What is the Odometer reading? |
Lagos (CNN) By Stephanie Busari, CNN and Kevin Asaju for CNN It was supposed to be a rallying cry for unity in a nation deep in recession crisis. However the launch of President Buhari's 'Change Begins With Me' campaign quickly went south as Nigerians took to Twitter to vent their frustrations against his government. During a national address on Thursday, the president said: "The campaign principle is simple, each of us must live the change we want to see in our society." He added: "Before you ask, 'where is the change they promised us,' you must first ask, 'how far have I changed my ways." Angry Nigerians poured scorn on the initiative. Some felt the sentiment was tone deaf and failed to address the myriad problems Nigerians face on a daily basis. Top of that list is an economy in freefall and mass youth unemployment. Last month, Nigeria's second quarter GDP fell by more than two percent compared to last year, after slipping by 0.4% in the first quarter. Two consecutive quarters of decline mean Nigeria has now slid into recession. While he has been tough on corruption, Nigerians feel his authoritarian approach is out of touch when he needs to inspire hope for better times. Many used the #changebeginswithme hash tag to let the president know he has failed in his earlier promise to deliver change Buhari also recently launched a "War Against Indiscipline" -- one of his flagship schemes when he was first in power more than 30 years ago. http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/10/africa/nigerians-change-begins-with-me/index.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_latest+%28RSS%3A+CNN+-+Most+Recent%29 |
skimmy005:If you continue this your lies, you may end up a failure. First Pastor Ize Iyamu has been ordained a Parish Pastor of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Upper Room Parish, Benin as far back as 1998 when I joined the church as an ordinary member. He was ordained a Pastor by Pastor E. A. Adeboye. Say what you know. Politics is not all about lies!!! |
semasir:Above is the reason NPL is not exciting. Why home teams never lose is baffling ![]() |
PassingShot:On the bolded. If within five months of Buhari ascending the office of president states owed six months, then Jonathan contribution was just one month. Buhari only disbursed funds he received from Jonathan to the states. If Buhari leaves today, what will he leave for his successor? A RECESSION!!! |
todayboy:So, you are so proud that a thriving economy handed to Buhari can be so battered in 15 months. I thought Buhari was the messiah you preached about. If it takes APC 15 months to destroy a thriving economy, I am wondering how long it will take to rebuild it Living in denial is the greatest firm of STUPIDITY!!! |
They keep talking of oil prices. I thought the budget benchmark was $38 while oil has been selling at above $45? What is happening to the excess crude proceed for the past 15 months? If oil was below $38, we can understand not the other way round. Again where are all the billions and Trillions recovered, what about all the savings from TSA, ghost workers, tax proceeds, Customs receipt etc? Something is not adding up!!! |
soulpeppersoup:Actually, Lagos is the biggest slum in the world. With VI as the most expensive slum. No planning, no good infrastructure, just two track/Lane roads and people are celebrating such mediocrity. If you navigate off the "expressway" you will know that it is just charade and a dirty dingy. Only if they left the shores of Nigeria. I weep for my country!!! |
Op, Thank you for your piece. Perhaps you did not realise that Buhari ordered banks not to buy or sell nor receive forex because he wanted to "catch" dollar thieves. Buhari tried to-enact his 1984 policy where banks were ordered not to accept deposits and went ahead to change the currency. Unfortunately, Buhari did not realise that in 2015, transactions have gone digital. Those who had stolen money were not holding them in cash. That policy alone killed Naira. For upto six months forex transactions were stalled with no policy thrust. Some of us argued that the policy was suffocating the national currency but Zombie called us wailers and losers. Today, they blame PDP!! |
Did I hear a "great man of God"? Sorry, we have a GREAT GOD and mere men, whose fleeting breath can be extinguished in seconds. |
FastShipping:The bulk stops on Adeosun desk. Forget others, the Minister of Finance charts the course and others follow. Who was budget minister under Obj, Yaradua, Jonathon? Do you remember them? Yet you recall who was Finance Minister. That Adeosun woman is a rookie Accountant. In saner climes she would only pass for a Finance Manager, but Amosun imposed her on Buhari to spite Tinubu. As for CBN governor, I have consistently argued that Buhari handicapped Emefiele by his arrogance on taking in advices on foreign exchange management. We are all in this shit, but some are in bigger shit because they are too sentimental or are still in denials. APC has failed woefully and should admit it and seek help. |
Emycord:OP, can you relate with the above comment ![]() |
Anyone who still vote for APC in this economy recession is slowpoke and deserve to be shipped to Venezuela as modern day slaves. |
ViktorMartins:It is the way of propagandist. They masturate and overhype irrelevant things. The China Yuan story and hope comes to mind. Empty barrels are the noisiest. |
Why call them touts? If na Saraki they stoned, you would have called the " freedom fighters". This is the CHANGE!!! |
Since Idris helped Buhari and APC to produce the Kano over 2miilion votes in 2015, he is no longer corrupt. This is the CHANGE, if you do not like it, relocate to another country. |
How much?? |
Et tu Sanusi!! What has come over the son of Muhammadu Sunusi? Is Lamido Sanusi also among the "Wailers"? ![]() |
lordkhalifa:True talk my brother, afterall both countries are FANTASTICALLY CORRUPT and home to Islamic terrorists. |
What is Middle Belt? Middle belt of what? You guys better identify yourselves first before seeking national or regional recognition. A people should have a clear identify. Hausa-fulanis (Arewa), Igbos (Ndigbo), Yorubas (Odua), Ijaws, Ibibios, Edos, etc. What constitutes Middle belt? If Nigeria was to cease being a country, will you remain Middle belt or bottom or top belt? Please find identify for yourselves first. As it is today the so called middle belt is skin to a "bat". |
The PDP members in NASS need to scuttle this bill "undemocratic bill" as it has a lot of snares embedded in it. It will effectively render NASS USELESS.. If he wants to sell assets, he has the power to follow due process, if he wants to release UBEC funds all he needs to do is to send an amendment to NASS on the extant laws. The procurement process was established to avoid NEPOTISM, SELLING OFF NATIONAL ASSETS TO SELF AND CRONIES, CORRUPTION, ETC. We are in a democracy and we MUST practice it the way it is done everywhere else. You cannot come to the field of play and ask the referee to change the size of the field to suit your capacity. If he was not ready, he should throw in the towel. Being president is not by force. |
Ghandi12:It is called "tough luck" according to Buhari ![]() |
To all those waiting for N-Power jobs. Note that APC us using you. They will resume processing the applications as 2019 elections approach. This is their modus operandi. The same way they treat Okada riders in Lagos. They ban them after elections. Then wait until few months to elections their KAI officials will sort of become unconcerned with Okada riders. Immediately after winning reelection the clamp down resumes. |
Standing5:Who cares about your FTC obsession? Kemi's N400b/400 =$1B. Why the anger? How many of your capital projects are priced in Naira? For your information, I am not hungry neither do I beg to eat. I earn hard currencies, my children attend grade A schools in developed environment and feed and cloth many like you at home. So please be careful who you attempt to insult online because you can buy N200 data on your phone. |
Clipzok:Kemi should just tell us they have released $1Billion instead of quoting big sums in Naira. Anyway, how has this impacted the lives of Nigerians?Where did this money go, hope not ministry of darkness and masquerades?? |
If you cannot make it better, at least leave it the way you met it. APC with all her lies have plunged the nation into an economic abyss and they are still blaming the government that handed over power to them over 16 months ago. Take a good look at the current exchange problem, people advised Buhari to allow forces of demand and supply to determine an appropriate value, he objected and created a gulf between official and parallel market rates. After all trial and error, they came back to their senses, by which time the damage has been done. Again on ND crisis, people advised him to embrace dialogue, he refused. Today NDA are not only bombing pipelines, they are demanding a republic. Again take a close look at the polio issue. The WHO celebrated the fact that Nigeria got it right by eradicating polio. Just Nigeria and Pakistan were the countries still polio prone, yet our leaders dropped the ball. Unfortunately, they do not have a good reason to blame Jonathan now on this. Another area is the area of food sufficiency, the government of Jonathan made a huge success at empowering farmers with direct supply of seedlings, fertilisers, and other implement, today the miidle-man is back. They now blame food scarcity on insurgency. If for six years of of Boko Haram we were feeding well, what happened suddenly after the sect have been defeated to create food scarcity? APC is a huge failure!!! |
APC should publish a book with this title " HOW TO CHASE SHADOWS" |
Contact17:I am hesitant in wishing you half of what those girls have suffered for this your insensitive comment. Imagine you were the one kidnapped for two years, left at the mercy of terrorism would you have opportunities to comment on NL? Imagine you were married off to killers and raped continuously, would you be asking your useless questions? Do you truly believe that you are smarter than all of those girls if you were given same opportunity in life? Government is a continuum. If Buhari was not ready, why seek office? In government, you inherit both assets and liabilities. If you inherited TSA, you should also accept responsibility for Boko Haram. |
The presidency should immediately send a bill to the NASS to change our political system to parliamentary system. The Presidential system is for rich countries. Then commence restructuring of the country as documented on the 2014 CONFAB report. As for the present ministers, they should all be sacked. Government should bring in tested hands to manage the already battered economy between now and May 2019. They have shown very poor capacity. Except one or two. We do not need a Senate nor house of representatives. Neither do we need cabinet ministers. Under a parliamentary system, the ministers are appointed from amongst the parliamentarians with a Prime Minister who is head of government. The president should be a figure head chairman of Council of States. This same system should be replicated across the states. Interesting enough our LG is already practising quasi parliamentary system of government as councillors Supervise the different departments. |
Osyabj:Your ranting cannot muster two-third required to change speaker. APC is in government while PDP is in POWER. Please, deal with it. If you do not like it, take Oshomole's advice!!! |
Oga op, how many litres of fuel, diesel, kerosene and gas did you, your wife, children, family and relatives buy during the period you mentioned? If you can calculate, then multiply the quantity (in litres) by N203 per litre (N290-N87). You forgot that the fuel you were buying at N87 was costing government more than that?? You may shout N203?? Yes, I mean N203. Now reason it this way; if today with the current crude price at $40, you are paying N145.00 per litre, then imaging that you would have been paying about N290 per litre when oil was selling for $100. This is simple arithmetic and mental logic. So my friend, each litre you consumed, government was paying about N203.00 for you. There went part of your "concorted" N55 Trillion or so as you stated!!! When they wanted to stop the "waste" in 2012, you lot were dancing "Skelewu" at Ojota defending subsidy payment, you did not realise that government was bearing the cost or rather that you were "consuming your future" Now you are joyfully paying N145 and which may be increased soon to N157 per litre. You better pray that crude price does not rise internationally, because if it rises to say $70, you will pay more than N250 per litre!!So, op this is the reason some of us call you people ZOMBIES, because you just reason one-way. Like Fela said, Zombie way na one-way!!! You can just sit in your room and multiply $ by N400 and present huge numbers and forget to consider other indices just to present high sounding figures to fellow Zombies like you to feast on. Please, use your brain, it is not a mould of EBA!!! |
So, Islam forbids kolanuts yet some Abokis and their Islamic clerics dey chew the thing like there is no tomorrow? No wonder Sekau call all of them "infidels" ![]() |
