Manchester United Legend Paddy Crerand thoughts on our latest signing Marouane Fellaini.

“I’m delighted United have signed Marouane Fellaini and I think most fans should be too, because the one thing we’ve lacked at Manchester United in the middle of the park is somebody powerful and strong," said Crerand.

"I wouldn’t want [Manchester City’s Yaya] Toure playing against me; abig powerful guy, hard to compete with. We’ve got one of our own now."

Crerand, a midfielder himself in the great United side of the 1960's, has enjoyed watching some strong characters dominate his position in more recent years and he's hoping that Fellaini can follow in their footsteps.

"Down the years, we’ve had some magnificent players in midfield,
like Roy Keane and Bryan Robson. And now, with Fellaini, we’ve got
much more power and strength than we had last year, so I think
he’s a big asset.

"I think he’s a threat around the penalty area. When there are free-
kicks and corner kicks around the box, he’s going to be a big, big
threat. And, every time a ball comes into our defensive area, he’s
going to be a good player to have there as well.

"I think his height and strength could be big factors for us. But I’m
not taking anything away from his [technical] ability either, I think
he’s also a very good footballer.

"I think he’s a very good buy; there are a lot of fans out there
thinking about Ronaldo and Bale and that sort of player, but I think
he’s an important buy for the club. I think United have done a great
bit of business. He wanted to play for the club and that’s a big
thing in itself."

nitlad: Enough of this currency discrepancy wolf-cry jo oga.

Forbes an American firm did their own evluation with the USD, inflation adjusted figures, they still have Madrid on top comfortably.

Even if the revenues are skewed cos of the Euro as you are postulating, Madrid are still an overall more valuable sporting brand than Manure

So much for currency disparity. cheesy
Madrid only became more valuable a few months ago. partly because of our recent poor Champions League display the last 2 seasons . United was standing head and shoulder above Madrid for years. It's pity you had to wait all these years to have the opportunity to gloat about how Madrid is
more valuable than United. lol

And the currency played a huge part on their revenue period.

Inspite of the obese Glazers best efforts, Manure are still perpetually lagging behind Madrid. tongue cheesy
With all things considered (again, currency and individual tv deal ) the Glazers are doing a damn good job.

This is jejune.
No point dwelling on or making forecasts based on what won't happen. The EPL's TV revenue distribution structure will never change, and Madrid will continue to rake in hundreds of millions from TV for the fore-seeable future.
I'm not dwelling on anything, I'm just trying to tell you it didn't take the genius of Perez to earn them so much in tv revenue which ultimately inflated their overall revenue. it was as a result of the tv distribution system in the Spanish league which gave them an unfair advantage over us. had it been a level playing field, your incredible Perez wouldn't be looking that incredible.

Regarding shirt sales. If you had read what I wrote correctly, it would have saved you the stress of surfing through the internet searching for photos to post here. I said Madrid didn't sell more shirts than United which is a fact.

It is clear what your mission is here, even though you'll deny it.the fact that left your own club's blog to come here referring to Manchester United as Manure shows you for what you are.

nitlad: Mi o gbo ri...

Shey na Madrid say make Britain nor dey part of the Eurozone ni?

In the final analysis, Manure's cut of the new improved TV deal, plus your new shirt deal is still short of Madrid's TV deal alone. Not forgetting that they also have a new shirt deal in place which is significantly higher than their previous deal.

Factor in money spinner - CR7 plus Bale's prospects....

Enu e dun....

The gap in revenue is well over €100M mate. Making up for that would mean Manure making all the right business decisions and Madrid relegated to the Segunda Division.

With Perez at the helm, Madrid will keep blooming business-wise.
Britain not being part of the eurozone is not the fault of the Glazers, there's absolutely nothing they can do about that. The fact is, before euros gained so much strength, Man United was at the top in terms of revenue. Madrid only went ahead of us solely because of the swing In currency strength and then their TV deal.

The Glazers have been exceptional for us business wise, they have managed to pull off deals no one else would have been able to pull, not even your darling Perez grin. We have been signing commercial deals left right and centre. They even managed to get us a £20 million a year deal for our training ground and kit(the first in the history of football). Who else would have been able to pull that off, if not the '' business-savvy Glazers''. Trust me we will close In on Madrid financially.

Minus the difference in TV money and you'll see there isn't much difference between the revenue of both clubs. I bet you if United were allowed to negotiate their own TV deal, they would get a deal worth up to £200 million per annum.

They can go ahead and sign all the star players they can find, it won't change much. Even with the Ronaldos, Bale and the rest, they still don't sell more shirts than United, they haven't been to a champions league final for 11 years now. It doesn't bother me one bit what Perez is doing.

Here's what our assistant manager Steve Round has to say about our new signing Marouane Fellaini.

"When David came here he looked at the squad and thought
one of the players we needed to bring in was someone with
those physical attributes in the middle of midfield who could
give us strength and aggression in certain games and maybe
allow one or two of the others to play," Round, who was also
Moyes's assistant at Everton, told the Manchester Evening
News . "That, coupled with his ability to score, made him feel
Marouane would be a really good acquisition for United.
When you get to work with him every day, you get to realise
that technically he is excellent.
"He is a 10 to 15 goals a season man and that is good from
midfield. He can play No4, sat in front of the defence, he can
play an eight in the centre doing box-to-box and can play a
No10 where he drops off the front man. That's valuable when
the range of games is so varied.
"His chest control is arguably one of the best in the world.
You can bang the ball at him from anywhere and he will
bring it down on his chest and bring others into play. His feet
and his technique work are really good. He is aggressive and
tackles. He also has great fitness stats. He will regularly do
over 12k a game and he can run, goodness me he can run.
He is a lot better footballer than he gets credit for and he has
good passing ability."
Round believes Fellaini offers a new dimension to United.
"He doesn't have the same range as a Michael Carrick in his
long passing but his continuity and the way he keeps the ball
and short passing is very good," he said. "When you are
building a squad to compete on all fronts you don't want
every single player to be the same. You want options and
differences. In a certain game it might be Tom Cleverley and
Carrick in midfield, it might be Fellaini and Carrick, or
Fellaini and Anderson. It has given the manager options he
didn't have before.
"Marouane was ready for this step up. He'll fit in well with
the professionalism here and relish the challenge. I am sure
Marouane will settle in very quickly and be an integral part
of United's success in the future, I really do."

nitlad: What are the obese, stroke-stricken Glazers doing, when Florentino Perez and Real Madrid are busy grubbing all the money on the planet?!

I thought these burger-munching Yanks are supposed to be the business-savvy, Benjamin-chasing microcosmic version of the EPL itself.
They are couple of reasons( beyond their control) why Madrid revenue is significantly higher than ours. One of the reasons is because of the weakening of pounds sterling compared to euros. Another reason is because of the individual TV rights in LA liga which earn Madrid about £161 million compared to the collective premier league TV deal which earns us only £60 million. Not to worry though, because our revenue will Increase significantly soon once our new deals kicks In. The new premier league TV deal will earn us an estimated £100 million, plus our new shirt deal which is about £50 a year. Not forgetting the renegotiation of our kit with Nike, which will also bring In a lot of money among other new deals signed recently. We will close the gap on Madrid and perhaps even overtake the within the next few years.

Say what you want about Everton, I don't care as long as we're winning, insists Moyes

David Moyes has launched a staunch defence of his tactics and admitted he 'doesn’t care about criticism' so long as Everton keep winning.

The fallout from the Merseyside derby saw Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and manager Brendan Rodgers comment on Everton’s approach – Gerrard later retracted his words – but this is not the first Moyes has seen his team criticised.

Sir Alex Ferguson also accused Everton of playing long balls on the opening weekend of the campaign but Moyes says he has paid no attention to disparaging remarks. He is thrilled with the way Everton are performing and wants them to continue at Fulham.

Happy to prove people wrong: Everton's manager David Moyes says he will take criticism while Everton are still winning

'I really don't care what people are saying about us,’ said the Scot. ‘We have to keep doing what we are doing, which is getting results. I think people who have watched us will say we're playing really well.

'But more importantly if you ask our fans they'll tell you they're happy with the way we're playing, and ask managers - they'll say they are impressed by what we've achieved. I genuinely don't bother. The facts prove it's not the case (that Everton play long balls).

'I don't actually care how we win so long as we win but we have been doing it in style and I think our football has been outstanding at times, it really has. I watched Chelsea play Bayern Munich in the Champions' League final and they didn't come out at all, they hit it long.

Star signing: Kevin Mirallas has played a key role in Everton's good start to the season

'But they are European champions. That means they played the right way on the night. There are different ways of playing. The most important thing is to win.’

Part of Everton’s transformation this season has stemmed from the outstanding impact Kevin Mirallas has made since his £5million arrival from Olympiakos in August, the Belgian’s pace, dexterity and eye for goal have quickly made him a terrace favourite.

He was outstanding in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool and there is reason to believe Everton would have actually won the Merseyside derby had Mirallas not been forced off at half-time with an ankle problem. Moyes is confident he will be fit to play at Craven Cottage.

'Kevin has gives us another dimension,’ said Moyes, who beat off competition from Porto and Arsenal to sign the 24-year-old.’ I’m surprised, if I'm honest, at how quickly he's settled in, because I was worried at the start of the season he wasn't ready to play 90 minutes in the Premier League.

'Yet he seemed to relish the challenge in the derby and in some of the tough away games we have had there have been real signs. You can see he can be a top, top player. His record of scoring goals is really good too, and I think there is that to come from him.

'Maybe in the second half of the season we'll see that from him. He can play in any of the three positions across the front line. I like that about us: we have some versatility, because (Steven) Pienaar can play in different positions too and we want options and alternatives.

'We want to ensure we are not one-dimensional in games. Kevin is coming to terms with the Premier League now. Every single game here you have to grind out a result. Mybe where he has played before, there have been a few ‘gimmes’ when you can ease off. You can't do that here.’http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2227224/David-Moyes-does-mind-criticism-Everton-winning.html

Fussbot: school me bro..i rili want to know d dfrncs b4 i reply u

even though ur posts shows u are just kagawa fan dat is not ready to see his flaws
Bro I honestly do not have time to type an essay explaining the difference to you. I'll just give you some basics of a winger and leave you to decide whether the players you mentioned play that way or not.

Wingers are normally very pacey players (they have speed) . They mostly hug the touchline then whip in a cross or sqare the ball(although some wingers are played invertedly so they usually cut in to shoot) . They also usually are players with high stamina, because of the running they do back and forth from defence to attack.

I really shouldn't be explaining this to you, you follow a club like United where wingers have always been a huge part of. You have seen the likes of Beckham, Giggs, Valencia, Nani and Ashley Young play. Don't tell me players like Iniesta, Silva, Gotze etc does the same things as the United players I mentioned even when played wide in those diamond-like formations.

I'm a fan of all our players, It is not exclusive to Kagawa. I'm not a blind follower, if I see a flaw in our players I wouldn't hesitate to point it out. Kagawa has played mostly on the left for us(FACT) he's also played on the left for his national team and has done really well. The only flaw I can point out in Kagawa right now is that he is a little too lightweight for the premier league, and that is something he can work on.

Your theory about him not being able to play wide like Gotze, Iniesta and Silva is baseless.

There's a difference between playing as an outright winger and playing wide. None of the players you mentioned play as an outright winger, they play wide in formations like 433, 4231 and the likes, which Kagawa can also do. Infact Kagawa has played more on the left for us than he has played as a No10. That's a fact.

grin grin
Like @ Mr_TA said, stop listening to rumours. Just wait and see what he does. I am sure Moyes did not have any discussion with anyone, telling them how he doesn't care for flair players. Pienaar is a flair player and he was one of the key components of Moyes's team at Everton. As long as players like Nani are disciplined, I see no reason why he wouldn't be an Integral part of our team.

The fact that Moyes gave him that contract means he appreciates his talent and he is ready to give him a chance to prove himself under him, otherwise he would have sold him. According to reports, there were about 5 clubs trying to sign him. If he didn't fancy him he wouldn't have given him a new contract, let alone 5 years.

superstar1: Fabregas has never fulfilled his potential ever since he left Arsenal and he will never, as long as Messi and the evil triad of Xavibusiesta are still busy doing there thing. He will continue to play a second fiddle, even at national team level. His best position as seen when he was in Arsenal is orchestrating play and dropping into the hole in the last third of the opponents half. His false 9 usage now, is more out of necessity to play him and not because of its abilities.
You are absolutely right. Fabregas was one of the best midfielders in the world when he was at Arsenal, he seemed like a player destined for greatness, but now after joining Barcelona he's become just another good player. He will never be that great player many predicted he would become at Barcelona, not while all of the four players you mentioned are still regulars in that team. he won't be more than a fringe player there and ultimately wouldn't be able to fulfill his Initial potential.

coded guy: ^^ if Cesc had come to United, it would have been trouble for Kagawa in the no 10 role. Moyes will always play Cesc before Kagawa.

Even now without Cesc and Rooney he is not getting play time with Moyes saying he has not really seen him play.
Fabregas was to be used as a CM for us. We didn't need him to play as a No10 so he wouldn't have been a direct threat to Kagawa. We turned down the chance to sign both William and Ozil because we weren't looking for a No10. If we were, we could've signed Ozil instead, he's way better than Fabregas in that position.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by AndrERush(m): 8:49am On Sep 05, 2013
debosky: Of course he can, but why would he leave his more advanced position - one in which he's becoming better at - at this stage and come and play CM? Clearly not, plus he thinks Moyes is a w@nker. cheesy

What role does he play at Barca at the moment and in his last 18 months at Arsenal, and why would he change that for y'all?
Cesc's main position is central midfield. Just because he is playing a more advanced role now doesn't mean he won't want to play in is normal position again. Scholes once played as a number 10 during the early 2000s for us, it didn't stop him from going back to being a central midfielder again....
The only reason Cesc was given a more advanced role in Barcelona team was because he couldn't dislodge Xavi and Iniesta from their positions. being a big money signing(plus the things he had to do just to rejoin them, sacrificing wage and all) they had to accommodate him somehow, and he ended up not doing so bad in his new advanced position for them.
I would assume deep inside his preferred position is central midfield and wouldn't think twice if he were to be offered the opportunity to play there again.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by AndrERush(m):
I think this article explains our transfer activities this summer a lot better. As well as why Kagawa haven't featured much so far.

This is just a snippet, check out the full article. It made a lot of sense about what actually transpired.

'' United are taken aback, for example, by the latest suggestion
they challenged Arsenal for Mesut Ozil. The truth is that
United and Manchester City were both offered the player
three weeks ago. United turned it down because they had
already made up their mind that Wayne Rooney would not be
leaving and they did not want to break their transfer record,
paying upwards of £40m, for someone who plays in the same
position.
Their thinking also took into account they have Shinji
Kagawa, among others, for the No10 role. Kagawa still
features prominently in the thinking of David Moyes despite
not even being on the bench against Liverpool on Sunday. His
problem is two-fold: one, that he has had an exhausting
summer with his national team and is being brought back
slowly; two, that Moyes has not really seen him play or got to
know him very well. He is not, however, being marginalised.
United rebuffed an approach from Atlético Madrid for the
Japan international and would have done the same if Borussia
Dortmund had been in touch. As it was, there has not been a
single telephone call from the Bundesliga club, despite talking
up a possible return.''
