I remember critiquing the policy implementation and how it was choking the populace but some political reasons many were jubilating thinking it will give their candidate victory at the polls while discounting the hardship it unleashed on the people. |
Akwa Ibom State election was decided by 3 factors: the urban areas voted LP (Uyo and Eket). Ikot Ekpene and other Annang areas voted APC because of Akpabio. The rural areas voted PDP because of the Governor, his commissioners and party structure. Mark Essien |
Antonio Conte: “You see Chelsea and what happened there and their position, but I don’t consider Chelsea outside [the top-four race]. They have the possibility to win the last 11 or 12 games in a row because the squad is really, really strong." |
As an increasing number of young Nigerians—the “Obi-dient”—gravitated towards the 61-year-old Obi, raising the tantalizing prospect of a breakup of the duopoly which has monopolized power since Nigeria returned to civil rule in 1999, Western media sympathy for Obi (allied with fawning portrayal of his platform) rose in tandem. This was understandable. In Nigerian politics, Obi was the closest thing to a unicorn—an energetic candidate who spoke the language of transparency and good governance and appeared to mean it—and perhaps for the first time in a long while, Nigerians of a certain generation had real hope that governance could be set on a new pedestal. Obi’s political rallies testified to this newfangled buoyancy and bullishness about the country’s prospects, and disillusionment at his failure at the polls has to be set against this specific affective backdrop. But if sympathy for Obi was understandable, that he came up short, a heartbreaking outcome from the perspective of his supporters, was also not unexpected. As a matter of fact, I predicted it. In the first place, the passion of the Obi-dient, pivoting on the cultural influence of the urban educated, entertainers, influencers, celebrities, and assorted agents mobilizing a nascent digital power, could only radiate so far. Structurally, as the Nigerian media goes, so goes its social media. The political map the morning after the election confirms this. Furthermore, and for all his undeniable bond with young people, Obi faced a practically insurmountable challenge to achieving his presidential ambition precisely because of his failure (his part in this is a matter of debate) to forge a coalition with power brokers in the predominantly Muslim north. The choice of Kaduna State-born Datti Baba-Ahmed as his running mate was clearly meant to obviate the disadvantage of not having an agreement with the core north in place, but the founder of the Abuja-based Baze University is more technocrat than pugilist, and his political footprint even at the best of times was always light. Obi’s abysmal numbers across the northern region, where the presidential contest was more or less a two-horse race between Tinubu and Abubakar puts his failure to connect in the region in bold relief. https://www.cfr.org/blog/lagos-new-york-london-echo-chamber |

Liam Twomey: "We saw 2 years Kante can be the best player in the UCL knockout stage. He can be that good, he can be the decisive influence on the biggest matches. if I was another team in this UCL, I wouldn't be overjoyed about the prospect of playing Chelsea with a fit Kante." |

Drone17:Here you go! KOGI STATE GOVERNMENT PRESS STATEMENT PERSONS AND BUSINESSES THAT REJECT OLD NAIRA NOTES WILL BE APPREHENDED AND PROSECUTED 1. We congratulate Nigerians on the historic ruling of the Supreme Court, the highest court in Nigeria, to the effect that both the old and new naira notes remain legal tenders until December 31 , 2023 when the old notes will cease to be legal tender. What this means is that both the old and new naira notes can be accepted for the purpose of transacting business till the end of this year. 2. The reason the Kogi State Government joined other State Governments in the country to pursue the case was to ease the hardship occasioned by the unavailability of the new naira notes, which the court fully granted. 3. It is therefore unacceptable that some persons and businesses will continue to reject the use of the old naira notes, even after the court judgement validating their use. Rejecting the old naira notes is a clear disobedience of the Supreme Court ruling. 4. Anyone who rejects the old naira notes should be reported to security and government authorities for immediate action. Also, banks that refuse to accept old naira deposits shall be sealed as the State Government will not accommodate financial institutions that willfully disobey court orders, moreso, the orders of the highest court in Nigeria. 5. Kogites should note that since the banks are issuing the old naira notes, they are bound to also receive it. We cannot continue to kill our economy after the Supreme Court has granted us freedom. The State Government has therefore set up a high-powered Committee to ensure full adherence and compliance to the ruling of the Supreme Court. 6. Members of the Committee are the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning; Commissioner for Information and Communications; Commissioner for Commerce and Industry; the State Security Adviser and the Managing Director, Kogi Enterprise Development Agency. The Committee is to ensure that our people take full benefits of the Supreme Court ruling on the old naira notes and ease the hardship they have been subjected to by the policy that brought so much hardship to the people. Kingsley Femi Fanwo Hon. Commissioner for Information and Communications 10/03/2023 |
There is more to a striker than scoring goals depending on the structure and tactical demands of a team. In 2012/2013 Bayern treble winning season despite the goalscoring prowess of Mario Gomez, Mario Mandzukic was preferred ahead of him because of the latter's pressing game and involvement in buildup play. |

Gabriel Agbonlahor: “Potter has to go forward now, stick with that team. Mudryk… Sorry, you’ve got to wait your time now. You’d have to stick with Felix, Havertz and Sterling. Give them games after games, and I’m sure that Chelsea will start winning games in the Premier League.” |
Gus Poyet: "I think reverting to a back three suited the players Chelsea have. With both Reece James and Ben Chilwell being fit it makes a massive difference to play that system with these two wing-backs." |
Paul Merson: "Chelsea are starting to look like an interesting unit now. Two back-to-back wins and two clean sheets and all of a sudden, you start to see their potential. I would want Graham Potter to stay with the same team that beat Borussia Dortmund comfortably on Tuesday." |
Chelsea intend to continue spending. Graham Potter is interested in signing a striker in addition to RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku. Chelsea have looked at Victor Osimhen. - @JacobSteinberg |
Simon Phillips @siphillipssport · 17h Two principle interested parties in Alexis Mac Allister are Chelsea and Arsenal. He is expected to leave Brighton in the summer. - @gastonedul via @AlbicelesteTalk |
Frank Leboeuf: “It’s easy to get up for it in the Champions League, what we want to see is that you are at your best in the Premier League now – that’s where we are really going to judge your mentality, team spirit, your commitment. So it’s a big test – you have to win." |
Frank Leboeuf: "Jude Bellingham’s not the priority for me. If you have to spend £120m, I’m sorry, that should not be on Bellingham, that should be on a striker. “Victor Osimhen maybe, Harry Kane if that’s possible. Will he come? That’s another question. We need a real striker." |

Kai Havertz on Graham Potter: "He's a big manager. In the media I cannot believe how many people talk about him. We have 100s of coaches in England that think they know better than him. We know in the changing room he's a big personality and big manager and helps us all a lot." |
Pat Nevin: “Their central defenders didn’t know what to do with Kai Havertz. When he had to be physical, he was more physical. His technique on the ball today was exceptional. I know he’s got that; he is right up there with the best in the business for technique on the ball." |
