Mr Adams Jibril, 28 and Mohammed Yusuf, 27 has been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment combined for defrauding a man of 3 million naira.

Magistrate Zainab Mohammed sitting at the Chief Magistrate Court Kaduna sentence Jibril to 18month imprisonment for forgery, conspiracy, cheating and, impersonation with an option of N100,000 fine while the second teacher.was sentenced to 6months.

The convicts had however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It was gathered that the duo duped Mr Yahaya Abdullahi of Kinkinu, Kaduna after they deceived him that they would help him secure admission for his son AbdulAziz at the Nigeria Defence Academy, Kaduna. “After the complainant gave the convicts the money they later brought the admission letter which was discovered to be fake.

All effort made by the complainant to get his money back proved abortive, rather the convicts absconded to an unknown destination,” Baba added.

It has now become a custom for touts and thugs to demand money from rich people that wants to establish anything, be it house or business, popularly called "owk ile" without knowing its effect.

Mr Gbenga Samuel Wemimo, a Twitter user narrates how these touts stopped business owner, who established an hotel in their community and bought a transformer to help the community and his hotel, but was discouraged after they forcefully collected N100,000 as "Owk Ile" from him.

He wrote:
"Somewhere in Lagos, a man built a hotel on a street and brought a new transformer to help the street and his hotel business. Youths in the area then demanded he must pay N100,000 before it will be installed. That was how the transformer got connected to just his hotel."

Shuaibu Umar who called his sister in law, Suwaiba Abdulkadir a prostitute received a judgement of 80 strokes of cane at Sharia court sitting at Magajin Gar, Kaduna state.

Suwaiba who had filed a case of defamation against her brother in-law, told the court that Umar called her a prostitute after a misunderstanding they had.

“Shuaibu is my husband’s younger brother and we had a misunderstanding; we exchanged words and he called me a prostitute.

“I want this honorable court to grant me justice, as what my brother-in-law said about me has tarnished my image,’’ she said.

The defendant, who did not deny calling his sister-in-law a prostitute, added that he spoke in anger and had no regrets.

“I was hurt when she called me a drug addict and a thief; that was why I called her a prostitute and I won’t go back on my words,’’ he said.

The judge, Mallam Dahiru Lawal, ruled that Umar be given 80 lashes of cane after giving him a chance to withdraw his statement, which he refused to do.

“The defendant confirmed calling his sister-in-law a prostitute and is not ready to withdraw the statement; therefore, I, Dahiru Lawal, rule that Shuaibu Umar be given 80 strokes of cane.

About a week ago, a lecturer at the Faculty of Communication, Bayero University Kano, Dr. Bala Muhammad, has accused Igbo drug merchants of allegedly supplying codeine syrups into the north, Daily Nigerian reports.

Muhammad made the accusation while presenting a paper at the Kano Youth Summit on Peace Advocacy and Development, organised by Hamisu Magaji Foundation, at Mambayya House, on Monday.

Dr. Mohammed also blamed court judges for compromise to secure the release of the suspects without trial, noting that it was the reason the problem was deteriorating.

Boxing legend, Mike Tyson has revealed he has fresh doubts about the pedigree of Anthony Joshua after the British-born Nigerian became the WBO, IBF and WBA (Super) champion.

Joshua defeated Joseph Parker on points in his first 12-round fight as a pro on March 31, but the former knockout king failed to spark against the New Zealander.

The 28-year-old won virtually every round against Parker, but his display was criticised by the likes of Tyson Fury, who claimed the unification fight was abysmal.

And Tyson seems to think Joshua’s performance fell flat and admitted he was not so convinced by AJ’s credentials. “Joshua looked like he was the guy to (become undisputed champion) but in his last fight, he did not impress me,” Tyson told Showtime.

Two sisters with permanent knockes leg, popularly known as K-leg caused by malnutrition, have made remarkable transformation after they had surgery to fix the rare condition.

Salamatou, eight, and Mariama, six, from Mount Manengouba in Cameroon, developed ‘windswept’ limbs due to a condition known as valgus, also known as knock knees, which can occur as a result of malnutrition.

Lack of nutrients during bone development caused their knees to knock together while they walked, which resulted in them rarely attending school due to them being unable to manage the journey.

After hearing about a hospital ship, run by a charity, docking many miles away, the girls and their parents made the grueling journey over rocky terrain from their mountain village to the harbour.
Salamatou, eight, and Mariama, six, travelled a 100 miles on horseback to have surgery to fix the rare condition that caused their legs to become severely twisted.

The girls, who were walking just one day after their surgeries, were so amazed by the results Mariama did not believe the legs she was seeing could possibly be her own.

Fadayini Ayodeji, who allegedly robbed one Mrs Rukayat Sowole of her car, using a toy gun, was on Thursday arraigned in an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, Isabo.Ayodeji, of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of robbery and unlawful possession of dangerous weapons.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 6, 2017, at about 9 p.m. in Omida area of Abeokuta.

According to News Agency Nigeria, Eigbejiale said that the accused, with a toy gun and a knife, robbed the complainant of her Nissan Primera car, with registration No. LND 749CZ, valued at N1.3 million.
Eigbejiale said that the accused was arrested by the police in Omida area of Abeokuta immediately after the robbery.

The offences contravened Section 1 (2) (a) of the Robbery and Fire Arms Law of the Federation, 2004, and Section 428 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Adeola Adelaja, ordered the remand of the accused, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions.
A bricklayer was also arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly breaking into a man’s house and robbed him of N206,000 with a toy gun. The man identified as Taiwo 20, was arraigned before the magistrate, Mrs F.F. George, on five counts of conspiracy, burglary, stealing, robbery and assault.

Taiwo, whose address was not stated, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was admitted to a bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
George said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Eigbejiale, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept. 6, 2017, at about 9 p.m. in Omida area of Abeokuta.

“The accused also stole the complainant’s handbag which contained N75, 000, a cheque book and her vehicle particulars,’’ he said.

Wife of Sokoto state governor has taken to her fb page to commend the work of the Bauchi state governor, Hadiza Abubakar, after she rehabilitated a mentally ill woman, Boka, a native of Shiira LGA ,bBauchi state, who was impregnated by an unknown man and was stigmatized after giving birth.

She wrote:
"A few months ago , Some friends and acquaintances tagged me on a post by a freelance journalist, Haruna Muhammad Salisu, who wrote about a woman suffering from mental illness popularly called Boka. I immediately contacted the wife of the Bauchi state Governor, H.E Hadiza Abubakar for her intervention in the plight of the lady.
Her Excellency was swift and the needful was done. She responded on her very first step to saving Boka thus :
"Glad to inform you that Boka has been successfully reunited with her family in the village of Sambuwal Shira. Her brother has given her a room in his house while govt will take care of her living expenses. I will figure out how to rehabilitate her on a more permanent basis by the time she regains her physical and emotional balance. Thanks for bringing her case to my attention."
Haruna Mohammed described the situation of Boka in the following words:
Boka is a mad woman that gave birth on the street. Her real name is Lami from Shira LGA of Bauchi State. I saw her lying by the road side with her little baby on my way to Shira town to meet with parents of out of school children on a USAID funded project I supervise. I asked the driver to stop. I quickly got down and approached the woman. At first I was sceptical – understandably not to be trapped by a wild woman, since I do not know the trajectory of her insanity. I enquired from some passersby. I learnt she is simple.
I was encouraged by Suleiman Adamu from Shira to go ahead and talk to her. I did. In spite of her state of affairs, Boka could coherently articulate her points and would tell you all that befalls her. She told me that she was impregnated by a man from Adamami, a village not far away from Shira town. Boka’s condition and her innocent child left me bewildered for many reasons.
One; her pregnancy is not Mary’s type (Maryam AS)—Jesus’ mother. She was impregnated by one of society’s condemnable fellows who betrays human conscience. The doer is one of the most horrific creatures that walk on this earth. Most wicked, wild and nasty.
Two; the whole community where the filthy fellow committed his dastardly act could not do anything to apprehend him and bring him to book despite their knowledge of him. He’s freely conducting his businesses at the mercy and reckless tolerance of the community.

Three; the community watches as the woman roams about with her innocent Zainab amidst winter, sleeping outside, sometimes by the road side without any form of shelter and cloth for the little baby. This banality of social isolationism is the most dangerous and delusionary form of intolerance I have ever seen.
Four; no one is disturbed by the innocence of the little baby, let alone offer refuge of any kind—if not for the mother.
Five; the baby is exposed to several dangers: she eats and drinks from the scraps and remains of her mother’s collection from the dustbin— since that is where the mother collects her food.
Six; the innocent baby was vaccinated only once, as testified by the mother. Impliedly, she is vulnerable to all kinds of sicknesses and diseases since her mother is unaware of any form of vaccination let alone think of getting one for her baby.
Seven; I was more puzzled by the lack of sympathy and empathy exhibited by the host communities—shira-Azare axis who watch Boka wander around with her Zainab in tatters. It speaks volumes about our collective self-deception and failure. It is more unfortunate that this woman roams around within the glare of Shira local government officials as my investigations reveal. They were not moved by an inch to rehabilitate Boka and her little Zainab. What a society!
I am making a special case for her shortly. I hopethis write-up accelerates the process. People of conscience should rescue Boka and her Zainab. Come to her aid! Please come to her aid quickly! History will not forgive us if we turn away and ignore plights of Boka and her little Zainab.
The dominant Islamic enclave, Islamic organizations, traditional institutions and other custodians of the society's values should step up with more campaigns and awareness that could clearly denounce such inhumane exploitation of lunatics, not just Boka. Lastly, Boka deserves justice.
Human right NGOs and legal practitioners should pick up the challenge to initiate legal tussle that would eventually “reward” the culprit accordingly!
After some months of rehabilitation, I was pleased when Her Excellency , Dr. Hadiza Abubakar yesterday informed me on Boka’s progress so far and sent pictures of a stable woman as of today ! Alhamdulillah"
