frank417:It’s not only happening in public hospitals — it also occurs in private hospitals. I remember an incident where a woman had just delivered through CS, and an intern walked in and said, “sorry.” The grandmother nearly lost it because she assumed the worst from that statement. What the intern actually meant was, “sorry, I couldn’t read what you wrote.” That moment captured the danger of placing inexperienced interns in situations that require trained professionals. In healthcare, poor communication and inadequate supervision can create unnecessary panic — and in more serious cases, put lives at risk. |
While the concern for patient safety is valid, the conversation also needs balance. Interns in public hospitals are not simply “students being used to replace staff.” In many healthcare professions, internship is a compulsory transition stage between classroom learning and full professional practice. Doctors, pharmacists, nurses, medical laboratory scientists, physiotherapists, and others cannot become competent professionals without supervised hands-on experience with real patients. The real issue is not the existence of interns — it is poor supervision, understaffing, and weak healthcare funding. Public hospitals in Nigeria are often overwhelmed. Many facilities are dealing with staff shortages caused by migration of healthcare workers, delayed recruitment, poor salaries, and inadequate government funding. In that environment, interns sometimes end up carrying responsibilities beyond what should normally be assigned to them. That is a systemic failure, not proof that internship itself is dangerous. Completely removing interns from direct patient interaction is also unrealistic. Healthcare is learned through practice. A medical doctor cannot become confident by only observing from a distance. A pharmacist must eventually interact with prescriptions. A nurse must handle patients under supervision. The key phrase is under supervision. Many of the fully licensed professionals being demanded today were once interns who needed experienced mentors to guide them. Rather than calling for an end to interns participating in patient care, the focus should be on: Ensuring proper supervision by senior professionals Hiring more permanent healthcare workers Improving hospital funding Creating clear boundaries for what interns can and cannot do Holding hospital management accountable when interns are overworked or left unsupervised Blaming interns alone risks targeting young professionals who are also victims of a struggling healthcare system. The solution is to fix the structure that forces them into roles they were never meant to handle alone. Patient safety matters, but so does building the next generation of competent healthcare professionals. Jman06: |
You should be happy you have it. I’ll be very honest because a lot of brands overpromise this: there is currently no guaranteed “permanent removal” for stretch marks unless the skin is surgically removed (like a tummy tuck for abdominal skin). Most treatments can significantly fade them, improve texture, and make them much less visible—but complete erasure is rare. What works depends on whether your stretch marks are: Start treatment early with: ✅ Tretinoin ✅ Hyaluronic acid products ✅ Laser treatment These respond faster. Things that usually DON'T permanently remove stretch marks These may help moisturize skin but usually won’t erase stretch marks: Cocoa butter Shea butter Coconut oil Bio-oil Vitamin E oil They can improve dryness but evidence for actual removal is weak. Since you’re likely in Lagos and many people with darker skin tones can develop pigmentation issues after aggressive lasers: Start with a qualified dermatologist + microneedling consultation first. It tends to be safer than jumping straight into harsh laser treatments. |

LithiumSupplier:How am I a “wicked” person when the owner refuses to fix the water system and expects us to figure it ourselves? Detergent is not provided because it was stolen, yet we are the ones who suffer. On top of that, our salaries are deducted if we fail to meet sales targets—what am I supposed to do in such circumstances? |
Just as engine oil lubricates, cools, and protects car parts, blood carries oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and removes waste in the human body. When everything is clean and circulating well, the system runs smoothly. Here’s the parallel: Old or low engine oil = poor blood quality or dehydration When oil is dirty or low, engine parts grind and overheat. When blood is unhealthy (from poor diet, dehydration, or illness), organs work harder and get damaged over time. Skipping oil changes = skipping health checkups Many people wait until they feel pain or collapse before seeing a doctor—just like drivers waiting for strange engine noises. By then, damage has already started. Wrong oil type = wrong lifestyle choices Using the wrong oil harms an engine slowly. Poor diet, lack of sleep, smoking, or inactivity slowly harm the body—even if you feel “fine” at first. Reduced fuel efficiency = low energy levels A neglected engine burns more fuel. An unhealthy body feels tired, weak, and performs poorly at school, work, or sports. Engine failure = chronic disease Ignoring small issues can lead to total engine failure. Ignoring health habits can lead to serious conditions that are expensive, painful, and hard to reverse. The lesson Small, regular maintenance prevents big problems. For cars: Regular oil checks and changes For humans: Regular meals, clean water, exercise, sleep, and medical checkups Just like drivers who maintain their cars save money and avoid breakdowns, people who take care of their bodies early avoid serious health problems later. |

Ladies and the “Pull Her Down” (PhD) Syndrome The idea that women are each other’s worst enemies has been repeated so often that many people accept it as truth. At the center of this belief is what is commonly called the Pull Her Down (PhD) syndrome—a pattern where women see one another as competition, respond with jealousy or envy, and sometimes fail to offer genuine support. While this behavior does exist, it is important to understand it not as a natural trait of women, but as a learned response shaped by social pressure, limited opportunities, and deeply rooted insecurity. In many spaces, women are subtly taught that there is only room for a few of them at the top. Beauty, success, relationships, intelligence, and even suffering are turned into competitions. When everything becomes a comparison, another woman’s success can feel like a personal loss. Instead of inspiration, it triggers jealousy. Instead of collaboration, it breeds quiet resentment. This mindset creates an environment where women watch each other closely—not to uplift, but to measure themselves. One of the most painful aspects of the PhD syndrome is performative support. Compliments that are not genuine, encouragement that hides resentment, and praise that fades the moment someone turns their back. Support is offered, but not from the heart. Behind smiles are whispers, judgment, or a secret hope that the other woman will fail. This kind of behavior is damaging not only to the person being targeted, but also to the one engaging in it, because it reinforces insecurity and prevents real connection. Jealousy and envy often stem from unresolved self-doubt. When a woman has not been allowed—or has not allowed herself—to fully believe in her own worth, another woman’s confidence or success can feel threatening. Instead of asking, “What can I learn from her?” the question becomes, “Why her and not me?” Over time, this thinking turns into criticism, comparison, and emotional distance. However, it is crucial to say this clearly: women are not inherently jealous or unsupportive. Many women uplift, mentor, protect, and celebrate one another sincerely. Sisterhood exists, but it struggles to survive in environments that reward competition over community. When women are encouraged to see abundance instead of scarcity, collaboration instead of rivalry, the PhD syndrome loses its power. Breaking this cycle starts with honesty. It requires women to confront their own insecurities, to check their intentions when offering support, and to choose kindness even when comparison feels tempting. Real empowerment is not tearing another woman down to feel taller; it is standing firm in your own worth while helping others rise. When women support each other genuinely, not from obligation or image but from the heart, they challenge a system that thrives on division. And in doing so, they create spaces where success is shared, not stolen, and where sisterhood becomes a strength rather than a slogan. |
Polygamy did not begin with Islam. Long before Islam, men married multiple women without limits or responsibility. In pre-Islamic Arabia, there was no restriction on the number of wives. In Jewish history, prophets like Jacob, David, and Solomon had multiple wives. In ancient Hindu and Persian societies, polygamy was common among kings and elites. Islam did not invent polygamy — it reformed it. Islam limited marriages to four wives only and made justice a strict condition. If justice is not possible, Islam commands one wife only. Polygamy was allowed to protect widows and divorced women, to maintain social balance where women outnumber men, to prevent immorality and secret relationships, and to provide dignity, responsibility, and lawful family life. In Islam, polygamy is not desire — it is responsibility. The Qur’an clearly states: “If you fear injustice, then marry only one.” |
