PoliticsUs Army Plans ‘iron Man’ Armor For Soldiers by aminho(op): 4:38am On Oct 12, 2013
US Army researchers are
working on building hi-tech body armor that would
give soldiers “superhuman strength” in a real-
life version of the suit featured in “Iron Man”
films.
The blueprint for the “revolutionary” Tactical
Assault Light Operator Suit (TALOS) would include
an exoskeleton to allow a soldier to carry heavy
equipment, built-in computing power, beefed up
protection to stop bullets and a system to monitor
vital signs, officials said.

on october 12, 2013 at 3:00 am in news
WASHINGTON (AFP) – ologies planned for
TALOS research and development include advanced
armor, situational awareness, command and control
computers, power management systems, and
enhanced mobility exoskeletons,” according to a
US Army statement issued last month.
US Special Operations Command, which oversees
elite Navy SEAL and Army Ranger commandos, put
out the call last month for research papers on
potential technologies that a “smart” combat
suit could incorporate.
The request for “white papers” will extend
through September 2014, and then commanders and
defense officials will weigh how to proceed while
taking into account growing pressures on the
Pentagon budget, said spokesman Roger Teel of the
Army’s Research, Development and Engineering
Command, or RDECOM.
The new combat armor might also employ “liquid
armor,” reminiscent of the “Terminator” films,
though the technology is still in an early stage of
development, Teel told AFP.
The liquid would transform into a solid if a
magnetic or electrical charge was applied.
“There is a liquid armor that they are looking at
developing,” said Teel, adding that scientists at
MIT were studying the idea. “It could possibly be
turned on with a battery switch” to deflect
gunfire, he said.
TALOS “is an advanced infantry uniform that
promises to provide superhuman strength with
greater ballistic protection,” according to an
earlier statement from RDECOM.
In a crude animated demonstration video released
by the army on how the combat suit might operate,
a soldier in science fiction-inspired gear stands in
a doorway as bullets bounce off at close range from
an unidentified enemy.
While ominous music plays in the background, the
words “to be continued…” flash upon the
screen.
The project’s acronym, TALOS, refers to the
automaton of Greek mythology made of bronze that
Zeus deploys to safeguard his lover Europa.
Despite previous weapons programs that came to
little, officials say the technologies for the
ambitious project are not out of reach, even if they
sound more like the stuff of myth or movie.
The concept of providing virtual displays of
battlefield forces in a soldier’s helmet screen
resembles similar efforts already underway for a
sophisticated helmet for pilots flying the new F-35
fighter jet.
Reflecting advances in robotics and computing
power, the TALOS suit is part of a trend in current
research focusing on what defense industry experts
call “man-machine interface,” aiming to
dramatically increase the capabilities of a single
soldier.
Officials said the TALOS project is the brainchild of
Admiral William McRaven, head of special operations
command, who rose to prominence presiding over the
Navy SEAL raid that killed Al-Qaeda mastermind
Osama bin Laden.
“I’m very committed to this,” McRaven told an
industry conference in July. “I’d like that last
operator that we lost to be the last operator we
lose in this fight or the fight of the future, and I
think we can get there.”
As the proposed suit would draw on a range of
technical disciplines, the military expects the
project to be developed jointly by academia,
government scientists and technology firms,
officials said.
Special Operations command is “interested in
receiving white papers from a wide variety of
sources, not just traditional military industry but
also from academia, entrepreneurs and laboratories
capable of providing the design, construction and
testing of TALOS related technologies,” said
James Geurts, acquisition executive for the
command.
And officials said it was too early to offer any cost
estimate.
Although defense officials acknowledge the project
evokes comparisons to Tony Stark’s superhero
suit from the “Iron Man” movies, they note that
no one is claiming the smart armor will enable
soldiers to soar like a plane over cities.
“It’s not going to fly. It’s not going to be all
that,” Teel said. “But it’s going to be
special.”

SportsArsenal Signs Nigerian U20 International Semi Ajayi by aminho(op): 6:23am On Sep 19, 2013
Arsene Wenger has continued his trademark approach of signing raw young talent with up and coming Nigerian youngster Semi Ajayi, becoming his latest acquisition, reports the Metro. The young defender is a welcome addition to a Gunners squad reeling with injuries. However, it is unlikely that the 19 year old will get first team opportunities anytime soon and is probably one for the future. Ajayi joins Arsenal on a free transfer from Charlton Athletic, the same club which gave the Gunners Carl Jenkinson a few years back at a similar age.

The Gunners were yet to officially confirm the move but Ajayi took to twitter to thank Charlton and speak about his move to Arsenal.

‘Thank you everyone for the messages wishing me well on my move to Arsenal I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount and I’m truly grateful. It was sad to end my ten year spell with Charlton this summer but I can’t speak highly enough of all of the wonderful people I met during my ten years there & I wish all those at @CAFCofficial the best for the future as I will always have a soft spot for the club & its fans. Delighted to announce that I have officially signed for @Arsenal FC. Can’t wait to see what the next two seasons here have in store for me,’ tweeted Ajayi.

Ajayi also reportedly featured for Norwich City prior to the beginning of the season. The Nigerian U20 international also put in an impressive shift in his trial for the Arsenal youth team, which included a headed goal against Blackburn Rovers. The Arsenal coaching staff were sufficiently impressed and have reportedly granted him a two year contract.

Ajayi, himself, is a big Gunners fan and reportedly idolizes former North London greats Tony Adams and Lee Dixon.

PoliticsWelcoming The 7th Infantry Division Of The Nigerian Army To Borno State. by aminho(op): 1:17pm On Aug 20, 2013
We sincerely welcome the creation of the 7th infantry division of the Nigeria Army and their subsequent deployment to our dear state. This is not only a Welcome development, but a commendable step by the federal govt. This has bring to an end the operations of the JTF in the state, as they are due to hand over the operations to the new GOC 7th division today. The JTF has in recent time conducted them-selfs very well in spite of their brutality against the civilian population in the past. This simply means all other sister security agencies other than the Nigeria Army will be withdrawn from the operations in Borno and other parts of the northeast. This will enhance the fight against this bloodsucking monsters who does not value human lives, this is because some members of the JTF like the paramilitary organizations, as well as the Airforce and the Navy are not specialist when it comes to such operations and by this step, surely a new strategy is being adopted in fighting this devils. As await the success of this exercise, it is our hope that it will bring the final solutions to the insecurity in the region.

It is also important for the state govt to complement such effort by assisting the military to mop out the reminents of the insurgents who are attacking villagers. This can be done by ordering all the local govt councils to immediately constitute the civilian JTF in all the local govt areas. At-least if each local govt will form the civilian JTF with 200 youths and backed by at-least 30 trained soldiers, in a short period of time this cultist will be eliminated. This 200 youths if they will be given a token allowance of N10,000 per month, it will only cost 2 million naira. With other mobility and other things, 5 million naira will be OK for the operations, which is within the reach of the local govt councils. After all, what are they even doing with their monthly grand? Unfortunately, the Governor has to give the order because these local govt officials are appointed by him rather than elected, and some of them are grossly incompetent to initiate such move.

Our Niegbouring states of Adamawa, Yobe, Bauchi, and Gombe should as well form the civilian JTF, to insure that the region get rid of this unfortunate situation that we have found our selfs in.

May Allah grant this newly deployed over 8,000 troops and our civilian JTF the wisdom and the strength to defeat this devils.

Statement from the Atiku Media Office, regarding the reported registration of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) as a political party

*

I'm in PDP, other parties are welcome – Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said while he remains a loyal PDP member, he doesn’t have the right or power to stop others from associating or seeking registration for new parties.

Following press enquiries on the reported registration of the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) as a political party, the former Vice President said he would always welcome the expansion of the political space to accommodate all shades of opinions or political hue.

While acknowledging that many of his political associates are involved in registering the PDM, Atiku Abubakar explained that he had no powers to stop adults with common interests from coming together to form a party.

He also noted that many of his political associates are equally members of political parties other than the PDP.

According to him, freedom of association as enshrined in the constitution is the beauty of democracy and that he wouldn’t dissuade any of his followers from seeking a platform to promote their programmes.

Political analysts recalled the active role of the PDM in the country’s democratic transition from the Babangida, Abacha and Abdulsalami administrations.

The PDM platform, which was founded by late General Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, provided the impetus for his impressive performance across the country during the September 1992 presidential primaries, which were later cancelled by the military regime.

The late Gen. Yar’Adua came close to becoming President, thanks to the formidable PDM structure. In 1999, the PDM was also in the forefront in the emergence of former President Obasanjo as PDP presidential candidate.

Political observers also noted that the choice of Atiku Abubakar as running mate to Obasanjo in 1999 was a recognition of the active role of the PDM platform in his victory.
