Why do women go into
menopause? “The ovaries basically shut down,” explains West
Penn Hospital OBGYN Dr. Emily Lebovitz. “Why
exactly that occurs we don’t know.” Around age 50, women end their reproductive
years — an event called menopause. Hormones
change, menstrual cycles stop, and natural
childbearing is no longer a possibility. Menopause could be nature’s way of matching
motherhood to younger bodies. “It’s certainly healthier for them to have children in
their 20s, 30s, 40s, and then it becomes much more
difficult,” Dr. Lebovitz continues. But a Canadian researcher says it’s because of men,
and because of competition. Using computer modeling, he found competition
among men of any age for younger mates left older
females with less chance of reproducing. He says the result is that genes favoring
menopause got passed down through the
generations, so that now it’s a normal part of the
female genetic blueprint. But there are problems with this theory. “That’s an assumption that they made when they
started their computer model, that men do like
younger mates, and I don’t think you can make
that assumption,” says Dr. Lebovitz. What’s more, if menopause is genetically
determined and influenced by the environment,
you would expect that some women would not go
through menopause, or with increased life
expectancy, the length of fertility might
proportionally lengthen. But that hasn’t been the case. “We haven’t seen a change in the age of
menopause in general. It’s somewhat preposterous
to assume this has to do with men’s choices,” Dr.
Lebovitz says. “Computer studies are difficult.
Certainly population based studies can have more
validity.”

For ur info, there is no ship afloat that can match the american Arleig Burke Class Destroyer and the Germam U212 diesel-electric submarines are the best platforms in the business (i recomend you do a little research on that to clear your doubts) so pls dnt exagerate russia's might. The ability to deploy depends on the forgein policy of the party involved. ie. isreal's sphere of influence Is the middle east hence the isrealis dnt need long distance drones or forgein bases, america's sphere of influence is the whole globe that is why they build bases in friendly states all over the world to station quick responce teams so they can project their military power anywhere in the world at anytime. So it is purely a function of policies and intrests

Isreal is the world's largets exporter of unmaned aerial vehicles (Drones) and the world leader in that area of military tech. - jane's fighting machines 2012 report.
The USAF's GPS is the only stand-alone tech here, the germans and isrealis have the tech and capability to build theirs but they just cant afford the huge development and operating cost and thats the game changer.

The isreali sayeret maktal for example developes battle techniques by studying evrything in nature from how wolf packs hunt to ant colonies taking down large preys and transfer this skills to the us navy special warfare center. The SEALs dnt evn use an american rifle for most ops, instead they use an enhanced german built HK45 and an Isreali conner-shot device. I am well informed on the abottabad raid but are you informed on the 1977 mogadishu raid by the german GSG9 which lasted only 7 mins? In international counter-terrorism circles aircraft raids are recognised as the most difficult op a commando squad can encounter and the GSG9 and the SAYERET MATKAL are heavily involved in developing and testing methods and techniques for this type of ops and others. The GSG9 for example has completed 1500 missions between 1977 and today fireing their weapon only 5 times! Point is - there are teams which are on par with the us navy seals, they jst dont make noise abt it.

i seriously used to think nairaland was a place full of intelectuals who post vetted comments but this thread has proven otherwise. Some people's comment/analysis of the military balance between isreal and russia is simply appaling to say the least. For the record, isreal's military capability is heavily projected by their airforce which is the best in the world in terms of personel - an average isreali pilot is a master of his craft, even the USAF is only stronger bcuz it posseses more sophisticated airframes. On the first day of the Yum-Kippor war, the syrians sent 100 brand new russian built Migs against the isrealis, none returned. In a confrontation, the russians might jst av the advantage bcuz of sheer numerical superiority. This analogy also applies to all other branches of the military except the navy which isreal having a defensive forgein policy keeps small unlike the russians n americans who need to project power in different conners of the globe.
