CAPSLOCKED:
IF PRAYER WAS POWERFUL AND POTENT, NIGERIA WILL BE BIGGER AND BETTER THAN INDIA, JAPAN, AUSTRALIA, NORWAY, ICELAND, AND MANY OTHER COUNTRIES THAT DON'T PRAY TO "GOD" AND JESUS.
OR PERHAPS, PROBABLY, THE PRAYERS THAT WORK HAS NEVER BEEN SAID BY ANYONE. Prayer works. It is the fault of Nigerian pastors who have blindly ruined the real doctrines of God. That KS why the Nigerian prayers doesn't reflect on our collective benefits. The Bible says faith without work is dead. Do you know that millions of Nigerians hope to get rewarded without working but only praying? So who is deceiving them self here? If the Bible tells you to WORK before you can eat but you chose otherwise, you will only die of hunger and that is no fault of God. The Nigerian pastors are the cause of this epidemic we have in Nigeria. Look at Isreal, the decendants of Abraham, they are surrounded by Muslims but they don't kneel down to pray for God to safe them from their Muslim enemies, but they ACT! They attack their enemies IF provoked... But what do we have in Nigeria? People resort to prayer instead of doing both. It is no fault of God when they are not even following his laid down principles. Some will be hoping to get a job or miraculous "grace" as they put it. God has no time to look at your face... He will bless whomever obeys his rule, no matter what you worship. When God said go into the world an multiply, many Nigerians would interpret that to mean go into the world make only babies and that is why when you ask them how many Children they wanna have, the give numbers and then you say how are you gonna take care of the kids... You will Hear stupid monotonous reply "God will provide" But countries that have decided to multiply what God has given the world are ahead of us... China is developing, exploring their God given potential even though they don't worship God. They are being realistic. Some may argue that why would God bless China since they don't worship him. Here is the truth. When Government decree or enact a law, it is final (in saner climes though). If you obey the law, whether you are Christian or Muslim or atheist, it doesn't matter and you will be rewarded. If you disobey the law, you will be purnished as well. That is how God's rule works. Nigerians are the cause of their own problems because they live in denial. God will not solve any problem that he knows you are cable of solving.that is why he gave you hands and brain in the first place. |
Christianity Etc › Re: Why Do Christians Underestimate The Power Of Prayer? by americanson: 9:42am On Feb 04, 2018 |
hopefulLandlord: Anyone who thinks prayer does anything is vastly overestimating the power of prayer
In fact, many believers regularly pray before they eat their meal, asking Yahweh to bless the food, and yet the food that many of these believers eat is actually killing them. Look at the epidemic of obesity in the southern US, an area with some of the most devout people in the entire country. (I use the US cuz they keep records much better than Nigeria) If praying before you ate a meal did anything we'd expect to see believers suffering less of the ill effects of their diet compared to those who don't, yet this is clearly not the case.
also, there are actual scientific studies on prayer. Not one has ever shown any connection between prayer and real world outcomes. The only connection is that people who pray BELIEVE that their prayers are answered mostly because humans are designed to ignore all the facts that don't fit their beliefs. But the FACT is, we have studied prayer and it appears to have zero effect on anything. Unfortunately, every time some religious notion is disproven, religious people simply pivot to saying that Yahweh's plan is impossible to divine. AND YET, for some reason, the Bible commands us to pray which makes no sense AND has a scientifically proven lack of effect. People don't really believe in prayer. They know it's random. They are just scared of their mortality and can't accept that bad things happen for no reason. It's sad.
Finally, I've always said you would have the same success praying to a milk jug as you do praying to Yahweh -- the milk jug sometimes answers your prayer the way you want to, sometimes not and sometimes the answer is delayed. See the problem here? If things turn out the way you want them to, you say it was because you prayed. If not, it's because Yahweh knows what's best and you didn't pray for the right thing. Or, if it happens 10 years later you say Yahweh answered your prayer, it was just delayed. This is nonsense. You would have the exact same effect doing nothing. Prayer works... But I am of the opinion that in a case where you can solve the problem yourself, God will not do anything. Praying at a time when you have tried all options is great. |

LaudateII: Honestly, this story is the best thing I have read on NL, in the past one month. I have read it over and over again. Each time, I read through it, a new angle pops up. There are too many rich kids from a similar background, who would not have dared to do half of what he did.
Paddy is such a gifted writer. He shared his story in such an articulate, touching way. If he ever gets bored of the business world, he should venture into the literary circle. He'd make not just lots of money, but also get a large cult following, who would hang on his every word! Boss, I have to follow you here cos I have decided I really need mentors to groom me beyond what I know. |

LaudateII: Beautiful! Awesome! Those were the first words that crossed my mind, when I read this article. The next was "audacious." Paddy Adenuga has shared his thoughts, in a way that grips the senses and makes it difficult for you to look away. I would like to see this story made into a movie or at worst, a documentary, because there are too many valuable lessons in it.
1). It is not enough to dream, you must also 'do': Vision is what gives rise to action. And action is what gives birth to change. Too many of us dream of how to do something different, or make something great. Very few of us actually take the plunge. Paddy had an idea, and he took steps to make it happen. So many people have a dream, but do not know how to go about actualising it. Paddy had a dream, then he formed a plan, put up a structure, built a financial base, got the right people and executed it.
2). Money answereth most, (not all) things: Yes, one might have money, but if such funds are not deployed in a productive venture or in a fruitful manner, in the right way, at the right place, into the right endeavour, then such funds would never add any benefit to its' owner. It would dwindle, and eventually get frittered away. Too many rich kids live lives of opulence with zero sense of direction. It is critical to know when and how to throw the right sum of money into a good venture, in order to make it profitable.
Money, no matter how much it is, is certainly not a substitute for skill, expertise, hard work or talent. Money in the wrong hands could even become a destructive force, if the owner does not know what to do with it. Money could also prevent a person from thinking clearly, if it is allowed to cloud the senses. It is also critical to know exactly when to stop throwing good money after bad, and when to cut your losses and walk away.
3). A financial war chest is a great asset, but not a substitute for homework: Some dreams won't come true, unless you have the money to bring them to reality. As stated earlier, it is not just the cash that matters, but the work you put in to ensure that money makes things happen for you, or creates opportunities that work in your favour, or help you accomplish your tasks. There is an old saying that goes this way - "Take what you want from life, but make sure to pay for it." Paddy had a war chest of 50 million USD. It made everyone sit up, and take him seriously.
But the most important bit, was that Paddy did his homework thoroughly. He researched the company he wanted to buy inside out, he contacted movers and shakers that could influence the bid outcome, and persuaded his competitors to become his partners. Compare this to the DISCOs who bought over electricity firms in the country, and started crying about how indebted those firms were, the day after they had bought them. They even went back to govt to beg for more money at the end of the day.
4). Prepare, Collaborate - always get the best talent and reward them: In setting up Catalan, Paddy didn't look towards his clique, lineage, colour or ethnic group, but sourced for those with the right skills, the right aptitude, intelligence, talent and experience, who could contribute meaningfully to his endeavour, and brought them on board. He avoided mediocres. Only those who knew their stuff got on his team. One man does not make a forest.
He surrounded himself with valuable sources of experience in the form of his mentor, his advisers etc., and reached across global distances to form alliances, even with those who initially competed against him. In Nigeria, we like to do things alone and this sometimes takes a huge toll on us. In many places here, collaboration is almost like a dirty word...and many of us, don't listen to good advice. Too many folks often think they know it all.
5). Aim high, stake big: Paddy sought for the best deal for his company. He didn't think small. Another person might have seen the Chevron Netherlands acquisition, as too big a deal, to even touch. But for Paddy, it was the perfect vehicle to launch his vision. He didn't think it was too far-fetched for a young African boy, to make a bid for the Dutch subsidiary of one of the world's most successful oil companies - Chevron. Paddy had what they called 'chutzpah,' the Hebrew word for confidence and audacity.
6). Choose the right strategy, and listen to your instincts: When the power play started, Paddy had to change his strategy. He applied native wisdom to his tactics. First, when someone on the team of his competitors was becoming an obstacle to his plans, he fired off an explosive e-mail to his partners, that upset the apple cart. In the ensuing scramble to unravel the subsequent chain of events, his greatest stumbling block on the opposing team called Alex, played right into his hands.
Sometimes all the best advice in the world, might go against your gut instinct. What do you do? That is the million dollar question. It takes years of practice and sequence of events, to learn how to distinguish between the right gut instinct, and the wrong ones. Paddy made a few right calls when he followed his instincts, initially. But when he failed to go with his instincts, that one time - he lost.
7). Divine intervention has a part to play: Each time he was at a cross road, Paddy prayed. And somehow, answers came. He knew he didn't have all the answers so he trusted the Creator to step into the situation, and make things work out in his favour. Yet, in one instance he actually overlooked one of the answers sent to him by God, when he ignored Remi, an old friend who actually had the right keys to his puzzle. And it cost him big time, at the end of the day.
There are too many lessons to be learnt from this story, and I do hope that one day, Paddy would launch another bid for a global oil firm . I believe his next venture would be successful. Why? He has gone through a difficult baptism, and has learnt too many valuable lessons in how NOT to fail again, in a business deal. They don't teach such things in Harvard Business School.

But what most people missed is that he has not deployed his Trojan horse yet... The acquisition was just first phase of the whole plan. The next phase was to put him on global radar and possibly dragging rank with his own father. He was merely bootstrapping, acutely using a leverage not yet seen... |

adeyemik: Op, it is good to let her be.
I was in similar situations some years ago. Dated a lady for 4 years, we met when she was in year 1, second semester final year, she told me, she was no longer interested. I was devastated, the shock landed me in the hospital, The plan was that before she goes for her NYSC, we do the introduction and after NYSC, we do the tradition and white wedding, unknown to me, her pastor was reformatting her brain and she swallowed whatsoever she was been told.
Her mum and sisters tried to convince her, but she stuck to her guns. I tried talking her out of her decision, but could not get her to change her decision. After all said and done, no change of heart, I let go and faced the future, hoping for the best.
Fast forward to 2016: 15 years after her self decision to quit the relationship, I ran into her elder sister, asked about her, the elder sister told me she was doing well, but she (girlfriend) was still single. I felt very bad and disappointed.
So sometimes what you can't change, you have to let go. Jesus... 15 years and not married? I was still in secondary school then. |

bignigerian: Hi guys I have to open an account to let out this story.
My girlfriend of 5 years, she was 18 and I was 23 both students when we met. We have shared everything together, I mean everything u can possibly think of. She told me she can't continue the relationship. That we can't marry each other.
Her reasons She met 2 pastors who told her we are not compatible with each other. One told her in 2014 and the other in 2016 of which she told me about both of them. But last 3 weeks she broke the ice on the grounds that 1. she needs to choose her husband with all diligence. That her grandmother has 2 husbands, her mum has 2 husbands and she can't thread that path because those pastors told her we shall split if she marries me. 2. She doesn't want me to hear that she got married to someone else.
Her mum doesn't like me and doesn't want me to marry her and recently she is pestering her to marry another man, her Pastor. This man talks with her every time, calls her, gives her and her mother gifts. Well I give them gifts to my capacity too. But pastor is playing son-in-law game well because he (pastor) said God told him that she is his wife. The pastor anyway happened to be a real pastor, I can attest to that, but I can't vouch if his vision is from God or self induced.
But babe told me she has not made up her mind yet and that she didn't break up with me to marry that man. That she will take her time to decide what she will do and maintaining a single status.
We all stay in the same neighborhood, bae is a nairalander too. She will see this and get angry but... I need matured views on this issue... Be man... Work forking hard, so forking hard that in the future she will regret ever doing this to you. Take it as challenge and move on like a man. If you offended her that is different thing... The mother is judging you by current status.. This same thing happened to a nairalander that I can't remember the name. He worked so much hard he became the hope of his ex and her husband cos they could only feed through the job he gave the ex's husband. This was narrated last year. Go hard or go extinct |

You will be looking for something important and get served with something useless. PRIME!
https://www.nairaland.com/714139/only-married-men-ask-me/4#8733546 Sagamite: His point (and a very valid point at it) is that women tend to be more attractive in their late teens and early twenties.
I have even seen some scientific research that backs that up. The research result showed most women were at their most attractive between the ages of 15 to 24. Obviously there is some deviation, but that is the strongest range. And it is based on effortless naturality, not those that put effort in. So one can easily say women are usually at their prime at 20.
If you know how many women I have seen when I was young and were absolutely stunning when they were 18, then I see them 10 years later and most of the beauty is gone, you go bow. Obviously, if they had put effort in to stay fit, it might be a different story.
As people get older, they age and the body is not so generous in regulating itself and keeping that lovely figure, people have to work tirelessly for it. When they are 20, it is effortless. I am only attracted to ladies who look younger... I look far younger than my age too and I get turned off when it appear like a lady is older than me. |
