MTN own is jux too much after every call I received or make I jux get this very annoying text frm 5040 n 4100 frm safety tips, to fashion tips, health, seeking for a job...... I don't even get excited when I receive SMS cos I knw they are the one.
I heard hackers are responsible for it. That the messages is nt frm our service provider.

S. Leone's Ebola shutdown uncovers 70 dead in capital

Freetown - Sierra Leone wrapped up its 72-hour shutdown on Sunday, with authorities reporting that the action aimed at containing the Ebola epidemic had uncovered up to 70 dead bodies in and around the capital.
Most of the west African country's six million people were confined to their homes for a third straight day, with only essential workers such as health professionals and security forces exempt.
Almost 30 000 volunteers have been going door-to-door to educate locals and hand out soap, in an exercise that was expected to lead to scores more patients and bodies being discovered in homes.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Sarian Kamara revealed that the authorities had received thousands of calls but only a handful of new patients in the Western Area covering Freetown and its surroundings.\


"We were... able to confirm new cases which, had they not been discovered, would have greatly increased transmission," she said.
"Up to this morning, we had 22 new cases. The response from the medical (teams) has improved and the burial teams were able to bury between 60 to 70 corpses over the past two days."
Independent observers have voiced concerns over the quality of advice being given out, deeming the shutdown a "mixed success" and complaining about the poor training of the door-to-door education teams.
Meanwhile aid organisations and medical experts have questioned the feasibility of reaching 1.5 million homes in three days and have argued that confining people to their homes could erode trust between the government and the people.
'Publicity stunt'

Joe Amon, health and human rights director at New York-based advocacy organisation Human Rights Watch, described the shutdown as "more of a publicity stunt than a health intervention".
Kamara said however that the shutdown was "on track" in its objective to get information to the entire population on how to prevent Ebola spreading.
"There has been a total compliance to the order for people to stay at home... which made it possible for campaign teams throughout the country to reach families in their own homes to sensitise them about Ebola," she said.
Ebola fever can fell its victims within days, causing severe muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea and -- in some cases -- unstoppable internal and external bleeding.


The outbreak has killed more than 2 600 people in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone this year, cutting a swathe through entire villages at the epicentre and prompting warnings over possible economic catastrophe.
The widespread fallout from the outbreak was underlined by India's decision Saturday to postpone plans for a summit in New Delhi to be attended by representatives of more than 50 African nations.
The spread of the virus made it "logistically difficult given the public health guidelines to manage" the Third India-Africa Forum Summit, a foreign ministry official said.
In Madrid, officials said a plane was being dispatched to fly a Catholic missionary infected with Ebola home from Sierra Leone.
Brother Manuel Garcia Viejo, 69, director of a hospital in the Sierra Leonean town of Lunsar, is the second Spaniard to contract the virus in the current epidemic.

'Still in denial'
In Liberia, the hardest-hit country with more than 1,450 dead, health officials said action to halt the spread of the disease was being hampered by traditional communities still ignoring advice on staying away from highly infectious dead bodies.
"Some people are still in denial. Because of that they are not listening to the rules," said Gabriel Gorbee Logan , a health officer in Bomi County, northwest of the capital Monrovia.
"And there is still ongoing burial rites -- rituals that citizens are carry out. They're in the habit of bathing dead bodies because tradition demands.


"Religion demands that they need to bathe these dead bodies before calling the health team, and by the time we get there, a couple of people have gotten into contact."
Health authorities have placed tribal and religious leaders at the centre of awareness campaigns, giving them the lead in advising their communities on preventing Ebola's spread.
"The people trained us not to bathe bodies, not to play with vomit and not to eat bush meat," said Boakai Sanoe, the imam of a mosque in Dewein district.
"And that's the same thing we're telling our people in the environment -- to avoid all of those things."

Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola,
today September 18th, hosted some Ebola
survivors at his office at the state
Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja. Speaking with
the survivors, the governor commended
them for coming forward to share their
experiences, saying that they are proof that
the disease is not a death sentence.
The survivors in attendance included the
widow of late Port Harcourt doctor, Dr
Emenuo Kelechi (left), Dr Ibeawuchi Morris
(second left), Dr Fadipe Akinniyi (centre),
Mr. Dennis Akagha (late Nurse Justina
Ejelonu's fiance) and Dr Adaora Igonoh.

While sharing their experiences, one of the
survivors and staff of First Consultant
Hospital, Dr. Ibeabuchi Morris, said he was
the first to receive late Sawyer at the
hospital where he was first treated for
Malaria.
He said after the patient continued to have
high temperature, he took the blood sample
and sent it to the laboratory, then contacted
Dr. Stella Adadevoh who advised him to
continue attending to the patient pending
the arrival of the test result. He said when
the blood result arrived it was confirmed
that he was EVD positive. Sawyer died a few
days later.
Dr. Ibeabuchi disclosed that he started
manifesting symptoms of the disease 12
days later as his body temperature
continued to rise beyond 38.5 degrees
Celsius. He said when his condition
continued to degenerate, he reported to the
Lagos State Ministry of Health and was
advised to restrict his contact with
members of his family.
According to him, his body temperature got
to an all time high of over 40 degrees at
which point the Medical team from Lagos
State came and took him to the isolation
centre after decontaminating his house. He
thanked the Lagos State Government and
all the other agencies and individuals who
took care of him and made it possible for
him to survive.
Another survivor, Dr. Adaora Igonoh,
thanked the Lagos State Governor and the
Government for their dedication in the
battle to contain the spread of the disease
which, according to her, made it possible
for some victims, including herself to
survive the virus.
Dr. Igonoh, who is also a staff of First
Consultants Hospital, commended the
hospital and the staff for the risk they took
to ensure that the disease did not spread
beyond the limit it did. She also paid tribute
to those who lost their lives, adding that
without their sacrifice, the story would
probably have been different.
Also giving his testimony, Mr. Dennis
Akagha, fiancee to Justina Akagha, a
nursing staff of First Consultants Hospital
who died days after attending to Patrick
Sawyer, said he got to hear about his
fiancee's contact with Sawyer when the
death of the Liberian was announced on
television. She later told him she'd treated
Sawyer.
He said when the symptoms of the disease
started manifesting in Justina, they first
thought it was pregnancy induced or
Malaria because she'd told him she wore
protective gloves while attending to Sawyer.
He said that on the 14th day, Justina's
condition worsened and he took her to First
Consultants from where he was directed to
the Isolation Centre in Yaba where she later
passed on.
He disclosed that he did not immediately go
to hospital when he started manifesting the
symptoms until he started vomiting and
feeling dehydrated. He said he was finally
taken to the Isolation Centre where he was
treated and discharged after he tested
negative of the virus.
Other survivors who gave testimonies were
Dr. Fadipe Akinniyi, also a staff of First
Consultants Hospital and Dr. (Mrs.) Kelechi
Emenuo, wife of late Dr. Emenuo, who
treated one of Mr. Sawyer’s companions in
Port Harcourt and later died of the disease.

In an unprecedented move, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday personally defended the decision of the federal government to allow schools re-open on September 22, saying saying there was no longer any case of Ebola Virus disease in the country to warrant extension of the holiday.
President Jonathan who spoke to State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said the disease had been effectively contained in the country and allowing schools to remain closed would be sending a wrong message to the international community about the situation in the country.
President Jonathan’s interactioin with state House Correspondents is a rare encounter between him and official reporters of the presidency.
Speaking further on the need for the NUT to shelve their planned strike, President Jonathan said; “Presently, there is no Ebola case in Nigeria; nobody in Nigeria has the disease now.
“Most of the people who came down with the disease have recovered. Out of the 19, we lost seven and the others have recovered, although there a few people we are still observing.
“I am not saying we may not record Ebola case again. As long as the disease is still in the West Coast – Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone, the likelihood that a character like the Late Sawyer may come in through one way or the other is there.
“But government is also very mindful of that. Presently our air and sea ports as well as land border posts are properly protected.
“If Sawyer were to arrive the country now, no Nigerian would contact the virus because of the level of preparation.’’
He added that those calling for extension of the holiday were ignorant of the wrong signals it would send to the international community about the Ebola situation in the country.
“If you are a Nigerian today and you travel to some countries, they don’t even want you to enter the countries.
“Our athletes were segregated in China, they had to return back. In China they are even asking ministers of the Federal Republic to show proof of being free of the disease, and this is quite discouraging.
“What people don’t know is that as long as you close your institutions because of Ebola, the ambassadors from various countries that are here with us and the high commissioners send dispatches weekly or monthly to their home countries about what is happening in Nigeria.
“As long as we Nigerians close our public institutions because of Ebola, the dispatches that go out to the rest of the world is that Ebola is a problem in Nigeria.
“As long as we declare Ebola a problem in Nigeria, any Nigerian that travels out will be treated as somebody with Ebola.
“We’ve been able to manage the disease and the whole world is happy with us, and we must tell the world that we have managed Ebola and no Nigerian should be segregated because of Ebola.
“If NUT wants Nigeria to close schools until December, then invariably they are saying that until December Nigerians should be discriminated against.’’
Jonathan described the NUT’s threat as unnecessary and uncalled.
He gave credit to all Nigerians for their cooperation and support to government in the effective management of the situation.
He commended the governors of Lagos and Rivers Rivers state where cases of the disease were recorded for their cooperation with the federal government
in containing the virus.
