PoliticsMr. President - Trashing The Confab Report Is A BIG Mistake by Amitex(op): 12:47pm On May 29, 2016
As long as Buhari continues to treat the National conference report as a trash, he will continue to have issues ruling Nigeria. That report represented a fair deal for all Nigerians. Only fools will believe that the present arrangement is sustainable. In addition to the issues of Boko Haram, we now have the Niger Delta Avengers. Who knows what next. All these agitations could have been assuaged by simply revisiting the conference report. It is therefore saddening to hear the president say that the Confab Report is trash. He even made an unsavoury comment of calling the exercise a waste of government funds.

It is appalling that Buhari seems to know Nigeria better than the over "492 delegates that represented a cross-section of Nigerians including the professional bodies group". Buhari alone seems to be more intelligent than retired Chief Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi (rtd), Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi and Dr Valerie Azinge. He appears to have better solution to Nigeria's structural imbalance than members of the Devolution of Power Committee, Political Restructuring and Forms of Government National Security; Environment; Politics and Governance; Law, Judiciary,Human Rights and Legal Reform, Social Welfare; Transportation; Agriculture; Society, Labour and Sports; Public Service; Electoral Matters, Foreign Policy and Diaspora Matters, Land Tenure Matters and National Boundary. Trade and Investment Committee, Energy; Religion; Public Finance and Revenue Generation, Science, Technology and Development Immigration. These committees had representations from the six geographical zones of Nigeria. Unfortunately, our president who is "Mr. Know it all" sees the Confab report more of a Jonathan document than a Nigerian document.

Mr President seems to know better than all Nigerians who hailed the far-reaching decisions of the conference. Unfortunately, because of Mr President's "I Too Know (ITK)" disposition, he wasted time in appointing Ministers. The ITK held him from listening to economic advises on forex management, the ITK held him from from reasoning on the dialogue option on Niger-Delta issue. This ITK is Buhari's biggest undoing and it is the biggest problem that Nigeria currently have!! I rest my case.

PoliticsRe: Would Gej (goodluck Ebele Jonathan) Do Better? by Amitex(m): 6:57am On May 17, 2016
Op, you write with a passion that is misplaced. First, are you aware that this year is a census year? Buhari has no plans for it. Another first since independence. If GEJ was there by now the whole world would be hearing your curses that he does not want to conduct census.

You lot keep accusing GEJ of not saving but you are blind to the fact that Amaechi, Fashola, Fayemi, Oshomole and other APC governors went to as far as Supreme court to stop the Sovereign Wealth Fund. The savings there as at 2010 was shared courtesy of your masters now ministers in APC.

GEJ conducted two general elections, procured all new electronic devices for improved voting system including card readers. For the first time in Nigeria, people were issued with electronic data cards for voting. What improvement have we made since he left office? None, rather we have inconclusiveness.

All the arms and ammunition soldiers have been using to fight Boko Haram since Buhari took over were procured by Jonathan or have soldiers been fighting with bows and arrows? Have you asked Buhari how much he has paid for arms since taking office?

All the refineries started working for the first time in more than 30 years. Did you ask how much Buhari invested in TAM for those refineries? OK, it is Buhari body language! Where was the body language when he was PTF chairman? It is in record that we began massive fuel importation during that time! Oh, you missed that!

Electricity generation peaked at about 5000MW before GEJ handed over. What is it today? Have you checked to see why we now have near zero MW? What additional value has this government added to electricity generation?

Before GEJ, privatisation of PHCN was no go area. OBJ could not muster the courage to venture into it. Do you know how much was involved in ensuring full privatisation of that sector? Do you know the challenges that were involved? Thought Buhari promised to reverse it to bureaucratic PHCN era.

Oil production have fallen to a record low in the last 25 years. Was it GEJ that made it impossible for a sitting president to manage simple crisis in that sector? OK, GEJ created NDA. Have you heard of any patient cutting of his life support and still survive?

Dollar scarcity and pressure on the Naira was also caused by GEJ? When Buhari closed all banks and shut down all avenues to receive dollars what were you expecting? You do not eat your cake and have it! When you isolate yourself, people will isolate you. That singular act shot the exchange rate to over N400. You and I know that in Nigeria, what goes up hardly come down. GEJ caused that also!

GEJ delayed appointment of Ministers thereby creating economic uncertainty for six months, GEJ delayed budgets, padded the budget, and created fuel scarcity. It was GEJ that armed the Fulani herdsmen, created tribal hatred as seen today. GEJ also has made APC to forget their promises of ELDORALDO.

What about the gains recorded in agriculture? Thought Buhari recommended Adesina to ADB for job well done. Where are on the job well done now? Food scarcity. We have suddenly moved from surplus good to food scarcity in less than a year. Caused by GEJ.

Like I said earlier your passion is misplaced. Thank God Saharareporters.com have provided you the ministers' phone numbers. Call Amaechi, Fashola, Fayemi, etc and ask them their role in sharing excess crude savings and stop blaming Jonathan.

Finally, my friend PDP inherited about $80 Billion foreign debt. About a qtr of annual budget was earmarked for debt servicing, not repayment. Price of oil was $9 per barrel, and external reserve was $3Billion. In contrast Buhari and APC inherited debt of $8 Billions (mere 10% of what PDP got). Oil price of $50 (7 times what PDP got) and external reserve of $30 Billion plus $5billion from NLNG and $3Billion in SWF, making $38Billion (13 times what PDP got). My friend, tell your APC masters to go to work. The Bible says "he who puts his hands on the plow and looks back is not worthy of his calling" Face forward and provide governance and stop looking onto Jonathan. He has played his part, do yours!

Perhaps you thought governance na beans! grin

At least about $25m of the estimated $30m diaspora funds will be held back until government fully devalue the Naira. Some people I know only exchange their $ by proxy, that is pay black market value into my account and I will pay dollars into your foreign account. Who will send his $ through Western Union and be paid N197 when we all know it is upwards of N345 in black market? Patriotism is not stupidity!!!

APC have put Nigerians in a vicious circle. Increase price, Dollar depreciates, then prices are increased again and dollars depreciate again until God knows when. This government is indeed led by Economic Oafs!

PoliticsIncrease In Minimum Wage - How Feasible? by Amitex(op): 10:35pm On May 14, 2016
For all those advocating for increase in minimum wage, how will states that cannot pay N18k be able to afford N56k?

Buhari's inaction and pretence put pressure on the Naira and exercebatated the current economic quagmire. He thought this is 1983, when people were hoarding dollars in their bedrooms hence his clamp down on banks accepting or paying dollars even into dom accounts. He failed to realise that the world do not carry cash any longer. That singular act killed Naira. By the time he woke up from his day-dreams, Dollar was already approaching N450 in the parallel market.

Again, I am at loss as to why Buhari made lawyers his economic leaders! Osinbajo and Udo-Udoma are both economic illiterates. Even the minister of Finance has not shown any economic smartness. Why work under someone who will not listen to you?

Instead of taking pragmatic steps to right the wrongs, they were masturbating, telling us how Yuan would delete the already wide gap between official and parallel market rates. Even now, they are still deceiving themselves thinking they are deceiving the masses by creating three exchange rates (#199 official; #298 Petroleum importers and #370 for other importers).

Oga Buhari please Kontunue!!!

Jasper Azualatam wrote:

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT DID NOT REMOVE SUBSIDY BECAUSE THERE IS NO SUBSIDY AT #86.5 PUMP PRICE OF FUEL

Before you go to protest against the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, be informed that the government did not remove any subsidy because there was no subsidy to be removed in the first place! So don't go and protest against what does not exist. Seek information and be informed.

This is what the government has done. The government has simply stopped giving foreign exchange to fuel importers and has asked them to source for foreign exchange through secondary sources.
Why has the pump price of fuel increased from #86.5 to between #135 and #145? This is specifically as a result of the difrence between the official exchange rate and the informal (parallel) market exchange rate. This is the simple mathematics.
The official exchange rate is #199 per dollar while the parallel market exchange rate is #320 per dollar. This represents and increase of 37% (320-199/320 × 100 = 37.8%). This reflected exactly in the new price of petrol as it increased from #86.5 to an averag of #140 which is an increase of 38% (140 - 86.5/140 ×100 = 38%).

There may be a gap in the dissemination of information to the public and it is totally regrettable and I am sure it will be taken care of, but I encourage Nigeians to seek the right information.
I have always insisted that there was nothing like fuel subsidy and I stand by that. The Federal government cannot continue to be the sole source of foreign exchange for the importation of fuel in the face of falling price of crude resulting in the depletion of our foreign reserve. It unsustainable and cannot satisfy the domestic consumption of fuel in Nigeria.

Nigeria gets foreign currency from the sell of crude and the price of crude has fallen by over 70%. This means that the government no long has enough dollars to give to fuel importers. A lame man shoud be able to understand this.

With the competition that will set in from the open market, it s expected that the pump price of fuel will naturally crash in time.

Please share and enlighten every Nigerian.

Jasper Azuatalam
Oga Jasper, your math is very SORRY. Please, go and ask for refunds.

This should have read:

"The official exchange rate is #199 per dollar while the parallel market exchange rate is #320 per dollar. This represents and increase of 61% (320-199/199 × 100 = 60.8%). This reflected exactly in the new price of petrol as it increased from #86.5 to an average of #145 which is an increase of 38% (145 - 86.5/86.5 ×100 = 67.6%)". The increase was 68% and not 38% as you are telling us.

To the topic, you are talking nonsense because subsidy has always resulted from the value of Naira versus $$. The government created the widest dual exchange rate on earth from inception. If they allowed $$ to take its proper value all the while, you would not have created a situation where u have a gap of 68%. Have you asked yourself in which economy world over operate a wide exchange difference of about 68%?

Please, stop trying to justify incompetence, mediocrity and cluelessness in governance!

The tale of two subsidy removal:
Subsidy removal under Jonathan was meant to cover up 2 trillion scam;
but subsidy removal under Buhari is meant to stop scam and put things right.

[s]Facts:
Subsidy was N673B in 2010....
Suddenly, under d Angel of Corruption in 2011,
Subsidy jumped to N2.19trillion.....How? Explain....

The next move to cover up trillions looted in his first year was "subsidy removal".....Thank God we resisted the move, at least it was not available for him to share it with Dasuki, Diazeni, Bank CEOs, Miliatary service chiefs, eligious thieves across...

That resistance led to Farouk Lawal panel....Farouk was getting too close
to the root of ds scam called subsidy through NNPC...
Then the need to use greed as a bait to halt d panel.
Otedola, a private citizen, had all money used to bribe Farouk marked, and also recorded the scene...Simple FG was involved..
So Farouk the greedy guy fell for it. But instead of picking up Farouk, the entire panel and their findings went with it...

Five years of oil boom, they can't build one refinery, yet shut down the available 3 refineries
so as to share more loot via "inflated imported figures"...
That was the real issue then...

The real issue now is obvious: We can't afford it again.
PMB is dealing with the corruption the hero instituted,
You don't have to like his face, or who has not been picked up in APC.
What you still can't deny is that those picked up have not denied it...
Just within 12 months under PMB, efcc has recovered over N600B...Yea![/s]

Within 7 months, Kachikwu has shown us that those refineries can work, just within
7 months....
I trust PMB, I trust Kachikwu. I know they will use the money saved from this opportunity
to revive and build local refineries...
Then, there will be no need to import again, then the price will surely be cheaper...

Deal with it, if you don't like his gut, wait till 2019.
Well, if PMB messes up, I will also join you to wail against him in 2019..
But your fear is that Nigeria will eventually work under PMB without your support...

Actually, Nigeria will work effectively in the days to come under PMB despite your hatred....
#iStandWithBuhari on #SubsidyRemoval
Op on the bolded portion, can you tell me what companies Buhari contracted to refurbish the refineries and how much he and Kachikwu paid?? I need facts, not fiction...

Then, Op see how hypocrisy has blinded youhuh In December 2014, you wrote this ...

dmighty:
This is simple enough. If your child is collecting #5, because transportation fair is high due to high cost of fuel, then why should he still insist on collecting same amount when fuel price has reduced, and drivers have reduced their price?

If Nigeria government claims to be paying x amount as subsidy when crude oil is sold for $100, they still claim same amount when it went up to $107. Why should d subsidy price still be at constant x, when d price is now $70?

You see How corruption disables human brain? If there is a change on crude oil price, common sense dictates that the subsidy price also should reduce this time around.

Crude oil price is falling, fuel price is constant, subsidy money is constant, therefore corruption is still constant. Corrupt leaders and their cabinets can not think smart and straight. Nigerians, stop corrupt leaders, before they stop d future!
Question is if oil is now selling for less than $42, what justification does Buhari have to increase fuel price going by your myopic analysis above?? Except HYPOCRISY!!!

I do not argue with hearsay, myopic, and loose opinionated ramblers. How do you justify your numbers you are bandying about?
A man told you that he wants to remove subsidy to eliminate corruption in the system, you took to the street with your "rocket science leaders" shouting, that there was nothing like subsidy. Even your messiah Buhari argued that subsidy was alien and a means of corruptly enriching Jonathan and his cronies. None of you were sensible enough to know that if a process is generating corruption, the best way to eliminate the corruption was to do away with the system. You accused Jonathan to have intended to cover N2,19T subsidy fraud (hearsay) by removing subsidy. How senseless can anyone be that thinks this way??

You complained that subsidy was breeding corruption, then the government decided to eliminate the source of corruption, you went to the streets to protest that the subsidy (corruption breeder) should remain.
