I will reply to the first one
Farotimi was the first person to blow this whole thing out of proportion when he published a book against the legal luminary...He highlighted this case thinking he could spoil afe babalola's reputation before the global audience and let me tell you this..more than half of afe babalola's clientele base are foreigners...So he should prove all what he said publicly just as he published his libel publicly

Then let Farotimi prove all the non sense he wrote in his books
Good... We are still talking about defamation, sir.

This is up to the courts and the judge.

It is a civil suit... Dele should be sued and given a chance to prove the allegations, and once found guilty, should be severely punished by the constitutional provision of the nation's law.

But, treating him like a dangerous terrorist or someone that committed treason is where I take exception to.

I'm not taking sides at all... I don't even know the man tbh.

Prof. Babalola is who I know, love and truly respect.

Please, don't get it twisted.

If your dad was allegedly defamed that he was a pedophile, would you let it go?
My father has been alleged to be a lot of things...!

He chose not to sue!

Now, the key word there is SUE!

It's a civil matter that a Judge should issue summons to the person accused...!

Once in court, the lawyers take it from there...!

The only time the police come in is when a warrant is issued for his arrest by the judge for his failure to appear in court when summoned.

Why is this hard to comprehend?!!

Do you think defamation is a strange or new thing in Nigerian law or any law anywhere in the universe?!!

I certainly will not get the police to arrest, handcuff and imprison whoever defames my father all because I'm wealthy and powerful.

Mine is to petition and sue... The courts take it from there. The lawyers of both parties take it from there.

Wasn't VDM accused of the same issue, the exact same issue by Falz and his family?!! Did the whole thing play out like this?!!

You are shifting the goal post Sir....did he or did he not defame afe babalola?

Did you read when they said defamation under ekiti state state laws are subject to criminal investigation
Yes, according to the issue raised, he has been accused of defamation (not found guilty, by the way).

I never said he was an innocent man being wrongly accused or set up.

I said the whole thing is being blown out of proportion! Yes, I said that! And I don't stand to be corrected.

It is wrong that a man guilty or accused of defamation is being treated far worse than corrupt idiots like Bello, FFK, Okowa, etc, by the Judiciary.

Please, what part of this did you not get?!!

How did this become the same as claiming that the man is innocent or should be let off the hook?!!

Did you even miss the part where Prof. Babalola actually said he is ready to drop the charges if the accused proves it or recants his statement?!!

Someone up there even claims that defamation is on the same level as terrorism and armed robbery.

Even the media noise is far worse than the issues on ground.

The foundation of the crisis remains Corruption and Insecurity.

"Gani Fawehinmi was one of the fiercest supporters of Nuhu Ribadu as Chairman of EFCC over his anti-corruption war. Until former IGP Tafa Balogun was arraigned on corruption charges in 2005, it was like Ribadu and EFCC could do no wrong. However, on the day Tafa appeared in court in handcuffs, Gani was livid. He fired an open letter to Ribadu, deprecating such conduct of the EFCC. The EFCC had to issue a statement that it “deeply regretted” the action. Seeing Dele Farotimi in handcuffs in court, not facing capital offence but alleged cybercrime, is another low for the correctional services. I recall they did same to Agba Jalingo over his ill-fated trial in Calabar. Did that dissuade Jalingo from doing what he is known to do? No. I’m sure Dele Farotimi would have been amused. Some politicians who are facing over N100billion corruption charges were not put on handcuffs but someone facing cybercrime charges. If there is anyone or institution to be embarrassed, it should be those who put Dele in handcuffs. Oh, they forgot to also put him in leg chains. Phew."

Is that why you are supporting defamation?

Peter Obi was at Afe babalola office today begging him to show mercy. But all of you kids online are crying about illegality when it is clearly Dele that is the criminal here
What on Earth are you people talking about?

Show mercy how? On what case? Terrorism or attempted murder?!!

So, if someone accuses me of doing something I clearly never did, it makes sense by law to get him arrested, handcuffed in the same manner as thieves, before being docked?

You mean nations where those wronged sue offenders to court for this same offense don't know how to practice Judiciary law?!!

If it were Ned, Cubana, or Okorocha, would anybody have arrested and handcuffed them like common criminals?!!

What exactly am I missing? Was there a threat to life?!!

I have seen such cases of defamation and libel abroad, it began in court with the wronged suing, then the judge fixes a time for the parties to appear in court... If a guilty verdict is decided, huge fines are imposed.

You only arrest if the offending party fails to appear in court when summoned by a judge.

That was how Eniola Badmus got someone arrested... Burna boy did the same.

This is inconsistent and a clear abuse of power and the Judiciary by those who are wealthy and privileged.

I don't even know Dele Farotimi, and couldn't care about his welfare, but most of you are simply making politics out of every issue, and this won't augur well for the future of this nation.

Do you know how Farotimi conducted himself in custody? I am objective because I leave the job and responsibilities of the police to them same way I vehemently resist Government agencies overstepping their mark when I have to deal with them as a businessman.

What you don't understand is that all Nigerians do what you are doing, I.e usurp the exclusive power and responsibilities of others, as you and several posters are doing here.

If it is agreed the police, using case by case discretion, have the power to decide whether to use handcuffs or not then why does this thread exist and why are you naming Bobrisky etal when you were not present to compare or contrast their behavior in custody, or during arrest, with that of Farotimi?

Even Seun Kuti shooting his mouth, did we not see him slapping and assaulting a policeman who had his hands behind him and did not respond to the physical assault?

If they arrest and handcuff Seun it will be OP and your sort attacking the police whereas you would not know they had valid reasons to do so because you don't care to respect the power the law gives them. You must tell them how they should or not do their jobs.

It is you who is not objective.
Lol... You are pretending and dwelling in self deceit.

You want to pretend that you don't know the selective justice administration system in this nation, or that it has existed for ages.

How well did Bello and Bobrisky comport themselves before and during their "arrest" that they were treated like VIPs?!!

In the first place, what judge signed the warrant to arrest someone accused of a non-criminal offense (yes, it's a civil matter that should begin and end in a court of jurisdiction)?!!

Do we pretend we don't know what happens in the circle of money and power in Nigeria?!!

Well, let's keep forming intellectual and political correctness while the Judiciary keeps being used as a tool of oppression.

When it comes closer home, I hope you will stand firm on your so called Objectivity.

Thank you.

You can't be claiming fairness and equity in law and Judiciary, yet openly show such imbalance and bias.

I have never seen any Top politician or ex governor handcuffed like a hardened criminal, even when their corruption cases were internationally alarming.
