PericomaNwankwo: Please change your topic, this seems to cover more on Africa than Nigeria.
There is no account with enough water on the severity of the Spanish flu in Nigeria. I've researched on this, even Ghana have a more detailed history on this topic than naija.
At the end, this write up failed to give us an exhaustive account of the effects of the Spanish flu on Nigeria. I wonder what the government and the British colonialists are hiding. This happened at the end of the 2nd WW and the beginning times of Nigerian almagamation and I'm sure they could have kept the record the same as they kept receipt documents of the purchase of Nigeria by the British government from the Royal Niger company.
What happened in Lagos? Calabar and Port Harcourt? Do you mean WWI |

Islie: It is certain the Nigerian authorities want to avoid a repeat of history, which led to the various containment strategies being deployed against coronavirus: tracing, tracking possible vectors and their contacts, curfews, shutdowns and statewide lockdowns. Not to forget, enlightenment campaigns stressing social distancing, hand washing and so on. Zero (not emphasising testing) testing means plenty spread and deaths. www.nairaland.com/attachments/4160990_image_jpeg_jpeg6f95b5e7a24ad4fc0808d6698fd37362 |

chariisGRACE: "former education minister Oby Ezekwesili who say the president was too slow in his response to the pandemic"
Ezekwesili said the President was too slow in his response to the pandemic.
Before person answer "Baba go slow" you thinks say na chais? Buhari has been slow even before he was born.
In other news: www.nairaland.com/attachments/2026486_buharinoschool_jpeg7b091b4b2030902d513c2f395f96a19dcitizenisb: Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says President Muhammadu Buhari may not do well in economy and foreign affairs, except in military matters.
“Buhari is not a very hot person on the economy and foreign affairs,” Obasanjo said.
The former President stated this on Monday at the third International Conference on African Development Issues — themed, “Driving inclusive and sustainable development in Africa: Models, methods and policies” — organised by Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State.
While reacting to a question posed to him by a member of the audience: “Is there any hope for Nigeria under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari?”, Obasanjo replied, “Is there any hope for Nigeria under this administration? I came back from Geneva, Switzerland a few days ago to attend a conference titled, ‘Are elections giving democracy a bad name?’ We had an election, we elected a leader and the good thing about democracy is that the power you have to elect a leader is also the power you have to remove him. I am saying this because I said earlier that if you don’t see any leader that has done well in the 56 years of Nigeria’s independence, then let us forget about Nigeria.
“I will tell you what I know and I will tell you what I don’t know. I know Gen. Muhammadu Buhari. He served under me in the military. His characteristics that I know, his behaviour that I know, he has not deviated from them. He was never a perfect man, he is not a perfect man and no leader can ever be a perfect man because they are human beings. But if you read my book, what I said about him is correct. He is not a hot person when it comes to economy. He is not a very hot person when it comes to foreign affairs. But he will do well in matters of military and he will do well in fighting Boko Haram.”

Jewessgratitudd: Exactly what I said in a previous post. Here:
As it is commonly said, God helps a cow without tail to ward off flies.
Now I really see God helping us in this whole situation cos with just only one case in Nigeria, nothing could have stopped the spread and death rate from increasing to thousands especially going by our poor hygiene practice and lack of health facilities to tackle this issue. So it can only be God. Therefore no cause for alarm cos it won't escalate.
The virus only entered into their country prolly through one person but see the speed with which it spread and the death rate rising to thousands everyday. While here, without much facilities and help, we've only recorded less than 200 cases with only few deaths and a good number of recovery cases. So it can only get better with us and in no time, our country will be rid of this pandemic.
God gat us always. Let's just keep praying for our country and others as well. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/b2/07/3b/b2073b69c249cbcb3cc99587e81157ce.jpg |

robosky02: 1 DANCING WITH THE NET
Of course it just had to be this one. Nigeria was playing Bulgaria in her first ever game at the USA 1994World Cup. A World Cup participation made possible thanks to important goals from Yekini in the qualifiers. But the goal legend saved his most important for the competition proper. Rashidi tapped in Finidi’s cross to score the country’s first ever goal in the competition. And in sheer ecstasy, Yekini grabbed the net, raising his hands up and screaming for joy. That sight was one of the best highlights of the 1994 World Cup and will forever live in my memory.

Glink2018: Bad initiative. In this twenty first century. This is how primitive the system of your education in Anambra state. After 50 years of Independence, the government of the so called disadvantaged regions ought to have done something to address the situation. You cannot continue to spoon-feed a child and expect that same child to grow, mature and be independent. A student from Abia scores 130 in the Federal Commonwealth Entrance exam, yet it's almost impossible to gain admission in the school of his choice, yet another child from Zamfara will score less than 5 and gain same admission seamlessly. How do you encourage such a child that hard work and merit pays? Look at all the appointments the president has made so far, over 90% from the north. They are telling us they are based on merit. My question is how comes, when it comes to appointment, they are hiding under merit to appoint only their own, but when it comes to exams and admission into Federal institutions, they bring in Federal character. I'm an advocate of merit, hardwork, transparency, objectivity and emperical selection process. That way you encourage everybody to work hard for whatever he/she wants. After all, the Bible says, "he who does not work, let him not eat". It's against natural and spiritual justice and principle to take from those who work and give to those who don't work. That in itself is the root of corruption Nigeria. I support the President's fight against corruption. I advocate the enthronement of merit and objectivity in our national life. So, Mr. President, if you are serious about your anti-corruption mantra, If you are serious about this your new "merit" policy, let's go back to the basis. Start by eliminating all forms of quota system and federal character in the admission process into Unity schools, Federal universities and recruitment/ employment into all federal civil service, agencies, parastatals and let's see who will be qualified. That's my humble submission. |
