Foreign AffairsRe: If You're Born In America You're American - Nancy Pelosi by Ankakh: 2:06pm On Jan 25, 2025
It's as clear as black and white. It's in the 14th amendment.

Any argument is rooted in ignorance and maybe some bigotry and racism joined together.

Foreign AffairsRe: Federal Judge Blocks Trump's Birthright Citizenship Executive Order by Ankakh: 9:52am On Jan 24, 2025
"I have been on the bench for over four decades," said Judge Coughenour, who was nominated to the bench by President Ronald Reagan in 1981. "I can't remember another case where the case presented is as clear as it is here. This is a blatantly unconstitutional order."

"In your opinion, is this executive order constitutional?" he asked DOJ attorney Brett Shumate.

"Yes, we think it is," Shumate said, drawing the judge's rebuke.

"I have difficulty understanding how a member of the bar can state unequivocally that this is an unconstitutional order. It boggles my mind," Coughenour said. "Where were the lawyers when this decision was being made?"
This exchange summarizes how Trump consistently throws a grenade into the career of Attorneys who work for him, and now the DOJ as well has been dragged into the mud. (Meanwhile, note the response of the DOJ Attorney grin)
PoliticsRe: Court Proscribes Lakurawa, Declares Sect A Terrorist Organisation by Ankakh: 9:48am On Jan 24, 2025
Good. Now, hunt them down and give them no breathing space to operate. Then find their backers and put them all out of business.

The state and federal government should also develop those areas.
PoliticsRe: Why kidnapping persists in Arepo, Ishawo, others by Ankakh: 9:46am On Jan 24, 2025
Intelligence and Security in that area is very lax. Government needs to pay serious attention before it gets totally out of hand.
Foreign AffairsRe: US Doesn't Need Canadian Energy Or Cars - Trump by Ankakh: 9:44am On Jan 24, 2025
Trump also reiterated his threat to impose tariffs on the country, saying it can be avoided if the neighbouring nation chose to "become a state" of the US.
Why will Canada become the 51st state of the US?

What will Canada benefit from the US? Free healthcare, sane leadership, sensible gun laws, messed up immigration system, foreign policy edge... What exactly will they gain?

Not to mention the fact that Canada's main trade with the US is petroleum products. Americans will now wonder why their gas pump prices have gone up again. Leaders without a common sense brain, talkless of a thinking one...
Foreign AffairsRe: Trump Orders Release Of Long-Secret Final Files On JFK, RFK, MLK Assassinations by Ankakh: 9:40am On Jan 24, 2025
The US is not a country that reads. They watch TikTok reels and take opinions from influencers and loud mouths.

Regardless of the release of these classified docs, it won't change much.

Foreign AffairsRe: Trump Urges Opec To Slash Oil Prices by Ankakh: 9:38am On Jan 24, 2025
"You gotta bring down the oil price, that will end that war. You could end that war," he added
How will this help the US since Trump is also singing "drill, baby, drill"?
On the one hand, Trump is counting on increasing US crude oil production while hoping that Russia is frozen out of the market by low prices.
PoliticsRe: Governor Ododo And Yahaya Bello Visit Wike In Abuja (Photos) by Ankakh: 9:28am On Jan 24, 2025
If someone had been accused of corruption, those in power should not be seen publicly with that person. It sends a wrong message to the citizens. But hey, who cares in Naija?

Foreign AffairsRe: Manufacture In America Or Face Tariffs – Trump Warns Global Business Leaders by Ankakh: 9:24am On Jan 24, 2025
“Come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on earth.

“But if you don’t make your product in America, which is your prerogative, then very simply you will have to pay a tariff,” he stated.
Carrot and stick approach. Unfortunately, this is not how to use it. Trump is just a loud mouth. And he does it for the benefit of his base, and they lap it up

How does he not understand that these companies don't care about tariffs? They will simply mark it up on their products. The people who actually suffer are the end users, the everyday citizens. If you add a 25% tariff on imported aluminium from China for example, the companies that import these products into the US will pay that tariff to the US Customs, and assuming the price was $100/kg before the tariff, it becomes $125 or even $150 after the tariff (depending on how much revenue is necessary to keep the company in business). Yes, the companies will pay the tariff but the people actually paying are the users. This is part of why inflation happens in some sectors.

How does he not understand it? Or maybe he understands it but continue to play a fast one on his supporters.

This is not how you make your country strong.
Foreign AffairsRe: South Sudan Issues 30-Day Social Media Ban by Ankakh: 9:16am On Jan 24, 2025
Every time a government does this social media bans, it's to silence views in opposition to them. Is it right? I think public safety and a sane society is more important.

Foreign AffairsRe: Andy Ogles Proposes Constitutional Amendment To Allow Trump Run For 3rd Term by Ankakh: 9:09am On Jan 24, 2025
President Trump has shown time and time again that his loyalty lies with the American people and our great nation above all else... [and] has also broken the chains of DEI by eliminating federal programs...
Americans are not just white. They include people from all races. By removing DEI mandates in federal institutions, you're effectively rolling back the progress of the past 50 or so years and marginalizing every other minority race.

Placing American safety as his top priority, President Trump designated Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations, empowering law enforcement to dismantle these violent networks with greater force.
If American safety is Trump's priority (and the Republican-led Congress), why not all work together to institute sensible gun laws?

He has tackled the crisis at our Southern border by declaring a national emergency, deploying additional troops and resources to curb illegal crossings, and expediting the completion of the border wall.
So declaring a national emergency is how to tackle the crisis at the Southern border? Smart fellows indeed. What imaginary crisis by the way? GOP always just create a bogey man and keep beating that.

He has also initiated the process to withdraw the United States from the World Health Organization, a decision I am personally very excited about following the Biden Administration’s disastrous COVID pandemic response
So Biden bungled COVID response with WHO but Trump is the one that handled it just right. Human beings and short memories. Pathetic!

Funny how this rather fresh 2nd term GOP Congressman conveniently ignored the ~1500 criminals pardoned by Trump while listing everything he had done since he resumed office.

My issue with the Republicans is simple: work for the country, not a man.

If y'all are truly working for the country, you will go against the President when he's not doing right for the country. These Republicans forget that it was Nixon's own party men that told him he has to resign in '74. (And who determines what's right? The constitution).

Trump has them all by the balls, just because he's brash and loud, and the entire Congress has no spine. The Congress is a co-equal branch of governement, just as the Executive branch led by the President, as well as the Supreme Court.
PoliticsRe: Bashir Ahmad Knocks Peter Obi For Silence On EFCC Official's Killing In Anambra by Ankakh: 8:48am On Jan 24, 2025
Ahmad wrote, “I expected Peter Obi to surprise us by extending his condolences to the EFCC and the family of Aminu Sahabi, who was brutally murdered, while carrying out his official duties, by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu.
Very convenient for you Bashir.

When similar things happen in the North (against Christians or Igbos), your silence is very loud. Your behaviour shows clearly that you're part of why this country is divided along religious and ethnic lines.

PoliticsRe: Portugal Turns To Nigeria For Natural Gas To Reduce Russian Dependency by Ankakh: 8:09am On Jan 23, 2025
Nigeria accounted for 51% of these deliveries, while the United States contributed 40% and Russia supplied 4.4%, data from grid operator REN shows. In comparison, Russia supplied 15% of Portugal’s LNG needs in 2021.
This seems to suggest that Nigeria increased LNG exports to Portugal within the past 4 years but for some reasons, it didn't make headlines. We need more transparency on how much revenue Nigeria generates from our natural resources. Maybe then, we can begin to understand our fiscal responsbility/irresponsibility.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria’s Public Debt Rises By N8.02 Trillion To N142.3 Trillion In Q3 2024 by Ankakh: 8:04am On Jan 23, 2025
An ordinary person cannot even borrow beyond his income, but Nigeria continues to borrow like there's no tomorrow.

Maybe we should learn from the Chinese, Russians and the Saudis how they are doing it. 'Cos it's obvious this debt profile is unsustainable.

PoliticsRe: Striking Doctors Challenge Wike, Akpabio To Use FCT Hospitals by Ankakh: 7:59am On Jan 23, 2025
“If we are ready to fix the healthcare system in this country, I would think that every government official must use the government hospitals. Let’s start with that,”
Over the decades, medical practioners and associations have been asking political leaders to use local facilities for their healthcare needs but no, at the slightest headache, they are in US, UK, France etc. The question is simple: if the US president is usually treated in a foreign hospital, what confidence will the citizens have on medical facilities in the US? (Let's not even begin to talk of security concerns).

“The minister has been very busy with projects, fixing roads, and all of that.
Why do politicians find it easy to do roads than improve on healthcare and education?
CrimeRe: Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested In Lagos by Ankakh: 7:53am On Jan 23, 2025

PoliticsRe: SS2 Students Brutally Attack Teacher, Leave Him In Coma In Kogi State by Ankakh: 7:52am On Jan 23, 2025
This is very unfortunate. As the teacher is in a coma (and let's even assume he instigated this in some way), those students who are street boys in school should first be remanded in police custody for some days while the investigation continues.

If society do not discipline them now (because of the influence of the ringleader's father), it sets a terrible precedent. More students will become bold to assault their teachers.

On top of a bad educational curriculum and system, teachers that have been trying to impact on the younger generation now become punching bags. What a decline for the nation!

PoliticsRe: Tinubu Approves Inland Dry Ports For Ogun, Oyo by Ankakh: 11:13am On Jan 22, 2025
Oyetola emphasized that the development of Inland Dry Ports will not only ease pressure on the country’s seaports but also create jobs for youths in Ogun, Oyo, and other states within Nigeria’s western region.
Hopeful that it delivers in time. Those jobs are very needed especially in those areas.
