@ancienttimes. Yeah, the promo is on, you get 50usd in free adverts from Amazon, it will end by the end of this year tho. However, you will need to register a seller account with Amazon.com, but you cannot have a seller-central account as a Nigerian.

I sent an email that I am only interested in the sponsored adverts and I am not selling, but they said NO! In my case however, I happen not to be in Nigeria and the country I am in, is allowed to have an Amazon seller account. Again, I mailed them and they replied this time around, that it doesn't matter if I already have createspace, kdp or amazon.com account with my Nigerian details, and that I can still register on seller central with my foreign details.

I just wanted to share this, so that people will realize this. With time, as I stabilize in this thing, I will share my niche information with the group. I really don't have a proven strategy yet. There isn't really nothing to be proud of that much. But if it will inspire ancienttimes, I made 800 from one book this December. But guess what? I have some bad reviews (which were not related to the actual quality of the books) and I will consider myself lucky if I can make 1\4 of that in subsequent months. But I am not giving up, I will keep expanding. In my view, 2 successful books might be enough to get you there. The focus must always be on quality.

I would like to know how to design a cover for createspace.

I will however encourage to always turn off your guide after making the Cover. If not createspace will not accept it. Turning off guide means hiding the creastpace template that you got from createspace. Don't let any of your images or text overlap. That is just a little tip on that. I know that many of the gurus in the house use photoshop and other advance softwares for designing their books but I use word 2013.


Let me summarize to you what I did.

1) go to create, generate your cover template and insert the now of page of your document, select white paper, and then the book size. Either 6 × 9 or 5×9 then click on build. Download it as a zip file.
2) unzip it and then make sure that you take out the png createspace template. Now go to Microsoft Word use 2013. Then page set up, for a book of 5×8 you will have to add the spine and 0.125 to each edges. For this book it will be 5+0.125 (top edge) + 5+0.125 (bottom edge) +spine. To calculate your spine multiple number of page count in Word by paper type. For white paper, 0.02252 by page count. For cream paper, multiply 0.025 by page count. For our books that has a 180 pages, we will says 180 ×0.002252 =0.42 I round of the last figures. After doing that, add all the spine. You will 5+5+0.125+0.125+0.125(spine) = 10.66. That is for your weight. Your height will be 0.125+8= 8.25. When you do that, you will notice that you have 10.66×8.25. Now go to word page set up and height put 8.25. In your weight column put 10.66. Let all your margins be zero. When you do that, Microsoft Word will give you a warning. Click ignore. Note: don't copy and paste pictures but under them directly. Besides, make sure you check on the donot compress image file in Word for maximum image quality. After doing that, go to usert, look for your createsoace template and insert it. From my experience using word 2013, I noticed that the template fill up my entire blank word document which is perfect. But if it doesnt, resize it and make sure it fills the entire word document.
3) insert picture for your cover, on the right side of the other half of the template and resize it until it to touches the other line of the cover, which is the spine. Then insert another picture and put it behind the picture on your right. If you don't that, the pictures will overlap, and creastpace will reject it. To do that, right click on the picture you just inserted and you will see bring to front, or send to back. Select send backwards. Then drag the picture to the left side of your template until it fills it. For your spine, insert another picture again, and put it behind the picture on your right. Drag it until it fills the spine.
4) It is more easier if you have already designed a cover for your kindle. You will just take the text and put them there. Make sure that your text are all to the left hands side. Your title, your author name and the rest.
5) Then for your spine text. I use the same text for my author title and author name. All your text must be in text box for easy manipulation.
NOTE: IF Your title is long, Like Gardening Skills: Your complete guide to effective Home Gardening. The text will be too long on the spine, so just use the main title. Gardening Skills. Then your author name will follow it. I normally copy and paste my main text, reduce the font to let say 14. Click on rotate, and I take it and turn it until it is 90 degrees. I do the Same for the author name.
6) for your back text, use the blurb you had written for your kindle and draw a text and paste it there. I normally make mine a little hit fancy.
7) when you look to your right, and you will see a selection pane there. Look for your main picture, which will be the template, it is normally picture one since that is the picture that was first inserted in Word. Click on the small eye sign to hide. Once you do that, your guide is turn off.
Save as pdf and submit it to creastpace.

But for better quality, I suggest you look for a software like Adobe pdf or any other type of pdf. Click on file, print. In the printer option, you will see a printer then click on it and change it to Adobe or Foxit or any other pdf that you have. Click on print. It will give you a save as option. Click save and it will create a pdf for you. Upload it to createspace.

This may sound a little bit though, but if you follow the link that I gave you, you will get it. It took me weeks of practicing to perfect it. And I cN assure you that my covers are not bad at all..

Bro, I won't lie to you, it is good if you can learn how to make this cover yourself. You will be more effective in this business if you learn how to cut down cut of publication. There are alot of videos on YouTube. Besides, you can just decide to give it a try. But if you can't, there are a lot of online sites to do it for you.

Lol bro @ the scary aspect of it. I guess it's because you converted the figures to Naira. In reality $1000 is meager compared to the potential that I see with online publishing. My goal is to earn $3-$4k dollars monthly. I know it's a tough call but it's a dream I have to achieve in 2 years time.

And yes, God is blessing the works of my hands, just like He blesses all hardwork. The Bible says that in all labor there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads to poverty. Just keep on producing books, you will get better with time and eventually find your area of strenght.

Like I keep saying here, some of your books will not sell. Just keep writing. I have books that do not sell at all. In fact, of all my 25 books, only 2 make the most sales. For instance, one of the books has sold over $400 income this month. Imagine that I stopped writing after my first 5 books because they werent selling. Just think about that.

So bro, keep writing. Keep publishing. Dont stop writing. You'll make mistakes. But try to publish at least every week or every two weeks.

Here's the screenshot you asked for. Add that with $290 in createspace and expected income from KENP reads which is around 25,000 reads.

Wow sis. I love good news like this. Indeed, I was wrong about Okada. Thanks for proving me wrong. It's good for one to stick to his/her convictions and test them out before making conclusions. When I went into Kindle and Createspace publishing some old timers told me my books would not sell until I remove my name from them and use a pen name and also write on hot selling niches. I believe they are right but I just had to get started and test things myself.

I got confused trying to find a niche to write on. But something...that inner voice ...kept telling me to start with what I know. So I started writing on Prayer and using my real names. I'm glad it has paid off. November alone I made over $1000 and this December I have crossed $1,300 in sales alone. In fact, two of my books have been classified by amazon as Bestsellers. While the cash is small, its not bad for me as a Nigerian just getting started and less than 6 months old.

So you see, its good for one to stick with what the inner voice tells him/her despite what other well-meaning folks advice.

Now that I have gained considerable experience I can now branch out to other niches, which is what 2017 will be for me.

Thanks once again for this life lesson you have reminded me again. Maybe sometime later I will also try Okada. Afterall I take okada almost everyday in Nigeria (lol)

Good news...

I just withdrew my first 10k from "O k a d a b o o k s...." it feels great lol. Before I earned 5k from Amazon I see weeehnnn. Published on Saturday 17 Nov. and by Nov. 27 and made good sales even after they took the 3o per cent per copy.

I would love to rave more on this but last time I did I got "b a n n e d" for 72 hours lol...not nice.

Pls where are you putting these keywords? Thats what determines. If it is to be the title or sub title of your book, then only use keywords that eventually makes meaning and readable. But if it is on the keyword supply area that amazon requires while trying to publish your books, then it doesnt matter what you type there.

Yes, I put readable keyword in title and sub title. However, I combine them in the keywords field. However, I was wondering, I tried combine more keywords for the purposes of having more categories but it didn't work for me..

Just one quick word, I need explanation on Key. Can I combine two keys in some single space. Like if I have Visions of Glory and Heaven Joy as keys that I want to use. Then I combined then in a single keyword space as Visions of Glory Heaven Joy. Will. It work?. Thanks for the answer.

It is slowly trickling in. I blessed God. With time, I will reach the top 500 and above. Besides, I don't want to believe that you need more books to sale more on Amazon and make money. With one single quality book, information-packed, good cover, excellent key words, and excellent blurb, you can see sales coming in like waves. Let us emphasize more of quality than quantity

Thank you for your kindest comment. You see I can tell you this requires a lot of hard work. I know how many times I have had to sleep by 12 am, 1 am or above. Why? I have been reading on keyword and doing a lot of resesrch. I want to publish books that will sale, quality books. I have at least achieved some level of experience. I published one of my books today at createspace, from the cover to the interior, everything was done by me. Createspace didn't find issues with it and for thr first time, everything went on smoothly. Yes, my plan is to release my third book by Weekend too. So that on Monday, I will work on the thr cover for creastpace. Well, I also don't want to borfer myself with money, money and money but rather just publishing. I know they will sale. What I need to know more though is keywords both long and short keywords



One day, all this effort will begin to pay off and many will begin to he surprised at the amount of sale and will think that it is just a one day work. But behind the curtains, many years have been invested on this project. Merry Christmas to you and A prosperous New Year.

My experience while publishing kdp and createspace has been very interesting. Currently, I have two books in the system both at createspace and Kdp. Both books were formatted by me from the beginning to the end. I have learnt a lot though, I am still learning till now. I have made two sales so far now. However, I want to write more books, keywords based books. From the beginning, I have one problem, i wanted to make picture books for diet, when I made the book, I uploaded it on the platform and when I did, the book is displayed but the picture has the sign of a Camera without the picture. I was discouraged, but I was pushing for a higher goal. I made alot of research on YouTube. And after many days, I got that when making picture book, you can't have text wrapped around pictures but must be above and below the picture only. So after many days of trying and discouragement i got it. But that was not all. When I released the book, I got a warning from Amazon, that my account will be banned. I contacted MK82 and he told me to re-eidited my work. That was another big discouragement. I edited and got tired. Then I signed on and paid $10 USD for copyscape. When I did, I saw that there was plagiarism content in my book. If I had uploaded it, Amazon will have terminated my account. I check it and re-edited it. I will resound again the wisdom of MK82 when he said, if you are serious about this business, then you need copy scape. Finally, my book was published.


On creastpace, I needed to learn how to make cover and my interior. I search and searched and finally I got a video from a woman in the UK by the name India Drumman and that settled it for me. When I did published my book, I got my cover rejected 3 three times. I got To know that your pictures on create space must never overlap else it will be rejected. Never put spine text on your cover when your interior is less than 101 pages. Make sure to always turn off the guide, before converting your converting to pdf. When you do so, it will be of great help to you. If you don't turn off the guide, I mean the template that you downloaded from createspace, your cover will be rejected. Concerning pictures book on creastpace, make sure you print with a pdf program, I use Foxit reader and I print not create pdf. When I did one, I noticed that printing your documents with the software gives your picture the maximum 300 dpi. To print, go to word, file, print. In the print section, when it shows you your printer, select Foxit reader and click on print. Lastly, before you insert your pictures for print and it will generate a pdf file for you. Make sure that your pictures are 300 DPI and makes sure that you don't resize them in word. Besides that, insert pictures and don't touch them, make sure that they are centered.

Well, I just thought I should drop some thoughts about this eBook stuff.

Writing an eBook and making some money from it makes it looks as if it is unfair to other people who work hard from 8-5 and receive way less than what you earn, while you basically do nothing.

Mk82 has given us all some nice tips about making something from this business but the first thing I want to say is that you should not restrict yourself to ebooks at all. Enter Amazon, browse their book section and you will realize that crazy topics are making big money for people. Mk82 has given you a lead, it is left to you to follow your own path. Cookbooks are good, but come on, their are other stuffs.

I won't say I have made a lot, but I have learnt a lot. The most painful lesson is how some reviews can really screw you up really fast. But we must not relent and we must keep putting more books on the market.

What I would just advice is that we must concentrate on quality. You don't just churn out books because you want to reach certain numbers. Like I said, the reviews will catch up with you. Sometimes, what people will complain about are not your fault. And trust me, it is very painful.

The life of your average author is really sweet. A freelancer or contractor must keep bidding everyday. Your friend that has a job in an oil company must turn up every time. But you can just sit at home, make a list of your schedule, do things at your own pace and still make far more money than all of them. THANK GOD FOR THIS RECESSION. It's kind of not fair! If you ask me.

MK82 has helped solved the problem i was having in loading my manuscripts. Now the book is available in Kindle store.
My book is on Christian religion.
if you are having issues with loading manuscripts with pictures, all you need do is to zip the manuscripts after converting it to HTML, then upload. try it.

Looking for niches can be quite confusing. What I do is simple. I look for books that are selling on any area, and write something similar. You get my drift.

How do you get materials for the books that you seen good niches to write on? I mean the materials on what to write. It is only from Google?

It took me weeks of learning and God helping me for to get to publish my first createspace book. It is a bit complex, from formatting to cover. But if you are serious, go to YouTube, Google formatting books for createspace, then how to make cover for createspace. Some use gimp, others photoshop , but for me I use word to make my covers for create space. Just walk on the one that is good and fitting for you. There is a format that I will recommend for you, by a woman from the UK. Good Tutorial - walking through ghost createspace formating. I think it is simple and one of the best. Download the vidoe and watch it over and over again. And you will be set for everything.

Let me give you a hint on some of the things you need.

First, you need to have copyscape. This will enable you to avoid uploading plagiarism contents. Or look for other alternatives to checking your contents before uploading them to kindle. Plagiarized contents can have you banned from Amazon. Except if your content is original, meaning you wrote it yourself without copying any other thing else. Great, next thing to do is to learning formatting if your book content. For Kindle, your formatting should be done in Word. Then upload your work to kindle. After that then learn how to design a cover, or have someone design it for you. But If you can't do all these things, there are people who will do it for you for a fee online.
Also, check up with create space, format your work, save it in pdf and do a pdf cover so that you can have a paper back or have the book in hard cover. I hope this helps. If you want more, read this entire thread from page now to page 66 and you will see that most of the things that I am telling you has been answered completely.
