Grassroots First: Why Abeokuta South Is Looking Toward High Chief Toyin Amuzu for Transformational Representation

By Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

As conversations around representation and development in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, many residents are increasingly emphasizing the importance of leadership that understands and responds to grassroots needs. For a growing number of people across the constituency’s 15 wards, one name continues to stand out: High Chief Toyin Amuzu.

Long before formally seeking elective office, Amuzu built a reputation rooted in community engagement and practical intervention. Supporters say his journey into politics did not begin with campaign rallies or party platforms, but with extensive visibility studies carried out across all wards in Abeokuta South. During these visits, he reportedly engaged with traders, artisans, students, transport workers, and community leaders to identify their most pressing challenges. His findings, they note, shaped a series of interventions aimed at improving livelihoods and easing daily burdens for residents.

One of the earliest initiatives attributed to Amuzu was direct financial support for small-scale traders. Through grants distributed within local markets, beneficiaries were able to expand or stabilize their businesses, creating ripple effects across the local economy. In addition, his foundation has been credited with sponsoring educational opportunities for numerous young people. From paying West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees for students to assisting candidates with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registrations, the initiative aimed to remove financial barriers to education for families within the constituency.

Education support has reportedly extended beyond examination fees. According to community members, several primary and secondary school students have been placed on a termly tuition support scheme funded by Amuzu’s foundation. Parents who have benefited say such assistance has helped keep children in school and reduced dropout rates in some areas.

Access to clean water has long been a concern across parts of Abeokuta South, and supporters highlight this as another area where Amuzu intervened. After consultations with community representatives, his team undertook the installation of borehole systems across the constituency. A total of 45 boreholes were reportedly constructed across the 15 wards, with many still functioning and providing water to residents. For communities that previously relied on distant or unreliable water sources, the impact has been described as significant.

Transport workers have also been among the beneficiaries of his outreach. Taxi drivers operating within the constituency received fuel support packages aimed at cushioning the effects of rising operational costs. More than 500 public taxi operators were said to have benefited, a move that many drivers described as timely and supportive of their daily livelihoods.

Observers note that these interventions were carried out without Amuzu holding any political office, a point frequently raised by his supporters as evidence of his commitment to service rather than position. They argue that his approach has been inclusive, cutting across party lines and focusing instead on community needs. His engagement style, they say, reflects a belief that effective representation must be grounded in accessibility and responsiveness.

As discussions turn toward the 2027 House of Representatives election, Amuzu’s backers maintain that his track record positions him as a candidate capable of facilitating development-oriented projects. They express confidence that, if elected, he would prioritize improvements in healthcare delivery, education systems, infrastructure, and legislative initiatives aimed at enhancing quality of life across the constituency.

While the political landscape remains dynamic and voters will ultimately decide at the polls, the conversation in Abeokuta South continues to center on leadership that understands the realities of everyday life. For many residents, the appeal of a candidate with an established presence at the grassroots level is clear.

Whether through educational sponsorships, water projects, trader support, or transport relief, the narrative surrounding High Chief Toyin Amuzu is one of community-focused engagement. As 2027 approaches, his supporters believe that the same grassroots-driven approach could shape a new chapter of representation for Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.

PoliticsWhen Leadership Becomes Self-interest – Senator Bamidele Dilemma by AmeboFeeds(op): 4:42pm On Jan 30
When Leadership Becomes Self-Interest – Senator Bamidele Dilemma

Ekiti State finds itself at a crossroads. While the people look to their leaders for unity, representation, and the protection of their political interests, disturbing reports from sources inside the government house reveal a troubling pattern of betrayal and self-interest centered on Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele, the Leader of the Senate and Caucus Leader of Ekiti’s National Assembly Members.

Senator Bamidele has reportedly waged a quiet, calculated campaign against former Governor Kayode Fayemi, deliberately sowing discord between him and Governor Biodun Oyebanji. His actions, according to insiders, are not driven by principle, ideology, or concern for the welfare of Ekiti, but by a relentless personal ambition.

He has systematically positioned himself to advance his political career at the expense of the collective good of the state, undermining both his colleagues and the people they represent.

As Senate Leader and Caucus Leader, Senator Bamidele’s role should have been to protect and advocate for the National Assembly Members from Ekiti. Instead, sources allege that he betrayed his colleagues, scheming to ensure that none of them would secure return tickets in the 2027 elections while consolidating his own advantage.

In a shocking display of political manipulation, he reportedly worked closely with the Governor and other influential leaders to orchestrate the withdrawal of support for sitting members, effectively placing their political futures in jeopardy. While his colleagues believed they had a champion fighting for their interests at the federal level, the reality, according to insiders, was the exact opposite: he was quietly working to eliminate competition and guarantee his own political survival.

Even more concerning, Senator Bamidele is reportedly using his personal relationship with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the national leader of their party, to monopolize access to the President. Sources claim that not even the Governor of Ekiti can meet with the President without Senator Bamidele’s knowledge or consent.

This monopolization of access is more than just a power grab; it is a direct attack on the democratic process and the ability of Ekiti’s leadership to secure federal support and resources for the state. By controlling who can and cannot access the highest office in the land, he has turned governance itself into a tool for his personal ambition.

Additionally, all Grade A federal appointments that should have been distributed to Ekiti, in recognition of the state’s contribution and loyalty to the party, have reportedly been blocked or diverted, ensuring that benefits meant for Ekiti are instead used to reinforce his personal influence.

Positions that could have strengthened Ekiti’s representation at the national level offices that could have brought development, employment, and influence back home were systematically withheld, depriving the state of its rightful share.

Senator Bamidele’s betrayal does not stop there. As caucus leader, he was expected to ensure fair representation, protect his colleagues’ political futures, and advocate for the collective interest of Ekiti.

Instead, he is alleged to have manipulated the system to prevent all other National Assembly Members from securing their return tickets for 2027. Sources indicate that he lobbied party leaders and collaborated with the Governor to withdraw support from his colleagues, ensuring that only he remains in a favorable position. This is not leadership; it is the abuse of power and the weaponization of political structures to serve self-interest.

Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, why are you betraying your own colleagues just to scheme them out for your selfish ambition? Why sabotage those who look up to you as their leader all for personal gain? The people of Ekiti deserve leaders who serve the collective good, not opportunists who exploit trust and positions to consolidate power for themselves.

Shockingly, many of his colleagues remain unaware of the betrayal. They continue to praise him as their champion, believing that he is working tirelessly to safeguard their interests at the national level. The truth, however, is that he has been quietly undermining them at every step. From lobbying against their return tickets to manipulating party structures and resources, Senator Bamidele has effectively traded the political futures of his colleagues for his personal advantage.

The timing of these actions also reveals his opportunism. During critical moments in the governorship race, when Governor Oyebanji’s chances of winning appeared uncertain, Senator Bamidele reportedly attempted to withdraw his support from the Governor and lobby for himself.

When it became clear that his ambitions could not be realized against the sitting Governor, he returned to the fold, resuming his role in manipulating positions and appointments to serve his personal goals. This pattern demonstrates a leader who is not guided by principle or loyalty, but by expedience and self-interest.

The consequences of his actions are far-reaching. By sabotaging his colleagues, monopolizing access to the President, and blocking key appointments, Senator Bamidele has weakened Ekiti’s voice at the national level. Instead of ensuring that the state benefits from its political contributions and loyalty, he has turned every opportunity into a tool to advance his own political career. The people of Ekiti, who rely on fair representation, development projects, and federal appointments, have effectively been sidelined by a leader who was entrusted to protect their interests.

Ekiti cannot afford to remain silent in the face of such betrayal. National Assembly Members representing the state must be made aware of these manipulations and act to safeguard their positions. The citizens of Ekiti must rise and demand accountability from leaders who place personal ambition above public service. The state’s political future and development cannot be held hostage by one man’s quest for power.

Senator Bamidele must be called out for his actions. Personal ambition cannot be allowed to destroy Ekiti’s political future, undermine its leadership, and compromise its access to national resources. As the 2027 elections approach, we demand that he desist from manipulating party structures, blocking federal appointments, and monopolizing access to leadership for his own gain. Ekiti deserves leaders who prioritize the collective interest above self-interest, not political opportunists who exploit their positions to consolidate power.

Ekiti has long prided itself on producing leaders who are principled, fair, and committed to the welfare of the people. The actions attributed to Senator Bamidele threaten that tradition. By betraying colleagues, sabotaging return tickets, and monopolizing access to federal power, he risks not only his own legacy but also the stability, unity, and progress of Ekiti as a whole.

It is time for citizens, party leaders, and National Assembly Members to demand accountability. Ekiti cannot allow personal ambition to dictate its political future. The betrayal of colleagues, the blocking of appointments, and the manipulation of access to leadership are not just political missteps, they are deliberate actions that compromise the interests of the state.

The 2027 elections present a critical moment. Ekiti must rise to ensure that no individual can use the machinery of government or party structures to further personal ambition at the expense of collective progress. Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele must be held accountable. The people of Ekiti deserve leaders who serve with integrity, protect their colleagues, and safeguard the state’s interests above personal gain. Anything less is unacceptable.

Ekiti cannot be held hostage by ambition. The time to expose betrayal, demand accountability, and reclaim the state’s political future is now.

Amuzu facilitated the drilling of over 45 borehole projects across grassroots communities. Unlike charity driven by publicity, Engr. Oludotun’s approach has been consistent and people-focused. His concern has always centered on practical ways to improve living conditions, empower individuals, and strengthen communities. From personal assistance to community-based support, his actions have spoken louder than words, building trust across Abeokuta North, Odeda, and Obafemi-Owode.

With his engineering background and practical mindset, many believe he possesses both the technical understanding and the human compassion required to drive sustainable development.

In a political environment where promises are often made and forgotten, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun’s long-standing record of service offers something different: credibility built on action. Politics2027: Group Urges Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi To Contest Niger Go by AmeboFeeds(op): 2:53pm On Jan 28
2027: Group Urges Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi to Contest Niger Governorship

A group known as the Niger Progressives & Prosperity Promoters (NPPP) has issued a strong public appeal urging Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, to contest the 2027 governorship election in Niger State.

In a statement dated January 27, 2026, signed by Dr. Ibrahim K. Mohammed as convener, the group criticized the current administration under Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for what it described as excessive international travels, unfulfilled agreements, and lack of tangible development in areas like water supply, jobs, agriculture, security, and infrastructure, despite the state's abundant resources.

The statement described Malagi—a former governorship aspirant in 2023, media entrepreneur, and federal minister—as the ideal candidate, highlighting his calm, strategic, results-oriented leadership style, national experience, and ability to deliver without theatrics or corruption.

It emphasized that the call transcends party lines and urged youths, elders, professionals, farmers, and community leaders to rally behind competence for Niger State's progress, describing the moment as a critical crossroads where delay risks further decline.

Full Press Statement:

Enough Is Enough: A Clarion Call on Mohammed Idris Malagi to Step Forward in 2027.

There comes a moment in the life of a people when patience expires and silence becomes betrayal. Niger State has reached that moment.

Our state stands at a dangerous crossroads rich in land, water, and people, yet poor in outcomes; blessed with opportunity, yet trapped in underperformance. What we suffer today is not a lack of promises, but a surplus of them. Not a lack of travels, agreements, or signatures, but a tragic absence of results.

For three years, Niger State has been subjected to a governance style that prioritizes junketing over delivery leaders hopping from the USA to the UAE, from Russia to China, Brazil to South Africa, Egypt to Singapore. From Lagos State to Dangote multi billion agreements, signing glossy Memoranda of Understanding that never translate into water in our taps, food on our tables, jobs for our youths, or dignity for our people.

Agreements without impact are not achievements. Frequent flights without measurable outcomes are not leadership. Sophisticated paperwork masking systemic corruption is not governance. Niger State does not need a globe-trotting signatory-in-chief. Niger State needs a governor.

Why the Call Is Now Unavoidable:

This is why the call across Niger State is no longer cautious or quiet. It is bold, collective, and unmistakable:

Mohammed Idris Malagi must hear the cry of the masses, the unpaid pensioners, the poor farmers that have not seen fertilizer for their farms, and the teeming unemployed youths to contest for the Governorship of Niger State in 2027.

This is no longer a suggestion. It is a call to duty. The people are tired of leadership that manages decline instead of driving development. Tired of carefully crafted speeches that produce no schools, no hospitals, no security, no water, and no agricultural value chain. Tired of a system that looks sophisticated on paper but is rotten in practice.
Niger State must break free from this cycle.

What Niger State Needs Now Is Calm, Astute, and Results-Driven Leadership.
Mohammed Idris Malagi represents a fundamentally different leadership model one rooted in calm authority, strategic thinking, and execution, not noise, lousiness or theatrics.

His leadership style is not impulsive or erratic. It is measured, deliberate, and intelligent. He listens, analyzes, decides, and delivers. He does not confuse activity with productivity or visibility with value. He share responsibility and respect views and dialogues.

At the national level, Malagi has demonstrated a deep understanding of how power, policy, and institutions truly function not in theory, but in reality. He has mastered the ability to articulate vision clearly and earn public confidence without intimidation or propaganda.

He has the discipline to operate under intense pressure while maintaining clarity, composure, and direction. With the capacity to move complex systems from decision to implementation, not endless committees, fraudulent entities and excuses. This is executive leadership, this is governor-level competence. Niger State does not need a power monger who monopolizes authority at the expense of good governance. It needs a leader already tested by complexity.

Niger State cannot afford anymore four years of experimental governance. Another cycle of foreign trips with no domestic impact. Another administration that signs agreements while communities remain abandoned. Another sophisticated corruption network dressed up as reform of “New Niger” an agenda of multiple corruption must not be allowed to continue, to be governed by a system that looks modern but delivers poverty.

A Leadership Moment That Cannot Be Deferred is now.

At crossroads, delay equals decline.
Insecurity deepens while opportunities slip away. Public trust erodes while governance becomes increasingly disconnected from lived realities. Incrementalism is no longer an option.

Niger State see in Malagi as the next governor that will be Prepared, not rehearsing; Decisive, not tentative; Calm, not chaotic; Nationally respected, yet deeply rooted in local realities; Bold enough to reform systems, not merely administer decay.

Mohammed Idris Malagi fits this moment not by coincidence, but by competence.

Beyond Party Lines, For Niger State

This clarion call is not anchored on any political party. It is anchored on capacity, courage, and commitment.

Political parties are vehicles. Leadership is the engine.

On whatever platform the people choose, Mohammed Idris Malagi represents a unifying option one capable of bridging zones, generations, faiths, and political divides. This is not about comfort or convention; it is about survival, progress, and dignity.

To Mohammed Idris Malagi: History Is Knocking

History does not knock endlessly. When it does, it demands a response.

This is not about personal ambition. It is about responsibility to a state at risk of prolonged stagnation. The people are watching. The moment is ripe. The call is clear.

Mohammed Idris Malagi, Niger State calls on you to contest for Governor in 2027.
Step forward. Offer your service. Accept the burden of leadership.

The Movement Starts Now

This is a call to youths and elders, professionals and farmers, traders, artisans, traditional rulers, and religious leaders across Niger State:

Rally around competence, not convenience.
Choose results over rhetoric.
Demand leadership, not excuses.

Let it be said that when Niger State stood at a crossroads, its people chose direction over drift, courage over comfort, and leadership over illusion.

2027 must be the year Niger State takes its future back.
And that future must begin with decisive, calm, and competent leadership.

Kajola Politicians Grumble As Alhaji Lai Sobayo Allegedly Orders Thugs To Brutalize APC Agent, Bamdele Adesanya

By Our Correspondent

Abeokuta, Ogun State — Tension gripped Kajola area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State on Saturday 24th of January following the alleged abduction and brutalisation of a political agent, Mr. Bamidele Adesanya, sparking outrage among politicians and residents.

Bamdele Adesanya was said to be a prime agent representing Kajola Ward, was reportedly abducted by one Miyiwa Ojebiyi and his political thugs, Muyiwa Ojebiyi allegedly acting on the instruction of Alhaji Lai Sobayo, a recent defector from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The incident, which occurred on Monday, triggered unrest in the community as news of the alleged assault spread.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the victim was forcefully taken by suspected hoodlums and subjected to severe physical abuse. The assailants were allegedly led by a supervisor attached to Obafemi-Owode Local Government, further heightening political tensions in the area.

Following the incident, the matter was formally reported to the Nigeria Police Force at the Kemta Divisional Headquarters, Abeokuta. Sources within the police command confirmed that a complaint had been lodged and that investigations were ongoing, though no official statement had been issued as of press time.

Politicians across party lines in Obafemi-Owode Local Government have condemned the alleged attack and are demanding justice, describing the incident as a dangerous escalation of political intolerance.

“This is an act of political violence that must not be swept under the carpet,” a local political leader who spoke on condition of anonymity said. “Our democracy cannot thrive where intimidation, abduction and brutality are used to silence perceived opponents.”

Residents of Kajola expressed fear that the situation could degenerate further if urgent steps are not taken by security agencies. Some community leaders called for calm while urging the police and the state government to act swiftly to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

As investigations continue, stakeholders are calling on the Ogun State Government and security agencies to ensure that all those involved, regardless of political affiliation or status, are brought to justice.

The unfolding situation adds to growing concerns over political violence ahead of future electoral activities in the state.

Our efforts to reach Alhaji Lai Sobayo was abortive as his telephone number was switched off.

A New Voice for Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi-Owode Federal Constituency: Why Engr. Taiwo Oludotun FNSE Deserves a Chance?

Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

As conversations about effective representation continue across Ogun State, one name increasingly resonates in discussions about the future of the Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode, and Odeda Federal Constituency: Engr. Taiwo Oludotun FNSE, the Honourable Commissioner for Forestry.

Engr. Oludotun’s public life reflects a consistent pattern of service, commitment, and close engagement with the people. Long before stepping into partisan politics, he was known for his dedication to professional excellence and community-oriented service. That same ethos has continued to define his role in government, where he has earned a reputation as a hands-on administrator and a responsive public servant.

As Commissioner for Forestry in Ogun State, Engr. Oludotun has demonstrated the importance of combining policy knowledge with grassroots understanding. His work has gone beyond office desks and official memos; it has involved real engagement with communities, stakeholders, and everyday citizens whose livelihoods and environments are directly affected by public policy. This practical approach has helped him build trust and maintain strong connections across the constituency.

Supporters point to his deep familiarity with Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode, and Odeda as one of his strongest assets. Having spent years working closely with people across these areas, he understands their challenges, aspirations, and expectations from government. From community development initiatives to consistent presence at local engagements, his record reflects a politician who listens and responds rather than one who governs from a distance.

Equally important is his professional background as an engineer and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE). This training has shaped his methodical approach to problem-solving and planning—qualities many believe are essential for effective representation at the federal level. In a time when constituents are increasingly demanding competence alongside compassion, his blend of technical expertise and human connection stands out.

Many observers argue that the constituency has reached a moment where fresh perspectives and renewed energy are needed. Repeating familiar political patterns, they say, has not always delivered the progress people desire. In this context, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun is seen as a credible alternative—someone whose record suggests readiness for greater responsibility and whose vision aligns with the needs of the people.

As discussions about representation continue, his supporters maintain that giving Engr. Oludotun the opportunity to serve at the National Assembly would be a step toward responsive, people-centered leadership. For them, his story is one of steady service, proven capacity, and a genuine understanding of the constituency he seeks to represent.

In the evolving political landscape of Ogun State, Engr. Taiwo Oludotun FNSE represents a call for thoughtful change—rooted in experience, guided by service, and focused on the collective progress of Abeokuta North, Obafemi-Owode, and Odeda.

Taiwo Oludotun to represent Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi-Owode Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives has been described by his supporters as sacrosanct and non-negotiable.

Political observers note that the declaration comes against the backdrop of growing dissatisfaction over perceived political betrayal within the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the three local governments. In response, Engr. Oludotun, the current Commissioner of Forestry in Ogun State, is reportedly warming up for the 2027 election with increasing grassroots backing.

Engr. Oludotun’s leadership credentials and political influence have continued to attract commendation from party faithful and constituents alike. Widely known for his people-centred approach, he has steadily built a strong bond with residents of Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi-Owode through consistent philanthropy and community engagement. His supporters describe him as a leader who gives selflessly and derives joy from uplifting others, a quality that has endeared him to many at the grassroots.

Within the APC, Oludotun is regarded as a politician of uncommon sagacity, whose strategic thinking and inclusive leadership style set him apart from other potential aspirants. Over the years, he has reportedly bridged gaps between the electorate and political leadership, fostering unity and trust in a political climate often marked by division.

Sources within the party confirm that Engr. Oludotun will contest the House of Representatives seat under the APC platform in 2027, with his supporters calling on the people of the federal constituency to rally behind him to ensure the realization of his ambition. They argue that his experience in governance and understanding of grassroots needs place him in a strong position to deliver effective representation.

Supporters further express confidence that, if elected, Oludotun would leverage his experience and connections to attract meaningful federal projects to the constituency, thereby ensuring that residents enjoy tangible dividends of democracy throughout his tenure.

Engr. Oludotun’s service under Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, has also been cited as evidence of his competence and capacity for higher responsibility. His performance across two ministerial assignments is described by allies as a clear demonstration of his administrative skill, dedication and results-oriented leadership.

As the countdown to 2027 continues, political watchers believe that Engr. Taiwo Oludotun’s growing popularity and perceived credibility could significantly reshape the political landscape of Abeokuta North, Odeda and Obafemi-Owode Federal Constituency.

PBAT Force Disowns Nairaland Report, Denies Role in Lagos Council Appointment Controversy

The PBAT Force, a prominent support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has strongly disclaimed and distanced itself from a controversial online publication alleging interference in the Lagos State local council appointments process.

In a formal rejoinder issued on Tuesday, the group rejected in totality a report titled “Revealed: How Ojelabi Held Lagos Council Appointments Process to Ransom,” which circulated on Nairaland Online Blog and other platforms. The PBAT Force described the publication as misleading, speculative, and founded on anonymous sources with no connection to the organisation.

According to the statement signed by its Director of Public Relations, Hon. Dr. Tola Adebiyi, the PBAT Force made it clear that it neither authored, sponsored, endorsed, nor briefed any individual or media organisation to publish the said report.

“The PBAT Force categorically states that it is not aware of, not affiliated with, and not connected to the faceless individuals or anonymous sources behind the publication,” the statement read.

Emphasising its organisational values, the group described itself as a structured, disciplined, and responsible support body operating strictly within the constitution and ideals of the APC, and in full alignment with the leadership philosophy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The organisation further stressed that it does not engage in anonymous publications, blackmail journalism, sensational reporting, or the spread of unverified allegations against party leaders or institutions.

While acknowledging that discussions around the reimbursement of party aspirants have taken place within recognised APC structures, the PBAT Force maintained that it has consistently relied on lawful, consultative, and internal party mechanisms to express its views.

“At no time has the PBAT Force threatened to resist or obstruct the constitution of local council cabinets,” the statement clarified, describing such portrayals as false, mischievous, and deliberately designed to cast the group in a confrontational light.

The group warned that attempts to associate it with destabilisation or internal sabotage could sow unnecessary discord within the party and mislead the public.

In a strong rebuke of the publication, the PBAT Force condemned what it termed the reckless use of anonymous sources by Nairaland Online Blog and urged media platforms to adhere to professional standards of verification, factual accuracy, and responsible editorial judgment.

The organisation also formally called on the blog to refrain from publishing reports capable of damaging the reputation, cohesion, and integrity of the APC without proper confirmation from authorised representatives.

Concluding the statement, the PBAT Force urged party members, the general public, and the media to disregard the publication as it relates to the group and to always seek clarification before attributing actions or statements to any organisation.

The group reaffirmed its loyalty to the APC, its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and its commitment to constructive engagement aimed at strengthening party unity and Nigeria’s democratic institutions.

Impeachment: Group Cautions Rivers CJ Against Playing into the Hands of Rivers Lawmakers

The Africa Centre for Democracy and Leadership (ACDL) has issued a strong caution to the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, on the critical need for judicial independence in the face of the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Odu.

The group's intervention comes at a pivotal moment, as the Rivers State House of Assembly, under Speaker Martins Amaewhule, has ramped up its efforts to oust the executive duo.

This follows a series of dramatic shifts, including a recent U-turn by four lawmakers who recommitted to the impeachment push after briefly advocating for dialogue, citing alleged media attacks from the governor's camp as evidence of bad faith.

The Assembly's latest resolution to forward a request for an investigative panel to the Chief Judge marks a formal escalation, confirming that impeachment notices have been served in line with constitutional requirements.

The group warned that the judiciary must safeguard its independence amid the escalating political crisis, which stems from long-standing tensions between the governor and factions in the Assembly.

The Africa Centre for Democracy and Leadership stated that the Chief Judge should exercise utmost caution to avoid being drawn into what it described as partisan maneuvers by the lawmakers.

The group, through its Executive Director, Barrister Nedu Ekwueme, emphasized that the role of the Chief Judge in appointing a seven-member panel of unquestionable integrity must remain free from external influence or pressure.

Barrister Nedu Ekwueme said: "The judiciary must remain the last bastion of hope for justice and fairness in our democracy."

He continued: "We caution Justice Chibuzor-Amadi against allowing himself to be manipulated by lawmakers whose actions appear driven by vendetta rather than constitutional duty."

Barrister Ekwueme further stated: "This impeachment process has all the hallmarks of a political witch-hunt. The Chief Judge must not play into the hands of these lawmakers, as doing so would erode public trust in the judiciary and set a precedent for future abuses of power."

The Africa Centre for Democracy and Leadership pointed out that historical precedents in Nigeria demonstrate the dangers of hasty or improperly constituted panels, citing cases where courts later intervened to correct procedural flaws despite constitutional provisions.

Barrister Nedu Ekwueme noted: "We have seen in the past how hasty judicial panels have fueled crises rather than resolved them, as in the cases of Governors Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo State, Peter Obi of Anambra State, and Joshua Dariye of Plateau State, where impeachments were nullified due to violations of due process."

He added: "Rivers State cannot afford another round of needless turmoil; the Chief Judge should prioritize due process over expediency."

The group stressed the importance of strict adherence to constitutional guidelines, including the requirement for the panel to investigate allegations thoroughly within three months and report back to the people.

Barrister Nedu Ekwueme asserted: "The people of Rivers deserve leaders who focus on development, not distractions. By cautioning the CJ, we aim to prevent a scenario where the judiciary becomes a pawn in this high-stakes game, ultimately harming the state's progress."

The Africa Centre for Democracy and Leadership called on the Nigerian Bar Association, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to closely monitor the process and uphold judicial independence.

Geregu Power Plc: Why Yari's board appointment does not excite us -Northern group

As reactions continue to trill the appointment of Senator Abdulaziz Yari as the new Chairman of the Board, Geregu Power Plc; a northern group has dropped a bombshell while lending its voice to the public debate.

The group, 'Mai Kare Talakawa' (MKT), majorly based in Sokoto, north western state, said it would never stand for the interest of the people, especially the downtrodden, instead of joining the bandwagon of praise singers of those who unite to enrich themselves.

In a statement signed on Monday by the Spokesperson, Mallam Yusuf Mohammed, the group queried the way and manner Senator Yari became stupendously rich, amassing enormous wealth for himself, since presiding over the common wealth of Zamfara, a leading poorest state in north west.

According to the group, Senator Yari, aside been a Commissioner, two term Governor and currently, a Senator from Zamfara State, has no known strong business base, apart from the MA'AM Energy and the mining activities he has severally being linked to; saying, "such undue accumulation of wealth at the expense of the masses contradicts Islamic teachings, and any genuine Muslim must stand to uphold this tenent".

"For just being a public officer from a poor state like Zamfara State, he was able to amass so much wealth for that kind of acquisition. But left our youth with no jobs for 8 years as Governor, thereby exposing the citizens of Zamfara State to poverty and youth restlessness which is the insecurity in Zamfara State today", the group said.

Aside the issue of conflict of interest in oversight functions as a serving Senator, Mohammed described the acquisition of controlling shares in Geregu as "outlandish", adding that, "Senator Yari using over one trillion naira (N1tr) to buy Geregu Power shares has no direct benefit for the common people on the street of Zamfara, but will further impoverish the people and aggravate insecurity, due to ongoing activities of illegal miners".

"When we thought his ongoing trials at the EFCC, ICPC and DSS would help the people recover the funds and assets linked to him as Governor, and help stop the activities of illegal miners, which many reports said largely gave rise to banditry; we read in the news again that, the man who should be refunding some funds and forfeiting assets, for onward recovery and injection into Zamfara State purse, was buying a power plant with over one trillion naira. This is ridiculous, outlandish and preposterous.

"Zamfara State is rated as the 3rd poorest state in Nigeria. A report in 2024 listed Zamfara with 82.70% multidimensional poverty, making it the third most multidimensionally poor state after Sokoto and Jigawa. This was a man who was just a Commissioner and then became a Governor, but now suddenly richer than the State, while the people languish in poverty and struggle with high rate insecurity. Why will Allah be happy with such a soul?

"Every mankind has a date with Allah and His judgement is more truthful than human judgement. Allah's verdicts supercedes court of law, or law enforcement agencies, the prayers of Zamfara people and the neighboring states which equally suffer same fate with Zamfara shall be heard by the Almighty Allah", the statement added.

It would be recalled that, Geregu Power Plc, located in Ajaokuta, Kogi State, appointed Senator Yari as chairman of its board of directors, following the resignation of the business billionaire, Femi Otedola, penultimate Monday, as announced on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX).

The acquisition has since elicited public criticism, owing to the status of the new Chairman of board and controversies surrounding his tenure as Governor of Zamfara State and his constant dates with Nigeria security and law enforcement agencies, relating to "corruption", "illegal mining business" and "insecurity" in the state.

PoliticsOngoing Judiciary Strike And Death Of Justice In Ondo State by AmeboFeeds(op):
Ongoing judiciary strike and death of justice in Ondo State

By Jamiu Bamidele

The sunshine state is presently in constitutional freefall. In the "Sunshine State," the light of the law has been extinguished.

As of January 2026, the total

paralysis of the Ondo State Judiciary —precipitated by the indefinite strike of the Coalition of Magistrates, Presidents of Grade 'A' Customary Courts, and JUSUN — is no longer a mere labour

dispute.

It is an act of institutional vandalism by the Executive branch. By starving the third arm

of government of its constitutionally mandated financial autonomy, the state government has effectively declared war on its own citizens.

The perpetrators of this "war" are an unholy trinity: 1. The emperor - Lucky Aiyedatiwa – the Chief Security Officer of the

state whose lavish spending on personal interests and indifference to the suffering of the people is reminiscent of Queen Marie Antoinette’s excesses and lack of empathy.

2. The Attorney General – Kayode Ajulo SAN, - The General executing his principal’s

campaign of strangling the judicial arm of the state. He brings to bear his formidable

skills at distorting information, placating stakeholders with falsehoods and

prevaricating, when demands are discussed.

3. Mrs. Omowumi Isaac -Commissioner for Finance: the tip of the Spear. Used by the

Executive to dodge responsibilities, rescind approvals, delay files, alter established

disbursement protocols and creating an illusion of penury by the executive.

This judicial capture has the human cost. Their actions have directly led to the shuttering of courtrooms across all 18 Local Government Areas, which is a violent assault on the fundamental rights of the people of Ondo bringing to fore the following:

There is the Gulag Effect: Hundreds of citizens now languish in overcrowded police cells and correctional facilities in Akure and beyond, denied the right to arraignment or bail. This is not "due process"; it is state-sanctioned incarceration where the innocent are buried alive in a system that has ceased to breathe.

Vulnerability of the Oppressed: Survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV)

and victims of domestic abuse are left defenceless.

Without the shield of a sitting

magistrate to issue protection orders, the state has effectively abandoned its most vulnerable to their abusers.

Also, it portends economic sabotage and financial ruin.

The Aiyedatiwa-led administration's refusal to honour the judiciary's financial independence is a direct strike at the heart of the state’s economy.

- Commercial Paralysis: Contractual enforcement has vanished. Land and customary law conflicts, Real estate transactions, probate matters, and debt recoveries are frozen, creating a climate of high-risk uncertainty that repels investment and invite chaoImpoverishing the Bar: Thousands of legal practitioners, who depend on active litigation to feed their families, have seen their livelihoods evaporate overnight.

This is a manufactured poverty, forced upon the keepers of the law by executive intransigence.

There is also the hypocrisy of power. Some aggrieved judicial staff have rightfully labelled the current leadership as "ungrateful beneficiaries of the judiciary".

While the Executive enjoys the fruits of judicial precedents that secured their own political survival, they now preside over the systematic humiliation of that same institution, reducing magistrates to commuting via commercial motorcycles (okada) or in public transportation alongside the very populace they are mandated to adjudicate, a reality that diminishes their professional esteem and eviscerates the indispensable sanctity of their judicial

roles.

The road to anarchy; a state without a functional court is not a democracy; it is a lawless land where might makes right.

The Executive boot on the neck of the Ondo State judiciary is a clear and present danger to the social contract. Every day the court gates remain padlocked is another day the rule of law is replaced by the rule of the mob.

The Aiyedatiwa led Ondo State government must immediately implement full financial

autonomy — not as a concession, but as a non-negotiable constitutional duty — before the last vestiges of public trust are permanently incinerated. The court is not a political bargaining chip; it is a prerequisite for the survival of Ondo State.

Whom the gods want to destroy, they first make mad. If one is thrusted to a lofty heights, he should realise it is not by his power or might, he must not play God.

The governor's alleged squandering of state resources on unachievable personal ambition of a third term, and on his immediate political class to the neglect of several established government institutions is nothing short of crime against humanity and God.

PoliticsOndo Judiciary Officers Lambast Governor Aiyedatiwa, Finance, Women Affairs Comm by AmeboFeeds(op): 4:54pm On Jan 12
Ondo Judiciary Officers Lambast Governor Aiyedatiwa, Finance, Women Affairs Commissioners Over Abuses, Poor Welfare

Judicial officers in Ondo State have intensified their industrial action, accusing the state Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, of undermining Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s directives on welfare and financial support for the judiciary.

The escalation comes amid a crippling strike by magistrates, presidents of Grade ‘A’ customary courts and legal research officers that has paralysed judicial activities across the state since January 5.

Court complexes remain shut with gates locked statewide as members of the judiciary insist their demands for financial autonomy and improved welfare conditions have been ignored by the state government.

Criticism has now focused on the Finance Commissioner, whom judicial officers accuse of blocking welfare-related expenditures despite approvals from Governor Aiyedatiwa.

According to a senior judicial source: “Most approvals by the governor are turned down by the commissioner for finance. She refused to release the money approved for the purchase of cars for magistrates since December 2024.”

The source added that even statutory entitlements have been delayed, saying: “Also, judges annual vacation allowance for 2025 was not paid until the very last week of the vacation.”

In a particularly strong rebuke, the officers questioned the leadership dynamics within the state government: “In Ondo State, the governor appears to be at the mercy of the Commissioner for finance. We don't really know who is the boss. Same way also that the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Mrs Seun Osamaye, has become a lord over her colleagues amid alleged amorous affairs with the governor. She has her way and controls the state government at will, including harassing a magistrate despite a court order to have her arrested.”

A Magistrate Court in Akure, the Ondo State capital, had ordered the arrest of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs. Seun Osamaye, over an alleged assault on a Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Temitope Alphonso.

According to the charge, the alleged assault occurred at the premises of the Ministry of Women Affairs while Chief Magistrate Alphonso was on an official engagement with the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, in the presence of ministry staff.

In an affidavit attached to the charge, Magistrate Alphonso stated that the incident followed a judgment she had earlier delivered which was unfavourable to the commissioner. The affidavit alleged that the commissioner responded by verbally abusing and physically assaulting the magistrate.

Meanwhile, there is growing frustration among judicial staff who maintain that the prolonged non-release of funds for welfare and operational needs has worsened already poor conditions in many court facilities.

The strike, which was declared indefinitely by the Coalition of Magistrates, Presidents of Grade ‘A’ Customary Courts and Legal Research Officers, emerged from longstanding grievances over the non-implementation of judicial financial autonomy and deteriorating welfare provisions.

Despite constitutional provisions that guarantee financial autonomy for the judiciary, workers argue that the state government has failed to operationalise these rights, leading to repeated confrontations with the Ministry of Finance over budgetary control and release of funds.

The paralysis of court operations has drawn concern from legal practitioners and civil society, who warn that continued shutdown of judicial services could undermine access to justice and erode public confidence in the rule of law.

SaharaReporters had reported that the Ondo State’s justice system ground to a near-total halt amid accusations that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa deliberately strangled the judiciary through severe budget cuts, partial financial autonomy and prolonged neglect of judicial welfare.

At the centre of the crisis is a drastic reduction in the judiciary’s proposed budget, from ₦17 billion in 2025 to ₦9.5 billion for 2026, an almost 45 per cent cut that judicial officers say will cripple court operations and worsen already dire working conditions.

Some of the judiciary workers had told SaharaReporters on Saturday that another outrage is the governor’s decision to grant “80 per cent autonomy” limited only to recurrent expenditure, excluding capital projects.

They had warned that the implication of this arrangement is grim: "with the reduced envelope and partial autonomy, staff salaries could be slashed by as much as 20 per cent in 2026, while infrastructure decay remains unaddressed."

“This is not autonomy; it is a slow suffocation of the judiciary,” a senior judicial officer had lamented.

“You cannot strip the courts of capital funding, reduce their budget, and still claim to respect judicial independence.”

Across Ondo State, court buildings are reportedly in a deplorable state. Many courtrooms leak badly during rainfall, forcing judges to suspend sittings as floors become flooded.

Legal practitioners and litigants describe scenes where files are hurriedly packed away as rainwater pours into courtrooms, turning halls of justice into “swimming pools.”

Despite repeated appeals, little has been done to rehabilitate these facilities.
Magistrates and Presidents of Grade ‘A’ Customary Courts are said to commute to work on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as okada, due to the absence of official vehicles.

In some instances, judicial officers reportedly share rides with litigants and even criminal suspects whose cases they are assigned to hear—an arrangement widely viewed as both unsafe and degrading.

High Court judges, meanwhile, are said to be using official vehicles that are more than six years old and increasingly unreliable. Requests for replacement or repair, according to judicial sources, have gone unanswered since 2024.

Further deepening the crisis is the alleged refusal of the Commissioner for Finance to release ₦400 million approved by the governor since 2024 for judicial needs.
Sources within the judiciary claim the funds remain unpaid, with the governor unable — or unwilling — to compel compliance from his own appointee.

“The commissioner is defying the approval, and the governor appears helpless,” a source said. “It raises serious questions about leadership and control.”

The unfolding welfare and funding crisis has triggered an indefinite strike by magistrates, Presidents of Grade ‘A’ Customary Courts, Legal Research Officers and members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).

A recent meeting between Governor Aiyedatiwa and judicial unions ended in deadlock, as workers unanimously rejected what they described as half-measures and empty promises.

According to participants, the governor failed to commit to full financial autonomy as guaranteed by the Constitution.

“At the end of the meeting, our position was plain: no financial autonomy, no work,” a judicial source said.

Since Monday, judicial workers have physically locked judges out of court premises in Akure, sealing the Judiciary Headquarters and halting all court activities statewide.

Official vehicles belonging to judges were seen parked outside locked gates, a stark symbol of the paralysis of justice under the current administration.

By Tuesday, JUSUN formally joined the strike, completely crippling the justice system and leaving litigants stranded, detainees languishing in custody, and legal processes suspended indefinitely.

What has further angered striking workers is what they describe as Governor Aiyedatiwa’s “hypocrisy and ingratitude.”

Judicial sources allege that the governor personally benefitted from favourable judicial processes in the past, yet now presides over what they call the systematic humiliation and impoverishment of the same institution.

“The governor wants obedience without justice,” a judicial officer said. “But the judiciary cannot continue to beg for survival while politicians live in excess.”

Multiple accounts paint a bleak picture of life for judicial officers in Ondo State.

Magistrates reportedly appear in court wearing worn-out shoes, faded suits and patched clothing. Some struggle to afford regular meals, while others rely on public transport daily despite the sensitive nature of their duties.

Observers say the situation mirrors the recent crisis in neighbouring Kogi State, where judiciary workers embarked on a similar strike in December 2025 over welfare neglect—an indication, they argue, of a wider pattern of state-level disregard for judicial independence.

With courts shut, staff unions united, and public confidence in justice delivery eroding, pressure is mounting on Governor Aiyedatiwa to reverse course.

Legal analysts warn that continued paralysis of the judiciary poses grave risks to the rule of law, public safety and democratic governance in Ondo State.

BusinessInside The Billion-naira Race To Redefine Nigeria’s Financial Future by AmeboFeeds(op): 2:14pm On Jan 12
Inside the Billion-Naira Race to Redefine Nigeria’s Financial Future

As the March 31, recapitalisation deadline looms over Broad Street, the Nigerian banking sector is undergoing a quiet but profound revolution. While many commercial tier-2 banks are still navigating the concerns of mergers and acquisitions should they fail to raise the requisite capital, a leading batch of non-interest banks have already crossed the finish line.

For the Non-Interest Banking (NIB) sector, 2026 presents an opportunity for scale and tangible market penetration. These five institutions have transformed from alternative options into a consolidated, high-capital force. Here is an inside look at the players winning the billion-naira race and redefining the Nigerian streets.

The Alternative Bank (AltBank)
The Capital Race: AltBank was amongst the early movers, securing its position by May 2025. Following a massive ₦75 billion private placement by its parent company, the bank received a decisive capital injection that propelled it past the threshold for non-interest banks with national authorisation, nearly a year ahead of schedule.

The Edge: Its ‘phygital’ strategy, blending digital-native ‘Altboxes’ with lifestyle-centric ‘Altplaces’, has redefined the banking experience. With a physical network now surpassing 150 points, it is effectively the default ‘national’ non-interest bank.

The Impact: Its ‘Mata Zalla’ initiative stands as a masterclass in social impact. By training hundreds of women as electric tricycle drivers and mechanics, AltBank created a new economic class building on the Transportation pillar of its now famed H.E.A.R.T strategy. These custom-engineered vehicles address specific safety concerns for women and children while eliminating carbon emissions, proving that AltBank’s capital is being deployed to solve real-world security and economic issues. The bank has also started off an agricultural project in Plateau with the aim of putting an end to the herdsmen conflict plaguing the nation.

Jaiz Bank Plc
The Capital Race: As the industry’s progenitor, Jaiz Bank relies on a decade of trust. By August 2025, Jaiz confirmed its compliance with the CBN’s revised requirements after listing ₦10.04 billion from a successful private placement.

The Edge: It remains the first African partner admitted as a Primary Dealer of the International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM).
The Footprint: With over 45 branches, Jaiz remains the most ubiquitous ethical banking brand in the North, now aggressively densifying its presence in the South.

TAJBank
The Capital Race: TAJBank has transitioned from a regional challenger to a national contender with frightening speed. Last week, it officially confirmed it had surpassed the ₦20 billion requirement, silencing skeptics.

The Edge: The first corporate to list a Sukuk bond on the NGX, TAJBank has a knack for mainstreaming ethical instruments.

The Impact: Its ‘CashWaqf’ initiative has institutionalised charity-based financing, lifting thousands out of poverty through interest-free micro-loans.

Lotus Bank
The Capital Race: Lotus Bank, like its contemporaries in the segment, has positioned itself as a bank with a conscience, appealing to a younger, value-driven demographic. It secured its ₦20 billion capital base as early as July 2025.

The Edge: A focus on digital onboarding and AI-driven ethical investment apps has made it a favorite for the tech-savvy investor.

The Footprint: Its expansion has been strategic, focusing on high-traffic economic hubs in Lagos and other peri-urban areas through a robust digital-first infrastructure.

Summit Bank
The Capital Race: Licensed in February 2025, Summit Bank entered the race compliant. Free from legacy non-performing loans, it offers a clean, agile slate for 2026.

The Edge: Headquartered in Jahi, Abuja, it positions itself as a boutique, service-focused institution under the "Banking Beyond Numbers" banner.

The Future: While its network is still embryonic, its focus on transparency and moral accountability is already attracting customers weary of traditional banking's hidden charges.

A Sector on the Move
As the 2026 recapitalisation deadline approaches, the successful fortification of the non-interest banks signals a definitive shift in Nigeria’s financial hierarchy. Led by the early compliance of The Alternative Bank and capped by TAJBank’s recent milestone, this collective readiness proves that non-interest banking is no longer a niche alternative but a cornerstone of national economic stability. Moving forward, the focus for these five institutions shifts from regulatory survival to market-shaping impact, as they leverage their robust capital bases to drive infrastructure through innovative investment models and deepen financial inclusion across the federation.

Ajura Residents Petition Police Over Alleged Vandalism, Theft and Intimidation by Monarch

By Adejumo Micheal

Residents of Ajura Kingdom in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State have petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, over allegations of conspiracy, stealing and vandalisation of government property, as well as intimidation of community members.

In a petition dated and addressed to the Commissioner of Police at the Eleweran headquarters in Abeokuta, the group, which described itself as “law-abiding citizens and residents of Ajura Kingdom,” accused the Olu of Ajura Kingdom, Oba Taiwo Kazeem, and some of his alleged loyalists of wilfully vandalising facilities belonging to the Ogun State Water Corporation within the Ajura community.

According to the petitioners, the damaged facilities were the community’s primary source of potable water. They alleged that the equipment was dismantled and sold, with proceeds allegedly converted for personal use. The petition claims that the total value of the vandalised facilities runs into about ₦100 million.

The residents further alleged that the monarch, with the support of a loyalist group, frequently invades the community with weapons such as guns and cutlasses, creating fear among residents and commuters. They claimed that these alleged actions have led to intimidation, disruption of daily life, and a breakdown of peace in the area, as many residents reportedly flee for safety during such incidents.

The petitioners stated that the matter had earlier been reported at the Obafemi Owode Divisional Police Headquarters. However, they alleged that due to the influence of the traditional ruler, a thorough investigation had not been carried out, thereby denying the community justice.

Describing the situation as a potential trigger for a wider community crisis if left unresolved, the residents appealed to the Commissioner of Police to intervene decisively. They specifically requested that the case be withdrawn from the Owode Police Station and transferred to the Ogun State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ensure what they described as an impartial and comprehensive investigation.

They commended the Ogun State Police Command for its efforts in protecting lives and property across the state and expressed hope that prompt intervention would restore peace and public confidence in law enforcement within Ajura Kingdom.

As of the time of filing this report, efforts to obtain a response from the palace of the Olu of Ajura Kingdom regarding the allegations were unsuccessful. Police authorities had also not issued an official statement on the petition.

Residents and observers say the handling of the petition will be closely watched, given its implications for community safety, rule of law and the protection of public assets in Ogun State.

Lisabi Elite Club Installs Abiodun’s Aide, Farouk Akintunde, as 25th President, Raises N9.3m for Club Bus

The Lisabi Elite Club, Abeokuta, Ogun State, has inaugurated the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Environment, Hon. Farouq Adeniyi Akintunde, as its 25th President, reaffirming the club’s long-standing commitment to service, unity and humanity.

Akintunde took over the leadership of the prestigious club from the immediate past President, Mr. Charles Lanipekun, during a well-attended inauguration ceremony held at the club’s house in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta. He was sworn in alongside other newly elected executive members.

The event attracted members of the club, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, political associates, friends and family members, who gathered to witness what many described as a smooth and historic transition.

In his acceptance speech, Akintunde expressed profound gratitude to members of the club for the confidence reposed in him, describing his emergence as President as a call to service. He pledged to lead with humility, transparency and dedication, while working with his team to deliver an enduring legacy that would positively impact all members.

“I am deeply honoured to stand before you today as your number one servant,” Akintunde said. “I am eternally grateful to God Almighty for sparing our lives to witness this occasion. This transition has been smooth because of the overwhelming support of members in all ramifications.”

The new President assured members that his administration would consolidate on existing programmes and activities, while positioning the Lisabi Elite Club to compete favourably with first-class social clubs in Abeokuta and beyond.

“Our founding fathers established this club on mutual understanding and determination. As members of this great club, we must look inward and decide what our individual membership will add to its growth and development,” he noted.

Akintunde also announced the fulfillment of one of his major campaign promises — the total upgrade of one of the club’s chalets. According to him, the renovated chalet is intended to serve as a model for future interventions by donors.

He disclosed that the facility now boasts a new 6×7 bed with mattress, air conditioner, plasma television, refrigerator, modern water closet and fresh painting.

On infrastructure development, the President made a passionate appeal for support towards the acquisition of a club bus, lamenting that Lisabi Elite Club remains the only major club in Abeokuta without one.

To demonstrate leadership by example, Akintunde announced the establishment of a ₦30 million endowment fund for the bus project and declared an initial donation of ₦5 million from himself and his family. He further revealed that a political ally, Mr. Joshua Sowunmi, had donated ₦1 million to the fund.

Newsangle Online gathered that families and friends of the new President also raised a total of ₦9.3 million during the inauguration as part of the appeal fund for the long-awaited club bus.

To ensure transparency and accountability, Akintunde constituted a standing finance committee chaired by Mr. Abiodun Folorunso, a banker and financial expert, with Mr. Mukandas Adeshina and Mr. Toheeb Somorin as members.

The President also unveiled members of his executive committee, charging them to see their appointments as an opportunity to serve diligently. The officers include Aare Shina Yekini (Secretary), Mr. Alapoti Saheed (Assistant Secretary), Mr. Jimi Adegbesan (Treasurer), Mr. Samson Olutoki (Financial Secretary), Mr. Moses Lijadu (Social Secretary), Deacon Taiwo Odekunle (Chief Whip), Mr. Emmanuel Olutunde (Public Relations Officer), Barrister Femi Adekunle (Legal Adviser), Alhaji Sunkanmi Olowolagba (Internal Auditor), Mr. Yinka Oyelumade (Sports Secretary), Alhaji Adebakin Aramide (Chief House Management Chairman) and Engr. Kayode Adeniji (Project Committee Chairman).

He also announced the appointment of Mr. Kunle Oyesiku as Chairman of the Debt Recovery Committee, while retaining the existing Education Committee.

Akintunde concluded by appreciating his predecessor, Mr. Charles Lanipekun, for his leadership and support, describing him as a source of wisdom and continuity for the new administration. He prayed for a peaceful, productive and prosperous year for all members as the club enters a new phase under his leadership.

HENRY UGONNA ORABUCHI FIRES BACK AT ELVIS EMECHETA: "YOU ARE A CHEAT AND SERIAL FRAUDSTER”

Rejoinder / Press Statement

The attention of Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi has been drawn to a reckless, defamatory and misleading publication credited to Mr. Elvis Emecheta, in which he attempted, unsuccessfully, to divert public attention from the serious legal, regulatory and criminal issues surrounding the disputed Lekki waterfront property currently under court seal.

Mr. Orabuchi categorically states that Mr. Emecheta’s publication is not only false and malicious but also a desperate attempt to intimidate the media, mislead the public and cover up facts already established by documents, regulatory actions and subsisting court processes.

On Allegations of “Land Grabbing” and Wealth
Mr. Orabuchi is a legitimate businessman whose source of funds for the acquisition of the 3,000 square metres reclaimed waterfront land is well documented, lawful and fully traceable. The transaction in question was entered into in good faith, backed by a valid contract of sale, and the entire purchase price including an additional ₦100 million demanded by Mr. Emecheta was fully paid.

It is therefore absurd for Mr. Emecheta, who collected billions of naira, to turn around and label the purchaser a “land grabber” simply because the buyer insisted on performance of contractual obligations and compliance with the law.

On Reclamation and Multiple Assignments
Mr. Emecheta has publicly claimed that the reclamation process is still ongoing. Yet, in clear contradiction, he proceeded to assign portions of the same reclaimed waterfront land to multiple business entities and a church, with documents, while refusing and failing to release or perfect title documents in favour of Mr. Orabuchi, the lawful purchaser of 3,000 square metres.

This singular act alone raises grave questions:
1. How can land allegedly “still under reclamation” be assigned to third parties?
2. Why was Mr. Orabuchi deliberately excluded after full payment?
3. Why were documents selectively issued to others?

These contradictions speak louder than Mr. Emecheta’s denials and strongly reinforce the existence of serious defects and disputes on the property, contrary to his claims of innocence.

On Regulatory Infractions:
Contrary to Mr. Emecheta’s narrative, Lagos State regulatory authorities confirmed that several structures on the property were illegal, lacking valid approvals and proper documentation. This led to the lawful intervention and removal actions by the Lagos State Building Control Authority (LASBCA).
These regulatory actions were not instigated by Mr. Orabuchi but were the result of government assessments, further exposing the misrepresentations made by Mr. Emecheta at the point of sale.

On Police Petitions and Jurisdiction:
It is on record that Mr. Orabuchi lawfully petitioned the Inspector-General of Police over alleged obtaining of money by false pretence, criminal breach of trust and related offences. The IGP, after review, directed investigation by Zone 2 Police Command, Lagos.
Mr. Emecheta, rather than submit himself to this investigation, ran to Abuja to file a parallel petition which the IGP redirected to Zone-2 to further the investigation, in clear violation of police directives on duplication of cases, an act which strongly suggests an attempt to pervert the course of justice.

Ironically, Mr. Emecheta now raises jurisdictional arguments, forgetting that he was the first to approach Abuja, while Mr. Orabuchi only sought the protection of the Federal High Court Abuja after persistent harassment and threats, despite clear IGP directives.

On Media, Freedom of Speech and Intimidation:
Mr. Orabuchi never gagged the media. A practicing journalist lawfully sought his response and he exercised his constitutional right to freedom of expression by stating verifiable facts already before the courts.

It is therefore hypocritical for Mr. Emecheta who was the first to go to the media with insults, name calling and prejudicial statements to now threaten media houses for reporting the other side of the story.

On the Court-Ordered Sealing:
The sealing of the disputed Lekki waterfront property was carried out strictly pursuant to a valid ex parte order of a court of competent jurisdiction, issued to preserve the res and prevent a breach of public peace pending the determination of the matter.

Mr. Emecheta’s own publications, filled with contradictions and emotional outbursts, further confirm that serious legal and ownership issues subsist on the property, reinforcing why the court’s intervention was necessary.

Final Position,
Mr. Henry Ugonna Orabuchi maintains that:
1. He is the lawful purchaser of 3,000 square metres of reclaimed waterfront land.
He fulfilled all financial obligations under the contract.

2. He will not be intimidated by media blackmail or defamatory publications.

3. All documents, agreements, payment records and regulatory reports are before courts of competent jurisdiction.

4. He therefore warns members of the public and prospective investors to exercise extreme caution in any dealings with Mr. Elvis Emecheta, as the disputed Lekki waterfront property remains the subject of ongoing civil and criminal proceedings.

5. The matter is firmly before the courts, and no amount of propaganda can alter the facts, the documents, or the law. wink

PoliticsPro-tinubu Group Lauds Deputy Speaker's PISE Project Over Peaceful Yuletide by AmeboFeeds(op): 6:18am On Jan 04
***Commends Kalu's Support for President

The Renewed Hope Coalition, a pro-President Bola Ahmed Tinubu advocacy group, has hailed the Peace in the South East Project (PISE-P) initiated by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, for contributing to the relatively peaceful Yuletide season experienced in the South East region this year.

In a statement issued in Enugu, the National Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Coalition, Comrade Emmanuel Okoro, described the 2025 Christmas and New Year celebrations in the South East as a marked departure from previous years plagued by insecurity and enforced sit-at-home orders.

"Unlike in the past, when fear and tension dominated the festive period due to unrest, this year's Yuletide has been remarkably calm, allowing families to travel home freely, reunite, and celebrate in peace," Okoro said.

"We attribute this positive development largely to the non-kinetic approach of the Peace in the South East Project (PISE-P), convened by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu."

The group praised PISE-P's focus on reconciliation, community engagement, and development initiatives as key factors in restoring stability and confidence in the region.

Launched in late 2023, the project has continued to promote dialogue and socio-economic programs aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity without reliance on military force alone.

The Renewed Hope Coalition also commended Rt. Hon. Kalu for his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration.

During his recent annual end-of-year town hall meeting in Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State, Kalu highlighted the fruits of the President's bold economic reforms and expressed gratitude for the administration's inclusive policies.

"We salute the Deputy Speaker for his steadfast loyalty to the Renewed Hope Agenda," Okoro added.

"His legislative achievements, constituency projects, and peace-building efforts align perfectly with President Tinubu's vision for a united and prosperous Nigeria.

#Kalu's recent announcement of a ₦1 billion donation to support 2,000 MSME start-ups in Abia State, alongside palliatives and infrastructure developments, further demonstrates his commitment to uplifting the people."

The group called on all stakeholders in the South East to sustain the momentum of peace and rally behind initiatives like PISE-P, while urging continued support for President Tinubu's transformative leadership.

"As we enter 2026, the Renewed Hope Coalition remains confident that with leaders like Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu championing peace and progress, the South East will fully reclaim its position as the economic powerhouse of Nigeria," the statement concluded.

Opposition Lawmakers in Reps Set Up Special Committee to Probe Tax Reforms Act Scandal*

The leadership of the Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has constituted a seven-man fact-finding committee to independently investigate allegations of unlawful alterations to Nigeria's newly enacted tax reform laws by elements within the executive arm of government.

In a statement issued on Friday and jointly signed by Minority Leader Rep. O.K. Chinda, Minority Whip Rt. Hon. Ali Isa J.C., PhD, Deputy Minority Leader Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki, and Deputy Minority Whip Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, the caucus described the move as expedient amid the lingering controversy over claims that the versions of the tax laws gazetted and set for implementation differ materially from those passed by the National Assembly and assented to by President Bola Tinubu.

The opposition lawmakers expressed concern over the federal government's determination to commence implementation of the laws from January 1, 2026, despite widespread demands for suspension pending resolution of the discrepancies.

They stressed that, as the opposition bloc, they owe Nigerians an independent and unbiased probe to establish the facts and protect citizens—especially the poor and vulnerable—from the consequences of enforcing an allegedly altered statute.

The four tax reform bills—the Nigeria Tax Act 2025, Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act 2025, and Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Act 2025—were signed into law in June 2025 after months of legislative scrutiny.

While the executive has defended the reforms as critical for streamlining revenue administration and easing the tax burden on low-income earners, critics have accused the process of post-assent tampering, with specific allegations pointing to the insertion of draconian enforcement clauses absent from the legislatively approved texts.

The newly inaugurated committee, chaired by Hon. Afam Ogene, has been given seven days to conclude its assignment and submit findings to the caucus leadership.

Its members include Hon. Gaza Gbefwi Jonathan, Hon. MB Shehu Fagge, Hon. Aliyu Garu, Hon. Stanley Adedeji, Hon. Ibe Okwara, and Hon. Marie Ebikake.

The panel's mandate covers obtaining authenticated copies of the laws as passed by both chambers of the National Assembly and signed by the President, securing the gazetted versions circulated by the executive, conducting a line-by-line comparison to identify any disparities, and recommending appropriate responses should infractions be established.

Acknowledging that members of the House are currently on recess, the caucus leadership urged colleagues to treat the inquiry as a matter of urgent national importance, regretting any inconvenience caused while extending new year greetings.

Sterling HoldCo Directors Double Down with Additional N1.16bn Investment in Stocks

Two directors of Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc, Yemi Odubiyi (Group CEO) and Abubakar Suleiman (Non-Executive Director and CEO of Sterling Bank), collectively acquired 164 million additional share units in a secondary market transaction worth N1.156 billion.

Disclosures published on the Nigerian Exchange showed that both parties each acquired the shares at N7.05 per unit across two tranches on December 24 and December 29, 2025. Seven Degrees North Limited, purchased 82 million shares worth N578.1m on behalf of Odubiyi. Black Rising Ltd. also acquired 82,000,000 shares worth N578.1m for Suleiman.

The Group leadership’s increased investment comes ahead of the regulatory confirmation of the company’s N88.1 billion Public Offer results, a capital raise designed to expand retail banking reach and scale its wealth management subsidiary, SterlingFi.

Odubiyi’s shareholding has climbed quickly over the past year, rising from 376,417,493 units in December 2024 to more than 811 million units by the end of 2025, reflecting a steady increase in his investment in the institution’s long-term outlook. With 52.1 billion units in outstanding share capital, Sterling HoldCo’s Chairman, Adeyemi Adeola, continues to hold the largest stake among board members at 12.256 billion units (23.52%), reinforcing the company’s tightly aligned leadership structure.

Temitayo Adegoke, the Chief Operating Officer of Sterling Bank, also acquired 5.7 million shares worth N39.4 million, while Seven Degrees North Limited made an indirect purchase of 20.8 million units valued at N141.5 million.

Sterling HoldCo’s shares have delivered more than 25% year-to-date returns, opening the year at N5.60, rallying to a peak of N7.80 in August 2025 after strong July (22.81%) and August (11.43%) market momentum, before settling at N7.05 at the end of the final trading day of 2025.

Truth, Trauma, and the Test of Public Discourse: Ogun State Pushes Back Against Healthcare Misinformation

In the aftermath of a tragic road accident that claimed lives and left emotions running high, Ogun State has found itself at the center of an intense public debate over the quality and responsiveness of its healthcare system. While grief and concern are natural reactions in moments of national shock—especially when a prominent figure is involved—political actors and public commentators are now urging restraint, accuracy, and responsibility in how the state’s institutions are portrayed.

Otunba Segun Showunmi, a notable political voice and advocate of alternative governance perspectives, has strongly cautioned against what he describes as emotion-driven narratives that distort verifiable facts. According to him, the suggestion that Ogun State lacks ambulances or functional emergency response capacity is not only misleading but unfair to the professionals working daily within the system.

“Ogun State does have ambulances. This is not conjecture,” Showunmi insists, pointing to his personal encounters with the state’s emergency vehicles being both displayed and actively deployed. He argues that it is deeply problematic to use a single tragic incident—no matter how heartbreaking—as justification to undermine collective sensibility or dismiss years of documented progress.

At the heart of the debate is the integrity of the state’s healthcare leadership. Showunmi speaks with confidence about the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker, whom he describes as a consummate professional with a proven record of diligence and competence. By his account, negligence is inconsistent with both her character and her track record in public service.

Beyond individual leadership, the broader healthcare architecture under Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has also been drawn into the conversation. Supporters of the government note that healthcare remains one of the administration’s most positively reviewed sectors, with functional primary healthcare centers across several wards in the state. These facilities, they argue, are not only operational but steadily improving in capacity and service delivery.

None of this, Showunmi emphasizes, is an attempt to silence criticism. On the contrary, constructive criticism is a cornerstone of democratic accountability. However, he warns that criticism must be anchored in truth rather than amplified by grief, speculation, or sensationalism—particularly in an age where misinformation spreads rapidly and trust in institutions is fragile.

As the state mourns those lost in the accident and offers prayers for the full recovery of “our son, Anthony Joshua,” as Showunmi affectionately puts it, the larger lesson may be about balance: honoring grief while preserving truth, demanding accountability without discarding fairness, and strengthening public discourse through facts rather than fury.

In moments of crisis, the measure of leadership—and citizenship—is not only how swiftly institutions respond, but how responsibly the public conversation is conducted. Ogun State’s healthcare journey, its advocates argue, deserves to be assessed on evidence, not emotion.

Sowunmi, NNPP’s Oginni Signal Grand Coalition Ahead of Ogun 2027

Solanke Ayomideji Taiwo

In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, former governorship aspirant and prominent Ogun State political figure, Otunba Segun Sowunmi, has hosted Olaposi Oginni, the National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the party’s topmost leader in Ogun State. The meeting, widely seen as strategic, has ignited conversations around the formation of a broad-based coalition aimed at reshaping the political landscape of Ogun State.

The engagement between the two leaders underscores growing momentum among opposition and reform-minded actors who believe that the 2027 elections will require more than fragmented ambitions to successfully challenge entrenched political structures in the state.

Speaking after the meeting, Sowunmi emphasized that meaningful political change cannot be achieved through rhetoric alone. According to him, the idea of a “grand coalition” must go beyond public declarations and social media enthusiasm, requiring deliberate planning, patience, and trust built over time.

“It is not enough to desire a coalition,” Sowunmi stated. “It takes serious work, time, and a long-term relationship to build one. I make no silly boast.”

His remarks were interpreted as a call for discipline and sincerity among political actors seeking an alternative political future for Ogun State. Sowunmi, known for his forthright style and emphasis on ideology-driven politics, framed the proposed alliance as “The Alternative”—a platform that prioritizes structure, values, and collective responsibility over personal ambition.

Olaposi Oginni, on his part, represents a critical pillar of the NNPP’s national and state-level leadership. As National Secretary of the party and its leading figure in Ogun State, his presence at the meeting signals NNPP’s openness to collaboration and coalition-building as part of its long-term strategy ahead of 2027.

Political observers note that Ogun State politics has historically been dominated by powerful incumbency structures, making coalition-building a potentially decisive strategy for opposition forces. The Sowunmi–Oginni engagement is therefore being viewed as an early but important step toward forging a united front capable of mounting a credible challenge.

While no formal coalition agreement was announced, both camps appeared aligned on the principle that sustainable political alliances must be rooted in mutual respect, shared vision, and consistent engagement rather than last-minute electoral arrangements.

As preparations for the 2027 elections gradually begin to take shape, the meeting between Segun Sowunmi and Olaposi Oginni may well be remembered as one of the foundational moments in the emergence of a new political alignment in Ogun State—one that seeks to offer voters a clear and organized alternative.

Reps Minority Caucus Demands Suspension of Tax Reforms Amid Allegations of Fraudulent Alterations

The Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives has thrown its weight behind calls to suspend the implementation of the controversial tax reform laws, amid allegations that the gazetted versions were fraudulently altered after passage by the National Assembly and assent by President Bola Tinubu.

In press release issued on Sunday, December 28, 2025, the caucus expressed deep consternation over the ongoing controversy surrounding the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025.

The laws, signed into law in June 2025 and scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2026, have sparked widespread debate following claims by lawmakers that the published versions differ materially from what was debated and approved.

The controversy erupted after Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki raised the issue during a recent plenary session, prompting the House to inaugurate a high-powered committee to investigate the allegations of unlawful alterations, improper gazetting, and circulation of tampered copies.

Rep. O.K. Chinda, the Minority Leader, who signed the release alongside Minority Whip Rt. Hon. Ali Isa J.C, PhD; Deputy Minority Leader Rt. Hon. Aliyu Madaki; and Deputy Minority Whip Rt. Hon. George Ozodinobi, emphasized the gravity of the situation.

“We have noted with great consternation and an overwhelming sense of disappointment the current storm brewing over the Tax Reform laws that were duly passed by the National Assembly and properly signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” the release stated.

"Ordinarily, the controversy will have been dismissed as needless, but the gravity of the cause of the controversy is an issue of great concern to all Nigerians, especially since it borders on the accusations of unlawful alterations to the laws as passed by both Chambers of the National Assembly and subsequently signed by the President.”

The caucus assured Nigerians of its commitment to transparency and justice.

“We are also aware that this issue has been raised by a member of the House of Representatives during one of our recent plenaries, following which the House inaugurated a high-powered committee to investigate the allegations made by the member that the tax laws have been fraudulently altered, gazetted and the altered copy circulated to the public,” it continued.

“As such, we want to assure Nigerians that the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives will stand with the entire House to see that the circumstances surrounding this illegality is exposed and the culprits brought to book in the interest of justice for all Nigerians.”

Highlighting the role of the National Assembly as the custodian of authentic legislative records, the caucus urged the public to disregard any purported versions of the laws lacking proper authentication.

"We are aware of the legitimate procedures towards the gazetting of laws, and it starts with the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) transmitting the actual copies of the laws to the relevant federal agency that gazettes all government documents, which means, the National Assembly is always the custodian of the genuine documents of the laws of the federation that have been passed, and, therefore, we will always make sure that it is the truth that prevails in moments of controversy such as this,” the statement read.

“We therefore call on Nigerians to disregard any purported tax laws being circulated without the signature of the CNA and the President and Commander in Chief, such did not originate from the National Assembly, and neither do they reflect the true character of what were actually passed by the Legislature and signed by the President,” it added.

“Any attempt to foist fake laws on Nigerians is an attack on the independence and constitutional role of the National Assembly in safeguarding our democracy, and the Caucus will unconditionally protect the independence of the Legislature and our democracy.”

The Minority Caucus demanded an immediate halt to implementation until clarity is achieved.

“Consequently, we call on the government to suspend the implementation of the tax laws until investigations are concluded and there is clarity and certainty of the law to be implemented,” the release stated.

“Moreover, Nigerians and the business community are entitled to copies of the laws that they are expected [to comply with].”

Due Process Is Not Optional: Why the National Assembly’s Authentication of the Tax Reform Acts Upholds Law, Order, and Democratic Integrity

By Philip Agbese

In every constitutional democracy, the legitimacy of law does not rest on sentiment or speed, but on process. Laws derive their authority not merely from political will or popular approval, but from scrupulous adherence to the procedures laid down by the Constitution and statute. It is against this background that recent public commentary surrounding the authentication, assent, and gazetting of key tax reform legislation must be understood, and properly situated within Nigeria’s constitutional order.

The National Assembly, as the custodian of legislative authority, has responded not with defensiveness or evasion, but with institutional sobriety. The leadership of both Chambers has activated the very safeguards that give law its moral and legal force: verification, certification, and transparency. This is not an act of weakness. It is the essence of legislative strength.

The press release issued by the Management of the National Assembly makes this point unambiguously. Faced with questions relating to the harmonisation, assent, and gazetting of the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025; the Nigeria Tax Administration Act, 2025; the Joint Revenue Board of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2025; and the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act, 2025, the legislature chose the path of constitutional due diligence rather than public polemics . That choice deserves commendation.

At the heart of the matter is the Acts Authentication Act, Cap. A4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004. This statute exists for a simple but profound reason: to ensure that what is passed by the legislature, assented to by the President, and published for public reliance is the same text. Authentication is not an optional bureaucratic ritual; it is the bridge between legislative intent and legal certainty. Without it, the integrity of the statute book itself would be compromised.

The steps undertaken by the National Assembly, as illustrated in the published authentication process, reflect long-established parliamentary practice. From the preparation of the certified true copy of the Bill after enactment, through compilation and certification of the schedule of Bills for assent, to gazetting and official publication, each stage serves a distinct constitutional purpose. Collectively, they form a chain of custody for the law. Break that chain, and legal chaos follows.

Crucially, the leadership has been careful to clarify that the ongoing internal review does not concede any defect in legislative authority, nor does it encroach upon the functions of the Executive or Judiciary. It is an internal, administrative exercise aimed at clarity, accuracy, and the sanctity of the legislative record . In constitutional terms, this is precisely how a mature legislature should behave: correcting its own processes where necessary, without grandstanding or blame-shifting.

There is also a moral dimension that should not be overlooked. Tax legislation affects every citizen, every business, and the fiscal stability of the state. Such laws must command confidence. When the legislature demonstrates that it is willing to pause, verify, and certify before insisting on finality, it reinforces public trust. Due process is not the enemy of reform; it is the condition that makes reform legitimate and durable.

The legal effect of this approach is equally important. Official gazetting and the issuance of certified true copies provide courts, regulators, investors, and citizens with an authoritative text upon which rights and obligations can safely be based. In an era where disputes often turn on the precise wording of statutes, the insistence on authentication is not pedantry. It is prudence.

Those urging haste over process should reflect on comparative experience. In established democracies, legislatures routinely delay commencement, correct clerical inconsistencies, and re-certify statutes to protect the integrity of the legal order. Nigeria is not being exceptional; it is being orthodox.

Ultimately, the National Assembly’s actions reaffirm a deeper constitutional principle: that law is greater than politics, and procedure is the guardian of substance. By acting within the Constitution, the Acts Authentication Act, Standing Orders, and established parliamentary conventions, the leadership has shown fidelity not just to power, but to responsibility.

In defending due diligence, the National Assembly is defending the rule of law itself. That is not merely legal correctness. It is a democratic virtue.
