JMAN05: granted the word can mean ridicule but the overall view of that verse suggests that ridicule is not the best word to use. another prove is that Paul applied that word to speaking in tongues which sometimes it is a language people do not understand without an interpreter. 1cor. 14:21I am not giving it any meaning that suits me. Now you are just arguing for arguing sake. I read the entire chapter of Isaiah 28 and based on what was being said and what was going on, this was what was being implied. Even the NLT says 'So now God will have to speak to his people through foreign oppressors who speak a strange language!' Just because I feel like pointing this out, the Hebrew word for stammering in Isa 28:11 -לעג (lâ‛êg)- was used in Psalm 35:16 which says 'With hypocritical mockers (lâ‛êg) in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.' (They mock and call me names; They snarl at me. [NLT]). So yes, it means in that context mocking/ ridiculing which is what an oppressor would do. Still nothing whatsoever to do with speaking in tongues. I said The bible, in translation, a lot words have lost their original meaning a little.I never said it was wrong. Strong's definition is not the only language dictionary in the world....even though that's what I used. Interestingly enough I decided to Google Hebrew dictionaries online, every single one I found defines the word as ridicule, mock. I looked for the original Hebrew text of the Bible, both links I looked at, in fact show the word as בְּלַעֲגֵי which means same thing - deride (express contempt for/ ridicule). Here, see for yourself: http://www.scripture4all.org/OnlineInterlinear/OTpdf/isa28.pdf and http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt1028.htm. In fact the Strongs lexicon you quote see the result I got when I searched: 3934 la`eg law-ayg' from 3932; a buffoon; also a foreigner:--mocker, stammering. (http://www.eliyah.com/cgi-bin/strongs.cgi?file=hebrewlexicon&isindex=3934)The first word there is Buffoon. the foreigner is an afterthought. Rom8:27, Strongs lexicon states inclination or purpose, other lexicons (I used different ones) say will, spirit, original greek text says disposition (http://www.scripture4all.org/OnlineInterlinear/NTpdf/rom8.pdf), when I check the word itself in greek dictionaries, it means conviction. Again, I am looking at the overall chapter and what Paul was talking about to understand the meaning of the verses. I end here, I repeat, the words in question and the verses have nothing to do with speaking in tongues. Before I answer any Biblical question I always pray and ensure what I post is what God wants to pass across truly. I have much more of the Bible to read and gain understanding of from God. Any more time spent going over this issue is pointless because I don't see how much more it can be explained. May God grant us all understanding. |
JMAN05: I do not agree with you that the word means mocker. what you will say is that the word CAN mean mocker depending on the context. some words do have more than one meaning at times.Definition of Buffoon: a ridiculous but amusing person so yes it means ridicule. I did not check the meaning of the word, I checked the original Greek/ Hebrew words used and their definitions I didn't just define anything there. Isaiah you just said yourself involves God delivering the people into a people that speak strange language.....how does that refer to speaking in tongues? And it originally means convict, the word used is 'φρόνημα' (phronema) which means conviction (a strong belief in something without need for proof or evidence), inclination (a natural tendency to act in a particular way) or purpose (the reason for which something is done). Looking at the definition of conviction are the preceding verses not talking about us having a hope which we have no evidence for? The bible, in translation, a lot words have lost their original meaning a little. I believe in speaking in tongues, as EBK2 explained it but these verses are in no way related to speaking in tongues, You are not disagreeing with me but the word of God. In fact, all you stated above: just confirms that what I explained is what these verses meant. NO, I am not arguing 'cos I am not here to win points but I am tired of people misinterpreting the Bible and leading others astray. |
I have learnt to read what comes before an after a verse or statement so I do not misinterpret it. Isaiah 28:11 has been woefully misinterpreted. In Isaiah 28, God was talking to the people of Samaria (the crowning glory of Ephraim)that they had departed from Him. (vs 7 talks about the priests and prophets being drunk, vs 8 vomit everywhere – showing how ‘out of their mind’ they were). Vs 9 They are full of their own wisdom and are asking why God is teaching them like children…precept (that is commandment) upon precept, line (that is rule) upon line. That is to say they were complaining, ‘Who does God think he is teaching the difference between knowledge and rumour (doubtful truth)? We who are no longer children? It must be Commandment upon commandment, rule upon rule, little here and little there (I think this little may be referring to the idea of moderation). Because of their irreverence, Isaiah 28:11 says ‘For with a lot of ridicule and a tongue that hinders will he [God] make a speech to these present people.’ (i.e. he will use a people/ tribe to ridicule and hinder them) Note: I used a Bible software that shows the original Hebrew or Greek the Bible was written in and the Hebrew word which was translated to ‘stammering’ in Isaiah 28:11 actually means to ‘ridicule’ or ‘mock’. (Any word I translate I have used original Greek or Hebrew word and meaning). This verse and the whole chapter is talking about God visiting his anger on a people that have turned their back on him and speaking to them not in kindness and chastisement but in ridicule. It is kind of along the lines of God saying because a tribe has turned away from him, he will remove his hand of protection and allow them to be brought to shame. Romans 8:22-27 We sigh and imagine what is to come. In the same way, our spirit (which is of God) sighs when it sees physical or mental weakness. And because our spirit is God’s spirit given to us when we are saved, it automatically ‘transmits’ this feeling to God because God searches our hearts. And we are sure that whatever weakness the spirit sighs about is right because it is the Spirit of God. It is in line with Psalm 139:23-24 which says “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”. In other words: God searches our hearts (that is all he cares about- our hearts). What does he find there? He finds - among others - what His Spirit in us has seen as weakness and is sighing about because this weakness needs to be fixed. We may not know but the spirit knows (same way we may know what is to come vs 23-25 that’s why we have hope). And so because we don’t know, the spirit does the work convicting us to what is wrong. It is His Spirit that is sighing therefore the Spirit is acting according to the will of God because the Spirit of God cannot act against the will of God. So when we think, oh I need to deal with anger or fornication etc., or have an overwhelming conviction* it is our spirit man speaking and we know it is right because we are given the Spirit of God when we are saved, therefore it is the Spirit of God speaking. The Spirit of God can only convict according to the will of God. Simply put, the reason we are no longer bound by old testament commandments and rules and traditions is because the Spirit of God in us will convict us to what is right and wrong, where to go and not to go, what to pray for and where we need help and all we need to know. We don't know but the Spirit does. And how do we know it is the will of God? God’s Spirit cannot go against his will. As long as we are TRULY saved, His Spirit takes precedence (superiority) over our lives. It will convict us of wrong and convict us of what we need to pray for; and what we cannot pray for in words God by searching our hearts automatically understands as his Spirit communes with his Spirit in us. *Again, it might interest you to note that the Greek word used in vs 27 for the MIND of the spirit actually means the CONVICTION of the Spirit. NEITHER OF THESE VERSES IS IN ANY WAY RELATED TO SPEAKING IN TONGUES. They have zilch, nada, absolutely nothing to do with speaking in tongues. God bless. |
na today? My church has been doing it for a while. In fact you can pay via text too. This is not an issue as someone has said....next! |
hariorh: Job 1:21No, my dear, those words were Jobs words. God gives but he does not take away. However, because of our choice we may give the devil leeway to take away what God has given. In Job, God gave Job and then gave the devil permission to tempt Job. As part of the temptation, the devil took away. Because God had given permission for the temptation and knew what he would eventually restore he didn't stop the devil at that point but he didn't take anything away or smite Job, that was all Satan's doing. Please don't base your belief of God on the hurt-filled erroneous words of a man in pain. |
EBK2: @BenalvinoWow! You are truly blessed. Thank you for this. You've actually done 1Cor 14:6. Now for me to go do some more digging and ask the Holy Spirit for more understanding. But thank you for taking the time to teach this. God bless you. |
OCTAVO: There's no word like "uncompleted" it's incompletedActually 'uncompleted' is a word, as is incomplete. Incompleted on the other hand even MS word is rejecting as a word. |
Her appearance is referred to as a cameo. Many are publicity stunts. Others are acknowledgments of an actor's contribution to an earlier work, as in the case of many film adaptations of TV series, or of remakes of earlier films. Others honour artists or celebrities known for work in a particular field.India's Ashwarya Rai has had a cameo, as well as Amitabh Bachan as previously mentioned. Even Hollywood A-listers have had cameos, some hollywood directors have had cameos. You are all making fun of her that it was a waka pass role. Do you know how many UK A-list celebrities would give an arm and a leg for such a role, not just appearing but appearing as themselves? |
A war of words between a pair of disgruntled brides and two guests who brought them a 'cheap and embarrassing' gift, has sparked a debate over wedding etiquette.I think this is plain greed. It is sad to see what society has degraded the meaning of weddings and marriage to. It shouldn't be about the gift. It's the thought that counts. After all, I didn't ask you to marry in an expensive place.

blink182: bla, bla, bla...shut up your mouth. How does the non sense you are saying relate to a radical group wanting to islamise the country.Abeg, Blink182 will you marry me? You speak like a sensible human being. Truly common sense isn't so common anymore. Btw I am igbo but please do not generalize, I actually feel like slapping IGBO-SON to kingdom come right now. @IGBO-SON: From an Igbo lady, So what if Nigeria is made up of different ethnic groups? Who told you that USA is made up of people of the same race and ethnicity? And yet, somehow, they have made it work. The problem is with Nigerians, not the govt, not senators or governors but with Nigerian citizens. Until we take responsibility for our country we are going nowhere. In UK and US and countless other countries it is not the government that runs gas and electricity, it is not government that handles telephone or internet, it is not government that handles water. But in Nigeria we sit down and want government to come and do everything for you including clean your bum after you use the toilet. The solution to Nigeria's problem is simple but everyone is too lazy to actually do something. It is a simple issue of every state has autonomy and is independent and runs things their way and then a few powers are held by central government and then everybody else actually starts doing something where they are. It should not matter to you that a hausa or igbo or efik or idoma person died, what should matter is that a precious human life is needlessly lost, therein lies our humanity. When we are cut, we all bleed red so why the animosity and enmity? Even Brazil, UK (scots, welsh, english, irish) and lots of other countries are made up of different people but yet they have found a way to live in peace why can't we? You are talking separation. Okay, North and South Korea that separated are they still not having issues? Are people not dying? Is that child not still there threatening nonsense and trying to kill South Koreans? Please just kill that stupid and baseless argument. As far as I am concerned, until the Nigerian mentality changes, we are not going anywhere. |
Here's another pic from the Australia site of a Bata toughees shoe called Zoe I actually remember Bata shoes and Lennards, Kito came much later. Darn! Like joke, like play, person don old oh!
|
LOL! Memories. And would you believe it, out of interest I ran a Google search for Bata shoes and the company still exists in a good number of countries though for whatever reason they are not in US or UK (They are in Canada and Australia). Anyway so I went one further and guess what? While slightly different, these our beloved shoes still exist, now known - very aptly - as Toughees! @ Mandy4$ here's a link for you: http://www.bata.com/brands-Bata-Toughees.php#1

Very good write-up. Applies to ladies as well. Nice one. |
@Blink182 thanks. |
loveroftruth: Rule 17:Seun, don't 'Strike Down' rule 17. Instead, edit it. It should be re-instated and read something like this: 17. Don't post anything that could be considered offensive to any religion or ethnicity. Nairaland aims to promote tolerance not division. 'Chikena' 'O ton' 'Ogwuchala'. Also, rather than rules always coming up, Sit down, research other forums and come up with a standard set of rules and put that up. And like another forum I am on does, then advise anyone who joins to please read those rules before posting, that way you don't have to keep going back and forth. And if any one has an issue, you refer them there. Like Confucius said, 'Life is really simple but we insist on making it complicated. |
Oh, and I agree with christopherike, there should be a way to cancel my account if I so wish rather than having to post. Or an email address to send a request to cancel account too. And while I have not had any post deleted, judging by the comments on here, it appears you may have to either re-assess or re-recruit (LOL) your mods as many of them appear to adopt a 'fastest fingers first' and firefighting approach to moderating. (i.e. delete first, ask questions later). |
Seun: Definition of STRIKE DOWNActually in a manner of speaking both are correct.. Definition of Strike off: strike off vb (tr) 1. to remove or erase from (a list, record, etc.) by or as if by a stroke of the pen (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/strike+off) Definition of STRIKE 7 [with object] cancel, remove, or cross out with or as if with a pen:I will strike his name from the list the Court of Appeal struck out the claim for exemplary damages she was striking words through with a pen (strike someone off) officially remove someone from membership of a professional group:he was struck off by the Law Society and will never practise as a solicitor again (strike something down) North American abolish a law or regulation: the law was struck down by the Supreme Court [http://oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/strike] Which is what you did, you removed from a list. If you have no intention of EVER re-introducing this 'rule' in a any shape or form in any of the forums, then you can say you have 'stricken it down.' However, it is my understanding that in some way you are likely to reintroduce this rule at some point in the future, and so, for the purpose of this, the correct thing to say is 'strike off'. I think the best thing to say is you have stricken the rule FROM the list and let peace rule. As for rule 21, come on people. English is not our mother tongue but it is the 'lingua franca' of the country and so we should use it properly. Don't be like British people whose English is atrocious. (Shey my English try abi? Sorry I couldn't resist adding this bit! )Peace out! |

ozo_emeka: Eh she's okay, I'm a guy and im "Prettier" than she isLOL! You know what? I actually agree with you. |
I couldn't be bothered to fully go through all the posts. All I have to say is: in the words of Margaret Thatcher: "Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't." If you have to announce you're beautiful....well....(fill in the gap). |
N5 million? When bride price in some places is N23? Pschewwww! |
blackmann: Or if Tonto Dike tatoos her rear end.Blackmann, Are you a soothsayer? Guess what the top article on the fp is right now? You guessed it - Nollywood actresses and their tattoos and it already has more comments than this topic. I am sad for Nigerians. |
The only thing so I find interesting in this is the mention of endorsing autonomy for the states. Now that would be a welcome development, imho. What is the point in creating more states when we have not administered effectively the ones already in existence? |
Toks2008: Sure you are right but when a girl says she is a virgin, there is no cause to doubt her, one day you will do it and if you confirm she is then cool but if she claims she lost her virginity through other means but still insist that she is one then dint believe her at all except maybe she swears with her womb which i don't support but should be the best way to believe she is saying the truth. Ladies can be very deceptive so except you actually see that stain then don't believe her.For the highlighted that is not proof. There are people who lose via physical exercise and there are people born without a hymen so really you can't always use the stain as proof. Just hope to God the lady is not playing you for a fool and be careful. If you have been with the person for a bit, you should know whether you can trust their words or not. |
teniola564: Igbo have this problem with jealousy especially when it comes to Yoruba's that are doing well. Please don't generalize. Did you miss where I said I'm Igbo. By the way I can attribute the same to Yoruba people. |
joxiri: However in the medical field especially in the uk u have to be squeaky clean, if this her business was in the uk she would have received some serious hounding from the press by nowNo, Nwando did what is called 'shoddy' investigation. S/He without plausible proof accused the lady of lying outright. If not that there are people who took the time to research everyone would believe that she is not a doctor if we are to go by Nwando's investigation(and I use the term investigation in relation to what nwando did very loosely). As for press hounding in the UK, well her organization claims to be supported by East Anglian Air Ambulance. If she was truly lying, she would not have a snowball's chance in he.ll of them supporting her. I've dropped a short email to ask them to confirm if they support and will update on their response. At the end of the day all the research is so that if I or anyone I know or even those here ever need her services and it becomes affordable, they can be called on with confidence. |
nwando: But dr ola in an answer about her 10 yr experience and other lies saidthis is your quote oh. So why are you quoting punch which according to you as above she has already said was not true? Is it today that journalists make up stuff? okay so Daily Mail UK reported some time ago that Angelina Jolie was getting married, Angelina said I'm not getting married. Angelina J is now a liar right? Your reasoning scares me.I have no idea where anyone got the idea that I started univeristy at 15, I have never said that. I started at 17 and did a five year course without a Bsc. Journalists will write what they like I guess and its difficult to control especially when most of the time I dont even get an interview, I just find myself featured in a newspaper with a grossly inaccurate article mixing dates/times/circumstances. as for her book you asked about, it is on amazon, whsmith and a host of other bookstores. WH smith does not sell, any Tom Di.ck and Harry Book as anyone in UK will tell you. I have seen books on amazon that WH Smith does not stock. Since you like proof here it is: Book name: Revision Questions for Paediatrics : EMQs with Answers Explained by Orekunrin, Olamide; Chaplin, Helen http://www.amazon.co.uk/Revision-Questions-Paediatrics-Explained-MasterPass/dp/1846193761 http://www.whsmith.co.uk/Products/Revision-Questions-for-Paediatrics-EMQs-with-Answers-Explained-MasterPass-S+Paperback+9781846193767 http://www.abebooks.co.uk/9781846193767/Revision-Questions-Paediatrics-EMQs-Answers-1846193761/plp http://books.telegraph.co.uk/BerteShopWeb/viewProduct.do?ISBN=9781846193767 as for journal articles, I don't have access to every medical journal in the world so I cannot irrefutably prove or disprove that claim. omo jeje: I am on about the American Board of Aesthetic Surgery cos I personally know what it takes to be qualified to sit for a medical board exam here. It's funny how she did not try the Royal College of Surgery exams where they have a specialty board in aesthetic surgery. She chose to say she is board certified in America where you have to have completed an ACGME (Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education) accredited training program before you can qualify as a candidate. Ok, where in her CV is the time she spent doing a residency in America (minimum of 5 full years for surgery, before you go on to specialize in cosmetic/aesthetic/plastic surgery for another 2-3 yrs)? With regards to the highlighted, omo jeje and obowunmi, it is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it. Here is a website: http://www.aaamed.org/index.cfm?menuid=1. and it is spelt Aesthetic on the website. As Toluene said she can be a member, and as per the website you can write the exams you don't necessarily need residency. Also they have branches in Asia, Europe, Mid-East and South Africa so she could have written the exam in any of these locations and be board certified by the AAAM. However, while I did not find her name on the AAAM website list of Board certified members, some of the other branches websites do not list names so again I cannot irrefutably prove or disprove this claim. She is possibly a member but may not be Board certified or in the process of certification - I cannot say conclusively. Nwando, just admit you are clutching at straws. And by the way, I am proudly Igbo. (tho' every1 I've met says I don't look or sound Igbo [or even Yoruba or Hausa!] though I use a mix of Yoruba and Igbo exclamations) |
According to this latest article she went into med school at 15 despite recanting that claim in an emailShe stated herself she entered at 17 years of age. And yes, she graduated at 21 if she entered at 17 years. How you ask? Well as I was having dinner just now out of curiosity I Google-d youngest doctor in UK, guess what I found? A 21-year-old woman has become one of Britain's youngest doctors after graduating from the University of Manchester. Rachael Faye Hill, who was born in Blackpool, received.....That is most likely around the age Ola was as well. Now she graduated in 2008 (edited), this lady graduated in 2010. It is entirely possible that at the time of graduation she was the youngest and also 21 years and three hundred-and-something days but now this lady by a few days or months has beat her record so to speak and so is NOW the youngest and she is now ONE OF the YOUNGEST. So actually hun, her age of graduation from this article is an achievement. There is everything fantastic about it. And I still cannot see the lies. |
nwando:Nope, it does not imply after graduation, that is your personal read into it as if you have lived abroad you would know that work experience here includes apprenticeships, volunteer work, internships as well as after graduation work. There is a difference between saying 10 years doctoral experience and 10 years work experience. I should know, I work in HR. Unlike in Nigeria, in UK every little experience counts as it is all about transferable skills. If she said 10 years medical experience, yes I would call her out on it. NO, she said almost 10 years in the NHS, that could be for a variety of jobs. Yes the way it is stated can be easily misconstrued that does not make her out to be a liar. Rather she needs to state it more clearly on her site. Even a position as secretary of a student union is considered experience if there are skills that apply to the post being considered for. To quote her from your quote: I worked in the NHS for nearly 10 years. I got my first job at 14. This is quite normal in England. Some people do a paper round or work in a shop. I worked for the NHS, firstly as a volunteer, then a physio assistant, then as a healthcare assistant, then as a medical student before becoming a doctor. Over time in different healthcare providing positions, I got the opportunity to see healthcare from a number of different perspectives. Over time in different healthcare providing positions, I got the opportunity to see healthcare from a number of different perspectives. She never said 10 years as a doctor. But 10 years in the health sector in different healthcare providing positions which has given her an all round experience in the health sector. Again, please where is the lie in that? |
you see your problem, you chose that which suits you to defend your stance. You chose only bedmaking...what happened to taking blood pressure, shadowing healthcare assistants, completing charts, oh it doesn't support your point so have to ignore it. *Hiss* I'm done arguing with people who have selective reading, I'm out to make a difference, you can sit here and keep tearing others down while they make their millions. Bye. |
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Impressed my ar.se. I am in UK, I have worked for KPMG, TJX Europe, Santander UK to name a few. I have published articles and more which I hope to get published. Nothing impresses me anymore, dear. Impressed...ROTFLMAO.....you've so got to be kidding me. |
Not volunteering. Work experience which they are paid about £95 a week for. According to NHS document which I posted earlier: Clinical tasks which are appropriate forLast I checked that's good experience. And obviously after a few years she would have moved on to full placement as per her medical course: The course at HYMS has several notable features that are designed to make learning relevant, supportive and fun: She could not have smelled president of BMA for 20yrs if ever,it comes with experiencePrecisely, experience she would have had if she stayed in UK in the NHS. And there is nothing impossible under the sun. She could well have achieved it. You've still not shown me any lies she told. Do you realize they are desperately looking for good doctors in UK? As per her course she gained very good experience before graduation because as part of medical school you have hands on experience. I know people who work in NHS, you don't want to know how many people want to work there. Do you know how difficult it is to get into the NHS? So yes, she has a promising career for her to have gotten a job in NHS. And in NHS it is not difficult to advance your career. |
,' the bride sniped.
