So a Dubai-based Indian national, Mr Mohammed Shazul was arrested by the Nigeria Police have arrested for allegedly procuring a Dubai visa using a Nigerian’s name without his consent. Sources close to Federal Criminal Intelligence Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon Close, Lagos, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.

The source said that operatives from the FCIID arrested Shazul after a petition by the Nigerian, Mr Ayodotun Babalola, to the police authorities. It said the Indian, Vice-President of Fast Logistics Solution Group, an air cargo company based in Dubai was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Monday on arrival from Dubai.

“When the Inspector-General of Police got the petition dated August 19, 2015, he sent it through the DIG, FCIID to the “X” Squad Annex, Lagos for investigation.

Well D’banj was reportedly attacked by thugs last Saturday, at Tin Can Port, Lagos. The entertainer had shown up for a video shoot, in a Toyota RAV 4, when he got mobbed by local touts in the neighborhood.

After seeing D’banj, the area boys numbering over 50, requested for cash settlement, and then proceeded to deflate his tyres. D’banj, was said to have alighted from his car and took them to an ATM where he withdrew some money to settle them.

The thugs were also said to have stripped him of his wristwatch, shoes and other jewelry.

As much as this may have been an actual heist, a fan who couldn’t believe D’banj was in her neighborhood, was more excited than worried about the artiste.

Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Tuesday said the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration would soon commence giving primary school children free meals.

The vice president said the free feeding scheme was a core project of the Federal Government that would in turn yield about 1.14 million jobs and increase in food production.

Osinbajo said this at the 45th Annual Accountants Conference in Abuja.

He said the government would be investing more in the people, education and job creation.

Speaking on the topic “Repositioning Nigeria for Sustainable Development: From Rhetoric to Performance,” Osinbajo said that the multiplier effects of the introduction of the school feeding scheme would help to create 1.14 million new jobs; increase food production by up to 530,000 metric tonnes per annum, as well as attract fresh investments up to N980bn.

3 people were killed yesterday after a container on a 40-feet trailer fell off the Ojuelegba Bridge onto the road below.

We learnt that the container, which was not latched to the trailer, crushed two private vehicles which were in motion.

The vehicles, a white Toyota and a black jeep, were reportedly mangled under the weight of the container.

A crowd of residents and motorists was said to have converged on the scene as there was apprehension on the number of casualties involved in the incident.

The attack on a team of policemen in Owutu area of Ikorodu, Lagos, in the early hours of Monday, during which three policemen were shot dead and others injured, was said to have been carried out by militants-turned vandals.

This is just as the policeman, who managed to escape from the scene of the shooting, attributed his survival to his name.

The surviving policeman, a Sergeant identified as Fortunate Endurance Imasuen, according to a family friend who spoke on condition, said: “My name, Fortunate, saved me. For the first time in my life, I knew the meaning of my name.

“I am indeed fortunate and I thank God for my parents who gave me such name.”

Sergeant Imasuen, said to be in a stable condition yesterday, was reportedly shot in the leg.
Impeccable sources disclosed that the militants, who attacked the policemen, were clad in black shirts and trousers, with red bands tied on their heads.

They were reportedly alerted by their colleagues who were apprehended by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, for onward transfer to the Anti-Pipeline Vandalism squad.

At press time, the whereabouts of the three policemen said to have been shot by the vandals were yet unknown.

Information at Vanguard’s disposal revealed that trouble was allegedly caused by operatives of the SARS who were deplored to the area to checkmate activities of vandals.

A total of 150 SARS operatives were reportedly deplored to Ishawo area to complement efforts of policemen from Owutu Division.

It was also gathered that SARS operatives pin-down point was different from that of policemen from Owutu.

Report had it that while a team of policemen from Owutu allegedly allowed the vandals passage, their colleagues from SARS insisted on handing them over to the Anti-Pipeline Vandalism Unit inspite of explanation by the vandals that they had allegedly paid an unspecified amount to some of their colleagues.

The argument reportedly went on for about 30 minuites, when all of a sudden, their colleagues, numbering over 50, stormed the area and opened fire on the unsuspecting policemen, killing three of them on the spot.

Although one of the vandals was reportedly shot dead, his body was said to have been taken away in one of his colleagues’ operational vehicles, alongside that of the dead policemen.

Police reacts
Spokesperson of Lagos State Police Command, Patricia Amadin, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the attack.

She said: “ The policemen encountered an attack by armed men suspected to be militants at about 3a.m., Monday.

“Meanwhile, the command is on the lookout for three of its personnel discovered missing after the encounter, while an intensive manhunt is on for the fleeing felons.

“The command appeals to the public to volunteer in-formation and report cases of pesons with gunshot wounds to the nearest station.”

Tragedy struck on Monday on Ishawo Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State, after some Ijaw youths, suspected to be pipeline vandals, opened fire on policemen in the area, killing four.

While three of the deceased were attached to the Owutu Police Division, one was from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

Residents said the Ijaw youths took away the corpses of three of their victims.

Our correspondent observed during a visit to the area that there was apprehension in the community, while there were still bloodstains at the scene of the shooting.

There was confusion in the Ijora Badia area of Lagos State when a two-year-old boy, Ibrahim, died after eating a plate of rice suspected to have been poisoned. The food was prepared by his mother, Fatimoh Azeez.

Fatimoh, however, said the food was eaten by other members of her family who were not hurt, adding that she suspected that one of her sisters-in-law, Fatimoh Rasaki, who had visited her on the day of the incident, had a hand in the death of the child.

Our correspondent learnt that Fatimoh used to visit her boyfriend, Isa, regularly in his parents’ apartment on Olajide Street in the Ijora community.

She was said to have become pregnant for him and was later delivered of the boy.

A 16-year-old boy, Ejoboh Iroboh, has been arrested for dealing in unauthorised wine products, and using forged registration numbers of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control. The minor was apprehended last Wednesday along with eight other suspects, said to be retailers in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State by the state command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The suspects were identified as Emmanuel Godwin (19), Ifeanyi Mba (23), Okechukwu Nweke, Emmanuel Mba (23), Emmanuel Chukwu, Kazim Idowu, Chibuike Ona and Mrs. Clara Akalazu, who was released on bail on health grounds.

Operatives of the corps stormed buildings in the Lucky Fibre and Oke-Agbo areas of Ikorodu, where the products – Princess Fruit and Merry Fruit – were being distilled respectively.

The police in Ogun State have arrested three suspected cult members in the Ijoko area of the state in connection with a deadly clash between two rival groups – Eiye and Aiye confraternities ─ in the community.

We learnt that the suspects, identified as Idris Adejumo, aka Aloma; Muyideen Bello, aka Iso; and Friday Edoh, were apprehended around 8am on Wednesday by policemen attached to the Agbado Police Division shortly after they started fomenting trouble in the neighborhood.

Edoh claimed to be a member of a vigilance group while Aloma confessed to being a member of Aiye Confraternity. Iso said he was just a friend to Aloma.

Three persons were reportedly killed in Makurdi, the Benue State capital during Saturday’s cult clash among gangs and members of a vigilante group, Vanguard reports.

According to the report, about six other persons were injured, including an Indian national, who was reportedly shot in the head. A source quoted in the report said the fight for supremacy by the rival cult groups began at the Welfare Quarters area of Makurdi, leading to the shooting of three persons, including members of the vigilante group who intervened in the fight.

A court in Arizona said on Tuesday that a man who admitted to decapitating his wife and her two dogs in a bloody incident in Phoenix said he was attempting to “get the evil out of her.’’

The prosecutor said Kenneth-Dale Wakefield, 43, also said he had smoked marijuana and the designer drug spice before the gruesome killings in a Phoenix apartment on July 25.

The prosecutor said Wakefield, a transient with a history of mental illness, was booked into a Maricopa County jail on Aug. 1 on one-count of first-degree murder and two counts of animal cruelty after being released from a local hospital.

The prosecutor said he was held on two million dollars bond and was expected to appear in court for a status conference on Aug. 7.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency has sealed a hotel owned by ex-Super Eagles player, Kanu Nwankwo, the Hardley Apartments, on Victoria Island.

The hotel was among other hotels, churches and mosques sealed across the state on Monday over alleged air and noise pollution. No fewer than 30 facilities were shut in areas, including Ketu, Ikorodu, Ibeju-Lekki, Victoria Island and Surulere.

LASEPA said the owners of the facilities had been contacted several times in the last one year, adding that they refused to fully complied with LASEPA’s instructions. At a mosque in Ketu ─ Olorunkemi Mosque ─ the leaders claimed to have taken down their speakers as instructed by the agency almost immediately.
