The patrol team of 157 Task Force Battalion, 7 Brigade, yesterday ambushed and killed a Boko Haram terrorist spy at Barwati village, Kukawa LGA. The insurgent who was allegedly on a reconnaissance mission to infiltrate the army troops’ position, was killed while trying to gain entry into the military location.

Weapons recovered from him include 1 AK-47 rifle, 59 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, one 40mm x 46mm BGL2 grenade, 1 bandolier and 3 AK-47 rifle magazines from him.

In a bid to curtail the excesses of criminals, Rivers state Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, disclosed that his government was working out ways to create an amnesty programme for cultists and criminals who decide to lay down their
weapons.

The Governor stated this when he hosted the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) led by its President, Igwe Achese at the State Government House, Port Harcourt.

Wike pointed out that his administration intends to make the state safe for investors and is working closely with security agencies to ensure that criminality is stamped out from the oil producing state.

The governor also called on NUPENG to consider strike actions as the last option during industrial disputes so as to avoid delays in providing developments.

“I believe that strikes should serve as a last option for unions during trade disputes. The strikes in Nigeria are getting too many and efforts should be targeted at reducing them.”

'Gunmen suspected to be militants were said to have invaded Igbolomu and Ishawo areas in Ikorodu, Lagos
State. According to eyewitnesses who escaped from one of the invaded areas, the gunmen from the Niger Delta came through water channel and started shooting sporadically. Residents
are already fleeing the area. Eyewitnesses claim corpses littered the ground, adding that more could be in the swamp.Some said that the Ijaw people in the area are the one killing people for giving vital information to law enforcement agents'.

Governor Mimiko has said that the EFCC has no right to freeze
Fayose’s account.

He described the action of the EFCC as an abuse
of the Constitution.

Mimiko who spoke in his
capacity as Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, condemned the freezing of Mr Fayose’ s bank account.

Mr Fayose raised the alarm on Monday that his Zenith Bank account had been frozen by the
EFCC.

The commission also confirmed the development and justified its action. But
Mimiko, who was reacting to the development in a statement in Akure on
Tuesday, said the action of the anti-graft agency had portrayed
the nation as one in crisis.

Mimiko said the EFCC had no power to
interfere with the account of a sitting governor.

He said the action would not find comfort
with the position of Section 308 of the Nigerian Constitution.

According to him, if the intention is to suggest any criminal infraction or fraud against the governor, the agency should have waited until he vacates office.

“What has happened is a blatant and violent infraction on the provision of the Constitution and our democracy, ” Mr. Mimiko said.

“It is an attempt to subvert the constitution and it is fascist. The intention is to achieve a penal sanction without going through the due criminal
procedure and criminal
proceedings.”

Governor Mimiko argued that the essence of
Section 308 of the Constitution of the country was to save
governors in the country from distractions.

“What they have done now is to distract the
Governor of Ekiti and this is not good for our
democracy, ” he said.

According to a source, the governor further argued that immunity
was part of the constitution “which must be respected
whether anybody likes it or not. ”

He also contended that
the EFCC’s action violated Section 96 of the 1999 constitution as amended which confer on every individual the right of fair hearing.

He warned that the country was beginning to manifest the signs of totalitarianism adding that the account of any individual could
only be frozen after a court of competent
jurisdiction had so ruled or an interim order by a
court of competent
jurisdiction was granted to the anti graft agency.

Fayose has however vowed to challenge the
restriction on his account “appropriately.”

Meanwhile, Senator Buruji Kashamu
representing Ogun east
senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti to stop being childish with his
allegations against President Muhammadu
Buhari and his wife, Aisha.

Instead, he urged Fayose to concentrate on defending the
loads of accusations
leveled against him in recent times including
that which led to the freezing of his bank account.

The presidency had also reacted to the allegation against Hajia
Aisha calling him a man childishly obsessed with
the desire to grab the
headlines and insulting people at will because of his incurably boorish instincts.

In a statement by the senator, according to The Eagle Online,
Fayose was asked “to stop the needless
mudslinging against the wife of the president, Mrs Aisha Buhari and face the allegations
against him.”

The Owerri local airport in Imo state also known as the Sam
Mbakwe International
cargo airport, was in shambles after experiencing very heavy rainfall.

According to a Twitter user identified as
Olajide, the airport had a roof that was leaking in several places, causing some of the workers to put buckets to try to catch the pouring rain.

Olajide shared a video of him being accosted
by one of the airport officials who tried to stop him from taking
pictures and recording videos.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has appealed to all Nigerians to support the Federal
government in its fight against terrorism. Jonathan stated this via his twitter handle while condoling with families of the victims of Boko Haram attack in Adamawa state on
Thursday June 17th.

Suspected Boko Haram members stormed a funeral service in Kuda

A 28-year-old student- pastor, Akintunde Olatunde, was today sentenced to three years imprisonment for burglary by an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court in Osun.

The magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, in his judgment, said the convict should be kept behind bars due to the magnitude of his offence.

The prosecutor, Insp. Fagboyinbo Abiodun, had earlier told the court that the convict committed the offence on June 10 at about 5:00 p.m., in Omobolanle area of Osogbo.

Abiodun said the convict conspired with others now at large to break into the apartments and shops in the neighborhood where they carted away some household
and perishable items.

The stolen soup ingredients like pepper, tomatoes, palm oil valued N2,900 and Indomie cartoon.

The suspect also broke into the house of one Afolabi Temitayo and carted away his television, antenna said to value at N1,500 and a bedroom fridge.

He said the accused was a student-pastor
at a prayer ministry in
Osogbo.

Abiodun said that the offence contravened Sections 516, 413, 390, 411 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The convict who had no legal representation pleaded guilty to the 12-count charge preferred against him when his case was called.

The bride-to-be identified only as Olanike was billed to tie the knot with her fiance, Ayebameru the next day but she ended up in the kidnappers den where she cooled her heels for six days when she should have been on her honeymoon.

The wedding had to be put on hold by families of the bride and groom following the ugly incident.

Despite the fact that the news of the abduction of the would-be bride went viral, some relations and well wishers, who were not privy to the ugly incident were taken aback for the wedding. It was gathered that a couple who are members of a gang acted as informants to three other members of the gang, who carried out the nefarious act on the would-be bride, on the eve of the wedding. Police report had it that the bride was abducted in front of her house located at Mama Nigeria street, Ayeka via Okitipupa on a Friday together with her son and taken to an unknown destination until she was rescued a week after. Police source hinted that the bride who had gone for
shopping with her son
in her Space Wagon car ahead of the wedding was double-crossed by
the kidnapper. It was
reported that the groom (Ayebameru Agbeye ) who was informed by the parents of the bride
reported the incident
to the Okitipupa police
divisional station and
was referred to the anti-cult squad of the
state command. The
son and a Mitsubushi
Space Wagon car were
later abandoned by the kidnappers to avoid being traced by security operatives, who were on their trail.

It was gathered that the anti-cult squad of
the Ondo State Police
Command after six
days busted the syndicate and effected
the release of the bride. The wedding according to findings has since been put on hold after the temporary setback.
One of the suspected kidnappers, Phillip Ezekiel, who spoke with police when they were paraded confessed that their leader Ufoma Godwin, coordinated all the activities of the gang.

Godwin is currently hospitalized following
injuries he sustained during a gun battle with detectives.

Despite its huge size, sellers in the informal market lack resources. The challenge for the government is to provide market entrepreneurs with the funding they need to grow a business and enter the organized economy.

Doing so would help Nigeria break its dependence on oil, which currently funds 70% of the government's budget.
