed that their policies— including the seizure and sale of grazing reserves and the arming of vigilante groups that targeted Fulani communities ignited ethnic tensions and cycles of reprisal violence that evolved into today's widespread banditry.

"While we acknowledge that Bello Turji is a wanted criminal responsible for countless atrocities, including the deaths of many of our relatives, we believe these allegations warrant serious and impartial scrutiny.

"As the proverb goes, 'where there is smoke, there is fire.' Having exhausted domestic avenues for justice often met with inaction or allegations being dismissed we turn to the President, a steadfast champion of human rights and accountability, as our last hope for uncovering the truth and ensuring justice prevails.

"The scale of suffering caused by banditry in Northwest Nigeria is staggering and demands international attention.

Reliable reports indicate thousands of civilian deaths, mass displacements, and profound economic devastation. For instance, between 2018 and 2020 alone, armed banditry caused at least 4,900 deaths.

"In the first half of 2025, over 2,266 people were killed by insurgents and bandits, surpassing the total for all of 2024. Recent data document thousands abducted annually, with verified ransom payments reaching billions of naira (e.g., N2.57 billion between July 2024 and June 2025).

"These attacks have displaced hundreds of thousands, disrupted agriculture and trade, deepened poverty, and inflicted lasting trauma on survivors. Communities live in constant fear, with bandits imposing illegal levies and operating with impunity.

"As victims seeking justice and an end to this cycle of violence, we implore the Nigerian government to publicly to launch a prompt, independent, and thorough investigation into Bello Turji's allegations against the named former governors. Offer technical assistance or support international oversight to ensure the probe is credible and free from political interference.

"Advocate for broader measures to address impunity, including sanctions if evidence of complicity in serious crimes emerges. We firmly believe that accountability for those who may have contributed to this crisis regardless of their status is essential to breaking the cycle of violence and restoring peace."

In a bid to cushion the effects of the current economic realities and spread goodwill during the festive season, the Senior Special Adviser to Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, on Environment, Alhaji Farouk Akintunde, has distributed food materials and cash support to religious leaders and political stakeholders across the fifteen wards of Abeokuta South Constituency.

The distribution was done last week Friday, shortly after Jumat prayer.

Beneficiaries received essential food items alongside cash assistance to enable them cater for their immediate needs during the festive period.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Alhaji Akintunde said the gesture was inspired by the compassionate leadership style of Governor Dapo Abiodun and his commitment to inclusive governance. According to him, the administration remains resolute in ensuring that governance is felt directly by the people, especially at the grassroots level.

“This initiative is in line with the vision of His Excellency, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, to ensure that no segment of society is left behind. The festive season is a time of sharing and caring, and it is important that our people, particularly religious and political leaders who play key roles in community development, feel supported,” Akintunde stated.

He noted that religious leaders and politicians serve as vital links between the government and the people, adding that empowering them would further strengthen unity, peace and socio-economic stability within the constituency.

Several beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful. They commended Alhaji Akintunde for his continued engagement with the grassroots and lauded Governor Abiodun for fostering a governance culture centered on empathy and responsiveness.

A cleric who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries said the intervention would go a long way in supporting vulnerable members of their communities, while also promoting harmony during the festive season.

The distribution exercise further underscores the Ogun State Government’s commitment to social welfare and its broader agenda of improving the quality of life for residents across the state through inclusive and people-focused initiatives.

Okanlomo of Ibadanland: A Title Forged by Service, Sacrifice and Transformational Philanthropy

In Ibadanland, where history breathes through ancient walls and the echoes of warrior ancestors still shape civic pride, titles are never ornamental. They are earned, defended, and remembered. Among such revered distinctions stands the title of Okanlomo of Ibadanland—a rare honour that symbolizes leadership, compassion, and responsibility over a land of immense scale and influence.

Ibadan, Africa’s third-largest city, spans more than ten local government areas and is home to a population exceeding five million people. It is a city of contrasts: tradition and modernity, struggle and triumph, resilience and ambition. To be entrusted with a title that represents this vast and storied land is no small feat. The Okanlomo is not merely a chief; he is a moral compass, a bridge between privilege and the people, and a custodian of communal progress.

From its inception, the title has been reserved for men whose lives reflect extraordinary philanthropy and transformational leadership—individuals whose generosity has uplifted communities and rewritten destinies.

The foundation of this legacy was laid by Chief Nathaniel Olabiyi Idowu, the inaugural Okanlomo of Ibadanland. Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s greatest philanthropists, Chief Idowu’s name became synonymous with compassion in action. His interventions cut across education, healthcare, community development, and social welfare at a time when such support was desperately needed. Schools were built, lives were restored, and hope was rekindled in countless homes through his quiet but powerful generosity. His reign as Okanlomo set a gold standard—establishing the title as one rooted not in wealth alone, but in selfless service to humanity.

Years later, the torch of this noble tradition was carried forward by Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, whose installation as Okanlomo in March 2017 marked another defining chapter in Ibadan’s contemporary history. His elevation was not the product of political influence or ceremonial courtesy, but of proven merit.

Senator Akanbi earned the honour through decades of tangible contributions to Ibadanland and its people. His philanthropy touched lives across social strata—supporting education, empowering youths, aiding the vulnerable, and investing in initiatives that strengthened the social fabric of the city. His approach mirrored the essence of Ibadan’s warrior spirit: fearless in service, strategic in impact, and unwavering in commitment to the collective good.

The late monarch who installed him, Oba Soliu Akanmu Adetunji (Aje Oguguliso I), was himself a symbol of industrious leadership. Regarded as one of the most dynamic and forward-thinking Olubadan monarchs Ibadan ever produced, Oba Adetunji believed deeply in honouring merit and rewarding service. His reign was marked by a deliberate effort to align traditional institutions with modern development, and the installation of Senator Akanbi as Okanlomo reflected that philosophy.

In a rare and deeply symbolic gesture, the monarch also honoured Senator Akanbi’s wife with the title of Yeye Okanlomo of Ibadanland. This recognition went beyond ceremony—it acknowledged the often-unseen role of partnership in philanthropy and leadership. Together, the couple represented a shared legacy of compassion, service, and community upliftment, reinforcing the idea that lasting impact is most powerful when built collectively.

Today, the title of Okanlomo stands as a beacon of what leadership in Ibadanland should embody. It is a reminder that true greatness lies not in accumulation, but in contribution; not in privilege, but in purpose. In a city defined by its size, strength, and historical relevance, the Okanlomo remains a moral institution—challenging the elite to give back, inspiring the next generation to serve, and preserving the soul of Ibadan through acts of kindness and courage.

As Ibadan continues to grow and evolve, the legacy of the Okanlomo—shaped by icons like Chief Nathaniel Olabiyi Idowu and Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi—serves as a timeless reminder: titles may confer honour, but it is service that confers immortality.

The Nigerian oil and gas sector, since its discovery, exploration, and exploitation at the turn of the century, has become the goose that lays the golden egg, likened only to the much-sought-after bride.

This is because oil, and later gas, remained the main economic sustainer, accounting for virtually all the revenue utilised for the economic sustainability and stability of the country—a nation driven by a monolithic economy.

Various attempts at sustaining its viability failed because those reforms lacked the necessary ingredients and the political will of their drivers to succeed. Moreover, the temptation of the enormous amounts generated, and the ease of generating this revenue, became stronger than the moral responsibility and patriotic devotion of the country's leaders, causing various rulers to rely completely on oil while abandoning or ignoring agriculture and every other means of generating revenue, including all forms of diversification and integration.

The present Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) was born out of necessity: first, to inherit the abnormalities of the past; and second, to set in motion reforms aimed at effectively repositioning the sector. Key among these is strong political will and the appropriate sensitisation of the country's political leaders to look beyond oil and gas revenue and think towards diversification.

To carry this out effectively, there is a need to build trust and confidence on the fulcrum of accountability and transparency.
So far, the verdict has been positive. The basic recipe for repositioning and bringing about a volte-face in the sector is now present: accountability and transparency.

A new era, based on a better concept of transparency and accountability, is enhancing the effective repositioning of the Nigerian oil and gas sector, which will work for the overall benefit of all citizens and indeed residents.

Today, Nigerians are now seeing the oil and gas sector as a blessing, with transparency and accountability becoming the fulcrum of operations at the NUPRC.

There is no doubt that, for decades, Nigeria's oil and gas sector was a cesspit of abhorrent and odious corruption, coupled with mismanagement—a centre of graft, earning the moniker "resource curse."
Instead of bringing blessings to the country, it became an avenue for self-aggrandisement and self-enrichment at the detriment of national interest, economic growth, prosperity, and development.

As a whole, the sector's opacity and lack of accountability led to widespread corruption, where the few who had access to this national wealth enriched themselves and their families—buying choice houses at highly exorbitant prices in prime cities of the world and sending their children to schools abroad on ear-splitting school fees, all with our common patrimony—at the expense of the country. This resulted in environmental degradation and human rights abuses, leaving citizens with little to show for the country's vast oil resources, world oil production status, and its derived and associated wealth.

However, a new dawn has emerged with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) leading a rescue mission to reposition the sector with renewed vigour, intentionality, and patriotic commitment under the leadership of Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, who has turned the NUPRC into a beacon of hope for Nigerians.
Unambiguously, the NUPRC's commitment to transparency is demonstrated through its proactive disclosure of key industry data—which had previously been shrouded in obscurity—including production figures, revenue streams, and contract awards.

The demystification and openness of this key information have greatly enhanced the fostering of trust and confidence among stakeholders, including local communities, civil society organisations, and international partners.
Another signature reform is the strengthening and implementation of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), which ensures that oil and gas revenues are transparently tracked and accounted for, thereby reducing corruption and ensuring that revenues are channelled for the overall benefit of all citizens.

Projecting the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu-led administration, the NUPRC has also prioritised increased utilisation of local content development, bringing on board many more Nigerian companies to participate in the oil and gas value chain, thereby creating more jobs, stimulating economic growth, and empowering local communities.

The sector's transformation is an unequivocal demonstration of the power of transparency and accountability.
Daily, Nigerians are beginning to see oil and gas resources as a direct blessing rather than a curse, with a sector and operators poised to drive economic growth, create jobs, and improve living standards.

However, this is just the beginning; the journey is far from over, and the best is yet to come—for all of us.
While Nigerians holistically embrace these reforms, they must also continue to demand transparency and accountability from their leaders, while the NUPRC's efforts must be supported and sustained to ensure that the sector remains a catalyst for national development.

There is no doubt that the oil and gas sector can be a powerful catalytic tool for poverty reduction, wealth creation, and economic transformation. This can be imminently and necessarily achieved when the NUPRC continues in its commitment to transparency and accountability, predicated on the resilience of Nigerians, who will look forward to a brighter future where their natural resources work for them, not against them.

It must be a collaborative and conscientious responsibility of all Nigerians not only to support the NUPRC's efforts and reforms targeted at transforming the oil and gas sector but also to demand consistent transparency and accountability from our leaders, as this will ensure that our natural resources benefit all Nigerians, securing a brighter future for Nigeria and Nigerians.

His philanthropy is not seasonal, political, or selective—it is inborn, sincere, and deeply rooted in his character.

Across Ogun State and beyond, Engr. Oludotun’s acts of kindness speak louder than any title he holds. From supporting the less privileged, empowering youths, assisting families in distress, and responding swiftly to community needs, his generosity cuts across social, religious, and political boundaries. For him, making people happy is not an obligation—it is a lifestyle. As the days go by, his confidence and commitment to giving continue to grow, driven by a genuine desire to see others smile and succeed.

Beyond philanthropy, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun has also distinguished himself as a technocrat and administrator of high repute. He currently serves as the Honourable Commissioner for Forestry in Ogun State under the visionary leadership of Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON. Group Calls for Independent Probe into Alleged Kwara Govt Arming of Bandits

The Crisis and Situation Monitoring Room (CSMR), a human rights advocacy organisation, has issued a strong demand for an immediate, independent investigation into serious allegations linking the Kwara State Government to the arming of criminal elements responsible for escalating banditry in the state.

The group's intervention follows widespread public concern over claims that prohibited firearms and a government-branded security vehicle ended up in the hands of suspected bandits operating in Ifelodun Local Government Area and beyond.

In a statement, Dr. Anthony Rowland Attah, Executive Director of CSMR, sharply criticised Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq's administration for what he described as a dangerous pattern of insecurity and potential complicity that has eroded public trust.

“The allegations emerging from recent security operations are not mere rumours but point to a profound crisis of governance in Kwara State," he said.

"If officials under Governor Abdulrazaq have facilitated the distribution of AK-47 rifles – weapons exclusively reserved for federal security forces – to non-state actors masquerading as patrol operatives, this constitutes a direct assault on national security and a blatant violation of the 1999 Constitution.

“Section 14(2)(b) unequivocally states that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government. Yet, under this administration, communities in Ifelodun, Edu, Patigi, and other areas have endured relentless attacks, kidnappings, and killings, with hundreds displaced and lives lost.

"Arming criminals, whether intentionally or through gross negligence, transforms the state from protector to perpetrator, amounting to nothing short of state-enabled terrorism.

“We reject any attempt to dismiss these claims as misinformation without transparent accountability. The presence of a local government security vehicle in the possession of armed suspects raises unavoidable questions about oversight, procurement, and distribution chains within the governor's apparatus.

"No state governor possesses the constitutional authority to procure or distribute military-grade weapons like AK-47s, as confirmed repeatedly by legal precedents and federal regulations.

“To ensure an impartial process free from executive interference, we insist on a federal-led independent probe, ideally through a judicial commission of inquiry or special panel appointed by the President.

"This investigation must trace the provenance of the weapons, examine logistical support provided to alleged vigilante groups, and identify any officials involved, including those referenced in public accounts.

“Furthermore, in light of the gravity of these allegations and to prevent any tampering with evidence or witnesses, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to invoke necessary constitutional measures to suspend Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq from office pending the conclusion of investigations.

"Such action would uphold due process, restore confidence in governance, and align with established precedents in cases of serious misconduct threatening public safety.”

Dr. Attah emphasised that CSMR's demand stems from a commitment to constitutionalism and human rights, warning that failure to act decisively could embolden criminal networks and further destabilise the North-Central region.

The group noted ongoing insecurity trends in Kwara, including killings, reported abductions and attacks that have prompted school closures and community displacements, arguing that the current administration has failed in its fundamental duty to safeguard citizens.

While the Kwara State Government has issued denials, asserting no arrests occurred within its borders and no authority to distribute prohibited arms, CSMR maintained that such responses fall short without verifiable independent scrutiny.

Coalition Announces Nationwide and Global Protests Demanding Immediate Removal of NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed

A powerful coalition of civil society organizations has declared joint nationwide protests across Nigeria, with simultaneous demonstrations in New York and London, to demand the immediate removal of Farouk Ahmed as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

The protests will commence on Wednesday from Ahmed's office in Abuja and continue throughout the week in major cities, while diaspora actions target the UN House in New York and Nigeria House in London.

The coalition includes the Nigerian Citizens for Transparency (NCT), Anti-Corruption Alliance of Nigeria (ACAN), Sokoto Welfare Foundation (SWF), Coalition for Economic Justice (CEJ), African Refiners Network (ARN), Lagos Civil Rights Movement (LCRM), Global Nigerians Diaspora Forum (GNDF), Nigerian Integrity Watch (NIW), Petroleum Workers Union of Nigeria (PWUN), Youth Empowerment Initiative (YEI), Economic Sabotage Watch Group (ESWG), International Coalition Against Corruption (ICAC) and Diaspora Advocacy Network (DAN).

Others are British-Nigerian Solidarity Forum (BNSF), Anti-Graft Campaign UK (AGCU), Human Rights Defenders League (HRDL), Sustainable Energy Alliance (SEA), and National Anti-Corruption Front (NACF).

"Nigerians are deeply shocked and outraged that a public official entrusted with regulating a critical national resource has allegedly squandered millions of dollars sending just three of his children to exclusive secondary schools in Switzerland, while millions of suffering citizens in his home state of Sokoto and across the country cannot afford basic school fees," a statement by Comrade Dan Danilson on behalf of the groups said.

"These allegations expose a glaring betrayal of public trust and highlight unacceptable extravagance at the direct expense of impoverished communities in Nigeria and beyond."

Danilson condemned Ahmed's conduct in the strongest terms and vowed unrelenting pressure until he is removed and fully investigated.

Dan Danilson stated:
"The lavish lifestyle of Farouk Ahmed, funded by questionable wealth while he occupies one of the most sensitive positions in Nigeria's economy, is an intolerable insult to every struggling Nigerian.

"Spending millions on foreign luxury education for his children while Sokoto parents beg to pay N10,000 school fees reveals a man utterly detached from the suffering he is supposed to help alleviate.

"These are not mere allegations—they point to deep corruption and conflict of interest that have directly sabotaged Nigeria's push for energy independence. By protecting fuel importers and undermining local refineries, Ahmed has chosen personal gain over national progress, condemning millions to continued poverty and fuel scarcity.

"We will not stand by as one man hands over Nigeria's downstream petroleum sector to vested foreign interests. His actions amount to economic treason, enriching himself and his allies while driving domestic investments to ruin and keeping petrol prices artificially high for the suffering masses.

"The protests starting Wednesday from his very office will send an unmistakable message: Farouk Ahmed must go now. No investigation can restore the trust he has shattered; only his immediate removal will begin to heal the damage he has inflicted on our nation.

"We call on all Nigerians—home and abroad—to join this historic stand against corruption. This is our moment to hit back hard against those who plunder our future for private luxury. Farouk Ahmed's time is up."

The coalition emphasized that the allegations against Ahmed are far too grave to be dismissed or covered up, warning that failure to act decisively would signal official tolerance of corruption in critical sectors.

OMO-ADE Applauds Abiodun for Driving Arts, Culture, Creative Economy at Artnovation Launch

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Alhaji Yisa Ismaila Adebayo, popularly known as Omo-Ade, has commended the Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his sustained commitment to the promotion of arts, culture and the creative economy in Nigeria.

Alhaji Adebayo gave the commendation on Monday, December 15, 2025, following the official launch of Artnovation: Afro-Italian Renaissance (AAR) Exhibition held at the Italian Consulate in Lagos, which was attended by Governor Abiodun.

Describing the governor’s presence and endorsement of the initiative as timely and visionary, Omo-Ade said the Abiodun administration has consistently demonstrated that creativity, culture and indigenous enterprise can serve as powerful tools for economic growth, youth empowerment and international collaboration.

“The governor’s passion for arts and culture is evident in his policies and actions. By supporting initiatives like Artnovation, Prince Dapo Abiodun is not only preserving our heritage but also positioning Ogun State as a major hub in Nigeria’s creative economy,” Adebayo said.

At the event, Governor Abiodun formally endorsed the Artnovation initiative as a strategic platform to expand Ogun State’s creative economy while strengthening cultural and economic ties between Ogun State and the Italian Republic. The exhibition featured prominently original àdìrẹ fabrics from Ojude Aso, one of the newly established stores at the recently revamped Olumo Rock Tourism Complex in Abeokuta.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, the governor stated that creativity remains a key driver of economic diversification, job creation, tourism development and sustainable revenue generation. He noted that Ogun State’s investments in arts, culture and indigenous enterprises — including the revitalisation of Olumo Rock and the promotion of Adire — are already yielding positive results.

Governor Abiodun further disclosed that through strategic partnerships with the Italian Consulate in Lagos and the Creative Youth Community Development Initiative (CYCDI–Solution17), Ogun State is well positioned to play a leading role in shaping Nigeria’s creative economy and exporting its cultural assets to the global stage.

The Artnovation launch also featured the unveiling of the Afro-Italian Art Exhibition by renowned master artist, Tola Wewe, alongside vibrant runway showcases, poetry readings and musical performances that celebrated the fusion of African and Italian creativity.

One of the major highlights of the event was the announcement that Ogun State will be showcased at the prestigious Milan Design Week 2026. According to stakeholders, this development represents a significant milestone that will enhance global visibility for Ogun State, open new trade and investment opportunities, and deepen cultural and economic collaboration between Ogun State and Italy.

Alhaji Adebayo concluded by urging stakeholders, artists and the private sector to continue supporting the Abiodun-led administration’s creative initiatives, noting that culture-driven development remains a sustainable pathway to economic prosperity and global relevance for Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

Ijebu Royal Descendant, Olawunmi Samuel Omo'ba Anikinaiya Alleges Plot by Traditional Rulers to Despise His Family, Seize Ancestral Land and Chieftaincy Stool

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

A member of a recognized Ijebu royal lineage, Prince Olawunmi Samuel Omo'ba Anikinaiya, has issued a public notice alleging an ongoing conspiracy by three traditional rulers within the Erebe Ijebu axis of Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, to dispossess his family of its ancestral heritage.

In a statement circulated to the media, Anikinaiya, who described himself as a graduate of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, and a farmer, claimed that the alleged plot is aimed at usurping the royal lineage, ancestral lands, family identity, and chieftaincy stool of the Adekoya Ofirigidi Anikinaiya Ruling House.

According to him, the disputed area—Erebe Ijebu—is the ancestral homestead of the Oloja Adekoya Ofirigidi lineage, which he said has historically belonged to his family. He alleged that certain individuals, operating under the name Sangokoya Ofirigidi, are impersonating their ancestor and unlawfully selling family land to real estate developers and private buyers.

Anikinaiya further alleged that the traditional rulers involved, working with unnamed accomplices and with the alleged support of a senior police officer, are planning to fabricate allegations of attempted murder and other criminal claims against him and key members of his family and community.

“I have no criminal record and have lived a peaceful life as a farmer and community member,” he stated. “These allegations are, in my view, a calculated attempt to intimidate us and remove us from the picture so our heritage can be taken over.”

Expressing grave concern for his personal safety and that of his family, Anikinaiya said the situation has become more alarming following the death of his immediate junior brother in February this year, which he described as occurring under mysterious circumstances.

He accused relevant authorities of failing to act despite being aware of the dispute and the escalating tensions. “I hold the authorities responsible for any harm that may come to me or members of my family due to their inaction,” he said.

Calling on the people of Ijebuland, traditional stakeholders, and concerned citizens, Anikinaiya appealed for support in what he described as a struggle against land grabbing, impersonation, and the distortion of family history.

“The attempt to rewrite our history and take over our land is a travesty,” he said. “I am not afraid to die, but I will not allow the legacy of my ancestors to be destroyed. I demand justice and protection.”

As of press time, efforts to obtain responses from the traditional institutions and security authorities referenced in the allegations had not yielded results. The newspaper will continue to monitor developments and present all sides of the matter as more information becomes available.

Taiwo Oludotun: Power Engineer Turning the Tide for Ogun’s Forests

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

Hon. Engr. Taiwo Oludotun has emerged as one of the quiet reformers in Ogun State’s public service, blending technical discipline with environmental leadership as the state’s Commissioner for Forestry. An electrical power engineer by training, Oludotun has built a reputation for firm but practical governance, steering the state’s forestry sector toward accountability, sustainability, and climate resilience.

Born on October 25, 1973, in Lagos State and rooted in the Owu Kingdom of Abeokuta North, he received his early education at Catholic Comprehensive Secondary School, Ibara, Abeokuta. He went on to earn a National Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering from Ogun State Polytechnic, Ojere, and a Higher National Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering from Yaba College of Technology. His academic journey was further strengthened by a Post-Graduate Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, as well as an international certificate in Public Utility Regulation and Strategy from the University of Florida, USA.

Before joining government, Oludotun built a solid private-sector career. He trained at Debo Industry in Oshodi and later rose through the ranks at Unistar Hi-Tech Systems Limited, Lagos, becoming General Manager. His years in power systems and corporate management shaped a results-driven mindset that would later define his public service.

Screened and confirmed by the Ogun State House of Assembly in 2023, he returned to the State Executive Council as Commissioner for Forestry at a time when the sector faced serious threats from illegal logging, forest encroachment, revenue leakages, and environmental degradation. His response has been both strategic and decisive.

Under his leadership, the ministry introduced a digital payment platform for logging operations to block revenue leakages and improve transparency. He also championed the deployment of Amotekun operatives into forest reserves to curb illegal logging, encroachment, and allied crimes, sending a strong signal that the era of impunity in protected areas is ending.

Beyond enforcement, Oludotun has positioned forestry as a frontline tool in Ogun’s climate response. He has been a visible advocate of tree-planting campaigns, supporting the state’s ambitious one-million-tree drive and the development of green recreational parks. His approach balances strict regulation with community engagement, working closely with traditional rulers, forest-edge communities, private firms, and civil society groups to promote shared responsibility for conservation.

Colleagues describe his leadership style as pragmatic, disciplined, and collaborative. A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), he is known for bringing engineering precision into public administration—measuring impact, tightening processes, and insisting on results.

In a political environment often shaped by noise, Hon. Taiwo Oludotun stands out for substance: a technocrat turned steward of nature, quietly powering a greener, safer future for Ogun State.

Security Agencies Uncover Plot to Stage Protest Against President Tinubu, NSA Ribadu

Nigeria’s security agencies have reportedly uncovered a plan by some opposition politicians to organise protests in Sokoto and other northern states against President Bola Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Fresh intelligence reports made available to journalists on Friday show that former Senator Kabiru Marafa is the main arrowhead of the plot.

The group is allegedly working to discredit NSA Nuhu Ribadu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, by falsely linking them to bandit groups and using a Sokoto-based militia to trigger violent protests.

Sources say the Zamfara State Government, led by Governor Dauda Lawal, is strongly backing the plan and providing funding, determined to paint the federal security team as incompetent and force the removal of both Ribadu and Matawalle.

Security operatives detected the scheme this week, monitored several planning meetings in Gusau and Abuja, blocked funding channels, and quietly disrupted the operation.

No arrests have been made, but all the key figures are now under close surveillance.

The key figures are now being monitored by security agencies to track their key sources of funding.

Jema'a LG Chair Hails Gov Uba Sani’s People-Centric 2025 Budget

By Israel Bulus, Kaduna

The Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Area, Hon. Peter Tanko Dogara, has praised Kaduna State Governor Sen. Uba Sani for presenting a people-focused and development-driven 2025 budget, describing it as a plan that speaks directly to the needs of citizens.

Reacting to the nearly ₦1 trillion Appropriation Bill, the largest in the state’s history, Dogara said the budget rekindles hope, particularly in rural communities long challenged by insecurity, poor infrastructure, and limited access to essential services.

“Every budget carries a story. This one speaks about the people,” Dogara said. He commended the governor’s growing internally generated revenue, which has made such a comprehensive budget possible.

He noted that the emphasis on agriculture, security, education, healthcare, and infrastructure aligns closely with his own 5-point development agenda for Jema’a, which prioritises primary healthcare, basic education, empowerment and agriculture, security, and investment.

“The intention behind the figures is what matters most to me as Chairman of Jema’a. These reflect the everyday needs of our people,” Dogara said.

“I am happy that the budget is bringing hope for our people and Kaduna State in general.”

Dogara pledged to advocate for increased allocations to Jema’a Local Government, stressing that the council would ensure that approved funds directly benefit citizens.

“As chairman, I will do everything possible to push for more funds for the good of my people. When the budget is passed, we shall ensure that the people benefit. That, to me, is what leadership is all about,” he added.

The 2025 budget, themed “Sustainable Growth and Shared Prosperity,” prioritises security operations, rural roads, agricultural value chains, and social services, areas considered critical to economic stability and citizen well-being.
