Contact the location that you are purchasing your CTN's from - They will answer the majority of these questions. Regarding the cost of CTN's , American Export Lines does not mark up our CTN cost. For now we are just suffering the loss of manpower and time to do them for free. But the customer (shipper) must pay us exactly what it costs us. Per single unit ro / ro under 650 cft = $100.00 USD Per single unit 20 ft cntr = $100.00 USD Per single unit 40 cntr = $175.00 USD ** One container steamship line is allowing "NO CTN" as an option - but any problems and you are on your own - per the steamship line. ** As far as if a shipment arrives into Nigeria without a CTN (and if a problem occurs ) - My understanding is that the cargo may be held until a CTN is produced. Takes about 3 days. The only fines that would incur to the cargo are related to demurrage that might be owed from late clearing out of the terminal. The true fines for shipping without a CTN are to be bourne / absorbed by the actual steam ship line. The Steamship line is supposed to be mandating that each manifested unit not be loaded at point of origin unless it has an accompanied CTN. Hope this helps. American Ex - 30 years USA to Nigeria. |
Ask me what the rates are to Tin Can Nigeria from the East Coast of the USA, Perhaps you'll get lucky and hear something you like and so will anyone else reading this thread, You do clearing in Tin can - correct ? We've been shipping (but only for our AEL customers) for 30 years into Tin Can. Maybe their is a symbiosis we can explore. RE : ACL / Grimaldi West African direct service The vessel Grande Benin was involved in an incident while shifting under pilotage from ASI Brooklyn to Bayonne during her NY port call. Unfortunately this caused significant damage to the vessel and thus the vessel will need to discharge all cargo currently onboard before proceeding directly to dry dock for repairs. All cargo already loaded in Jacksonville, Savannah, Baltimore, Bayonne and ASI will be discharged in ASI and reloaded on to the Grande Marocco which has been diverted to NY eta 5th January. The Grande Marocco will also call Bayonne to load the remainder of the original Grande Benin load list and will replace the Grande Benin in Boston (eta 9th January). The Grande Marocco will arrive on the WAF coast approximately 6 days after the original Grande Benin schedule. With the above in place the Grande Marocco will only replace the Grande Benin voyage and not call Jacksonville, savannah, Baltimore and not load in NY or Boston as scheduled mid January. Effectively the next voyage is the Grande Guinea 0111. All efforts are being made to advance this vessel and reduce the gap between the Grande Benin/Marocco combined voyage and the scheduled Grande Guinea, so please check the website for updated schedules. Current eta is 18th January in Jacksonville. After the Grande Guinea we expect to return to our regular every 14 days schedule. We apologize for the inconvenience this event has caused. Please contact customer service or your sales representative for further clarification. Please check our website for updated schedule information. Regards, WAF Direct services If you have business with AEL NJ call and we will keep you updated as best we can. American Export Lines John Strozyk (973) 824-2333 Jstrozyk@aelshipping.com |
Curious to hear what the group thinks about the steamship lines and the NPA enforcing the CTN again. Seems a little childish - that the Nigerian Government uses third party companies in different countries to enforce its own laws. But that's just me trying to stir the POT. But really - it looks really bad to everyone in the industry - if a company like ours ( Freight forwarding / NVOCC from the United States ) forces people to buy a CTN only to discover at the destination it may not be needed. |
I'd be interested in hearing a clearing agents info about CTN as well. One company is still not demanding it from their customers, So it may be either a disaster for everyone using the service and chosing not to buy a CTN - or it may be OK. Fhemmi - what have you been seeing ? |

The freight forwarders and NVOCC's (like us , Non-vessel owning common carrier) are being forced to purchase for our customers these certificates. That requirement is being imposed to get the cargo loaded. The master shipping instructions sheets are being refused without the CTN numbers attached. Only one steamshipline is still allowing it to be your choice. I am currently trying to hear what is actually "happening" at the terminals - for those clearing with CTN's and for those clearing without CTN's. I guess congestion has already started because of this and the ANCLA's protests. |
What is the latest that is going on in NG with this? One steam ship line is refusing to make it mandatory, What are you importing experiences with the CTN (within the last 2 weeks) Is it being enforced locally - hand to hand? Or is it Business as usual - Hand to hand with your experiences. We do not like being forced to collect "taxes" for anyone - we are a shipping company and want to know what "others" experiences have been. JSTROZYK@AELSHIPPING.COM John |

This monster has reared it's ugly head again, ! American Export Lines will ship your cargo at the most competitive rates and charge for a CTN (with no mark up). One container steamship line is still shipping and allowing the customer to chose to either purchase a CTN or to sign a waiver - not to purhcase one. Either way that one steamship line is still allowing it to proceed and be shipped. anyone interested in more info contact AEL at JSTROZYK@AELSHIPPING.COM |

OK - guys so here we are again. An official decree has again been made by the NPA to all Importers. The shipments coming into your country must all be accompanied by a ridiculously expensive CTN. What's the story? How long will the riuel be imposed - this time. Our business is still moving at a good pace, but this hiccup will slow it down. We specialize in USA to Nigeria cargo. |

Ok so what is the latest in Nigeria w/ the CTN? Are fines being imposed - Is it needed - or can it be managed without? It is a shame that this is a Monopoly and not open for Freemarket activity - the Nigerian Government is really bending everyone over and allowing these contractors to have their way. To purchase the CTN in the United States there is only one company that it can be bought from. And since the Nigerian government has a 60/40 or 50/50 split with the company collecting the CTN money and issuing the Tracking notes - where is the free market competition. I am sure that if the business were "put out to bid" to all contractors - someone would have come in and offered maybe a 90/10 split and saved everyone a boat load of money. If a CTN for a single small ro/ro vehicle is 375.00. at 50/50 -then that means Nigeria is only getting - 187.50 for each one. This Monopoly on the CTN's must change. If the split was bid out to another contractor that maybe went 90/10 - then the CTN would only cost you @ 205.00 based on the ratio. NIGERIANS should demand FREEMARKET conditions. |

I have been inquiring about this and shouting for weeks. We do a big volume of Ro/Ro and CNTR s into Nigeria. Many of our customers do no believe this is the "real deal" . Come March 1st . lets hope things can be handled in the African Manner "on the bottom" . Everyone that ships with our company was warned . A note of interest is that any value declared to US customs may be declared on the CTN (if you do not make plans with your shipper) These CTN's show the value declared of the cargo - Don't hurt yourselves. John 973-824-2333 AEL@verizon.net JSTROZYK@AELSHIPPING.COM |
No that rate does not include CTN ctn's are $375.00 for the first one on a Bill of lading. So for example - if you do a Ro/Ro shipment under the same consignee / receivers name it will cost you 375.00 (for the first) 85.00 for # 2 85.00 for # 3 85.00 for # 4 85.00 for # 5 etc, As long as the receiver does not change God willing this CTN issue will start being dealt with Hand to Hand in NPA locations. I do not remember applying for a job with the NPA. |
